What was best about this era of dungeons and dragons was the lack of constant wit and irony everything uses today. I love the sincere sober mindedness that this is presented in. Makes all the difference between something feeling frivolous or significant and worthwhile.
It’s called Millennial writing and believe it or not, it started with a Gen X writer: Joss Whedon. Buffy was a net negative to art and storytelling. Marvel’s Avengers was also written & directed by, you guessed it, Whedon.
You hit the nail on the head. No wonder I like the old school better. I love a bit of humor now and then, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it being a genre _expectation_ or _necessity_ is a bit much.
As someone who is dyslexic and has struggled with reading for decades, I really apprecieate this. Of the few books that I read and was able to enjoy, this series of books was my favorite. Thank you so much retelling these awesome stories.
His Performance of Tasslehoff and all other characters by the end of Legends Trilogy is just pure amazing. You can hear how well it all evolved by the 6th book.
I'm such a huge fan of this whole series, I'm actually rereading Knight of the black rose as well. Lord Soth is one of my all-time favorite characters ever, and the Majere Brothers are on the same pedestal!! I'm also reading back through the soul forge as well. My order is a little haywire lol, little mini reading back through them for the nostalgia and all the memories. I'm actually working on creating all of these characters on baldur's gate 3 currently.
Awww, it's quite abridged 😔. I really miss some memorable moments; Tasslehoff arguing with Flint because Flint refuses to get in the boat, Sturm following the deer... I like the voices, but would have loved an unabridged version
I used to own these tapes at a kid! So cool to hear this rendition with Peter! Thanks for posting this. I’ll be playing this before bed for many nights
Awesome..! When you're finished listening to it you can rewind it with a pencil....!!! I used to get scolded by my HS teachers in NJ because I would constantly rewind cassette tapes this way to save on walkman batteries......
The cassette got caught in the tape player and tangled it up. My girlfriend at the time and I, carefully unwound and untangled it all night, laying it in the street almost two blocks long before carefully winding it back up. I felt like a surgeon saving a life.
Yo thank you so much for posting this I have been looking for these to listen to throughout the day at work lol. I have the books downloaded and I have most of them in paperback at home, but it's hard to read while I work on trucks LOL. I'm trying to read the whole series so I'm going to check more into your channel and see if you have the others
I loved checking out these tapes from the library. The abridged effort may be flawed but the narration, performance and musical injections are marvelous!
Bookmark: 1:19:37 Ah yes! I had the book of Lost Histories that was named "The Dragons." I never knew this was a whole series until later in life. I want to listen to all of these. Thank you for this!
I need my oldest son second born after strum brightblade i read wvery book i believe from 7th grade till start of my freshman year 1991 I'm not sure if they ended then or not i was giddy to see the audio on UA-cam sense Mt bedtime was 8pm untill I left home I fell asleep reading these books with a flash light
Hearing this so many years later, I never realized how many errors there are, the introductions, quotes missing, Tas missing lines and actions, Theicrat not burning himself again, the old man’s dialog changing, Tanis’ leadership changed fleeing, Raistlins spell scene not calling the spell and his acidic tone towards his brother.
@@GetMeAReubenSandwich I had no idea it was, however the 5 video set I’ve been listening to for the last 3 years mysteriously was deleted off YT yesterday. It had the thumbnails with the large blue numbers if you’ve seen them before. Very upsettting as the voice acting was better. EDIT - I’m not trashing your channel, you simply uploaded another version of the audiobook I wasn’t familiar with and it should be saved for historical reasons.
@@nesmandan1037 Absolutely, I completely agree. Never heard or seen the vids you speak of. Preservation was my aim in posting these. They were my original introduction to Dragonlance many many years ago. Peter McNichol's voice work really brings the stories to life... in my opinion.
When in my younger years tooks so long to read this chronicle a massive book all 3 combined over a thousand page's but not i can listen to it and they read it so fast lol
“As he rested, he pulled a block of wood from his pack and began eating it” is how the sentence naturally goes, not sure why they felt the need to change it
Very abridged; and sped up as usual. I guess people do this to try and condense the stories onto a smaller space. Custom speed 0.85 is more like the original
Recorded about 20 or so years ago from my own cassettes on a standard dual cassette deck. Not sped up at all. Unles you're speaking of the production and not my actual recordings.
@@GetMeAReubenSandwich In my memory, this was fairly accurate depiction of the books. It just leaves some details out which also happens in movie translations.
The modules allowed no deviation from the planned path and storyline, no player agency nor any DM agency, they were like a solo adventure roleplay book that only had one "turn to page number" option at the bottom of each page, the authors were clearly entirely ignorant of what D&D was or how to write a module for it.. the books, low quality drivel, at best the fantasy equivalent of a piece of low effort mills and boons write by numbers by someone who wasn't a fan of the genre and didn't really like what they were doing, the artwork was acceptable but as a whole Dragon Lance was a complete waste of money for any D&D table that bought any of it 👎 on the whole utter trash and a waste of money.. change my mind, go on, try 🤗

Glad you enjoyed it
Isn’t this the same as the books tho?
@@yourfriendlyneighbourhoodl6206Yes! I can't read while working or driving though.
One of the 1st books I remember reading. Greatly improved my reading skills. 35+ years later still reading and enjoy it.

All character voices are performed by one person, Peter MacNicol... A genius character actor.

Peter MacNicol's voice is who I hear when I think Dragonlance characters. Thanks for the great audiobook.
I grew up listening to these tapes! I’m giddily excited to hear them again.
I read the books and played the D&D modules back in the 80s. My characters were Riverwind and Goldmoon

I still have this on cassette

Thank you for uploading! I plan to run an AD&D2e Dragonlance campaign soon and wanted to read the first 2 novels.
Oh, that would be a wonderful trip down memory lane. I still have a lot of my 2nd Ed material. Great years back then!
My childhood! Thank you!
That intro music is the same they used in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force "Dr. Weird" intros! 😂
Just THANK you
Peter MacNicol starred in one of the early sword and sorcery films: Dragonslayer :)
When Disney made movies that were actually worth watching, an excellent film.
I love how u add the random voices during the Inn scene ♥️
These are awesome! Great throwback! Do you happen to have any of the old Drizzt series by Random House? Thnx 👊Subbed!!
Sadly, no.
