Les Dawson was an amazing man. He asked my dad advice about how to tell his kids their mam had died, when she finally did, because he knew mine and my brothers had 8 years before. I love him.
My late Father used to work the taxis in the seventies and he used to do the airport runs to the Theatre Royal Norwich, he used to pick up several of the celebrities back in the day, but he said that Les Dawson was the most generous always giving a £5 tip.
My dad used to work at Lytham crematorium & knew les Dawson. Les used to come to the crematorium to visit his wife's grave . Whenever they saw each whilst driving they'd wind the window down & stick two fingers up at each other.
I knew Les and his family at this time and went to school with his son and daughter. I once played trumpet at a school Christmas concert and Les commented to the lady sat next to him how bad the performance was, he was right, I was terrible but what he didn’t know is that the lady sat next to him was my mum. You didn’t cross my mum but it all ended in laughter. Great man was Les, with a great family. I never knew what happened to his two children he had with Meg
At 0:56 just look at the reaction to the man behind Les when he sees Eamonn, Eamonn was so famous in Britain back then, seeing him there in person was a great thrill.
I know he worked with writers, but there was just something about him that made him the funniest man ever. Eric Morecambe and Tommy Cooper would always get the plaudits, but for me, Les was the greatest.
I've go his autograph! He was driving his Chauffer at his chauffer's wedding in Solihull, I was 9 I think, he drew me a caricature of a naked woman! I had no idea. Lovely man.
Les was among the best of men. A great comedian and indeed 'wordsmith' : Les Dawson was a lovely genuine person! The mere sight of Hughie Green sets my teeth on edge; ... a bully and a bigot. Green was just a nasty and bitter man!
I am midway through his autobiography, easily one of the best written biographies around. At this time you can still pick it up for less than the price of postage. The reason he looks so gobsmacked is he was worried his wife was having an affair, due to silent phone calls and home visits of strange men to his house when he was out. Of course it was only the show team arranging this episode.
My girlfriends mother who used to run a brothel in Hong Kong back in the 1960s/70's has a nice picture of LD and her together, he used to play the piano in a French house of ill repute to put the punters off kilter... I think the place in HK was a kind of topless bar type thing often frequented by people on leave etc etc etc
I would have been just an infant at the time of this footage (born just eight months when decimalisation took place!) Saw Les Dawson some years later when growing up!
I thought that. 4 years after opportunity knocks? he starred in pantomime, and a short-lived bbc show. maybe after he did blankety-blank. and the production was a bit of a mess. that friend from the scout troop, what the hell did he say? and that set. wow.
A British Comedy legend. Just like Tommy Cooper or Tony Hancock or Spike Milligan....all you had to do was look at them and you'd find yourself laughing. 😂
We had Les, we had Eric & Ernie, we had both Ronnies - what have we got now ................... ??. Thank **** for UA-cam !
Ant and fkn Dec 💩
One of the last great comedians. Sorely missed.
Rip Les.

Can we please go back to these times 😢
Yes Please! When life was so much easier!
Bring back the good times we miss
One of the greatest comedians of all time. The world is a much duller place without Les.

If only we could rewind the time to these great days and fantastic entertainers. In my lifetime, our country has gone to the dogs

I met Les once. Great guy. RIP ❤
I never thought I would see Les Dawson lost for words 😊😊 x
Loved this man growing up Brilliant Great Man !!

Some people just have funny bones. He only had to look at the camera to get a laugh.
A great comedian ... the skits he did with Shirley Bassey were a hoot...
RIP Les
Notice how the Gents stand up every time a woman takes her seat. A different age.
Nowadays we're afraid to assume it's a woman. Could be a them, or a they or a non nothing sex, or identify as a Duck.
@@andydixon2980 Yeah, they would tear you to pieces on twitter.

Hi, I am from collyhurst where Les was from and you have the same name as my late mother.❤
Loved les wished we'd got people like this now, all to fake and full of themselves
We always knew when the in-laws were about to visit. The mice would throw themselves on the traps.😅
They don’t make like that anymore not aloud to say anything in case they upset somebody x
A gob smacked Les Dawson... I thought Id never see that.
Funny bloke 😢😢
Did anyone give Eamon his own ‘this is your life’?
I seem to remember, the tables were turned on him once by, I think David Nixon….
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bit quick to do Dawson, weren't they? I mean he only won op knocks 3 years earlier, right?
I thought that. 4 years after opportunity knocks? he starred in pantomime, and a short-lived bbc show. maybe after he did blankety-blank. and the production was a bit of a mess. that friend from the scout troop, what the hell did he say? and that set. wow.
That's what I was thinking.
Yes, too early for the glorious Cissie and Ada sketches, and my favourite, Les playing the piano and encouraging the audience to sing along.
that raised platform on set is a health & safety nightmare 😂
I was hopeing to see his mother in law haha
Ooof, Hughie Green!
No one today all bag rubbish that's fact
When poor Meg passed away it didn’t take long for number two to come off the subs bench
You sound a bitter human being.
collier was dreadful act for years

His face what a lovely fella Les was
Hughie green showed up a few years ago in some UFO documents
seems his military service was quite interesting
