Thank you for posting this and thank you google for making it the first suggestion! Sad part is all I'm trying to change is that damn clutch pulley and that takes 2 minutes! But tools won't fit so I have to remove the alternator to do it! This backyard mechanic is very thankful!

I only unplugged the positives and negative from the top and cut the wheel to the right didn’t have to take the tire off though. Good video all the same
By the top you mean from the jumpstart point? Is this just as effective as disconnecting from directly to battery? Im attempting this tomorrow. Thnx.

Update that no one asked for. You CAN disconnect the battery from the top (jump start) connections. Holy cow that saved me so much time.
We have this car and had to replace the alternator more than once. Its really annoying. Now the battery light is on and so is power saver mode again. Now another problem again.
Anybody who knows about changing batteries in this thing can understand when I say is there an easier way to disconnect the battery from the top?
Sure, just remove the airbox. But if you are trying to swap batteries, tire has to come off.
If I ever buy a dodge journey I'll know how to do this. I just watched to watch.
Don't buy one
I agree, don't buy one or any vehicle made under the Stellantis umbrella. My parents bought both a brand new Jeep and Dodge and both have been nothing but problematic.
mine just broke down on me yesterday. I was driving and the radio cut off and battery saver mode came on. then the rpms shot up and I couldn't catch a gear. all my electrical started flickering. car won't start but you can hear starter engaging. dash display flashes when trying to start. do you think this is the repair I should do to get the car running again?
Does the check engine light or any codes when the alternator is broke?
It will show battery light on for sure and I will fix the problem cuz customer said it making noise while driving or running… I believe it recalls

Rosekay Arnold Correct but battery was the actual problem with my vehicle...I wanted to upload footage for “how to” content.... alternator tested fine...Bad Battery!!!
Say.. did you have to also remove the ac compressor to get the alternator off?

Hi, I am from South Africa, I used to own a 2014 Dodge Journey 2.4L SXT with less than 40000km and I had an issue where there was an error on the dash while driving and there was NO explanation in the user manual as to what it was for. Eventually the vehicle stalled and had to be taken to a dealer, and it was found that the Alternator was faulty and that I also had to replace the PCM module as well, which apparently also required programming? I did some research on this and found that there were recalls issued for some model of Dodge vehicles for alternator failures. I also found that while the Journey was NOT listed in the recall the the part number for the faulty alternator in the recall is the same as the part number on the Journey alternator 4801490AA, the replacement part number ends in AC. I would advise people to check the MOPAR site and put in their VIN numbers to see what recalls there are for that VIN. By the way I was sad that you never included the testing part in your video.
How much did the alternator cost you ?

He used a jack stand. Maybe that was an after edit but I definitely saw one.
