    About Kindred Spirits
The origin story of a legendary friendship: When his new companion is accused of murder, Flint Fireforge must find a way to clear the half-elf's name
When Flint Fireforge, dwarf and metalsmith, receives a wondrous summons from the Speaker of the Sun, he journeys to the fabled elven city of Qualinost. There, he meets Tanis, a thoughtful youth born of a tragic union between elf and man. Tanis and Flint, each a misfit in his own way, find themselves unlikely friends.
But a pompous elf lord is mysteriously slain, and another elf soon meets the same fate. Tanis stands accused, and if his innocence cannot be proven, the half-elf will be banished forever. Solving the mystery will be a perilous task. Time is on the murderer's side-and he is not finished yet.

I read the entire Dragonlance catalogue in the late 80s early 90s (I'm almost 50).
It was such a treet to save my allowance and paperboy money to weekly head down to the friendly Mom & Pop bookstore to grab a new TSR product, whether it be a Dragonlance or Forgotten realms novel, module, Ral Partha mini, or just this months Dragon or Dungeon magazine. Man, those were the days. I stopped reading Dragonlance after Dragons of Summer Flame (just seems like the right jumping off point for me at the time).
I'm currently re-reading my collection and Im on Dragons of Spring Dawning (timely).
Keep up the great videos, and thanks for provides us all the oportunity to do a little bit of timetravelling.

Right on, are you enjoying them as much in the reread as when you originally read them?

@@DLSaga It's hard to compare, it's like apples and oranges, because I've matured so much since then and my perspective on things is different. I enjoy them, but not necessarily the same way as when I was a young fella. That's not to say that I enjoy them any less now.
I think it has more to do with the effort It takes me now to suspend my disbelief and enjoy fiction. I find fantasy is the hardest genre (as an adult) to suspend my disbelief. But once I do, my mind is teleported away from today's modern woes and it's quite therapeutic. In the case of rereading over fantasy, it brings back so many memories from the time I read it that it feels like timetraveling. Sometimes the emotional bits in the stories just hit me, almost like emotional dejavu.

I still have this book. I still have all my DL series books that I started collecting in the 90s. Out of my entire library collection that I've accumulated over the years, these have followed me from house to house. Every other book I've had I've donated or sold back, except for these. I have all the Chronicles on audiobook now and the Brothers Majere series, and the War of Souls series, but I will never let go of my DL books.

I feel the same way. I regret giving my DL game products away.

I definitely care! Haha I've been having a lot of fun re-reading the saga recently. I went in a different order than you initially, but I'm now aligned with your list which has been fun to understand and comment during the live reviews and I encourage other fans to do the same. I actually do remember loving this book as I was/am a huge Tanis fan and loved the relationship he had with Flint. Hoping it holds up!

I'm pretty sure there are some people who don't like The Meeting Sextet series but i love it especially since it reveals more about my favorite fantasy Companions.
Edit: Man I love Kindred Spirits great book and it kept me guessing. I especially liked how Flint hamed up the grumpy grouchy dwarf fot the elf kids. Currently reading Wanderlust book 2 of Meeting Sextet.

I read this book in 1992. My first year at university. I was playing an AD&D half-elf Ranger at the time, and Tanis Half-Elven was a role model. I ended playing that character for 9 years... 1990-1998. Good times...

Oh, I remember reading that reading and liking that one back when it came out. I was always haunting the book store then! I suspect my copy is either at my mom's house or with one of my gaming buddies.

This one is tempting because I love Qualinost and the idea of focusing on Tanis and his adoptive family vs. the first of his new family, Flint Fireforge. If these authors can capture at least something resembling the dynamic Margaret wrote, I could happily "canonize" this. The stakes of a murder mystery and Tanis accused sound appropriately low and personal for the early companions stories (unlike Meeting six which I think pits them against Sargonnas on Mithras) - I think Soulforge had the right idea. My older brother has Meetings and Preludes (amongst many others) in storage, and seems to think those twelve are safely ignored, but I wonder if there's a gem or two that fits with the main novels.

If memory serves, it treats Tanis and flint appropriately.

This is one of the first non-Weis and Hickman novels that I read after having finished Chronicles and Legends. I really enjoyed it, particularly since Tanis is my favorite character.

Hello DL Saga Adam I enjoy seeing and learning about Novels I may have not know of. And I just went and got the 2 New Novels on paperback to Read. Can not wait to find out what Margaret and Tracy came up with. Any Novels you or others recommend that Tracy and Margaret did not write? Thanks

I’m partial to the Kingpriest trilogy and the Elven Nations trilogy. The Taladas trilogy is gold as well.
