    The retrospective insights they gave come from years of fame and friendship as a family of old friends. No goofing, just real. A very rich and true interview. Thanks for this. Love these guys since I was 12 years old in 1966. Parts of my youth gone by...

    I was fortunate to have met Micky, Davy and Peter at an autograph signing several years ago and it was also cool to shake their hands too. It was also great to have seen them live in 1986 in Pittsburgh at their "20th Anniversary" comeback concert!

    This interview is 12 years old, and Davy died months after this broadcasted. Felt bad about that. He didn't look to good. Peter, (was my favorite Monkey), seemed kind of agitated, and Mickey looked like he was disconnecting himself. They didn't look too happy, in this interview. I loved to watch the Monkeys, reruns. I was a baby when they had the show, my mom liked them. I watched the later reruns. Long gone great times.

    These guys were REALLY. cool people and definitely got a lot of shit that they in NO way deserved. However, IMO I think Nesmith caused a great deal of this because he made such a big deal about them NOT playing on the records when in fact that was common practice at the time, especially if you are making a television show at the same time. The Monkees then got stigmatized as frauds when almost ALL the bands were doing the same thing. The Beach Boys didn't play on their records but DIDN'T publicly announce it to the world as Nesmith did.
    I think Dolenz put it best when he said the Wrecking Crew couldn't have been credited on records back then because they were on virtually everyone's records. I understand Nesmith's point, and Tork had similar feelings, but later said he TOTALLY understands the producers now and he would do it the exact way they did in hindsight. In fact, after Headquarters they did revert to using studio musicians.
    Nesmith had it WAY better right out of the gate as he was writing songs for those records and consequently reaping royalties from their MASSIVE sales. His comments hurt Jones, Tork and
    Dolenz more than they did him. LET'S NOT EVEN GET INTO LIQUID PAPER! LOL

      They hated eachother other Davey especially hated the band and hated the guys in the band look at the way his sitting with his arms close to his body that's a defensive position

    • @lynettepalecek3141
      @lynettepalecek3141 Рік тому +1

      @Don Johnson First off, you're completely wrong when you said that they hated each other. Second, you're extremely ignorant about the body language. You're a very foolish person for believing the nutty people who say that "folded arms is always a defensive sign." People who say that are dead wrong!!!! I started reading body language in November 1959 when I was 2 years old and I knew that my eyes weren't normal. Quite often (more often than people realize) when a person has his or her arms folded, that person is just very shy and doesn't know what to say to the person that he or she is talking to. Another reason why a person has his or her arms folded is to show the person who is talking to him or her that the person with the folded arms is concentrating intently to the other person. Also, another reason why a person has his or her arms folded is because that person is cold. You're such an idiot for thinking that there's only one reason why a person has his or her arms folded. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    I liked them and there was a lot more they could have done, but they deluded themselves into thinking they were a real band. A lot of revisionism from them now, but if they had just accepted what they were hire to do it would have been a more lucrative career for them.

    • @ronfowlermusic
      @ronfowlermusic Рік тому +4

      they had to play. People were putting them down for not playing. It was a point of pride that they would play at least some of the instruments on their records.

    • @ginettechiverton7113
      @ginettechiverton7113 Рік тому +5

      The Boys did say that the band was created for the Tv show. How could they be deluded, that makes no sense? There have been Many Great Bands over the past few decades, and also a lot of very Forgettable bands. The Monkees were Memerable, Feel good, and Fun loving.

    • @lefkytheshin
      @lefkytheshin Рік тому +3

      Um, they weren't deluded about it - they were quite aware it was a tv band. The thing was, they wanted to play their own music, but were told what to do and play. Real musicians in a pretend band. Good thing is Mike and Pete played their own music afterwards.

    • @billpo
      @billpo Рік тому +2

      Maybe more lucrative, if that’s how you measure success…the fact that people almost 50 yrs later, know and still listen to their music…says it all
