Citadel Paint Bot

- I took an old Citadel paint pot and made a robot from scratch. One of my viewers recommended I make a bot from an old Citadel paint pot, the paint pot definitely has the shape of a robot so why not. I scratch built most of this bot from wood and polystyrene. There's one or two other bits from a Gundam and Star Wars action figure.
Woodworking is not a solid skill of mine so I learned a few things along the way. With a custom paint job and some articulation in the arms and waist this Citadel Paint Bot turned out pretty cool!
I hope you enjoy this custom toy build video!
Thanks for visiting DR Toys, and as always...

Paint bot! Man, those hips were a task haha But he came out great!
In the voice of Mrs Doubtfire “I’m a hip old robot”! 😂😂😂
glad you also did a Paint Pot project, I loved seeing them being made.
Thanks!
If R5-D4 and IG-11 had a baby. Awesome build!
😂
I am little surprised to see the wood turning out perfectly into a Toy figure..I like the bottom grip 🤩..great work 👍🏻🤩
Thank you! Cheers!
Great robot. I think he needs a companion when you come to revisit him.
Great build...but maybe a missed opportunity? A bot made from a paint pot could be holding...a paint brush or mini spray can. Tagger bot, courtesy of Citadel. Paint splatters on the body from all the previous work it had done, so many cool possibilities. So maybe the next one? Or, when I someday finish that pot of Athonian Camoshade I'll make one. Great video, as always!🖌🖖
Love that idea!
Nice idea! Those paint pots remind me of an iconic astromech droid…
Totally!
I love the fact that because of your videos and a couple other UA-camrs I'm starting to see trash in a different way. As always nice work.
I have waited for someone to make a citadel paint robot for a long time finally!
Love the body of the robot just not feeling those legs. They almost feel too long and narrow. Killer paint job as always.
Yeah, I will definitely do things different on the next one. Thanks.
oh! It is a cool robot that you can feel the story. 🤖 I also imitate by making robots out of waste materials, making dolls out of Styrofoam, and taking time-lapse videos. The imagination and creativity of Dr. Toys is amazing 👍 Dr. Toys, who I respect, is my craftsmanship teacher!
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m glad I can help in some small way.❤️
“My hands!” Lol. Nice work. Great channel.
😊 thank you
Terrific work! I always look forward to your next video. Thanks once again for sharing your remarkable talent with us. ❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
That came out looking coo. Learned some stuff watching, so thanks. Found all my styrene rod yesterday cleaning up, so…
Rocking job love it. I like it when you show The Struggle Bus I think it reminds everybody of the little things that we sometimes forget their good lessons for all of us. Great video great outcome nice job brother
Right on, thanks!
That was such a neat idea! The robot looks great and I learned a lot of great tips and tricks from you on this tutorial. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
I like it. Nice looking Bot. 🤖
WOW…that turned out great! 🙌🏻💕
Thanks so much! 😊
Love these droid builds Dave! Another stellar creation.
Thanks! More to come! 😅
Wow! I really like this one! I think this is one of your most impressive builds and one of your best.
Thank you! 😊
Might be cool to make the top of the paint lid open up and inside you see a organic brain or even a little ET guy working some controls. Super cool build. Love how you gave it some articulation too.
I actually have something similar to that planned…😅
Thanks for the idea! I don't use citadel paints very often, because they just aren't available where I am normally. But those bottles would be great for a pseudo-R2D2 build...
Especially the shorter paint pots.
He looks awesome!!!!!!! ❤😊❤
It’s nice to see you struggle with the wood pieces. That means I’m not the only one 😂
😂
The great thing about robots is everything can be a robot, even wood! Great job!
Always enjoy what you make!!!!!! 👍🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
@@DRToysCreations 😊
Great build, I'm definitely going to have a go when I use my paints up
Have fun!😃
one of my favorites so far that you have built
Thanks!
@@DRToysCreations no prblem something about this one just sticks out to me
Very Ashley Wood! Love it
Definitely has an AW vibe!
Thanks!
Genius concept.
Thanks
Your welcome.
If at first you don't succeed, try again and again and again... This came out great.
That’s been the story of my last two builds! 😂
Best use for a Commander Krennic figure
Right! 😂
Looking very cool
Ye this little guy is sweet. Don’t know how I missed this vid back when…
Thanks, glad you found it.😃
Great job dude!! Best regards from Mexico City
Thank you! Cheers!
The cool dude again
I’m not really a woodworker, but I love crafting with wood and I think it’s really cool the results you get when you use wood for products. (I’ve mentioned how much I admire your stick-to-it-ness before, but I screwed up a step on my project and was ready to abandon it, but I was literally like “What would Dr. Toys do?” I mean, I cursed it up and down first and then went into problem solving mode. I think I fixed it.)
I love that! Thanks for the encouraging words!
Looks epic! Nice job!
Thanks!
Looks really great!
Thanks
thanks for making somethin with my suggestion, great vid.
Thanks for the idea!
Cool 😎 love it awesome 👍😎❤🎉
Thanks 😁
Love the very utilitarian look of this robot. A sweet build and as ever it’s a pleasure to watch you explore the processes.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Awesome job man
Thanks!
Cool stuff Thank you for your videos
Thanks for watching!
It would be kinda neat if you kept it as a functioning vessel for a wash or thinner or something you dip brushes in. That way it can be a part of the process all the time. Like a novelty coffee mug, only for a crafter.
That’s an awesome idea!😃
I love to see it I honestly think I want to record myself making something sometime
Do it!
My recommendation is to film and short bit, otherwise your video end up 20 hours long!😅
Have you ever thought of making these character into stormtroopers skin? Like what they did with the Christmas Troopers and Halloween Troopers. That'll be amazing.
I haven’t, but that could be cool!
Very creative
Thank you! Cheers!
Gran canal amigo muy ingenioso e increíbles diseños, muchas gracias, saludos desde América latina!!
Thanks so much! Greetings from Colorado!😃
Great job. Such solutions have great potential.
If I may advise - use other wood (f.ex. birch, poplar, linden) because pine may crack (this was pine, yes?) - and small elements impregnate with cyanoacrylate :)
This is nice style, of course. Try to find Jakub Różalski paintings, I think you will like them.
Greetings :)
Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I don’t know much about different woods…
I have seen that artist on Instagram in the past, love his work! Very cool!
That is just one scary ass death bot.
😂
Nicely done Dave! Is it bad to say that your build video has me slightly terrified of using Citadel bottles due to the inclusive gremlins? 👹😆
😂
🐴👍🏻🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Have you ever messed around with RenShape? That was the hot stuff when I was building models in ID school
I haven't, I hear Adam Savage talk about it all the time but he's always using lathes to shape it. Do you need big equipment like that to use it?
@@DRToysCreations It it made for CNC work with high levels of precision, but you can also use traditional tools with it. It sands and paints really nice. Gotta find some at a yard sale to mess around with 😁
It looks cool and can fit in as a star wars droid. Bounty hunter r2 unit. If you would sell this I’d be interested for the right price.
Thanks I appreciate that. So I take my builds to Designer Con in CA each year. I’m learning to at some point pit them online as well.
@@DRToysCreations you’ll get top dollar there, I bet!
A robot with human hands 😮.... shocking 😲..... great robot though 😅👍
I know, right?😂
For sake of the story, let’s just say he has droid hands but he’s embarrassed so he wears black leather gloves !😂😂😂
I like that explanation 👌 😆 🤣
It came out pretty good, but I think it would have looked better if you'd painted the backpack an accent color instead of just white like the rest of the body.
I went back and forth on that. I was thinking if he was in a snow environment it would be white for better camouflage, but I totally see your point. I still have a few things I would like to do to this so I may update that.
Thanks.
I think it came out pretty cool as always. That was good luck with the hands and wrists. But you were sure having problems with those hips. I was surprised you decided to sand the hips down when they touched the body, I thought you would have glued a piece of styrene or a piece of popsicle stick to the pelvis rather than take the chance of messing up the hips again. But in the end it all came out awesome.
Awsome Doc Has a New Vidieo
And ate Lucy Charms for Breakfast
A stormtrooper space armor
shit I just trow some the other day...
😂
Every time I see you apply the wash, you seem to end up with your robots looking old and beat up. Why don't you find a way to make them look like they're brand new? Like they've just walked out of the factory, no miles on them yet. Try that just once.🖖😎👍
Love it! Will definitely give that a try at some point! Thank!
the bag is weird
Fair enough.
