Thank you so much, I just spent so much money on the audio interface and the studio monitors, and I was freaking out when I saw all of those holes and weird-named cables. Thank you again.
If this video didn't exist, I would have to get up and ask my roommate. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but I just made myself some tea and sat down.
I’ve been kicking myself for the last 2 days trying to connect my gear. You sir are a lifesaver. Thank you for the detailed video. Dumbasses like myself really appreciate you taking the time to help us out.
Thank you matthew! I'm a guitar beginner from Taiwan who just looking for some information about connecting interfaces, then I found this video. Thanks a lot😊😊
reply asap so if i buy me some rokit 10s or 8 and a interface thats it i can play my music and plug it into my gaming moniter for forza and stuff in futer please tell me i dont need any pc or laptop
Thanks Matthew, exactly the info I was looking for and explained in terms that even a non-techie like myself can get. Very useful emphasis on balanced, unbalanced. Great video.
Great video, Jan 14 2021 update, I am just now getting to this stage with my home studio setup so I needed to review this excellent video tutorial again.
@MatthewStratton thanks for the video! I'm also new to this digital setup so I have a beginner question..Hopefully you can answer. I'm going to use a guitar modeler ( the ampero stomp) which is also an audio interface. With this setup and connection, will I be able to hear a backing track being played through UA-cam and simultaneously play my guitar through my modeler software and DAW?
It’s the NEVER GIVE UP sign in the back for me 😩 I quit after I lost my entire studio in 2008, but randomly out of nowhere I said “YOU KNOW WHAT, FCKDAT” !!! Thanks for being here 🙏🏽🥺❤
Hello! The video was really helpful, but is it possible to make a guide on how to switch between using monitors and headphones (basically choosing where audio is played out from).
I love my Focusrite it's awesome :) Luckily it's not too hard to set up monitors - I did them without tutorials but highly recommend people get them - loving my new set up.
Thank you, Matthew. I may just be confused and uneducated on MIDI controlled audio devices that can be used with two balanced studio monitors, but never the less, I've had my KRKS for over 6 months (Connected with unbalanced cables) and up until now, I could not figure out how to set both up with balanced cables. Currently using Scarlett Solo which only allows one balanced connection. (Upgrading to Scarlett 2i2 right now on amazon.) (PS. you should make an affiliate link!) Again, Thank you man. I hope your channel continues to grow and I wish you the best of in life.
Scarlett Solo has 2 balanced outputs, which are just like shown on the video. However, it's important to remember that TRS 1/4" cables carry stereo signal. You can output a mono signal to each of the two speakers in stereo from a single TRS out if you use a Y-splitter cable, if you ever have the need.
I'm connecting a PreSonus Studio 26 to some Eris 3.5 studio monitor speakers. Looks like I need some Hosa balanced TRS audio cables. This video helped me make my shopping list. Thank you!
Dude you seem a very nice guy and I appreciate your help cuz you know more about home studio stuff than I do despite me being already middle aged I'm from the old guard of musicians when we did not have Home Studios but are you so "weak" that you need a "Never Give Up" sign on your door? Take it off and put a "Obstacles Are Made to Be Overcome" sign instead. Cheerio. Mike.
I have another poster that says "Dreams don't work unless you do". Never give up can mean multiple things, but the main meaning is Never Give Up on your passion (in this case making music).
@@MatthewStratton Never give up can mean never give u on your dreams. Its a positive not a negative. And never give up is the same as your Obstacles Are Made to Be Overcome.
Thank you so much for that video, I completely forgot I’d bought the cables to connect the speakers to my audio interface, I couldn’t work out why I wasn’t getting any sound. School boy error.
Thank you so much man, this video was really helpful to help me know what to get and how to set up. you were very clear on what to do and i never felt like you were just waffling
@Anonymous Stew should i buy trs balanced 6.35mm to trs 6.5 balanced ,,,,becuz i got presonus eris 3.5 and audio inter face...should i buy cables will it improve my quality
What is the difference between balanced or unbalanced? Balanced audio uses three conductors to carry the audio signal. Two of the conductors carry negative and positive signals (audio is an AC signal), and the third is used for grounding. With an unbalanced signal, there are only two conductors. One carries positive, the carries negative and is also used for ground. The advantage of a balanced signal is that because the ground is seperate from the negative conductor, there is less chance that radio frequency interferance will get into the audio signal. Generally, +4 db, balanced signal are the way to go for long cable runs. The high gain and isolated ground make for a cleaner, noise-free signal. If cable runs are shorter, there should be no problem with RF interferance or noise on unbalanced, -10 db signals. If you have RF problems in your studio, you probably have some kind of ground fault, and it's a good idea to have it checked out by an electrician. Typical studios have both +4 and -10 db gear, so the important thing there is to make sure gain stages match all the way through the signal chain. The biggest cause of noise and distortion in audio is mismatched gain.
alright this is what ive been looking for. an explanation that the audio interface can output to a PA system from the computer. all these youtube videos only talk about audio interfaces connecting INTO the computer (for recording).
Don't get me wrong, you answered my questions, but I might be too smart for these tutorials I feel like this could've been explained adequately in 2-3 sentences.
Thanks for videos Matthew they are simple , concise and easy to follow. Just setting up my home studio and your instructions have been just what I need. 👍
Hey Mathew you are awesome man, thanks for making this video as I was needing help on what to buy and how to connect my MK3 to some monitors and the device to use. Your video rocks ! from Los Angeles, Thanks buddy!
Hey I answered one of my concerns watching this, and now one more thing I'd like to understand and fix is: I like to play guitar over music, and now that I have properly connected my Kanto Tuk monitors to the UA Volt 1, my PC music doesn't sound quite the same. If I flick off the interface and go back to the other optical input I use for PC use my music sounds perfect. The guitar and effects sound fine in both cases... So there's some type of processing or something going on I reckon
I have Audioengine a5's that I'm using. The pair of RCA's on the back say LINE OUT as do the RCA pair on the back of my Scarlett Solo 1st gen. interface. Two pair of outs. Of course, I'm getting no sound. That kind of sucks for modern powered speakers. Do you have a solution? Sorry, but I've looked everywhere. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Great explanation of balanced vs unbalanced - thanks!. I have a semi-related question: I have a Scarlett Solo and use it to connect my guitar to my PC for use with Amplitube 4. I am getting tired of having to use headphones while playing (I rarely record - I just like to play using the amp variety and options in Amplitube). I would like to know if I can use studio monitors while playing (BTW - I do not play loud - usually.... ;). Can I use monitors (instead of headphones) and if so, are there any you recommend (under $300 for the pair)? Thanks!
Yes, you can. It's how i have been playing bass. Though idk of a good sub 300$ pair, as it'a hard to find such things. I guess any monitor with a 5 or 6 inch sub would work great with eletric guitar.
Thank you for this. I assumed my 2i2 would work this easily, but I was not sure. I am getting the feeling the Rockit 4's are not as good and I need the 5's.
