This is kind of funny because i was never really a Monkees fan. I thought they were silly and juvenile. I was too " grown up" for them. In 2000 i moved to Hawaii and took a position taking care of Chip Douglas' mother. Chip was the first producer of The Monkees' album. She passed away at the age of 92 but Chip and his sister told me i was welcome to use the house whenever i would be in Hawaii. So a few years later i got married and wanted to introduce my new husband to Hawaii. I called Chip and told him the date i wanted to come. He said that was fine but Davy Jones was performing in Hawaii and staying at the house. Would i mind sharing the house for a day with Davy because he was leaving the day after we were to arrive. So it was all worked out and we got to meet Davy and a girlfriend at the time. I never had the nerve to tell Davy i had not been a fan but i certainly became one after meeting him. He was so down to earth and kind. My husband was in a wheelchair and from the moment Davy met us he took charge of my husband in the wheelchair and wouldnt let me do any of the putting the wheelchair in the car or taking it out. He was just an amazing person. His attitude toward life and his ready smile and loving ways made us fall in love with him. I have met other celebrities but no one compares to him. We were so sad when he passed.
I'm 68 now meet Davy when I was 15 spent 2 days with him it's a long story but meet him in Manchester were his dad and sister lived in Gorton rember it like yesterday I was so in love with this guy it was a dream come true
Love the way the guys got along and they all realize that it's normal to fight a bit , sometimes, but they didn't take it to heart and just remained friends .
From the many things I meanwhile saw and read about Davy, I´ve come to the conclusion that he was a sweet man and a had a huge personality. It´s adorable how he cared for his fans, his family of course, but also for his neighbours and practically anyone else! I bitterly regret it, not to have known him personally.
I'm not even kidding when I say the tambourine isn't as easy as it looks to make sound good. I've got plenty of them and nobody I know can make them sound as good as Davy did.
Although I'm a musician--piano, keyboard, guitar and singer--I learned how to play the tamborine and maracas by watching Davy play them on TV. And you're right, the tamborine isn't as easy to make sound good--it does take its toll on your hand when you're trying to keep a rhythm...at least that's been my experience.
RIP, Davey, such a loss, i was in shock, when i found out about his death, last week, it was so sudden, he had tour dates for this year, i read the comments from the other monkees, about his death, some very nice, thoughts.
Some very heavy and frank confessions here from Davy and Peter. I think Micky was the Monkee that everyone else in the band got along with. All other combinations varied at times. Even Mick and Davy had a point in their lives where they didn't talk to each other for about 9 years! I think that some of them just had working relationships in reality but everyone wanted more than that to exist.
So true, That was part of the fantasy. Everyone would love to live with their pals in malibu beach pad (like the one these guys could somehow afford) and to be a rock star. But more than anything, to have that sort of friendship. To have such adventures - but more than anything, have the sort of bond where nobody, ever is left behind by their pals. The fact that they were so different made the magic. But of course, so difficult for them to get along on real life. I think there were similar dynamics in the Golden Girls to some degree. I was wondering what the relationships were really like in Friends too. I am finally coming to terms with the fact that my Monkees were not really best buddies at last. I may one day get over it!
Isn't it sad that we get to know someone more after their death. Davy was part of my growing up and I'll miss him. Thanks for the entertainment, you made me laugh and smile.
Of the interviews I've seen of Davy, this is my favorite. He seems so relaxed & down to earth-IMHO he has a very grounded/humble view of "celebrity" & doesn't take himself too seriously-As evidenced by his smile when he talks about Letterman voting him the # 10, 3 & 1 tambourine player :) One of my first crushes (he was probably bored hearing this)-most sad for me is realizing that someone who was such a part of my childhood & gave me so much joy is no longer here-Thx Davy & G-d bless you too
I love that davy says here that he and Peter and Micky WERE like bros. Micky has said that since but its easy to say that when the other person is not here, so to hear Davy himself saying that they were like bros is soooooo lovely. How he talks about Mike, well not a surprise to me actually, cos Mike you can see he would be like that. Yep weird not saying goodnight to your friend.
Rest in peace Davy i hope you sing a lot of song to god i no god will love it couse god is a loving god and he is soo soo kind people say they no davy not really i believe what he said a bout noing him he is a true guy some people say davy don.t like micky and peter and mike duh yes he love them like they were his brother
I'm curious about how Davy felt about Mike. It seems to have not been good yet Micky's tales of Mike are totally different. Micky said that Mike was the funniest person he'd ever met and was funny and spontaneous on the set and made him laugh. Peter lived with Mike also and seemed to have a different experience. Shame as I've never heard Mike speak about Davy in a negative way unlike an interview I saw where Davy was downright rude and agressive towards Mike.
sharkey422000 : Everybody has a different chemistry with each other in this world. You can have two best friends who get along great with you but cannot stand each other. Friendships are like snowflakes, no two are alike.
Oh believe me, Mike had negative things to say about Davy but most were not made public except in books that were written. He didn't respect Davy apparently.
@MsJCBurke Me too I just want to give him a hug too. I was happy he said that Peter he and Micky were like bros, I wanted to tell him that. soooo sad cant tell him. Want to ask what was a word Mike 'invented'? Def can see Mike being the way Davy describes him, he seemed very much the same on and off screen
It was disappointing that Davey Jones never learned the cow bell. I mean it's not just an instrument you can pick up over night. How many sleepless minutes it took him to learn the Is tambourine. I guess asking him to learn the cow bell would have been too much.

After 8 years of Davy's passing, I can't get over it 😔

A bit of my childhood died when Davey died, I didn't think that it would effect me as much as it did...
Love the way the guys got along and they all realize that it's normal to fight a bit , sometimes, but they didn't take it to heart and just remained friends .
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss Davy so very much..You will always my heart Davy Jones
Thanks for the gift you gave me through my lifetime Davey. Condolences to your family and friends, may you Rest in Peace

I can so see young Davy Jones saying in his British accent "Get outta here before I flatten ya." xD
In this video he still has a strong British accent. In fact, he never lost it.
We miss you Davy. Keep singing up there

He never lost a bit of his accent.
RIP DAVY JONES
Mike was an only child, most tend to be on an island among themselves....
This is very true. I have extended family who are only children.
good group.how many times jones said (you know) in this interview

They all found Mike tough going at times because he kept his distance but Peter was the one that least got on with him. Peter was closest to Davy.
Oh believe me, Mike had negative things to say about Davy but most were not made public except in books that were written. He didn't respect Davy apparently.
❤❤❤❤
I like how he talk about mike lol
