Don't feel bad about not doing the things you planned. Every baby is different and they have different needs. It doesn't make you any less of a good parent
Ian a doula and work with a lot of my mom's who are breastfeeding. First of all, pacifiers are not evil. They can save your sanity! They can also cause nipple confusion, but usually if you wait till 3yo 5 weeks (which she is in) you don't encounter that. Lastly, if your nipples are still sore, have her checked for a lip tie or posterior tongue tie.
Hope this is not too forward. Having had children and grandchildren with tongue and lip ties, I am active in some groups. There is a facebook page devoted to tongue and lip tied babies. Here is a link to their page that lists health care providers in Alaska who have a proven track record of accurate diagnosis and treatment of this condition. www.tt-lt-support-network.com/alaska.html
So many vloggers get called "good dads" but I honestly think the only person that really deserves that is you. You are so supportive and attentive. Chell is very lucky!
I do not do a lot of commenting on You Tube but this video prompted me to do so. I think I have been following since Mean Kitty started. I am a mom of five ages 19-9 now. Let me say this is one of the most honest videos about parenting. I also had set ideas and rules when I went to have that first baby. Over the past 20 years my husband and I have eaten a lot of crow. We had some babies that co-slept with us, some that took pacifiers, some that had formula, and a host of other things we said we would not do. That is LIFE! We did cloth diapers with one and then my husband said NO when we had the next one LOL. Parenting is really about doing what works for you and your family.
-Over the past 20 years my husband and I have eaten a lot of crow. You know... I am french and it the first time I heard that expression. So at first I thought you were saying that you literally been eating crows (the birds) for 20 years with your husband. I was freak out ! xD But it a good thing that I had to reflex to think it might be idiom and look that up on google.
I still have some of his videos saved and I'll go back to watch them. When the sun is setting or when my flowers are blooming, my first thought is always, "Pretty colors!"
I love watching the both of you figuring out this new path in life. It takes me back to when my 1st baby was a newborn and everything I had thought about and planned on doing changed. All I ended up doing was what you are doing, figuring out as you go. I think that makes for the happiest baby and even though you are exhausted, you want nothing more than baby to be healthy and happy. Proud of you two!!!
You guys are AMAZING parents. Part of being a parent is figuring out what this tiny person needs when they can't tell you in words. Don't sweat it, you guys are fabulous!
You haven't given in... Be kind to yourself/gentle, you've made accommodations/modifications for what Chell requires. That's what great parents are made of!!!
You're great parents because you are willing to change your ideals because your baby's needs are what is most important. It's smart to wait until she's an established nurser before introducing the paci, but now there's very little chance the paci will confuse her. You put her in disposable diapers because they are soooooooooooooooooo much more comfortable for babies. You co-sleep because babies sleep much better in bed with mommy, they are little pack animals too and want to be part of the den. I think it's awesome you're willing to go with the flow of your daughter's preference, instead of standing solid and unyielding. There is so much we parents can't waiver on (carseats is one thing), so when we can waver it teaches kids that it's okay to change your mind based on new info and a better perspective.
Also tip: If you take some breast milk on your finger and gently rub on Chells face, its supposed to get rid of the lil rash! I guess you do it like every feeding.
+Celisar1 most newborns get it. It's called newborn rash. When the baby is in the womb it has tons of hormones from their mother, when they are born some babies tend to get a rash from the hormones leaving their bodies. I think I said that right!?
The end made me cry. I felt that. No matter how difficult the day was just cuddling with a newborn on your chest washes it all away. Truly the best feeling.
Today is my little dudes 15th birthday! And watching your vlogs just brings back sooo many memories! You guys are doing a great job, and what Cory said at the end...right on, brother. That's exactly what you need to keep in your mind when you hit the rough spots. My son had colic...and oh man, it was rough. Add to that, my PPD, and yeah, we really had some roller coaster moments. But, now...he's an outstanding kid with a wicked sense of humor, and he's also the reason that I follow you on UA-cam! He is the one who found the mean kitty song and shared it with me! ❤️
I was a second child, my parents tried doing something similar with me (change up their initial parenting routine). They too, "failed." But then again, I am starting med school soon so...I guess they won? Lol. I love you guys! Stay gold!
You two are doing a great job. You've learned an important lesson...Chell is in charge for the time being! You both look so tired, yet you both look very happy and completely in love with Chell! I would gently like to suggest getting some kind of co sleeping bassinet to place in bed with you. There are some with sides that are only six inches high. This safely allows you to sleep and cuddle with her, while keeping her out of danger of being rolled on. Enough serious stuff, love the bag sofa. What an interesting product. Cory, good job dropping Kristen on the ground! LOL! Kristen, it won't be long before you have your figure completely back. You look fabulous, although a little tired! Cory, isn't it the most special feeling in the world to hold Chell while she sleeps? I'm sure the joy and love she brings to both of you is worth a few months of being sleep deprived. I am so proud of both of you!
I love you guys! I bashed in you because I was sad about your life a long time ago but over the past couple of years I've seen tremendous growth within you Cory! (ive grown and matured so much myself, inwas wrong to say rude things long ago and i deeply apologize.) your family is absolutely precious and sweet. Such an amazing father you are and your wife is awesome. Keep up the good work you two! Chell is totally worth it! 😁🤗👪
Oh my god, Kristen, if you could redirect me to the recipes for those crock pot meals you've got saved up for your family, I would be really grateful and maybe send you something cool from Maine.
The biggest lesson I've learned in parenting is to be flexible! You've got to figure out what works for you and your little one, and not be too hard on yourselves when plans change!! You guys are doing an amazing job!
NO!! Hell no! You guys are new to this. You are still learning. And things can't always go the intended way you want. Don't be so hard on yourself. Everybody goes through such phases where our energy is drained and we doubt ourself. But that happen to almost everybody.
A good parent is one that realizes what works best for their child AND for the parent(s)! You're doing great. You haven't failed your little one or yourselves because you're making it work.
FYI: Cory & Kristen. Chell will be fine. She'll let you know what she wants. Plans are lovely, until you have kids. Lol. God laughs at the planners. Just go with the flow.
Everything from before you have the baby changes when the baby is actually there. You tend to their wants and needs instead of your plans :D Completely normal and happens to everyone! You are doing a GREAT job, Chell is one lucky girl!!!!!
Cory, giving up on rules isn't failure, its learning. I have been with you since 2005, and I once told you that you have grown so much over the years. I am glad that I can experience your life with you. I got my wife watching you and I have a 13 year old. I told myself here are the rules... There are no rules. You make stuff up as you go. You live, you learn. if you fail to change then you fail as parents. We love you from OHIO
My mom and dad told my us when we were younger that "God laughs at plans." So true. But hang in there, you'll get through it! I think you guys make great parents and will continue to do so in the future! Kristen, you look good and Chell's acne looks like it's really clearing up, which is great! Your vlogs always make me smile!
So true. What is more effective are preparation, previsions and most importantly, adaption (imo) There is too much variable to deal with a human being, especially a kid , for it to work on a strict plant and text book ideals only. Don't discourage yourself, you are still learning and it normal.
Every time I see Chell and the huge grin you two have on your faces, it brings a smile to my face. I love babies. My best friend who is basically my sister has a son and she always sends me pictures and videos of him and always makes sure to say to me that I need to see my nephew before I head back to Chicago for school. I'm so glad Chell is doing so well and I'm glad you two are enjoying being parents!
You are doing fine! Pacis aren't a big deal! I was born in 1963 in a small town. My mom smoked thru out her pregnancy, drank, had bad eating habits and I came out mostly ok! She didn't breastfeed but used cloth diapers because that was the only choice. And I had a pacifier. Lots of years later when I had my son, I got a big care package from my Aunt who worked at Platex corporate. I got lots of pacifiers of all varieties, disposable diapers etc and I used them all! Modern living isn't all harmful. Peace to you!
You're GREAT parents because you've learned the first and most important lesson about parenting. Listen to advice, try different things - and choose what's right for you and Chell!
Don't feel bad about having to do things differently than you wanted. My husband and I had our first child in May. We have tried so many different things since then, most of them being the opposite from what we had pictured. As long as Chell gets what she needs, everything will be ok. The best way you can help her is to focus on caring for yourselves as well. From what I understand, the first 3-5 months are the hardest as far as crying and fussing. Our son is coming up on that 3 month mark now and he is mellowing out big time. You guys are doing so great.
Oh I love the ending! Cory and Kristin I found out on Friday I am about 6 or 7 weeks pregnant! 14 months we have been trying. I was elated and sad all at once when you announced but I overcame that because it wasn't my time. Watching the vlogs and the transformation are helping me start thinking about how fast these 9 months will fly by. Please keep vlogging and letting us know what your doing so when I have my hard days I can remember its worth it. Much love from a long time viewer. And hearing Nathans name, birthday bro, just flashed some great memories from when him and Sarah came out. Nerds Getting Physical!
We started with our first child as major Baby Wise followers, with our last, we were completely attachment parents. Do you fits your family when it fits, totally. Yall are awesome and are rocking this. We love seeing what you share with us.
You guys rock. I appreciate your honesty. Parenting is hard. I've got a 14 year old, 10 year old and 3 year old. It just changes. It's not easier- just different. Those first months are so blurry and hard. Your love for each other will get you through it!
Part of being a parent is failing over & over again - that's how you learn! When I was pregnant with my daughter is set myself up for failure with all of my "rules." Do what you feel is right! You both are wonderful parents.
Welcome to the club!! I gave in with my first one too. I was going to potty train my boy at age 2 although everything said they weren't ready till 3! Yah, I learned the hard way! I didn't do pacifiers but they each developed a favorite blanket that they liked to suck on.
I have two happy, healthy well adjusted young women. They both didn't have a pacifier and they both breastfed, they coslept it was just easier to feed. Now they are 31 & 28.5. They both have good jobs, great relationships with their boyfriend's. Don't worry, do what works for you two & Chell! The comfort of the 3 of you is all that matters! You are doing GREAT!!!
You guys are doing great! My husband and I were just like you with our daughter (who is now 2), and working through my list of "nevers" after she was born and the hard work of parenting began was a VERY humbling experience for me! You'll learn so much about yourselves, including which things you're ok compromising on and which ones you'll stick to your guns on, and you will grow so much in the process. I know it taught me how judgmental I was towards other parents and as a result I learned to be much more compassionate and willing to extend grace (not just to myself and my daughter, but to other people, too). I gave in pretty quickly on the whole no pacifier thing (and we still exclusively breastfed successfully for 22 months--lactation consultants can sometimes scare you for no reason), and 10 months in we stopped cloth diapering. You have to do what works best for your family. Happy parents equal a happy baby and you're figuring that out! The most important thing you can do for her is just to love her, and you've got that down!
Watching your vlogs as of late has been so nice. I've been watching the entire summer, and seeing the couple of weeks before Chell was born and after has been so nice. It's great to get a first hand experience of something like this, especially if I ever think about having kids in the future myself!
I love your honesty about being a new parent! Too many UA-camrs make it seem like they are so perfect.....Way to much editing going on. Keep up the awesome work!!💗
You guys are doing an amazing job! Especially since you have no family around to help. I'm sure we all wish that there was a manual that we were given the minute the baby was born.
Love that you were testing out those air couches to I actually just saw those over the weekend and was considering them for the beach but wasn't sure how comfy they were LOL nice to see them out in person getting tested out thanks.
it cool seeing how life is with a baby. life can be hard but the moments in life is worth all the hard work. happy to see videos like this. you guys are good parents.
I am sooooo glad I came across your channel, I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby & am currently back to backing your vlogs catching up and I can't stop crying with these past few videos (in a good way 😝) you guys are absolutely awesome! ☺️
I love all your videos of the both of you! lights up my day every time I watch them.. because I miss Anchorage sooo much, hope to move there soon for college.
You two are doing such a great job! My two girls (4 and 6) loved watching your Alaskan Adventure videos, and then when they found out you were going to have a baby, they loved them even more (and I do too)! Yes, babies are hard. You just have to take all the advice with a grain of salt, and figure out what works best for your little family. I do want to say, Corey, that I have never seen such an excited and involved father, especially from so early on. Mad props to you, man. Kristen, it does get easier... eventually... at some point. :) Also, you mentioned Parent Brain in one of your earlier videos, yes it is a thing! I still have it...
You guys are great parents!!! I totally understand why you guys want to stay away from pacifiers and bottles but they help! Keep doing what you're doing! :)
So I was just browsing baby videos on UA-cam, because as a new mom, that's what I do haha. And I ran into your sleep video, didn't realize you were the mean kitty guy until you mentioned it then I had a little excited freak out haha. I've watched your mean kitty video so many times (and I'm not even a cat person). Your family is amazing you and your wife have such a great and loving dynamic and you're so great with Chell! I love your videos! I'm commenting on this video specifically because my husband and I did the exact same thing haha. We're going to follow all the sleep safe recommendations and nope.. she's sleeping in our bed haha. My baby girl is going to be 5 months on Christmas. You just gotta do what works for your family.
MAM pacifiers are what my 6month old uses and he is EBF no issues with latching or anything like that during nursing. an if your buying huggies you can go to the website and get coupons for them. an I love cosleeping, it's easier for night time feedings. :) nurse on momma.
It's totally ok to comprise on your plans. Babies are tiny humans with their own likes and dislikes and personalities. You just gotta roll with it. You are still great parents. And yes, there are those moments that make all the rough times so worth it. And it just gets better and better. But dont stress about the little things.
That ending made me cry! Dang, so sweet. I'm not a parent but I can only imagine the rewards of being a parent. I know it's hard but I do know it's so worth it. Beautiful moment. Just thank yall for sharing your lives and your precious family, Cory and Kristen! Love you guys! Praying for sweet little Chell. She is a sweet angel.
Watching Cory's relationship with Kristen grow up to this point has been amazing, and it really makes me realize how much i want a baby with the love of my life later in my life. I have been subscribed to Cory watching his videos off and on since a little more than 2 months after he uploaded his mean kitty song. At the time i always watched katers17 and i got the see their relationship which was really cool. For a period after they split up i stopped watching for a little bit and once Cory said he was going to start vlogging on DudeLikeHella (Which i subscribed to the second he said it was a thing) I started watching and still havent stopped. I have physically grown up watching Cory. Im 17 and im pretty sure i have been watching his videos since i was 10 or 11. Keep being a great father Cory! You're setting a really good example for future fathers and you're an all around great guy and i wish you the best.
I've watched every one of your videos since the birth of your beautiful daughter! I love learning about your culture and I think that your doing an amazing job! God bless all three of you!
I'd get over the pacifier fear. (I'm also a lactation consultant.) Didn't give one to my first born but my breasts needed a break with our second born so we gave her a pacifier. not only did she sleep for 6 hour stretches at night because of it, she was SO much easier during the day and it was an easy habit to break when she started baby led weaning. MAM pacifiers are the best. highly recommend.
As a new parent as well I said ALL the same things!! And we gave in also! Every baby is different. Unfortunately my supply didn't meet the demand. She is just over two months now and she is eating 6 ounces every two hours. You are great parents! Do what keeps you sane! She will be just fine
Don't feel bad about not doing the things you planned. Every baby is different and they have different needs. It doesn't make you any less of a good parent
Amen. The Mommy Wars are ridiculous. If you are taking care of their needs, that's what matters. Not how you do it.
+watchingvidsnow very well put.
nicely done
Aw, that ending was so cute! You two are great parents. Chell is very lucky to live in such a loving home. :)
Ian a doula and work with a lot of my mom's who are breastfeeding. First of all, pacifiers are not evil. They can save your sanity! Oops. "I am" not "Ian"! Lol.
Yes I mentioned lip and/or tongue tie a few videos ago.
Sorry, I am a new viewer and subscriber. By the way, I LOVE your vlogs!

I miss Nathan. R.I.P. We have your music to remember you by.
I still have some of his videos saved and I'll go back to watch them. When the sun is setting or when my flowers are blooming, my first thought is always, "Pretty colors!"
Me too.
I miss him too.... :'(
When you type his name in google you'll find a thumblr link where you can download for free his music... ( nathan-wills-music . tumblr . com )
Nathan was such a nice, funny guy. RIP man.
I love watching the both of you figuring out this new path in life. It takes me back to when my 1st baby was a newborn and everything I had thought about and planned on doing changed. Giving her a paci is not giving in, she needs to sooth herself and suck. It's totally okay! You're great parents
Soothe*
+Stephanie Buzzella I agree!
That little chell cry at the end was so sad! You guys are awesome parents
You're great parents because you are willing to change your ideals because your baby's needs are what is most important. I can just imagine toddler Chell waving goodbye with her daddy! Goddess that mental image is beyond adorable!
Also tip: If you take some breast milk on your finger and gently rub on Chells face, its supposed to get rid of the lil rash! I guess you do it like every feeding.
Yes! I totally did that when my girls were newborns it totally works!
breast milk is amazing. even if they have a little cut rub breast milk on it.
What is the reason for that rush?
+The Jabber Crew I heard it's the only thing a person could live on for their entire lives.
+Celisar1 most newborns get it. It's called newborn rash. When the baby is in the womb it has tons of hormones from their mother, when they are born some babies tend to get a rash from the hormones leaving their bodies.

Gonna get some Cosy in Sofa's for camping and sleep overs! Awesome!
Oh my god, Kristen, if you could redirect me to the recipes for those crock pot meals you've got saved up for your family, I would be really grateful and maybe send you something cool from Maine.
I too would love the recipe's!! We have difficulties pre-preparing, but that looked brilliant!
The cool kids' Google. Thanks
Send them a whoopie pie. :D
There are tons on pinterest.:)newleafwellness.biz/2016/05/08/19-deliciously-healthy-chicken-crockpot-freezer-meals/
OK time to pop the cork on your UA-cam channel and do some cooking crock pot meals!! or momy like thing
The biggest lesson I've learned in parenting is to be flexible! You've got to figure out what works for you and your little one, and not be too hard on yourselves when plans change!! You guys are doing an amazing job!
We keep giving up on our rules! Does that make us bad parents?
no. your learning how to adjust to new situations.
Not at all. Just go day by day and continue to enjoy the small things😊😊
NO!! Hell no! You guys are new to this. You are still learning. And things can't always go the intended way you want.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Everybody goes through such phases where our energy is drained and we doubt ourself.

I can remember saying either not my kids or i wont do that with mine .................. AND that goes out the wall when you have your own kids hehe.
lol, yeah. I can totally see why.
We're all perfect parents before we actually have kids LOL
Cory, giving up on rules isn't failure, its learning. I have been with you since 2005, and I once told you that you have grown so much over the years. If your nipples are sore that means that latch, positioning or attachment are nkr correct. Seek help.
I agree with this 100%
The first few weeks are sore even with a correct latch. But I'd definitely try some different holds to minimize the hurt.
I LOVE THE NOTE ON THE BATHROOM MIRROR. I ALSO LOVE THAT SHIRT
first mistake you guys made was planning. plans are made only to be broken later. you gotta fly by the seat of your pants.
lol, we thought we'd totally have it all figured out. Nope.
My mom and dad told my us when we were younger that "God laughs at plans." So true. But hang in there, you'll get through it! I think you guys make great parents and will continue to do so in the future! Kristen, you look good and Chell's acne looks like it's really clearing up, which is great! Omg!!!! You guys are amazing parents!!!! You do whatever works for your family!!!!
Who's the "someone" who made pee? Chell? Kristen?
It was me. I'll take the blame. ;)
+DudeLikeHELLA GREAT! NOW IM CONFUSED!
Ok, so I'm not the only one.
+DudeLikeHELLA where can I get the shirt you're wearing the video
I just love how in love you are with beings dad. This world needs more dads like you. And moms like Kristin. Sorry if I spelled her name wrong. Lol.
You do what you need to do to make your baby girl happy. You are both doing an amazing job.
From what you guys have shared with us, I think you're both doing a fantastic job at the parenting thing.
Every time I see Chell and the huge grin you two have on your faces, it brings a smile to my face. I love babies.
I love chell's eyes she's always so aware
Don't feel bad about having to do things differently than you wanted. My husband and I had our first child in May. We have tried so many different things since then, most of them being the opposite from what we had pictured. As long as Chell gets what she needs, everything will be ok. The best way you can help her is to focus on caring for yourselves as well. From what I understand, the first 3-5 months are the hardest as far as crying and fussing. Our son is coming up on that 3 month mark now and he is mellowing out big time. You guys are doing so great.
You guys do things YOUR way..you are amazing parents!! By the way, Chell is cuter by the day, I'm not even kidding. Her cuteness is ridiculous.
your great!! you know what's best! always have an open mind when parenting. all my kiddos have needed different parenting. she beautiful!
She's already almost 1 month old!! Crazyyyy! :D
That cozy sofa thingy was so cool!!!! I want one now!!!
You are wonderfull parents. The love you give is amazing. Dont punish yourself. Big hug and lots of love from holland.
the planned frozen meals are so the way to go. I live my life like that too
You guys are doing great!
No matter what you do. You are loving wonderfully parents. Good for you for going with you instincts.
You guys are awesome parents! You just figure out what works for the three of you and roll with it :-).
You guys are great parents!
You just have to do what works for you and your baby. It's different for everyone! And for every baby, too. You guys are doing a great job!
Those inflatable couches are amazing!!!
You guys are awesome parents your daughter will be so well loved and cared for
Ya'll are doing awesome! Go with the baby flow!
Each kid is there own person. Just do what works. That is the greatest advice another parent can give to another.
Watching your vlogs as of late has been so nice. I've been watching the entire summer, and seeing the couple of weeks before Chell was born and after has been so nice. It's great to get a first hand experience of something like this, especially if I ever think about having kids in the future myself!
what a lovely ending moment. You are so lucky. She's amazing.
That last bit was just so wonderful ❤
I love your honesty about being a new parent! Too many UA-camrs make it seem like they are so perfect.....Way to much editing going on. Keep up the awesome work!!💗
That is one lucky baby! Great job guys!
I saw those inflatable sofa things before! So cool for the beach or camping!
You two are doing great. Don't beat yourselves up. Parenting is hard on a good day.
You guys getting sleep is THE most important thing right now. Pacifiers or anything that doesn't hurt, & helps you do that is a win!
You are good parents. You do whatever you need to do to make your baby happy and comfortable.
I am sooooo glad I came across your channel, I'm 30 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby & am currently back to backing your vlogs catching up and I can't stop crying with these past few videos (in a good way 😝) you guys are absolutely awesome! ☺️
Everything works differently for each baby! I said I would never co sleep and it ended up happing with all 3! You guys are doing a great job!
I love all your videos of the both of you! lights up my day every time I watch them.. because I miss Anchorage sooo much, hope to move there soon for college.
Yes to pacifiers!!! Yes to disposable diapers and yes to co-sleeping!!! You guys rock as parents!!!
You are good parents. Good parenting is listening to your child's needs and adjusting accordingly.
Cosleeping is good! Don't worry about what others say. Do what's best for you!
MAM pacifiers are what my 6month old uses and he is EBF no issues with latching or anything like that during nursing. an if your buying huggies you can go to the website and get coupons for them. an I love cosleeping, it's easier for night time feedings. :) nurse on momma.
I second MAM
Yes one baby loved mam and my other one used soothie brand
+Uniqua Bowman yes! definitely. mam and soothe are best for breastfeed babies. (:
Congratulations , you two are very happy. I hope to be happy for the rest of their lives. Please send hi to Brazil
She is a sweet angel.
still amazing parents she's healthy fairly happy and Hella loved
Good luck guys! Enjoy your new baby.
You're doing what you need to and what your baby wants. Never feel bad. You're amazing parents 💖
Did any of you guys notice the note Kristen left for Cory on the mirror when he changed his shirt?? SO CUTE! THAT people, is true love!!!
As a new parent as well I said ALL the same things!! And we gave in also! Every baby is different. Unfortunately my supply didn't meet the demand. She is just over two months now and she is eating 6 ounces every two hours. You are great parents! Do what keeps you sane! She will be just fine
You guys are doing this soooo right! Cory, Great support system and loving her threw your changes!!! My husband.... Not the same
