    Well done. I didn't know you could get a gasket, I didn't want to use RTV. I'm doing this in the spring now. I heard you can use the oil dipstick and measure it about 2" (if memory serves). There is a video out there that shows that being used.

    Is there a pan you can get with a drain plug like I did on my 95 zj? I'm about to take my 3.6 2018 awd journey in for 60k (m at 65k now)service (just cause Temps just hit 30s). Was only going to do transfer case and rear diff. I'll do trans myself in the spring.

      Thank you. You don’t have to use a torque wrench you can just tighten them by hand with a socket wrench and shouldn’t have any issues. You also may be able to do this without jacking it up if you have enough ground clearance.

    I have.a 2917, 4 banger, and procedure for tranny fluid change is about the same. I changed my fluid at 40,000 earlier than recommended. My 4 banger came with a dip stick. Most of the recommended maintenance intervals seem too far apart. I use synthetic motor oil as i get about 1.5 mpg improvement.

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  2 роки тому +2

      Could be that your transmission fluid is low or transmission fluid is old and needs replaced. How many miles is on the car? What is the transmission fluid temperature running at? Do you notice any fluid leaks around the transmission?

    • @Nancy-bw6te
      @Nancy-bw6te 2 роки тому +1

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  2 роки тому +3

      @@Nancy-bw6te I would definitely check your transmission fluid in case it’s overheating but to do that you’ll have to take it to the dealer or purchase the aftermarket dipstick and follow the video I did on how to use it. You may want to also look at your rear differential if it’s an awd model to make sure it’s not leaking any gear oil because I’ve seen where the rear end looses fluid and then overheats making the rear end lock up not allowing the vehicle to move.

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  2 роки тому +2

      How old it the transmission and how many miles is on it? Have you noticed any drips on the ground or signs that it’s leaking? When was the last time the fluid and filter was replaced? Does yours have the dipstick to where you can check the level? A filter and fluid change is probably where I would start if your fluid level is good that will be your cheapest option at the moment. I’m wandering if your filter screen is clogged creating low pressure. If not you may have an issue with the pump.

    To all it may concern, dont waist money buying the dorman dip stick.Instead take your oil dip stick and measure from the bottom up 2 1/16" draw a line with a Sharpie that line is your new transmission full line keeping your tranny fluid between the just be low the top of the full oil line and your sharpie line is your safe mark for the tranny. Again 2 -1/16 from the bottom of the oil dip stick up is your new tranny full line. I knotched mine by just nicking the stick with a drummel you can even just use a Sharp punch and put a small dot there, and yes you can buy a new pan with the drain plug.For the record for a dirty as that fluid was I think you may have waisted your money on the new fluid and filter...

    Was there a reason you decided to perform this? Were you experiencing any transmission issues. Trying to figure out what I can do for mine issue.

    That is not the correct flushing method. That transmission contains about 9 cuarts of ATF. The changing of filter he did is ok

    • @BLUECOLLARGARAGE
      @BLUECOLLARGARAGE  2 роки тому +13

      First of all I didn’t do a flush I did a drain and refill with a filter replacement. 2nd 9 qts is the total capacity of the transmission if it was bone dry. 3rd when you just do a drain and filter replacement you don’t get all the fluid out of the transmission plus you have different variables such as how long you let the transmission drip into the drain pan and temperature of the fluid when your draining it because atf expands with heat. 4th that’s why you always measure how much came out initially so you don’t overfill it and use a dipstick and the temperature chart provided with it. 5th so the amount of atf I put back in was correct.
