That ice technique is the coolest
Just a tip...use a mold(cake or make one with aluminum foil)of some sort to keep the ice in place

Just so you all know, and don’t make the same mistake I made by trying to do the right thing and following the instructions… The shirt needs to be WET they do not say that in the instructions this would’ve been amazing information to know now I must wash and RE tie dye with my nephew.

Lots of people do bleach dyeing! The way I was instructed was to cut out a design in plastic and place it on top, put some diluted bleach in a spray bottle, and spritz it on top of the design. It left a cool black swirl on the shirt.

You will need to use procion dye...they produce much richer and concentrated colors that will be vibrant

The shirt should be wet with very hot water first, squeezed out then apply rubber bands and dye. For cotton add salt. Let it sit. Rinse with cold water. Or else the dye will all fall out like in the video.
I remember your method in primary school. Before untying u boil in hot salty water.
@@viroswa Also you can make the colors richer and more saturated by adding a cup of Borax to the hot pre-soak, let it sit for an hour. It's in the laundry aisle.

After you wash and rinse the color fades a lot. How can this be fixed? Maybe microwave the item?
Use soda ash. It helps a lot. Soak for 20 minutes in 1 cup soda ash to 1 gallon warm water.

You should let it sit however long as how dark you want the dye to be. For intense deep colors, leave overnight. For light wash, leave only 3-4 hours.

Hi Regine, great question!
We generally recommend washing your fabric and leaving it damp before tie-dyeing, as the dye has an easier time saturating the fabric when it’s wet.
But depending on the technique and the look you want, you can apply dye to dry fabric. Just make sure the fabric has been washed (if it’s new) to remove the sizing.
Applying dye to dry fabric results in more color saturation but less uniform permeation throughout the fabric.
