just got some krk RP7 G4 from you, sound amazing thanks folks not a wink of background hiss bright and beautiful with some real eq-ability
tannoys all the way! the clarity and sound stage is amazing!
Tannoy Gold 7! 🥳🥳🥳 best monitor in the video!
I like that you give all the information about the monitors so People can choose whats best for them, but at the end I think you should said your opinion which would you choose and why for people that beggining in music industry
As a general rule it's worth getting the most expensive speakers you can afford, with a broad (low) and fairly flat frequency response, ensuring you retain funds to perform some basic room treatment (or the frequency response/imaging will be heavily compromised) and raise the speakers so they're not sat on your desk. Do not buy monitors without also buying room treatment, it's like buying a car but not buying tyres! You can do great work with basically any speaker _that you know back to front_ - the key being you understand all the limitations of your setup and know how to work around them.
For video editing/mixing and general purpose use (music, films) I have a pair of Yamaha HS8s which are very detailed in the mid and high end and complement the lack of low frequencies with a JBL 10'' subwoofer. I also have a pair of HS5s in another room and the JBLs 305 at my home. I believe the best setup for me is the HS8s with the subwoofer, although they are very bulky
Got a pair of Gold 8s, been fine so far!
It would have been interesting if you'd spoken about the differences between pricing and what component diffs there are. Thanks :)
Another thing I want to add to the monitoring debate is that, having a good room is never gonna be a bad thing. But I do think it is not the be all n end all. Personally, I believe two things to be even more important. The first require a little time and eventually familiarity. Basically being family with the response of your chosen monitors- and I totally understand that you need to be able to spend a fair bit of time with them to get to this point. Second. Referencing. You see, if you have prereleased tracks that will obviously be already mastered, yu can play those tracks in any environment and they should still sound polished. Now if you can mimic ur reference tracks sound profile and/or frequency response in ur mix environment, then yu should be onto a decent mix or at least a good starting point or foundation. Music is a subjective thing and too many great songs/tracks have been recorded, mixed in some random setups with not much in the way of acoustic treatment or optimisation. Also, if yu have large monitors, I’d recommend picking up something smaller to augment the larger playback setup. My reasoning for this would be that you can use the large set up more for vibe and cranking up the volume, whilst yu use the small playback system for actual mixing and fine tuning- being careful not to crank them too much, so as not to couple to all the random surfaces in ur mix room. And- more importantly- limit unwanted reflections. Basically minimising those unwanted effects.
But like I said, a nicely setup and treated mix room is never gonna be a bad thing. But a genuinely believe yu can get a killer mix regardless. 🤷🏾♂️🙏🏾🔈🔈🔈
Theres this key 2 buttons down from backspace. You should try and use it sometime
I use Tannoy reveal 802 monitors as desktop speakers. They're great. Made me rethink my main setup.
I got a pair of these when my Mackie MR8s ended up with dead capacitors (after trying to save them). Being used to a low-mid tier 8" monitors they are fantastic for the price, and I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone looking.
When my wife and I moved house, I wanted an upgrade for the new studio space so ended up going for some Focal Alpha Evo Twin for my production area. As much as I have lost some lower bass (65Hz vs 40ish) they really are awesome. The clarity and accuracy in the mids and tops has helped me highlight more detail in those regions. For producing D&B, it's surprising how helpful cleaning up the low-mids have been.
As for my Reveals? Thhey're used as dedicated DJ monitors, and the 82 drivers makes mixing D&B a lot of fun!
I have hs5 and Adma's I think the quality construction of the yamaha is very good, the sound of the T7V's have more low end, really happy with both I use them to get more perspective of the mix
do you recommend hs5 for listening to music and watching movies?
not shocked at all the tannoy love i swear i felt to get them just to say tannoy! when im doing a set and now all these good comments about em i might cop the 8s
Don't waste your time fam I ran them back and got the Adams...the golds are not flat and not good for mixing
Ive just purchased some vintage Yamaha MSP-10's. Best $400 dollar's ive ever spent in life. I've had most of those speakers except for the Tannoys and i must say, nothing right now can match those vintage Yamaha's. You probably have to get into the $1300 to $2000 range to compete respectfully. The Hs series Yamaha's are good but not even close to the MSP series.
Fluid Audio Image 2...very very impressive.
I was super impressed with the tannoys and do not regret buying them. They need some time to break in so give them a couple of days before judging them
There seems to be no scientific data at all on the subject of speaker break-in to confirm it really exists. And no, opinions simply don't count.
what would be the best option ? i see a 130 difference on amazon with 3 yr warranty on the classic 5s is 295$ and on zzounds the rokit 5 g4s are 426$ w 3 years so a 130 difference i do want the flat response for better mixing but can tweak it with the screen and put flat in general these have been my dream monitors would love the input from anyone thanks
Anyone tried the subzero 8’s?
Might try them.
Imo, you cant go wrong with any monitor speaker. Just learn it and how the music has to sound on it and there you go. Room treatment is a plus.
Getting the t7v myself. Price/performance is a excellent product. Or maybe I will treat myself to a pair of a7v 😂
Well just treat your room and use a measurement mic and a DSP to straighten out the last of the kinks and you can get those speakers to sound almost exactly the same. Just make sure you have enough bass extension since some of those doesn't play quite low enough imo :)
NICE
Focals FTW for me
What would you say about Fluid audio fx80´s? I am kinda deciding between those and Tannoy´s Gold 8, still havent decided..
Bought myself some Rokit RP8 G4s today. Bummer they werent featured in this video.
All entry level speakers really, when you hear good speakers like focal you realize why they're so expensive , that being said you can produce good mixes on these you have to reference on many other sources anyway
I'm just for You tube music gaming No studio but love my Adam audio T5V ( DON'T NEED TO ANNOY THE STREET ) With M-AUDIO 192/4
I miss the actual comparison. Which speaker is best overall, best value etc.
Please review behringer trueth 4.5 bt
I would say be careful with the KRK Rokits you see the yellow cones in big studio, but they are typically NOT the Rokits series speakers. The Rokits boost the low end response which a lot of listeners like, but for mixing can really screw you up. You mix on those hyped bass Rokits then take you mix somewhere else to listen to it you start wondering where the bass went. So if you mix on the Rokits you have factor in the low end your hearing isn't what things will sound like in the real world.
The Yamahas HS series speakers I've had the HS5 and they just collect dust now. The HS7 amd HS8 sound excellent but the HS5's have are a really nasty midrange bump and can get very tiresome to listen to. Do yourself a favor and buy the HS7 or HS8 instead, if fact you want bass get the HS8 I like the low end on those.
Adam T7V That is what I am currently using and I like the sound and stereo imaging very much. That ribbon tweeter gives you very natural sounding highs and easy on the ears. I can listen to the Adam's all day long without getting ear fatigue.
Any monitors you get will color the sound some so you have to learn what your listening on so you can understand what your hearing in relation to the typical speakers, earbuds, or headphone your will be heard on.
Rather hard to pick five -- out of at least 450 studio monitor models being peddled today. Also, Tannoy is now a Behringer-owned company. For better or worse.
Thanks Frank - yes these are all two way near-fields. Larger three-way speakers would be a topic for another day!
The cheapest option is actually Kali IN-5. They sell pretty well nowadays.
No sound files ?
What about Yamaha hs-8?
Tannoys look insane. I have had my KRK RP6 G3 now for over 9,5 years, what would be a nice upgrade?
im stuck in the same situation and my rp6 works fine after all these years.. so its tricky choice to either go with a new brand for a different sound or just get the g4's and kinda knowing what you'll get
I have the Tannoy Gold 8s. I love them they are amazing for they price and I’ve never heard a bad thing about them, but they lack a bit of bass so I recommend a subwoofer, KRK s10.4 will do great.
@@filip.herman REL HT1003 sub with my Gold 8s, matched with the Tannoy gold 15, I have been a studio mechanic for 15+ years, hard to go back to non concentric, I use ELAC 6.2 debut for my surrounds and a second sub ELAC 3010.
You forgot to mention about amplification, what kind of amplification the speakers use? A/B or D amplification? Which one has toroidal transformer? about internal construction and quality components, which one are better and more solid, heavy speaker? Thanks
D amplification sounds bad. I try not to judge things, but it really is bad. Always go for Type A or type AB.
Sorry for the delay! Discussing the internal construction of the speakers is beyond the scope of the video and very hard to objectively differentiate as there is much more to the success of a speaker design than any one single component. It's important to consider the output of a speaker holistically, the amplifier type is not the whole story. Example - the Adam T7V's use Class D amplifiers, yet Adam are the only brand in this list who post extensive charts and specs of the response of the speakers - and we'd invite anyone to go read independent reviews of them, as they're incredibly well reviewed.
Dual concentric -- is the same as a coaxial design. Right?
Two ways to say the same thing, I think Tannoy took the rights for Dual Concentric so everybody else had to call it something else
sorry for my stupid question : can Keyboard Amplifiers be used instead of studio monitors ? what would be the issues ?
They absolutely can, however a Keyboard Amplifier is likely not to have the same accuracy of a studio monitor - in favour of their form factor (can be placed on the floor) and volume. And also a keyboard amplifier is less likely to give you true stereo.
@@Gear4musicSynthsTech Thanks a lot for your answer. The reason is that i got this Amp before starting to use an audio interface / DAW
Good stuff. I think it's about time I stop making stuff using only headphones.
Always good to check mixes on headphones, but it's definitely important to not exclusively mix on them if you can help it! There's some excellent tools to simulate speakers in headphones, but yes we'd certainly recommend getting a decent pair of speakers and they don't need to cost the Earth. Do ensure you consider some acoustic treatment however - thanks!
@@Gear4musicSynthsTech What tools would you recommend to emulate the speakers through headphones, thanks
I'd buy the Tannoy's because they look the best.
THEY SOUND BETTER ALSO
I use the Mackie HR824mkii. So far they have been amazing! Well worth the money.
its an exception that it sells at very low price
both are great no real difference except tunings
14:27 Meanwhile the Tresor club n Berlin being at 105 dB the whole night (obviously club familiar people wear earbuds)
True. Some custom-fitted ear plugs are one of the best investments you can make to protect your hearing! Also pro tip for those who don't know: Put them in 15 minutes before you get to the club and it doesn't feel like things are 'quiet' when you get in, as your ears acclimatise to the reduced sound.
Kali LP6 v2 is really alone in its class. Too bad you didnt cover
Hs7 or Krk for me
If you listen to the Tannoys you'll find them quite bassy
U said 5 of the most popular, where is the presonus in the top 5?
is it worth it to pay the extra for the Yamaha over the KRK?
Helppp! My HS5 as making a very high pitched sound as soon as I turn them on and I've tried everything. It does that even when it's not plugged to the interface or if absolutely nothing is on next to it (my setup is just the monitors and a scarlet 18i8 and it does that even when everything is off, the internet modem is far away as well as other electronics), when it is just simply plugged with the power cable. I've tried changing plugs but yeah it makes this noise as soon as I turn it on, just with the power cable plugged into it. What could that be??
I had that same noise issue with my HS5 and this fixed it. " Furman PST-8 8 Outlet Power Station". Don't know if it's exactly the same issue but Worth a look.
As absurd as it may sound: wrap it in Tinfoil
I had the same issue i changed my cables to gold shielded cables and it took all of the noises away.
Sounds like an RF problem, check your earthing, do both speakers do it? Could also be a shielding problem with the signal cables, if the earthing on the gear your sending the signal from has an earthing issue then it turns the signal cables into a pair of antennas
My friend had an old set of Tannoy dual concentric speakers (passive driven) which blew me away with the awesome sound & amount bass that cam out for such a small cab. So took a chance & bought the Tannoy Gold 8. However these Chinese manufactured speakers did not impress at all & are no way as good as the UK/European ones that they used to make. Style wise driver looks great, yet IMO ruined with those tacky looking gloss ports.. I'm sending them back, but now I'm wondering what to replace them with.
If you're after a concentric driver layout for near field, I would recommend The Ones from Genelec.
Totally Industrial look but they are _the_ monitors for desk use for those who prioritize accurate imaging and spatial cues
great info wasn't gonna get them for the reasons you said but now i'm more sure thanks !
The screen on the back KRK barely do nothing... For the same price point, I'd like a JBL 3 series also to be compared.
The lcd screen on the back of fourth gen Rokits is a cost saving measure, it was cheaper to have an lcd screen than it was to have the pots and switches used on the V Series 4.
JBL 306
Thx! 💪
Kef ls50s wireless gen 1.
Where are the JBL's? Most popular ACTIVE and lowest price flat response monitor available. Entry level excellence.
Tanoy for the win
Those are Behringers....
@@sorenrichenberg3313owned by Behringer, Design and Production Control still Tannoy, apparently…
I am a tanoy guy but there not flat and my mix can sometimes be allover when I used them told my dad not to get them Adam and fostex 3way
@@allwayzactive4599 I use headphones to mix then check my mix on speakers. Never had a problem. You cant mix on speakers unless you got a sound treated studio room.
My room is great spent 2 years fixing it and it made me buy Yamaha then changed them for t7x coz the Yamahas was hurting my ears
Mre like a ,low end, speaker list but for beginners def not bad. You need to start at some point ;-). I wouldnt choose any of them. I used Neumannˋs in the past KH310, 120 and after a short ,,break,, with Unity Audio SuperRock Monitors (small company from the uk) i‘m back at neumann. Love the sound and also their DSP / MA1 System. KH150 with 2x KH750 subs and a CraneSong dac as Pre Amp
absolutely forget the rokit g4 range. cannot handle deep bass at 3/4 max volume. aboslute shit. woofer waffle. not good really. these are 55watts so maybe the bigger daddy versions can? anyone know if the bigger rokits can handle sub sonic bass guitars ? AND i absolutelty find having an EQ on speakers that are designed to be true to source. yes you can play a setlist to a house party and add bass but surely thre bass on the song itself can be enough?thats why the songs are finalised as u hear them
Rokit 7 have a terrible hiss, returned them the day after hearing it… they all have it.. tried a different pair, it has nothing to do with cables, because even without cables attached it is noticeable, yes its so bad.. which is sad
All Canton speakers are monitors ever!
Obviously the answer is get the best genelecs you can afford.
I have Tannoy System 10 DMT II‘s, the new Behringer Tannoy‘s just don’t live up to the legendary reputation of the real old Tannoy Gold/Red/DMT‘s, not even close….plastic instead of paper pulp….
After watching a half an hour video, I have no idea which speakers sound good. Just giving a bunch of specs barely does anything for me. if you just played each set of speakers going from one to the other playing a few different types of music. Rock, funk, by the end of the video I would have an idea of which set of speakers I liked the sound of. because the quality of the sound is 95% of what is important to me.
invest in sonarworks correction software before you spend money on expensive monitors ,it made my monitors 100% more accurate, i couldnt hear any low end out of my HS8s in my treated room. Yes properly treated with rockwool not foam
yo is this mylar melodies dude looks so different loool
I seriously doubt the sensitivity rating of these sub zero speakers. Drivers delivering that high ratings look different, Woofer and Tweeter. You can't get around physics. Drivers reaching lower then normal frequency levels for the enclosure size, only can achieve this by low sensitivity drivers, period. For the small sub zero, I guess, you'll be lucky if you get 85db. And for the bigger one, come on, 95dB is already PA level, that's ridiculous. But I guess, you know all that yourself.
That’s not the sensitivity rating. That’s the maximum SPL (sound pressure level) that they reach. When playing at full blast. They’re active speakers. Not passive.
I say that because actives rarely give the actual sensitivity rating. As it’s basically irrelevant, since the amplifier is included already. As for the amount of low bass they put out.
It’s average at best. But if it were extremely low. That would have to do with DSP (digital signal processing), basically just a bass boost. That’s another way to get low end extension, besides box size, and low sensitivity.
For instance I knew a guy who had his open baffle subwoofer’s running down to 20hz. Which isn’t even possible normally. But because he boosted them with DSP, and gave them 600 watts. They did it.
Not crazy loud mind you, but they got to 20hz. These were obviously very well built expensive subs that could take the power though. Lesser subs would have seized up real quick I’m sure. ✌️
Two ways is no monitors, just over three ways can reach good performance.
On the high end, humans can't hear anything above 20Khz. Anything above 20Khz is pretty much in the dog whistle range of frequencies.
I think krk still stands on top followed by Adam audio
I am the other way around, but sound is subjective for sure.
Not one mention of hiss between them. This is an extremely important consideration for many people. I've had to send back several pairs for excessive hiss. Your review is incomplete.

What's the point of comment section if there is no argument? That is why UA-cam put it there. If you disagree, you are wrong and I am right and yomama.

you missed one the most important matter which is the amplifier inside. Tannoy is the critical victim you made. do not do this kind of misleading information, please.
See other comment, but in short, there is much more to the success of a speaker design than any one single component - we should consider the speaker's response/output as a whole since active speakers are a marriage of amplifier, driver, cone, case, and other electronics or DSP (_and_ the room!).
@@Gear4musicSynthsTechand the quality of components, and more importantly, build quality, hello China, not as bad as it used to be but not where it should be….
