Sifu Ben Der: "I'm not a master, I'm still learning".
    That's what you call humble.
Life is a journey, and you never stop learning until the day you die.

Glad to see Sifu Ben still teaching Wing Chun. Watching this brought back so many good memories of 1974 when I studied in his classes at San Jose State and in his backyard in South San Jose. I really enjoyed those classes.

Have you made it back to visit at all? I'm sure Sifu would love to see you, old students dropping in always puts a smile on his face (though let's be honest, Sifu is ALWAYS smiling) :)
He's still teaching every week, in the same place, and every class is a joy

He shouldn't be teaching Wing Chun because he only knows the modified version of Wing Chun, and that is flawed. JKD is EXTREMELY flawed because it uses Boxing derivatives, that are inherently flawed, stiff, and INCOMPLETE!!

      Put up or shut up.
If you think what you learned from Cheung's line is so damn great, test it out.
You notice literally everyone else says Cheung made his stuff up and there's literally no substance or proof for his claims, right? Your forms don't even conform to the core structure of Wing Chun. The only one with modified anything is you because Cheung was so damn busy chasing girls that he never paid attention in class and had to make up a bunch of lies to explain why his wing chun looks so different.
I try to stay out of wing Chun drama but you keep insulting people you can't hold a candle to. Stop being a keyboard warrior and go touch some actual hands, jfc

I have been training in Wing Chun for over 40 years I never called myself a master or a grandmaster nor do I want to be considered as aMasterpeople get caught up into to many self imposed titles. I just want to be the best that I can be an effective practioner that is acceptable enough for me. I am from Canada (West Coast ) and I’m from the Leung Shung tree very nice video.

Love this. There seems to be a trend in our family towards humility. Sitaigung Leung Sheung set a good example for all of us. He never exalted himself or even advertised. "If you find me, you are lucky."

Whenever talking about YIP man & the late Bruce Lee. It needs to be known that Bruce was taught for only 1 year by two senior students at the Yip mans school. They were Won Shun Lueng & William Chung.
William Chung was my grandmaster & I have the pleasure of meeting & training with Wong Shon Lueng only two times here in Sydney. He was a very polite quiet friendly guy. He showed us one movement in the Silum Toa form that he considered useless. At the time I had a business near the school run by Sifu Bill Lee who invited his master Wong Shong Lueng meet us all. It was an honor & a privilege to meet & train with these people

    • @andson49a

Actually Bruce started in 1955 and stopped in 1958, when he was threatened with being expelled from Ip Man's Kwon, for pulling too many stunts on other students. But Ip saw Bruce's dedication, and saw him improve scholastically, so he let him stay.

  • @mokyan7

He sounds down to earth and wise. Also he is not afraid to ask questions, adapt, brainstorm.
It looks slow and basic because he is teaching the principles, position, rotation, relaxation, spiraling, rooting.
Later as you do more and add to those, they give the support for power, speed, quality, balance. You are training muscle memory and alignment too.
Around 16:00 when he is showing ‘wrong’ ways, you notice he is moving too much and focused on the shoulders and out-muscling the opponent. He is lifting his bong sau with the shoulder, instead of corkscrewing it forward . If you try both ways it feels way different, and the structure behind it is also far different.
In the correct ways, you feel secure rooting and balance, but you focus on your elbows, hips, lats. Plus you use some spiraling or rotation and deflection to move the opponent. Sifu calls that ‘sliding leverage’ at times.
Wing Chun emphasizes relaxation and touch, but don’t forget eventually to add speed, power, mobility and explosiveness to have all attributes.

Sifu Ben is great. I remember him and SiGung Ken Chung visiting Sifu Eddie Chong's Sunset Wing Chun classe in San Francisco in the early 80's. Sifu Eddie at the time had a couple of San Quentin prison guards and the prison psychologist among his students. I remember one of the big guards chi saoing with SiBok Ben (Senior Uncle to me. He is the one who introduced Eddie to Ken.) SiBok Ben was stopping the guard with two fingers!! The guard, try as he could, never touched SiBok Ben's chest. We were all amazed as Ben mentioned he has a handicap. One leg is shorter than the other. He was always relaxed and good humored.
Glad to see Sifu Ben and Sifu Harindr together. Sifu Harindr came to the Small Circle Jujitsu Hombu in Alameda as a guest of Prof Jim Hundon at Prof Wally Jay's home dojo. It was during a visit of Prof Leon Jay. Harindr gave an impressive demo.
By the way, Bruce Lee trained and traded knowledge with Prof Wally Jay in the sixties within the same walls.
God bless you both, your students and the Budo Brothers for the presentation of a mother art of JKD by one who was there.

So true you know being a martial artist isn't just about fighting it's about a way of life and how you treat yourself how you treat your body and how you treat others I've been doing more sorts since I was five and I'm 55 years old and I studied Wing Chun and tight each one and then my teacher had a hapkido teacher and I learned hapkido in my early twenties after doing kung fu for 18 years and it's good to know different different styles there is no best it's the teacher in the individual and how hard you train I was fortunate where I trained in Chinatown in New York and trained under the same Federation yep man and I have to say when anytime I taught my students they taught how to be humble and how to heal with it yes if someone comes looking for trouble we will do what we need to do but it's about peace and harmony and it really will help you in your life and you're walking life that's the most important thing and I don't believe in belts and ranks cuz you're always learning and every time I told my students I learned something from them cuz every student is different and you have to learn to have patience because not every student can do the same thing as your other students some might have back problems some might have injuries some might lose focus so you you have to learn to balance and have patience and teach them right and I'm still learning I used to have a school years ago and now I just do it to myself and total my kids it is a way of life for me and I love doing Tai Chi Chuan with my hot keto and Wing Chun cuz a lot of wind Chun has Tai Chi Chuan moves you learn how to flow in them and you do tight she cuz it's very slow movement so you develop a lot of power and a lot of speed and technique and timing is everything or in the technique warn the timing and the speed will come my master always told me that technique technique get your timing and your speed automatically comes hapkido is the totally different system than the Kung Fu it has an offense and defense in locks so I I developed a system every system I teach is a full core system but I do have a combat system that it was designed for the street and I shorten the techniques so where you can flow Tai Chi into Wing Chung or wind Chung into Tai Chi right into hapkido locks and throw them break while they're in the air and you could break while they hit the ground and you don't let go see like in Jiu-Jitsu they throw their opponent use their own Force against yourself and help keto when you block I break when I throw you you're broke and when you come to the ground I don't let go if it's necessary but you don't have to do that but that's how how ketos taught in a lot of Choke outs Wing Chun is all trapping and blocking and I am Palm strikes and nerve damage and pressure points and crane techniques you know it has a lot of kung fu different systems in it too and Tai Chi to me there is no best but I think Tai Chi is one of the best forms to do cuz it relaxes your body it controls your blood pressure he can raise your heartbeat you could slow it down your fluid your woe to the ground you come up and you doing everything slow and you develop a lot of power so a lot of my students some just want to learn hapkido so what just teach them how keto but I would always make them do tai chi cuz it made their system so much better into fight against other systems so a lot of my friends had different styles that they taught and my students would get together and they would fight against different systems and aspiring way cuz when you fight in a ring and you fight in the street it's different so you have to learn to be able to get hit and be able to take a punch cuz if you can't take a punch or get hit it's not going to do you any good and no matter how much martial arts you learn if you're free to apply and use it when you have to it's not going to do you any good so you can't be afraid to use it you can't be afraid to apply it when it's necessary and you must never hesitate against your opponent so I used to teach the traditional systems but at the same time teach them a combat system designed for the street cuz there's a lot of people out there in the street that know how to fight I want to hurt people there's people that don't know martial artists that know how to fight really good and dirty in the street that could beat martial artist so you got to know how to get yourself if you get yourself in that situation so it's good to know different areas learn how to fight if you get knocked on the ground you need to know all these different systems I prefer not to be on the ground I like to take you out when you're standing up it's I feel it's not necessary to wrestle people on the ground but if you get knocked down you should always be able and be prepared and how to get yourself out of it so a lot of my students wanted to just learn self-defense so I would just teach them a combat system tight sheet and master Tai Chi would take you over 20 years you got to learn the forms you got to wearing your push and pull iron Palm strikes you got to have a full with your tea and yes it is an exercise but at the same time it is a deadly art and it was designed by a woman and it has every system in it so when Chung is my foundation and I love it but I love to do the Tai Chi with it he just benefits so much from it but everyone have a wonderful blessed day and continue to crush life and be blessed and be humble

This video is especially interesting for me due to my Uncle. He told me about training in martial arts when he got out of the Navy. (He ultimately died due to his service in Viet Nam) He told me about Arnold Swanziager m/s, and about a martial arts instructor who was close to Bruce Lee. This would of been in the early 70s. As I said, he's passed away now, so I can't ask him about this video. As a result of what he told me. I've always been interested in Jeet Kune Do (m/s?) I remember as a young boy. After my Uncle came back from California to live in Colorado. How massive his arms were. He was seriously into martial arts and weightlifting.

It’s not the nucleus of JKD. In the beginning, sure but JKD is more about detachment than sticking or sensitivity.

WC was not the "Nucleus" of JKD. Bruce Lee allready trained different Kung Fu styles when he was in his youth in Hong Kong. He even trained boxing there and won a collage tournament in boxing. His JKD had a lot of Fencing, Boxing and Savate.

What is being said about Wing Chun being the core of JKD would be more true if Bruce had "finished" his Wing Chun training. He did not(chum kiu/biu gee)--nor did he finish his muk yan jong training.

Budo Brothers no worries! Thank you for recording and preserving an important part of Wing Chun history. Both sifu Ben and Ken Chung rarely ever have anything online and it’s really nice to have such a lengthy video. If you like Wing Chun, you have to touch hands with sifu or any of their senior students at least once in your lifetime.

Nope, FMA is the nucleus of JKD or else Mr Lee would have just named it Wing Chun plus. Wing Chun rarely adapt other styles but the soul of FMA welcome and adapt other styles. The history of Philippines alone consist of multi-colonist. That is why China took years to accept JKD. This one of the reason Mr Lee get challenge ALL the time fighting his OWN people.

I like the video but I don't like the bald dude. I have negative chi coming from him. As a martial artist myself, to always trust your instincts. Replace the bald dude and replace him with me. I may not have the skills just yet but I do have hair and exceptional shape for someone who's 44yrs old. Also yes I can do the split. Like I said before I am a martial artist. My father is my first teacher. I lost track but back to the video. Much love and respect sir. Also I sense and feel great positive energy from you. Thumbs up. I enjoy the video.

Chi Sau is the basis for modern Wrestling drills. Get deep enough into JKD which is way passed the Wing Chun and JKD weapons fighting will destroy MMA fighters with a weapon in their hands.
