R.I.P. Henry Fambrough. The end of an era. How thankfull I am for UA-cam, so we can watch the best music from the best decade, over and over again. They live on through their music.
I came in honor of Henry Fambrough the last surviving original member of the Spinners. He passed away at 85. Rest in Paradise. He lived a long life and left a legacy of great music. Awesome live performance. They were smooth with those moves too. Music like this is long gone and not being made today. But thank goodness for the memories and archives that harbor their great music. So many great talented male groups from this era. Grew up listening to these tunes played by my parents, aunties and uncles and cousins. Happy to have this music which shaped the fabric of my life.
RIP sweet prince Henry Fambrough Thank you for all those classics... I can just see you all are together at last smiling and singing those classics in Heaven.
Maaaan!!! These brothers are the archetypes of cool. Nobody today has got this degree of swag!!! Can sing dance, move, grove, wear some fine suits..... ........DAMN!!!
Michael Jackson is the best performer of all time though. But these guys are cool too, sadly they were another great soul group that didn't make it big.
50 Years old and just as fresh as it was back then. If that song doesn't get you up on your feet or at least clapping to the beat, then close the coffin. LOL
As an old rock fan who grew up with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Allman Bros., etc. there was nothing like '70's Motown!! Damn, I miss it so much! So many great groups and individuals, so many wonderful memories of beautiful classics.
WHO IN THE WORLD didn't like THIS performance? Man, some real assholes on UA-cam... What a great song, great performance - great everything. WHAT HAPPENED TO SOUL MUSIC? How did things get so effed up? The singing, the dance moves, the clothes - perfect. And the band is KILLING it - especially the drummer and lead guitarist. (Sigh). Would LOVE to be given a good reason to listen to something other than soul oldies but alas...
The Spinners, Philippé Wynne, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, James Edwards, Bobby Smith, G.C. Cameron, ( and other members that were added, as some of the members died, but I noted only the core of the Spinners, and I grew up listening to their style of music. Still one of my favorite groups. I remember when Rubberman Man hit the Airwaves, and Wolfman Jack announced it on the radio, lol, I was going on an errand with Pops, memories! Shot out to Detroit & Philly Sound!
I just snorted an entire mouthful of water when the biggest dude in the group steps - and sings in the highest pitched falsetto!😆😂😂😅🤣 Totally wasn't expecting that!😁
Motown.... does it get any better? What great music. Never get tired of listening to it. Thank you to all of the artists who brought us this incredible music! Bless you!
A lot of Spinners fans think that Phillipe sang lead on all of those 70's hits.. Bobby Smith was the primary vocalist from the very beginning through the 70's. G.C. Cameron (Phillipe's cousin) sang lead on this one when he was a member for one album (1970). G C recomended the Spinners hire his cousin Phillipe. They did and he helped them achieve star status (with Bobby Smith).
+Stephen Silva Always thought the singer on the studio track of this song sounded much different than the one on all the other hits like "could it be I'm falling in in love" and many others that I can't think of right at the moment since I'm drinking vodka...."rubber band man"......"I'll be there...I'll be around" ....when ever you call me, I'll be there...when ever you need me I'll be there....when ever you want me...I'll be there...I'll be arooouuuund....bass riff.......
Yes, Bobby sang lead on. "I'll Be Around, "Could it Be I'm falling in Love", and. "Mighty Love" with Phillipe, and a slew of others. I won't go into now, but often Bobby would start songs, and Phillipe would come in at a later point. On "Could it Be..." he ad libs on chorus. That's why they were called the "twin voices" because they sounded similar. You have to listen close to detect the difference. Phillipe had slightly more range and volume in the upper register, Bobby's style was more laid back. Bobby sings "Games People Play" and many 1960s cuts. I especially like "There's No One Like You" featuring all three lead singers, Henry Fambrough, and both twin voices switching off and overlapping on the bridge. Check it out! Ciao!

+james geiger. How many of you are aware that the G.C. Cameron is the soloist on "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye" from the movie "Cooley High"? Years before Boyz to Men covered it.
OH DEAR LORD..........What can you say, just FANTASTIC!!! Thank GOD Someone had the GOOD SENSE to record this TREASURE. If this doesn't Strum those SOUL CHORDS Inside......your DEAD MAN. Anyways Thank you so much for posting this GEM 🎸💚
WOW! They covered the missing lead (G.C. Cameron) so well. You’d never know. Clever to split the lead line between the sublime replacement Phillipe Wynne and Henry Farnborough.
One of my sweetest childhood memories in a 2:40 video. My mom was very young and LOVED music. This reminds me of being in the car with her and listening to her sing with Mississipi twang. The Spinners induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame featuring this line up is long overdue.
The lead on this song when recorded - written by Stevie Wonder, was C. C. Cameron....not Philippe Wynne - he wasn't in the group then. Cameron sang both the mid and upper registers; here, it's split between Wynne. & Henry Famborough. Cameron went solo after this came out, while Wynne replaced him, and the group gave us a few years of memorable songs.
He gets far too much Spinners credit. He sang lead on only two big hits, ONE OF A KIND LOVE AFFAIR and RUBBERBAND MAN. All their other hits were sung by Bobby Smith, the true superstar of the Spinners.
Sad when Wynne left group to go solo because he wanted to be billed as lead singer. Same reason Ruffin left Temptations. Wanted group to be David Ruffin and the Temptations just like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson had names out front. Surprised Wynne flopped as a solo because he had one of the best voices ever. To drop dead on stage at a small venue with no success after the Spinners still make me sad.
Another great song from Soul Train A blast from the past I just wish we could have soul train and all this good music back again I I love watching you too on my cell phone❤❤❤
I had just given birth to my first daughter when this was so popular, when I hear it, it reminds me of that time. This is real music. By the way, listen to Raphael Sadiq, not sure of the last name, his version is awesome.
Man, the Detroit Spinners, I cannot stop listening to them. They brought so much such classics including my favourite Mighty Love, forty-two years ago.Philippe and Bob, your memories will always be in my soul.
I'm astounded by the enormous amount of effort the wonderful performing groups of this time period put into their songs. Every song had its own distinct choreography. It must have been so much to learn, then get it right every time. I miss the whole era, and the way it seemed like there was no end in sight for the long list of hits. My sincere gratitude goes out to anyone who played a part in the entertainment we see demonstrated here. That includes the dancers on the programs, too. Oh, how I wish we had it to do all over again!
No auto tune no lip singing no audio in the back because they actually remember there on music and with all the dance moves. performing it just like they recorded it. Damn it's a shame they don't do it like this anymore
Wow! This is where the still shots from there break-through album on Atlantic came from.. them in those immaculate 3 piece suits. They didn't even sweat.. Thanks for some good LIVE Soul from the Spinners..
Ive been developing quite a taste for Soul and Motown music the past several years. It just brings up old happy memories of good times and gives you an overall feeling of well being. I would recommend it to all of the younger generations. You just might catch the bug.
Love, love, LOVE the Spinners! I was curious to see how they'd cover this tune w/o GC Cameron but they handled it just fine. I think GC's performance of It's A Shane is one of the greatest vocal recordings _ever,_ but Wynne and Fambrough held it down! Yes!!!
I had the privilege of sitting at the front row at Disneyland 40 years ago at grad night to witness their greatness. What an awesome night that was. Loved them then and still do.
I saw that someone did give just due on this feed!! Yes GC Cameron was the original and yes Phillipe is his cousin that sang on this track, but let it be known tha GC could sing both parts and to date still does in honor of entire Spinners Family! Yes, he did sing both parts. Although Phillipe had a great falsetto too, GC's style is rougher, and grittier, on "this" song. I'll have to mention "Cooley High's 'It's So Hard..."

Yes! I agree - it's called showmanship.
@Marina A.... so well said!
So true!

what about Leon Bridges?
R.I.P. Henry Fambrough. The end of an era. How thankfull I am for UA-cam, so we can watch the best music from the best decade, over and over again. They live on through their music.
I've never heard Henry sing falsetto before I thought he only sang baritone for the group but anyway he did a great job

Great tribute ❤
RIP To all of the original Spinners.
Yes to all of them
Henry Fambrough 🌹 RIP 🙏🏼 💗🎼🎙🎸 and I was so honored to have seen the Spinners with my parents in 1980 concert in Sacramento. Thanks for the memories.
RIP sweet prince Henry Fambrough Thank you for all those classics... I can just see you all are together at last smiling and singing those classics in Heaven.
This is real performance, not lip-synch! Awesome!

Are you sure the Spinners didn’t make it big. They were very popular and had a long career and loads of hits.
Another miss hit of superstars by the machine of motown! Spinner class by themselves one of the big Detroit greatest.
LOVED THIS GROUP! Rest in greatness, Henry Fambrough ❤
Way too fast - I'm out of breath just watching them! But they wipe the floor with many of today's artists with this live performance - superb.
Its a shame, acts will always speed it up a bit when live, but if our classical people did the same there would be uproar.
Sped up I think bc of copyright lol
😂😂😂
@@foodsex8891 I think they just sang it sped up. Because their pitches are the same
They are dancing and the harmony is still on point.
50 Years old and just as fresh as it was back then.
If that song doesn't get you up on your feet or at least clapping to the beat, then close the coffin. LOL
It's incredible, so talented. What a shame that era is gone, but thankfully, we can still watch on UA-cam
Tears of gratitude! The charisma, the style, the steps, the showmanship, the vocals, the arrangement, all on point.
As an old rock fan who grew up with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Allman Bros., etc. there was nothing like '70's Motown!! Damn, I miss it so much! So many great groups and individuals, so many wonderful memories of beautiful classics.
The one thing that today's so-called R&B acts don't have is class!
Enter: Bruno Mars
This isn't R&B boomer, it's soul
@Ben Benjamin Mars, not that great. Besides he is one person. The Spinners was a group 5 dudes not a good coparasion .Just saying 😊

I love the Spinners! They have been a huge musical inspiration to me for what seems like forever.
It's a shame we have to go so far back in time to hear good music!!!
The Spinners, Philippé Wynne, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, James Edwards, Bobby Smith, G.C. One of the most loved soul band.
Can't get enough of this song ... and that says it all.
it's a shame ..... the state of music today. unravelled in the 80s and downhill ever since.
