    OUR STORY SO FAR:
We are Cory & Kristen Williams and in August 2014 we made the long drive from Southern California to Alaska to move into our new home in Eagle River. Here we’ve had the chance to explore Alaska, experience lots of wild events, meet lots of great people and endure the extreme temperatures that the north is known for. On December 23rd, 2014 we got engaged after our Polar Plunge under the Northern Lights then later married by our favorite lake on May 23rd, 2015. Then on June 23rd, 2016 we had our first child. A baby girl named Chell.

I have to compliment you, Kristen and Corey: I love how you show your life with a new born. And a huge compliment for showing nursing moments without covering everything. And as a mother of two beautiful girls: it all gets easier and you will sleep again.

I agree with you. I think it is was also interesting to see that Kristen covers up completely in public, but not at home when Cory is filming her. I'm sure she is at ease because she knows Cory would never violate her privacy. Trust is a very sweet thing! It makes me feel like we are all welcome guests in their virtual living room! This makes watching their videos a special treat!

Good job on the garden. Start small. Experiment. See what does well and what doesn't. It is rewarding to eat what you've grown.
Chell is growing so quickly! I'm so excited to get to watch her grow and learn along with you both.

Cory, you should vlog your mail stuff more often! Depending how much you get anyway. At least in my opinion, its interesting to see all the neat little ideas that different people have to send you, either purchased or hand made. I love it :) Even letters would be fun to hear if their writers are okay with them being read in the vlog. I dont know theres just something about it that i love :)

No wonder Kristen had a hard time walking. Chell is a big baby. A note to Cory, container gardens work very well. You could build container boxes, (look at raised beds also) around the periphery of the deck for next year's garden and not have to worry about the moose. Here's a link for an example. www.homedepot.com/b/Outdoors-Garden-Center-Raised-Garden-Beds/N-5yc1vZbx7c

Cory, use any of the mint family (including lemon balm) to rub on your skin to help keep mosquitoes away, it's not toxic and you can use it around Chell. BTW, you really should have put your onions between your different above ground plants, it would have helped to prevent flavor bleed over. Good Luck!

Chell has the sweetest face. She's got a healthy pair of lungs, too! You guys are such wonderful parents! Kristen looks beautiful. I love that sweater of hers. I wonder if that little enclosure around your plants will be enough to keep the moose from eating it. They could just easily push it over and get to the plants if they really wanted to, couldn't they? I have no idea I'm just thinking out loud. Good luck with the garden, anyway and I hope it yields good results. By the way, watching the Tour de France would put a lot of people to sleep! Seems to do the same thing for Chell! :)

LOL, engineering degree here too and yes the lack of sleep helps prepare you for parenthood ha ha. I remember my last semester of college during finals week, I'd had 5 hrs sleep in 3 days and was crawling in bed to get a few hours sleep before handing in my senior design project the next morning...and the tornado siren went off lol.
Your baby is beautiful! Not too much longer until you will be able to sleep longer at night :). About 2 months old or so.

If you took the fence apart at the hinges, you could have gotten double the gardening space by setting it against the side of the house or an enclosure. :) Just a thought.

Have you thought of buying the magic suit. It is made for babies and they sleep better. Also what about white noise. If you play it, it sounds like the noise inside the womb. It helps them to sleep better. I know you get so many suggestions and I usually do not intervene, but I really believe in these items. Take care and Chell is beautiful!!!!

Fussiness after feeding could be a result of what Kristin is eating. I breast fed 3 babies and for me.... it was tomato, lettuce ,(anything green really) broccoli, and for one of them anything dairy I ingested. Start small and try to think of something you've been eating a lot of. Cut it out and see how she does for 3 consecutive feedings... trial and error but I guarantee its something your probably eating. **Note: you can slowly add these things back in as she grows in the coming weeks its just because she is so young and sensitive. :-) Keep trudging on though! It does get easier!!!

It's hard word. The hardest thing in the world. The sleep deprivation is like torture but you wouldn't have it any other way. My youngest didn't sleep through for 14 months. She was up 3/4 times a night at least. I never left her, I always got up to see if she was ok, hungry, just needed to feel safe. Some people criticised me, told me i should leave her and she'd 'learn to sleep through' HELL NO!! If she needs me, I'm there like a shot. Now at 18 months she sleeps through. I didn't do that, she did. She's the happiest little girl. It's so hard, it's so exhausting, but it's so worth it xxxx

Glad she is sleeping through. I am serious when I say this...my youngest did not sleep through the night until he was about 10 or 11...but even when he got bigger he would just play in there. That is when I found out he was hyperactive LOL

+simply danLrene well I relate to that too a bit! Eldest is 10 in August and I put her to bed at 8 but she's usually playing about in her room until 10pm...needs the loo, scared of something, thirsty etc! It doesn't ever stop. Then she'll be going out one day with her friends and I'll be sitting at home worried sick 😩

Tammy Key true. We do not ever quit being a parent. It changes a little but we don't quit. I had to make my son understand when he became a teen that me telling him to be careful when he went out was not insulting him or acting like I thought he could not do. It was a mama thing and I do it to this day but he knows now.

The fact you have three plus zucchini plants is terrifying. Do you know how much zucchini one plant makes? My boyfriend's mom has two plants, and she can't pick them fast enough before she's buried in the stuff (half the time, we give them to goats/chickens). And the plants are for her and her parents, so three families (grandparents, parents, and my family) can survive off two plants.
(I'm slowly catching up, only have a few more months to go!)

Your plants look great, the feeling of seeing seed grow into plants that grow veggies and then cooking dinner out of them is just so rewarding. I have to grow my plants in big pots because I have no garden, so one cheap trick I do is not buying planting pots but buying cheap, big buckets and just drilling in some holes for drainage. Maybe this way you can keep some plants safe from the moose ;) You could also tape 3 sticks into a ┻━┻ and stick it into one pot or connect 2 pots to help them climb, cucumbers really like that. No matter how it will turn out, your first self-grown veggies will taste amazing :)

When exclusively breastfeeding some babies will refuse anything else. But if you introduce it soon enough it will help in the long run or you end up like me and have babies who want boob for everything that happens. Your boob will become their pacifier. But it's all your choice! Stay strong! Breastfeeding can take A LOT out of you!

plant marigolds around your garden. Animals don't like the smell or taste. try it out.

Works even better if there heirloom marigolds. Not sure how easy they'll be to find in Alaska.

You have become my favorite vlog. I have decided that your baby is simply beautiful. Kristen you are so right. No sleep it seems the first three months but then seems like around the fourth month a turning happens and they sleep longer. But it is so worth it. I learned to nap when my sons napped LOL. My boys were big like her and my youngest son was 22 inches long and is very tall. Just a thought...have you ever pumped just to see how much milk you are producing? I had to supplement one child with a formula bottle as I just did not produce like I should but I still breast fed. But he was not getting enough to fill him up.
Cory just a suggestion as we are avid gardeners. Maybe next time or you can rearrange when you feel like it...put the vine ones next to the fence as you can tie the vines to the fence so they grow grow upward. We actually grow our squash in 5 gallon containers and our cucumbers, pumpkins etc and just hook them to the fence. We are in CO...the land of rocky dirt ..really bad rocky and dryness ...so we had to learn to improvise as we came from GA which is big gardening areas.

Cucumbers like to climb things and spread out a ton. You may want to move the one that is not close to the fence closer to the fence so it can climb it

Also, props to David for such a gift.

    • @Silkendrum
      @Silkendrum 8 років тому +13

I suspect it should be 36 cm. 36 inches circumference would mean an almost 12 inch diameter, so, uh, no.

It's normal that your baby girl is bigger than most, since you are, Cory. 9/10 girls take after the father and 9/10 boys take after the mother. So when big guys and tiny girls have kids, the boys are usually small and the girls are usually big.
What IS unusual is how beautiful Kristin looked throughout the pregnancy (at least according to Italian folklore). Italians have been predicting sex of the child for millenia by how the woman looks during the pregnancy. If it's a boy, mom usually glows and becomes more beautiful as the pregnancy goes on. If it's a girl, she becomes haggard. They say that the girl "steals" the woman's beauty to become a beauty herself. Using this folklore, I have correctly predicted sex of the baby 100&...until now. I totally missed it with your baby. Way to skew the experiment guys!
This had me wondering if your daughter is going to be one of the "ones we have been waiting for"...the more Universe-citizen types, displaying more love, fairness, intelligence, etc.

Working hard is essentially a fruitful experience. Whether or not it's to study for exams, to do some chores, or to look after the baby. Good job Cory and Kristen, for working hard all this time.

In 1990 my husband and I left Washington, D.C. where we each worked - without knowing each other. We went to Fairbanks to college and meet there. We were inseparable since then. We had one baby in Fairbanks and one baby in Kodiak... and my hubby had to join the Coast Guard to support us. Over the course of our time we've had to leave Alaska - kicking and screaming... but we left. I have only recently discovered your journey and I have gone back to watch your love affair with each other, Alaska, and your beautiful new baby. It has been wonderful to watch your journey b/c it so mirrors what we went through 25 years ago! Thank you for sharing your life we us.

You will go on the rides when she is older. :P I did with my son and still do. I have some videos on my channel about that. The traveling carnivals are so awesome! I have been going to them once or twice a year for more than a decade. Never have been hurt or even scared I would be hurt. :D
My son was a little nervous the first time on the carousel but now that is his favorite thing and he also loves the band organs. He wants to build his own band organ and collect them into a museum when he is older. Little things you don't even think of can turn into big things for your children. I know you both will give her a ton of cool experiences so she can find what resonates with her. :D

I feel ya, Cory. We have deer, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, etc. Someone may have already suggested this. And I don't know if it will work with moose or not, but Irish Spring Soap drives the deer away from my tender crops and my fruit trees. It is a cheap experiment if you get desperate. It also helps with rabbits, but not as well.
Baby and Mama look great! This too shall pass (all too quickly).

When my son was a wee one, he would not go to sleep unless I sang to him. I always, every nap and bed time, sing "I love you for always". But then I'll add in any of my favorite songs. I still rock and sing him to sleep and he just turned 4. It is one of our favorite parts of our day!
