  • DIY: HOW TO CREATE AND HAND SEW BACK PATCH FROM OLD BAND T-SHIRT.
    Hi guys,
    I'm currently obsessed with customising my denim jacket. After running out of embroidered patches to add I decided to take matters into my own hands. My old "The Smiths - Meat is Murder" tee had been sitting in my closet for a long time not being worn so I turned it into a back patch for my 'battle jacket'. I love it, and here is a tutorial on how you can do the same. All you'll need is a needle and thread (probably some scissors too lol) and a whole lot of patience. No iron-on patch necessary.
    Thank you for watching and I really would appreciate your feedback.

    How has it held up since then? I want a Dio patch for my jacket but I can't find the specific size that I need. So just putting a t-shirt on there would work but I'm worried about how it would hold up and look

    • @ellenrosemarieharvey
      @ellenrosemarieharvey  Рік тому

      Hey, I know this is super late but it's still holding up well! I don't really wear it that often but it is still sturdy and looks good. I never machine washed it because of all the other patches but I feel like on a gentle cycle buttoned up inside out would wash well. I definitely think the folding over of the edges and double sewing helps with the reinforcement!!!

    I know this is an old video, but how well does the shirt stay on the jacket? That's my fear is that it will start peeling off or start stretching and become messed up

    • @ellenrosemarieharvey
      @ellenrosemarieharvey  2 роки тому +2

      I never had any trouble! Because I sewed the shirt separately like with the green stitching that made it into a solid patch and then it attached. I never put it through the washing machine but I imagine if you did you'd need to put the jacket in a pillow case or something to protect the stitching!

    make your finger into that gun shape thing lick the two fingers then wrap the thread two times around the tip of your pointer finger and use your thumb and pointer finger to just kinda roll it off... it gives you a knot fairly quickly

    That's not bad, but I'll do it another way. Firts of all fix it with some "tear Back" embroidery stabilizer or embroidery adhesive on the back of the old band T-shirt, Then with sewing machine try to sew a good boreder and then sew in on the jacket. Before this fixing to the back with embroidery adhesive spray!!!!

    Maybe I missed it, but any tips on reinforcing the fabric? Some shirts are made from really flimsy material that tears easily. I used duct tape to reinforce a Bauhaus patch I sewed to a hoodie, and discovered very quickly that it reflects a *lot* of heat. It's great for when it's cold, but undesirable of you're in a sweaty crowded venue. I was thinking about using rubber glass (one of the materials I have available at the shop), but have no shirts I currently want to sacrifice to the cause, so looking for recommendations.

    • @ellenrosemarieharvey
      @ellenrosemarieharvey  4 роки тому +6

      Hi, I just folded the edges over, pinned them and tacked around them before adding it. That worked for me but you could maybe try bondaweb or heat n bond which hardens when you iron it onto the back of a fabric. I used that when I made little patches !

    After sewing the edges in, I totally though you were going to use a fusion-type interface fabric to simply iron it onto the jacket. You could still have added the green outline stitching afterward if you like the look of it.
