Claire is THE Voice of Steps
I do agree that Clare has the most capable voice but I really think that Faye has the best control over her voice. When singing live Faye rarely falters, clare has the power but sounds like she needs some help supporting that when singing live.
Definitely agree with the order. Although I think Claire's voice is better than the other four combined! In some ways she's always been too good for Steps vocally, and I think that's where a lot of the tensions of the past originate
I felt bad for Clare watching their documentary about their reunion… like, a person shouldn’t have to say “I’m the best” but that’s essentially what was going on. They had other dramas too, like H just being H… lol

I’ve always felt the group’s success rested on Claire.
She has anchored the group, allowing it to create its own niche. Something unique.
I think she’s made a conscious decision to pull back which allows Lisa and Faye to shine.
The continued preference for H over Lee, especially in the early days, was completely unfair.
Lee can sing. His voice has good tone and a smooth delivery. A real crooner 😜
Lisa’s voice has developed really well.
They have matured as a band brilliantly.

Even as a Faye stan I have to admit Claire is the voice of the group, having got the most solos. That being said Faye is just as amazing, her voice has definitely matured, and those two clearly stand out as the best singers as they sing the most. They can both sing just about everything, with both of them having done theatre (Faye especially) and Claire doing Popstar to Operastar.
Admittedly their two most recent albums make it more fair by giving the boys and Lisa a lot more than they used to get. This I would say is because the solos were picked for them with obvious favouritism so it isn't for example Claire's fault she constantly got leads. Add the fact that H was dating their manager so again obvious bias. Nowadays I *believe* the group themselves are in control so that makes it a lot fairer.
I would say H is the better of the two male singers, again because he got more and Lee definitely deserves to get more - his voice is underrated. And while I hate to put Lisa at the bottom (nothing against her) she definitely sounds weaker when singing live, though her performance on the Royal Variety when they did Something In Your Eyes really surprised me, she absolutely smashed it! :D I do agree with Georgina as coming into her own recently.
I love steps. They are a package deal. They sound lovely singing together.
I AGREE.. CLAIRE IS THE BACKBONE IF THIS GROUP..dont get me wrong, i love all of them but Claire is just THAT talented, skilled and blessed with those vocals.. Stream their album... And pre order What The Future Holds volume 2 album

She released a solo album in February 2019 ‘my wildest dreams’. It’s pretty good
You can have the best voice in the world, but unless you make songs that make people wanna buy/stream 'em, including good promotion (which is harder these days), then you won't get very far.
It’s the same with Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls. She might of had a #1 single with “Don’t Hold Your Breath” but as a soloist her career wasn’t as successful as PCD. It just varies really
With no offence intended to the rest of Steps, all of whom I absolutely adore, your choices were spot on as always. I think we all knew it was going to be Faye and Claire in top positions. It's always been Faye first verse, Claire second verse and Lisa "Speak"...Lisa always seem to have that little part in the bridge that was kind of spoken sung... In recent years they've changed that a lot Thank God they have!!!
Claire is defo the best singer she has a brilliant voice and super underrated. But I love the steps sound when they all sing together.

Lee has a better, more pleasant tone than H, but his vocal dexterity is easily the weakest of the group. He is capable of pulling off live performances, but still isn't really up to par with the ease that the other members can.

Clara's totally has a lot of shining parts on the new album,Not sure if you've listened to the other songs other than the single releases...on the song "One Touch" She really has a strong prominent sound, and on "Come and Dance With Me" She has a huge belt towards the end of the bridge
Personally i love Lees voice over H any day. Lee is more sexy and cool vocally. H sounds so forced to me and he does this...eugh noise at the end of most of his lines/words.
Claire is the huge voice but i love all the girls voices equally.

The cat is stealing the show today :) I always liked Faye and knew she was talented but there was never any doubt Claire was and is definitely the top voice. I still remember her on that show "Pop Star to Opera Star" or whatever the name of it was when she did the "Queen of the Night" aria and I was blown away. It wasn't necessarily something she'd probably be able to sustain through an entire performance of the opera, but from what she sang it was brilliant. It makes me want to take more classical voice lessons and extend my own range! Just wonderful! Thanks for making these great videos! Loved your Finnish Eurovision one this year!

totally agree with your ranking. i had the same lineup. i know with this latest incarnation of steps that lee in particular is getting more lines to sing and at times you can heat him in the background giving everyone an equal chance to shine.

Claire is the strongest, then Faye - she has a great tone, then there’s a significant gap and then the other three are fairly interchangeable for me ✌🏻
Yes agreed although each voice brings a unique quality so in part it's about how they all sound together IMO. For whatever reason, I LOVE Lisa's voice--she seems slightly less trained that the other two women...and when she belts (usually in a chorus refrain) it's always outstanding.

Faye is very consistent and I would rank her 1. Claire is Great but a one trick pony. She would be 2. Lisa 3, lee 4 and H 5. H needs to open his jaw a bit more.

I think with Lee we don't hear enough of him, he only sings 1 or 2 lines and thats not often. When he covered Lisa on Graham Norton recently, he was good I thought.
Their first single is still the one where Lee has the biggest part.

H has a much better vibrato than Lee. Lee is limited and often sounds like a dad at karaoke. Claire is the best, by far. That high belt with the American twang is so recognizable - since Tragedy, steps has been Claire’s show.

I don’t need to even mess about with this question. Haha. I mean, if the question is ‘who has the strongest voice?’…we know the answer. Clare is such a powerhouse. She can do all-star ‘diva’ vocals (e.g., Whitney Houston), rock, Broadway, and probably opera, though I haven’t heard it!
But that being said, Faye isn’t half-bad! She has the most lines in songs, along with Clare. Plus, the boys can sing, Lisa has her moments! But if Clare is the voice of Steps, Lisa and H are the “soul” of the group, and Lee and Faye are the heart of the group, as they’re so sweet natured and always smiling. ❤️

The only placement I was less sure of was third and fourth. I think it's arguable either way.
Lisa started out as more of a dancer than singer, but I think that she's perhaps had a bit more training.
Faye has a lot of character and support and seems more comfortable in performing (at least to me she does). While Claire has a stronger voice, I think that she sometimes has wobbles in her confidence.
my order is Claire, Faye (so elegant), Lee (i dont believe he has a proper chance to really shine with his vocal talents), H and then Lisa.
I prefer steps this way where they all get a verses to sing. In the old days it was all about the girls (mainly Claire) and when H got the leads instead of Lee it was cause he was sleeping with the producer(or whom ever it was) and i cringe every time i hear H sing Heartbeat, where as i believe Lee should of sang it.
Every since 5,6,7,8, came out in Australia i absolutely fell in love with Steps and are my no.1 band of all time. My sadness about this though is im never gonna get to see em live😭😭😭😭😭😭
I don't think it's really fair to judge Lee's voice. People say he doesn't have range, but I just don't think we have enough sample to know with his one to two lines he gets in every one out of every 25 songs. Because Claire and Faye are favored vocalists, the songs tend to be in keys that support them, rather than the rest of the band. Lisa is another interesting one because it always sound like they layer one or two of her own vocals on top of each other to produce a quality sound. Yet when the songs are in a higher key, H and Lisa really shine.

Agreed - that WILL be interesting considering they haven't recorded since the early 2000s, only perform as a duo now (Bradley and Tina) and Jo (along with becoming quite controversial) has definitely got weaker in voice despite being their lead singer.

If I analyzed STEPS with K-pop role, then Claire will be main vocalist, Faye will be Lead vocal and Visual, Lisa will be lead vocal, Lee will be Visual and lead dancer, and H will be main dancer.
Vocally though, I will place Lee above H because I really like his tone.

Has anyone noticed that when H sings live he does so through gritted teeth (literally!). It’s as though his jaw is locked into place and there is no flexibility or fluidity in his notes? He sounds like his whole mouth and jaw are very tense. I really expected this video to analyse their voices more, rather than simply placing them in order. Thoughts on H’s voice? 😀

They're a fantastic british pop group from late 90s early 00s. They've recently come back and are on their 2nd come back album. They're basically the UK ABBA but more fun and dancy. I recommend you have a listen on spotify or watch their videos on youtube.
