JK is just an all around good German dude. isn’t he? Efficient and precise when explaining things. One of the true go to professors of audio at You Tube University. Thanks Julian!
Agreed. He's actually a great representation in human form of what quality German Engineering looks & acts like; Simple yet thorough/quality, precise & ACCURATE...all while keeping ego out of the equation. Results speak for themselves. Taught me & no doubt many more A LOT without coloring or obstructing the process with any & all of the ultra-annoying, way too common wasteful fluff & opinion UA-cam is SO over-loaded with. LOL Just stating as I see and have experienced it watching & learning from his videos. Quite gratefully at that I will add:)
Great, simple yet thorough & precise ACCURATE info... as I've grown to learn is what Julian provides in every one of his videos. He's become my go-to UA-cam Pro-Audio Home Studio teacher/professor. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us, Julian! Sincerely.
I got a couple of speakers, and I had these questions... I was so relieved to see that you made a video about this and it did not disappoint! All clear now.
Extremely useful - as always. It's so nice you take the time to explain the topics in detail and don't gloss over basics. I've worked with music (as a hobbyist) for 20 years and I find that there are so many basics that you never take the time to set up correctly. I found that my right monitor had different EQ and volume setting and the tip about adjusting the volume was a game changer. Now most of the amplification comes from my audio interface, and not the speakers - which has audibly reduced the noise. So good!
So great full for this well done tutorial. You're the perfect german engineering: precise, simple and reliable. Thanks to you i was able to make mines works. No frustrations, just results. Greatings from Paris of your newest Brazilian fan ;)
Using Bias FX 2 and everything sounded like garbage. At wit's end and decided to turn to UA-cam for help. I come across this and he's using the same Interface and same exact monitors. What are the odds? now everything sounds great :) thank you for sharing :)
Julian you are one of the only fully objective channels on youtube Superb work, keep it up, but two suggestions; 01. A frequency response graph of the interfaces 02. An phase canceled, original input audio vs preamps input, to see if the system does change the audio in other ways other than frequamcy and resonance.
OMG SOOO helpful, thank you! Just invested in some beautiful Focal Solo6 BE's, SO stoked to hook these up and get listening! Thanks again, watching from Toronto.
I have a question. How do i switch between listening through my studio monitors to my speakers. Is there a way i can do this with out turning the volume down on my speaks or unplugging them from interface
What about the volume on your OS (windows), DAW and software (spotify/youtube)? If your DAC is maxed is it safe to increase to software volumes? Or should the software volumes be set to 100% from the start and then to only control volume knobs from your gear, DAC + amp or speaker? Also can you make a video on how volume affects watt used by the amp? e.g. if I have a 1000watt amp with a volume knob and set it to 1% volume will it use 10watts? and if I turn up the PC audio from 50% to 100% will it now use 20watts as the DBs went up by e.g. +3.
I’ve noticed the volume from my actual computer will manipulate the overall output going to the interface and then to the monitors. What should i set the volume from the computer? Will this make a difference?
Hi Julian! Thanks for your hands-on tutorial! After I tried your setings I am still facing significant mike bleeding - since my podcast set up is always on the go, in various places with my interviewee sitting just 1,5 meters away from me. Do you have tips on how to kill the mike bleed effectively in post-production without experiencing cut-off sentences due to lower volumes there? Thanks a lot!
I just ordered TS Cordial cables before seeing your video. I have Behringer UMC202HD with balanced outputs and Yamaha HS4 monitors with balanced inputs. Should I order TRS cables or running unbalanced, if no noise it's fine? Right ? 😬
Hi. Is there anyway to get RCA output to a box of sorts which will convert the RCA signal to a balanced XLR input? Can't seem to find any info about it. Thanks.
Quick question, for the Scarlett solo, I know it only has one adjustment knob, but let’s say I only wanna hear the sound only coming from the headphones instead of the studio monitors, would that mean I would have to disconnect them or is there another way ? I know the 2i2 is good for something like this but I wanted to make sure if it was still possible for the solo as well, thank you and have a good day!
Very nice video and very well explained. I just bought a pair of krk monitors, do i need an interface or i can ise a normal dac like the ifi zen2? I don't use microfons or other instruments. I wil really appreciate your advice.
We have a mixer for all our instruments. The mixer out cable goes to each of the powered monitor speakers. My problem is: the back of the powered monitor uses an XLR output (male i think) that i would like to connect to the A/D input on my Montage synthesizer. I tried using a standard mic cable, connecting the male end to the back of the monitor's out jack (XLR) but my keyboard only takes 1/4 inch as input to the A/D input. I used a dongle/converter to convert the XLR female end of the mic cable to a 1/4 inch jack and plugged that input the mono port on the A/D input for my synth. I turned on the A/D button on my Montage synth and raised the gain. I then connected my headphones to my synth via 1/4 inch jack. My purpose was to better hear the mix coming out of the monitor in my headphones by chaining the output of the powered monitor to my keyboard so I could better adjust the mix volume in my headphones so I could hear my vocals more clearly in the overall mix. No sound from the monitor can be heard (but I can hear myself playing the keyboard). Do I need to buy a dedicated XLR (male) to balanced 1/4 inch cable? Perhaps my cabling isn't right? Thoughts? Thanks.

Awesome video. The intricate details about the balanced and unbalanced cables is noteworthy. 👍👍
Invaluable information about the TS/TRS cabling and balanced/unbalanced. Great concise video Julian

Now this is one of my favorite channel about audio things, thanks dude.
Re-upload because of an error in the previous version.
It would be nice one in which you explain the different EQ settings on the back of monitors and how to adjust them. Great video Julian!
Thank you for the correction Julian.
@@JoeJacksonJr Thank you for pointing it out :)
Please upload how to record drum thankyou
You didnt say if you need to turn off the monitors before plug the cables ?
Incredible! That video vanished all my doubts about interface to monitors conection.

Thank you thank you thank you. And I thought this would teach me nothing. I was using unbalanced trs to xlr and I didn’t know it! No more hums I hope!
great man...was looking for some video like this. Thanks buddy.
Julian... I'm fascinated by your choice of studio monitors, those KEF's in particular. Can you expand on your preference for them?
Brilliant and factual video. Thank you for sharing with us.
This was very helpful, great job!
Very well explained. 👍👍
Is there a brand of balanced TRS cables that you recommend?
Can I plug headphone output to my Harman Kardon 2.1 computer speakers?
Thanks Julian! Great Video!
I have a question. How do i switch between listening through my studio monitors to my speakers. Is there a way i can do this with out turning the volume down on my speaks or unplugging them from interface

I have these same JBL MONITORS! I love ❤️ my JBL’S
Thanks for your guide. It seems like a very basic stuff, but it's extremely usefull if you buy your 1st pair of monitor's like me :)
You Sir, are a professional.
Enjoy much my music with a balance interface you have said. Thanks to you, watching from ROMA with AMOR!

Hello Julian,
Can you please do a review of a Focusrite Clarett USB interface? I'd like to hear your opinion on it
Danke schön, Julian! You the man!!
Fantastic Guidline, thank you very much !
This was very helpful, thank you :)
Thanks
Hi JK, what are those monitors on your desk?
Hell yea.. Liked. Subbed. Everything in one video. What else can I ask for.
love this thank you
Thank you! very helpful video.
Is 6,3mm a quarter inch (1/4)?
Yes :)
What are those monitors in the background with the metal driver?
Great vid, any chance you could let me know what monitor stands are in the video please?
I’ve noticed the volume from my actual computer will manipulate the overall output going to the interface and then to the monitors. What should i set the volume from the computer? Will this make a difference?
on me I know exactly what you mean doin the same thing to me pissin me off
if you use a interface for controlling the volume anyway, then you can keep the Windows sound on 100% and only regulate with the interface
This helped so much , thank you !!
Does the gain level on these two volume controls change the sound? More or less compressed?
Really helpful ❤️❤️
I'm confused found cables on amazon they 2 1/4 male plugs to one 3.5 stereo male . They all say trs balanced but don't have the extra ring
super helpful and well explained thank you JK

Hello! Loving your informative videos! when will you be doing the interface headphone comparison? Thank you so much. Hope you are doing well and safe

Are there audio interfaces that let you set up a 7.1 surround sound? You have any video on that?
Hi. Is there anyway to get RCA output to a box of sorts which will convert the RCA signal to a balanced XLR input? Can't seem to find any info about it. Thanks.
Hi, can you tell us which XLR 2 TRS you are using? Do I need to look at expensive brands? Thanks in advance
Should ground pin of XLR be soldered to body of connector or not?

Great info. Thank you.
What if your speakers have no volume? Is a DAC needed, or is the the Scarlett 8i6 DAC?
is it possible to connect a balanced converter into rca inputs?

Very helpful, thank you a lot for the Deutsche Qualität
Very basic, very useful.
So is there any risks using a TS jack from a Behringer UMC22 to an RCA speaker? Manual does not seem to specify that
So trs and xlr are both good if they are balanced? there is no difference in sound quality or hiss/hum?
are these the right cables?
Literally thank you
Thanks for the help man!
