  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
    Today, I'm sharing a small but significant sketchbook with you. I hope it's useful and/or inspiring.
    Because I knew I'd have busy times ahead, when starting this sketchbook, I chose a small sized book. It felt accessible and it was easy to carry around as well. We were selling our apartment and preparing to move at the time, so the pages in this sketchbook hold memories of all that, and the last drawings of the oh so familiar living room and home that I've lived in for 13 years.
    Even when I'm busy, I keep my drawing habit. I NEED to draw and to capture my life in such a creative way. It relaxes me, it gives me a meditative moment, it brings me back into the moment, and it's almost kind of like a gratitude journal. These are all reasons that make me want to make time for drawing. I know it's not easy to find time, or to make time in a busy day, but you can do it! You don't have to change your whole life to add a little habit like drawing, but DO make it a priority, because drawing makes you happy!

    It's great to see an artist really pushing the boundaries of what a sketchbook can be- fill up every page, use mixed media, draw right across a 2 page spread and stick in little mementos! A sketchbook really is a well of inspiration, a diary, a mad scientist's laboratory, and a little tiny galley all in one! Thanks for letting us have a peek!

    When you showed the flower doodle page I thought that it reminded me of the book I just got. Then when you said the name of the book and author, I smiled because it's the same book! I love your sketches and decided that this year I need to draw, paint and create more! Thanks for sharing and best wishes in your new home😊

I keep feeling frozen when I look at my sketchbook thinking that I have to create something "perfect" or "pretty". I need to go back to reading your book for more inspiration!! 🥰❤

    I love this loosen stile! It's so cool that you made this visual diary of a period of life. I want to teach myself to make fast sketches too. Because every time it takes so long for me to capture something, that I cannot draw every day :(
    But after this video I'll try to force myself to get rid of this stupid fear of an imperfect drawing.
    Your sketches are perfect! I stopped video several times to take a closer look at some of them. I falled in love with them 😍

      Maybe you can make it into a game. Set a timer and try to get as much on the page as you can within 5, 10 or 15 minutes. It's a great way to practice loosening up because there is no time to slow down on details.

    I like this, and like your style. It feels good when I begin recognizing people's styles on IG. (is your friend Alvin "The Art of Alvin" Alvin?). I've had your book on order, but it's in New Jersey and hasn't moved in a WEEK! I've contacted the shop... Also, learned something else here. You mention "selling" your apartment. In the US there aren't many places where one owns an apartment. New York City is one. But around the country most apartments are for rent. I do understand the loss one feels when moving from a long-time home. In early 2018 I moved from my lifelong home (house) after 60 years. Mom died, and the house was sold to divide among the 6 kids. I lived there caring for both parents, 24/7, for 24 years. (Fri 1/13 is the 29th anniversary of Dad's stroke which launched me into being a caregiver.) A long road. I actually, after a lot of searching, ended up in the house literally next door!

      @KoosjeKoene  Рік тому +1

      Yep that's Alvin.
      And wow, that must have been an interesting move, moving next door, and after all that too.

    I laughed when you mentioned you do something to the cover of your sketchbook so you know where the front is. I accidentally started working in my last Nostalgie sketchbook backwards and upside down. ;) Oh well! Thanks as always for sharing your inspiration and I hope you're enjoying your new home!

      They're on the shelf and I've never counted. But I've been using sketchbooks for over 10 years now and I fill one a month or one every 1.5 month.
