I'm lucky enough to have this watch and it's a real beauty. To be honest anytime I'm near water or any activities where my watch can get damaged I put on my Citizen diver's watch. This watch is too nice to risk leaving at the bottom of the ocean! You say Sellita 200 movement, I thought this was in house? I will get a rubber strap even though the bracelet is gorgeous. Thanks for the review.
No, for this one (not sure of the titanium one off hand) but this one they went SW200 and not Fossil’s STP movement.
Very much appreciate your excellent detailed review.
Sometimes I feel like the only watch lover on earth who doesn’t *mind* butterfly clasps. IMHO dive extensions on metal bracelets are like helium release valves: Completely pointless for 99.99% of wearers.
And I think that applies even for the vast majority of those of us who DO occasionally dive. I’m not a master diver, but I hold several certifications and have taken my timepieces diving. IMHO, if you’re wearing a wetsuit, you should never dive with any watch with a metal bracelet, period. Rubber straps, especially those with ability to both expand AND contract, are vastly superior.
So with a piece like this Zodiac, which I’m really liking on initial review, I’m never taking it diving on a bracelet anyways. I’d put the rubber strap on it, even if only temporarily for a specific dive trip.
Hello there. Thanks for watching and for your detailed reply. As I have always said, I am not a diver and do not dive, but taking diving out of the equation, dive extensions are very helpful even if you do not dive, as with many bracelets, getting them to fit on many different sized wrists is not easy and an extension like Breitling, Monta, Rolex, and even Christopher Ward do (other brands do rachet extensions as well but it's a big piece that comes out of the clasp, these brands use one that slides into the clasp, only revealing more of the link, so it's undetected) that allow you to get a perfect fit on your wrist, especially if there are no half links in the bracelet and the links are quite large.
I have had my eye on Zodiac for awhile. I have to say that I agree with you on the shortcomings of this piece. I do like the look of the compression style diver and it is one that I have considered.
I'm a DM. This is a great value piece. COSC and ISO means it's to a useful spec. 42 is big enough to be easily read when diving. The clasp is a miss, but a rubber strap is better if you're actually going to use it to dive anyway - agree, this should be an option. The recreational limit is 30M (used to be 40) so non-pros should not bust that - I'm thinking 8-10x safety factor should do it :-) In terms if actual recreational dive use, it's good to have a backup set to descent in case of primary computer failure but 99% of dives are probably guided, divers should be buddied up properly anyway and if you get a failure, you can end your dive - it's "recreational". Pros have backup computers, specific plans and topside backup - they know what they need. Zodiac is one of the three 1953 trinity with Rolex and Blancpain - lots of heritage for 10% of the price people. Nice review 👍
Thank you for all the info. Much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the review.
yeah, I like the Watch , I like they didnt use a wonky STP Movement, the clasp makes me wonder what theyre Smoking in the Board Room at Fossil? charging what.... $95 for a Rubber Strap? I'll just buy a Barton strap
No one will use this over a wetsuit - well not with that bracelet. Given that this is 20mm lug width, I'll probably keep the original metal bracelet in the box for safe keeping and team it up with a shark-mesh bracelet (non integrated) from StrapCode, or use the funky orange rubber strap.
Great job and as always fantastic.
Appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the review.
Nice review. Thank you.
Welcome!
I just can't understand why they went with a butterfly clasp.
As far as I know it doesnt matter because have stretch system
I was curious about this new release, because it's quite attractive. I was disappointed in the misses such as the lume and clasp though. Come on, Zodiac! It's almost enough to make me want to drive over to the Fossil HQ (not sure if Zodiac offices out of there), and give them a stern talking to. The clasp is obviously intentional for some reason, and the lume is probably just lack of attention to detail and/or a budget measure. I actually do like the curved top on the bezel though, and COSC certification is a win in a watch well below $2K.
I guess I’m the only guy who likes butterfly clasps. I agree with the other guy in the comments, 99.99% of you don’t need the diver extension and even if you did dive you use a rubber strap. Stop complaining over features you’ll never use. Then omega puts the helium escape valve on the diver 300m and everybody complains. My only complaint with these would honestly only be the bracelet. I’m not a fan of the five link styles as I feel it’s a bit bland. I have the topper edition blue rally sea wolf and it has the jubilee bracelet and blue rubber strap, both of which I use and love. Absolutely love zodiac and everything there doing. I do think they should consider making a new style watch though as all there really good for right now is the super sea wolf, as amazing as those are imo
You do realize, if I glossed over it or said it’s no big deal, I would be flamed in the comments. Lol.
As I said to the other commenter, I like it more for some extra room to slide out to get a better fit, as butterfly clasps just have never done it for me.
Anyways, it is what it is. I review it as such.
@@watchreport that’s fine I didn’t watch the whole thing to hear you. That’s a valid concern. I wasn’t replying to you so much though I was reacting to the other comments. A little wiggle room though is completely understandable and I agree. My butterfly jubilee will extend about a cm but less than impressive. Luckily I’m at a sweet spot weight wise where the watch fits perfectly. Good video tho nonetheless! Like and subscribed🤲🏻
All divers (that I know) use the rubber strap. 👍
in the same pricepoint as sinn 104 and other sinn models which offer a bit more and no ghost position on this no date
anyone know if this movement is anti magnetic
Yes it is. It is the reason they went Sellita as the STP movements aren’t up to snuff on the anti-magnetic just yet.
@@watchreport thank you for response. Making me lean more towards this watch now.
love the look except for the hands
Nice but too big for my wrist.Ill stick with older version.Plus I hope for a Sst SeaWolf remake
Nice watch. Not near enough stretch in the clasp, which is my least favorite style: butterfly. Gotta pass. I do want a Zodiac one day. Not this one however. A bit too much $$.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm a DM.
I can't understand why people buy a watch and complain, when the watch has a water resistance on severeal hundred meters, or even thousands, when they don't even dive themselfes. I can't understand why people complain on a watch made for diving, when they don't even dive.
Go buy yourself another watch. If the watch is made for example 1000m deep water, it have to have some functions that can resist the pressure. This comes with a different look from a watch that can resist for example 10m. It's easy to understand why.
You can't dive with a watch that have sharp edges made of metal, because it's dangerous for you to do it. It is as simple as that. People have to learn how to use their brain and how to add 1+1.
Is this directed at the channel or are you speaking to someone in the comments? What are you going on about?
14.3 thick wtf.
To big ... Better 39 or 40 mm
Why companies make dive watches without a dive extension is incredible to me. They're just clueless.
