ı have zero knowledge about sound interfaces and studio monitors but thanks to you, ı begin to understand how ı can use them when ı buy them. Your explanations are clear, simple and well informative. Thank you sir.
awesome video, I'm thinking about buying studio monitors, but I had no idea how to set 2 of them for left and right through XLR. Awesome to see all the solutions and ways of connection 👌🏻
Every day is a school day they say,.Thank you for a well presented and informative video. The simple little things we take for granted in life like Red(for Right) and Black(for Left). Call me stupid if you will (but i'd rather you don't).. but I never gave it a second thought or taken any notice in the past..until now..it is fair to say..I have learnt a lot..Good luck..and well done to you.
I've got some old equipment but still sounds very good. I do have a Focusrite scarlett 4i4 interface, connected to a 40 year old little Radio Shack mixer which is connected to a Pioneer 100 watt stereo receiver which has a set of Alesis studio one monitor speakers connected. When I'm doing tracking, mixing, etc. with my DAW, I use Sennheiser 280 pro headphones connected directly to the interface.
Thanks for the very helpful video! My speakers don't have 6.3mm jack input, and my audio interface (Scarlett) only has 6.3mm jack output. But my speakers have RCA input, so now I have to find somewhere to buy the correct cables. Hopefully I don't have to order online, or I will have to wait for several days before I can use them!
This is a very good video. And thanks for sharing the info about the differences between TS cable and TRS cable. Before watching this video.. I don't really give a serious thought about it. Frankly I just started about having my own home studio. And I do have this one problem like the one you mentioned in this video and that is about the buzzing sound or unwanted electronic signal or noise. I realised that one of my monitor speaker was connected to my audio interface with TS or unbalance cable. Why I did that? At the time when I was setting up my home studio, I was short of one TRS cable. So I just grabbed one of my guitar cable which is a TS cable and used it to connect the monitor speaker. I did this bcoz I just cannot wait any longer to record my first song. So when I started to record my first song, it was like HELL..!! While I was recording, I kept on hearing some unwanted sound or noise and as a result there were few glitch trough out the song that I was recording. So I have to stop and restart for many times bcoz of this and it took many hours for me to record for one song. I'm taking your advice seriously and I'm getting the TRS cable by tomorrow ASAP. Thanks Bro.
I always understood that the balanced tip was for stereo connects. Never knew it had anything to do with the hissing or humming sounds. I've been always connecting unbalanced cable to right and unbalanced cable to left. I need to get my education in check. Lololol Cheers !!
the question is does it sound good??? is it enough to get a good sound? as i know user interfaces have pre amps built up inside which does not have current to drive speakers very well
well structured and very informative, even for non beginners. i asume the same rules go for live performances with audio interfaces? thx a lot, guys and gals!!!
Thanks for helping us newbs... Is a speaker cable needed with these active monitors or should I say does actual speaker cables have any benefiit over standard guitar/instrument trs cables ?
Thanks for sharing, really helpful video and the best on setup that I've seen with the Focusrite Scarlett to speaker monitors! So the Focusrite interface doesn't need a separate power source itself? Is that powered through the USB-C cable from your computer?
Any help about possibilities of outputing from the standard L/R output from something like a focusrite into a single small jack input ? What would be best practice in this case ? Thanks for the video
Is there a good solution if you want the same monitor speakers for 2 computers without having to unplug and switch each time? Id like to use the same ones for both comps and haven't found good workaround. Any help is appreciated!
I wont to know how can I connect a Audio Interface with the Boss Katana 50 MK 2, is the Line Input or the Power Amp In- Connection the right way. Thank you for helping
Hi I already have some Logitech speakers attached to my computer to play Mp3s through. I just bought a Focusrite Solo audio interface so that I can record my guitar. It looks like I now have to buy some powered speakers. This is quite expensive for me at the moment. Is there a good budget option just for a small bedroom for speakers. If I buy some powered speakers for my guitar, can I then use them to play my music mp3s through, so that I don''t have to have so many speakers in my room?
Great explanation. Thank you! I have a Pioneer FLX4 mixer that only has RCA and I bought the Presonus E3.5 XT speakers that have RCA, TRS, and XLR. I am trying to figure if I need a DI box to get a balanced output before connecting to the speakers to avoid distortions.
Is the same method used here for playing live in a club? For example, simply provide 2x TRS cables from the interface to the engineer at the club? Then you monitor yourself from the headphone jack in the interface? Probably yes, but just checking.
Hi, PLEASE HELP. I own a pair of Audioengine +2 speakers and I'm "contemplating" purchasing the Lewitt Connect 6 Audio Interface. My Q. will they work together or not? Thank you in advance.
I have yamaha ag06 mk2 and stagepas 100 only one. So how to take output from ag06 , left monitor out or right monitor out or use something to merge both into one signal ?
Can I connect my audio interface output with a 3,5 mm TRS USB-cable to my cdplayer? I have a Sony HCD-SBT100 sound system and a presonus studio 2/6 audio interface.
Very timely, thanks Jordan. Was thinking about ways that I could hook my mix pre 3 up to my HS5’s. Tell me, do you ever use D.I. Boxes for anything like that? I’m thinking it might be a good way to get signals from a mixer to a consumer recorder. Cheers, Andrew
I purchased the scarlett solo interface. What software do you guys use? I use Caster a free program. It seems to take a lot of Ram so I m looking for something that is a little less robust.
Hello , please help me . I can’t hear the cue in my mix . I have a audio interface connect to two studio monitors that go straight into the laptop and a ddj 400 that is connect directly to the laptop. Do I have to do a different connection to be able to hear the cue in rekordbox dj ? I hear the sound coming from the audio interface and I can mix with the controller is just that if I use the build in aux port from the controller I hear no sound in headphones, but if I use the built in aux from the audio interface I hear the master sound constantly and can’t choose which track to listen to.
Great video. I am new to all of this so it’s great to have this basic info to get me started. My topping dx7 pro amp/dac for listening to headphones also has rca and xlr out for speakers. and my speakers are binding posts only. Should I buy an xlr to a banana plug cable, or an rca to banana plug cable? Or some other option I’m not thinking of?
Great, clear explanation for cabled connections but I was hoping you'd go more in depth on the wave xlr. What if I want headphones AND speakers? If my speakers have usb, I'm assuming I connect them to the pc and I can map them to the 3rd toggle on the wave xlr? So I would have mic, headphones and speakers all controllable via the dial? I'm interested in doing it this way so I can use the wave xlr dial to control my speakers while video editing but if I was to receive a call, I could tap the capacitive mute button on the wave xlr and then put my headphones on. Is that possible? I know people have assigned usb mics to the mic channel on the wave xlr so I'm assuming USB speakers could be assigned?
I’m wondering... just so I’m sure! Do the balanced 1/4 TRS connector cables used with your interface, work as an input into your pc for recording vocals / vocal with guitar etc? :)
Hello bro. Please do u have a video on connecting and audio interface to a stereo reciver so i can use my passive speakers with my behringer uphoria 404hd
Is there such a thing as a male-male mono balanced 1/4” to RCA? Or would it be necessary to have two Y cables, 1/4” balanced to 2 RCAs, with each leaving an unused RCA connector? I’m prompted to ask by the possibility of connecting to a tube amp with RCA inputs (which outputs to unpowered speakers) from an interface like the Apogee Ensemble, which has 2 1/4” monitor outputs, or from an RME Fireface 802 1/4” DA line out (6.3 mm TRS jack, servo-balanced)
Can i connect 2 monitors but also a headphones to the scarlett 2i2? so i can just quick switch from listening from the monitors to listening from the headphones?
Kettner, looks like my Scarlett Solo interface only has the 2 small red & white (RCA I think) inputs on the back, where it says "Line Inputs". To use balanced TRS cables, I'd need to get adapters for those red & white line inputs?
Great video. Not sure if I missed it or you covered it, I'm trying to connect powered speakers (JBL 306Ps) that only has XLR and TRS connections to my Yamaha A/V that does provide RCA Audio Out (1 left, 1 right). Will a RCA to TRS/TS cable work here? Also, would they be pre-out connections from the AV and not from speaker outs?
How about a 3.5mm headphone output from my audio interface to the 3.5mm input say a soundbar? E.g. Revelator IO24 to Mackie Stealthbar. Will it still function with stereo separation?
I have 2 MK ll JBL series 3 powered monitor speakers. Is there a DAC that I can use to hook to a Newer Sony OLED TV. I don’t wanna invest in a Soundbar !
Does this preamp work or connect to the newer apple computers running OS Monterey and will it connect via USB-C because that all that available on my M1 Max MacBook Pro that connects to my XDR Display? Hope you have time to answer. Even on Amazon they don’t show a photo of the rear of the unit leaving everyone including me how the Dac connects to the computer

Dude, you told me everything I was looking for, thank you so much! 👍
This is the best answer on the internet by a country mile. Thanks for taking the time to educate!
Best video Answered all my questions. Thanks.
All the info I needed to hook-up my monitors to my audio interface with the TRS cables. I was definitely over thinking the setup! Great video!!!
Great to hear!
Thanks a loooooot! I've been studying about cables and connections all day, and your vid supported my guesses... straightforward and clear!
Your guides are simply great - your method of teaching is great.
awesome video, I'm thinking about buying studio monitors, but I had no idea how to set 2 of them for left and right through XLR. Awesome to see all the solutions and ways of connection 👌🏻
one of the best pieces of content for this scenario! many thanks, i was really searching for a video like this!

Glad it was helpful!

Very good explanatory videos! You are very pedagogical, I am learning a lot! Keep up the good work!
This was flawless
Loved this video! Thank you so much.
very good job communicating clearly.
Thank you, sir! Great video. You explain where even I get it! Again, thank you!
Excellent -- very clear and helpful. I will check out other videos of yours. Thank you!
This was really helpful bro, thanks
Wow! Great tutorial. Everything i need to know now. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful. At first am afraid to connect from interface headphones out to rca speaker
Outstanding video on the subject. Thanks!

I think you are the right guy to ask,
how do i connect my mixer which has a ts/trs output directly to passive speakers which has + - poles?
I always understood that the balanced tip was for stereo connects. Never knew it had anything to do with the hissing or humming sounds.
I've been always connecting unbalanced cable to right and unbalanced cable to left.
I need to get my education in check. Lololol
Cheers !!
Aha. A balanced cable can be used two ways:
1) Stereo, Unbalanced
2) Mono, Balanced
It depends how you're using it. Glad you found the video helpful!
Just the video what I was looking for, thanks!
thanks!
the question is does it sound good???
is it enough to get a good sound?
as i know user interfaces have pre amps built up inside which does not have current to drive speakers very well
Good info dude
But 15 feet seems a long way.
I'm not playing at Shea Stadium, just in my bedroom
well structured and very informative, even for non beginners. i asume the same rules go for live performances with audio interfaces? thx a lot, guys and gals!!!
very informative video sir i learned alot on this video thankyou 🙂
I'm going to use this information to connect my balanced cables into this new batch of cornbread I made.
Very nice and clean instruction. Thank you very much.

How do we connect interface to the computer ? With the aux cable to line in?
those balanced cables are normal trs stereo cables?
Thank you bro
Thank you very much for this explications 🙏
very very helpful video. thx so much.
You are amazing, and life saver!
Thanks!
Thanks! Great explanation

Hey did you ever figure it out
Great, clear explanation for cabled connections but I was hoping you'd go more in depth on the wave xlr. What if I want headphones AND speakers? VERY GOOD - PORTUGAL
What if the audio output cable from the PC is noisy?
I’m wondering... just so I’m sure!
Do the balanced 1/4 TRS connector cables used with your interface, work as an input into your pc for recording vocals / vocal with guitar etc? :)
If I'm just using a mic to record, or even just to do live performances in a small enclosed space, will I need amps or anything like that?
Anyone can help ? I'm using MacBook air, how i should connect HS5 with 3.5mm headphone jack so as to producing powered audio ? Thanks in anticipation.
can I use a pair of monitors for two computers? (both have individual audio interfaces plugged in)?
Not sure if this requires same method but can you connect klipsch monitor speakers to a receiver? Thank you in advance.
Thankyou!!!
Do i need a audio interfacer to use KRK studio monitors with my Pioneer XDJ-XZ ?
No, you can connect them straight to the XDJ
@@kettnercreative Thanks for the answer.
Can I go Audio interface>Trs>RCA>power amp>rca>passive speaker? Cause I heard rca is unbalanced so I’m not sure.
You can. It would be best if your cables were short
Hello bro. Please do u have a video on connecting and audio interface to a stereo reciver so i can use my passive speakers with my behringer uphoria 404hd
soo what if you DONT have self powered speakers - how would you connect them to an audio interface to use with your computer?
Audio Interface > Amp > Passive Speakers.

What do i need if i want to connect 8 studio monitors together in one room from the same stereo signal ??
my speakers do not sound i need hep, they are conect with xlr. i need help. i use daw fl studio 20.
thank you
You used TS to RCA, can I use TRS to RCA? and make it balanced? Will that work?
You can us TRS to RCA, but it won't balance the signal because RCA is always unbalanced and is the limiting factor.
Nice video
Thanks. Helpful. Do you have a video for an A/B switch when you are running two or more sets of monitors?
Not yet!
Kettner, looks like my Scarlett Solo interface only has the 2 small red & white (RCA I think) inputs on the back, where it says "Line Inputs". To use balanced TRS cables, I'd need to get adapters for those red & white line inputs?
Helpful
but should i have an soundcard for speaker monitors?. i produce EDM music which is not really need audio interface.
Btw dont forget to use a audio transmitting usb c cable not just a ordinary phone charger Wasted 2 hours of my time
Great video.
