    This is one of the best Combat Mission videos I have seen, very good deployment
    and tactical use of your armor, hope to see more videos from you.

    Great stuff. If you click on an enemy unit, your units that can see him are automatically highlighted so you don't have to go clicking through all of your units to find out who the one is that can see the enemy.

    Hands down by far the best AAR since Jeffrey Pauldings's Tactics Videos in Armchair General. Good for you. Hats off and all that.I am grateful for the scenes without icons and thanks for showing the turn play only and not including the plotting of your moves.Please make more of these.

    Thank you for the video, very nice AAR! Hopefully you will make more of them. I liked the unbalance between your mainly infantry and your friends mainly armored forces - and as I did my service in infantry, I was glad to see the guy with more infantry to win!

    Probably one of the better gun duels I have seen in a long time. George did a great job of achieving fire superiority. Nicely done with the Pz IV's

    a good tip is if you left click an enemy unit, the icon of any friendly unit that is currently spotting that enemy will light up.

    When you click on an enemy tank or unit you see, it lights up your unit and shows you which of your units can see it. I'm sure you know it by now probably.

    Surprising neither player made a run for the town immediately. If someone gets there first they can set up a hasty defense, obliging the other to attack over open ground against an occupied objective. My understanding is that in meeting engagements speed wins. Or am I missing something?

    Hi! Very nice video! However, having no real clue about WWII warfare, one realism-related question came to my mind. In this scenario, the map looked so cramped. So many troops are concentrated in a comparatively small area. In between the tanks, there are no more than 20 meters. Therefore, I wanted to ask the more knowledgable veterans here: Is my gut-feeling wrong? Were such extreme concentrations of troops common?

    • @bygeorge3870
      @bygeorge3870  9 років тому +1

      TheKaunitz Thank you. You are right. The density of forces is probably higher than you would normally see in real life. Though it's not unheard of. Take a look at photos from D-Day, the Marines landing on Tarawa, or some of the massive Eastern Front battles. In the game the points available to purchase forces is dependent on the map and we used a large map. I purchased relatively cheap units so I had a lot of them. My opponent paid for those expensive heavy Russian tanks and didn't have near the infantry I did.

    • @fadujakola882
      @fadujakola882 9 років тому +3

      TheKaunitz Extreme concentrations were a rule in hot spots of WWII battles, but then there rarely were these kind of meeting engagements, in which both armies deployed equal size of forces in the beginning of the skirmish, to take the same area at the same time. As a rule larger force attacked against smaller defending force, and depending of the situation one or both sides were reinforced during the action.
      Battalion size force, less than thousand fighting men, was usual amount when taking a small town. Strategically those hills would have been probably more interesting than the small town in between. As you can see in George's vid decisive part of the battle was solved on those hills, and not so much in the town.

    Well, I've some questions as I right now in the morning, discovered this game the very first time ;)
    EDIT (see below)
    1)
    How is the deployment phase before the game?
    You have your stock units and "buy" what is (time authentic?) in some pool?
    2)
    What theatres and time periods are available?
    Only Russia or maybe others too, like Afrika?
    3)
    I guess it makes more fun with some "real" player, but can you play against the AI as well?
    How many players playing it and is there some "campaign"?
    4)
    Is there some map editor/campaign editor?
    5)
    Are the weapon ranges realistic?
    6)
    Can you point click drag your units in from this view (replay phase)?
    7)
    Can troops enter buildings?
    Can they dig in and make positions, towing guns, creating obstackles?
    8)
    Are there night maps?
    9)
    Ammunition is endless I think, can you resupply on map?
    Or how is it?
    10)
    Is there moral, veterancy, and a parameter for calmness?
    11)
    Are buildings, bridges destroyable and on other hand, can your engineers build stuff?
    EDIT:
    Ok, I checked it in the net, still I the question about supply on map and player base are remaining !!
    A lot of questions, I know, but as I watch this video, it gets me somehow ;)
    Thank you

    • @bygeorge3870
      @bygeorge3870  9 років тому +1

      +K98_Zock_TV Yes, supply is limited. Infantry may re-supply from some vehicles if they are present. Tanks may not re-supply as that's beyond the tactical scope of this game. I recommend that you download the demos available and play them. You will get a good idea of how the game plays and if it's for you.

      Thank you very much for the informations.
      This game is really interesting for me.
      Normally I prefer real-time strategy, but that you have no impact on your troops, other than giving orders, is the thing here, how I understand :)
      If this game has a good playerbase, I would like to try it in the nearer future.

      Well, I downloaded the demos Italy and Red Thunder.
      Its great!!
      This game makes you feel as leading an actual Company/Kampfgruppe/Task Force.
      As my golden rule is, not to pay more than about 60 Euro per month for a video game ;) and I am full now - Probably it will be November or December for one of these full versions.
      What would you recommended?
      I checked also the Forum and saw, that Normandy has pretty much Users.
      So, how is the player base for each of this WW2 CMx2 games?
      Also I want to ask you, cause my channel focus (as my personally interest too) lays on WW2 games and this era - how you record it?
      My implemented Shadowplay record programm from my graphic card (NVIDIA) doesnt identify this game.
      Or maybe its only with the demo, so I've no clue....
      Thank you

    • @bygeorge3870
      @bygeorge3870  9 років тому

      +K98_Zock_TV I don't own Italy so I can't comment on it. But you can't go wrong with either game in my opinion. Get one now and ask Santa Claus for the other!
      I think Normandy and Red Thunder are more popular than Italy. You can post in the Opponent Finder Forum on the main page that lists the forums...at the bottom.
      You are right, Shadowplay won't record Combat Mission. I use Fraps. www.fraps.com/

      Normandy and Red Thunder than are like Red Orchestra 1 (Darkest Hour and Ostfront) more popular than Fortress Italy (Mare Nostrum).......damn it ;)
      I personally like the mediterrean Theatre very much, dont know why.
      Yes, one of the games it will be for the next buying decision.
      I admit, I must exercise and get used to the controls and possibilities ingame, also its really hard on 'veteran', but this kind of tactical leading simulation is very nice.
      For now, thank you for the answers and I hope maybe we can make one day/night play one round together.
      So long, keep your CM vids coming :)
      PS:
      I am not sure if Santa Claus (how you say in the U.S.) will bring anything to a 33year old army veteran, hehe

    In real life one of the most used tactics for t-34's was swarming the german heavy tanks right? So would they try and rush or would they like in this scenario hold back and engage in a shooting duel?

    • @bygeorge3870
      @bygeorge3870  8 років тому +1

      +Ramon Revichev You are right. But it requires room to maneuver on the flanks for the Russian T-34's to do that. My opponent didn't have that luxury on this map. I believe that's why he brought heavy tanks...to try and win the shootout. Unfortunately for him it didn't work out that way. The other strategy might have been to rush T-34's into the village and hide. That would force me to dig him out. Maybe next time...

    • @dentistguba
      @dentistguba 8 років тому +1

      These german tanks arent that heavy though and they are 85's, germans could still have better targeting though.

  • @JuergenGDB
    @JuergenGDB 9 років тому

    All of the IS tanks had a slow rate of fire. Large caliber, small cramped crew compartments. IS-152, 122. and JS 1 and 2 slow rate of fire and few rounds... maybe that was ok as they had a life expectancy of around 60 days. That being said, when ever I play I usually will bring at least a couple Tiger I tanks.. but Panthers are extremely lethal..... they are my go choice in pbem. I also love that sometimes you choose wisely... and sometimes not. The Pz IV with its 75mm L48 was still a very capable weapon.. about on par with the US 76mm (minus the HVAP) and just a slight under the 85mm of the T-34 perhaps.

      By George What Combat mission would you recommend for someone who is decent at strategy games, mainly real time, some turn based, but wants the best content overall? I am mainly WW2 fan, but do like the Modern stuff as well.

      Shaw Dawg It really depends on your area of interest. You can't go wrong with Battle for Normandy or Red Thunder in my opinion. And Battle for Normandy has expansion options in Market Garden and the Commonwealth packs. So, I'd recommend you start there if you don't have a preference for Western or Eastern Fronts.
