Enjoyed this video and look forward to more “Make It or Buy It” episodes.
Thanks Linda!!
I second the emotion, thanks ladies ❣️
Walmart sells Sola bread but I returned it due to its long list of scary ingredients
You guys are so cute. The yeast is eating it no us, killed me. Still smiling.
Soo, I have made some regular bagels. I think the bagel taste comes from boiling the bagels in water and baking soda before baking. Without it, even a real bagel wouldn’t taste like a “bagel”. Love your channel, you two make keto fun!
Ladies! I tried Lulu pasta for the 1st time this week. It’s the real deal. 4 net carbs per serving which is 2.5 ounces cooked. Texture, mouth feel, all just like real pasta. I grilled a piece of salmon & put Rao’s Alfredo sauce on it. To. Die. For.🤤
I’ll have to look that up! Thanks for the suggestion! -Em
I love Sola Bagels. I order them at least twice a year and keep them in the freezer. I just pull one out when I’m craving one. Which is usually once a week. 😉
I love the new series ladies, it's a great concept! Looking forward to more make it or buy it videos👏👏
Aww thank you!! -Em
Hi girls ! I tried these and put in the flax seed and I was surprised that they tasted just like real bagels. I said to my self I’m not making these again before I tasted them because they took so long to make. I have made the fat head dough ones before and thought they just were too cheesy. This was great. Keep up the good work girls. ❤
I haven’t found a keto + gluten-free bagel yet so I decided to try turning your chaffle recipe into something bagel-like. And it worked! I replaced the almond flour in your chaffle recipe with protein powder and this gives it a bread-like texture. I added a sprinkle of salt and Lakanto sweetener though because the protein powder lacks flavor. After Dashing them, I spread with cream cheese and jam. So good! And a pretty good bagel substitute.
Buying keto is the new norm but I like knowing what’s in my eats😀
I love this as a series. Please make tons of these. So useful!!
I really like the Sola bagels (as well as their Sweet & Buttery bread). It’s worth the price, IMO, to save myself some kitchen work and get a very tasty, very filling bagel. There are so many ways to enjoy them and such a wide variety of spreadable yummies (think ChocZero), sweet and savory.
Now I want a bagel.
Emily, your hair looks adorable like that.
So true~ loved it! Stole the show 👧
My daughter calls it "the fountain 'do", since she was little....now I have to go try it on myself, see if I can pull it off~I kind of doubt it =) But it looks great on you Emily!
*We found the SOLA bread/bagels & buns at our local discount store a couple months ago ~ they were in the freezer section, so I wasn't real hopeful. It was a happy surprise when they thawed & toasted up perfect~ so we keep them there, & take out one at a time. Awesome for garlic bread w/a steak too!
You can find the bread in a local store if you use find a store on the site
A friend of mine is a keto baker and she makes the most amazing creme brulee. I would love to learn how to make it instead of buying it from her. I've not looked up the recipe yet because I'm a visual learner and do so much better watching someone. FYI. I REALLY enjoy watching the two of you and your interactions. You are a blast to watch. Thanks for all the recipes, etc.
Yes! I would love to see more Make it or Buy it videos!! Great job! 👍🏻
I have been away from the internet and it was so nice to see you two when I signed back on! I enjoyed this and hope to see more of these make or buy comparisons. I missed you ladies! Thanks so much for another great video.
Thanks for watching Norma! 🤗
Love your make it or buy it videos! I would buy also as it seems like a lot of work to make. I like easy recipes that are not a lot of fuss.Thank you again for all your hard work on this video series! I look forward to each of your videos.
Can’t wait to watch more of these!
Bagels are my love language. Thanks for this! Excited to try.
Love this idea...and how you compare price/taste...please do more!!! Thank you for helping this newbie keto girl out!❤❤
This was a very interesting video. You two are fun to watch and very informative as well.
For me the preserves in store bought breads is a factor and our family avoids as much as possible.
Making the bagels at home is definitely what I will do as I love new recipes, and I also enjoy experimenting with different ingredients.
Also thank you for a new source for KETO recipes. We went Keto for my hubby. In just 7 weeks it has been terrific for his medical issues & weight issues. Keto has been something he can & will stick with.
Your channel & humor keeps me coming back for more! Keep up the good work.
Blessings from East TN!
❤️❤️❤️
Love, love, love this new series gals! I've been on recipe channels and blogs for years and see comments such as "This looks great" and "Want to make it!" But there is zero followup if they actually did make it! You are truly putting your money (and time) where your keto mouth is! Keep going and Keto On!
Thank you so much AnnMarie!!❤️❤️❤️
This is great! Thank you…..looking forward to all make it or buy it episodes.
Love the try it or buy it idea. Can’t wait to see more!
LOVE this style video! I do hope you'll make more!
not only like the taste comparison, but I really appreciate you crunching the numbers!
Loved this video, thank you! Would love to see more of these. Also, I thought you girls were pretty thorough and covered all imoportant info.
Really Loving this Series, Make It or Buy It!!! Thank you Ladies!!!
Thank you Sarah and Emily for the new series *"Buy it or Make it"*, it's fun to watch - keep them coming 😁😇☺️!!
But for me personally I would prefer to *"make it"* by myself just because I've all the ingredients at home and I love to make things on my own and taste it 👍👍👍!!!
Btw. I made already several recipes from *"@gnom gnom"* and they are all delicious and no failure!! 👍👍👍
🌞🌞🌞 greetings from Germany,
Ela 🤗
Fully agree with you! I too prefer to make stuff my self.
Hello Germany!
@@arbonneladyTN 👍👍👍, thank you so much 😊 and have a nice day 🌞🌞🌞
Had fun watching. I am glad I have never been a bagel person. I get to save $60.
Haha, that is a money saver! -Em
I think this is a great idea to compare making versus buying. I'm looking forward to more in the series.
I love all of the input so I can make an informed decision!
OOOOH thank you for doing this! This will be SUPER HELPFUL for me!
Carbquik works well for a mix and have most of ingredients already in it with exception of the yeast egg etc. .. I used to make my own and preheating oven to 100 for 15 min then shutting off and putting your bagels inside to rise from residual heat helps them a lot... Pull them out and uncover.. prepare a a salt water bath (hot not boiling..5 cups water to 1/2 teaspoon salt) while you Preheat your oven to temp required to bake but before baking Put them in a short salt water bath for about 15-20 seconds then back on your baking sheet helps them expand and get a crunchy crust outside and that chewy light texture you want inside. Brush with toppings and bake. I start with a hot 425 first 5 min then reduce to 375 or 350 depending on your oven to finish.. Love watching you guys you crack me up and give good tips and info.
Love this “Make It or Buy It” series! Keep ‘em coming!
Thank you Sandy!!
So those of us that already have all of those ingredients, it's even less! But guess what? Don't feel like doing all of that. Would definitely BUY. 👍
🤣🤣 love that sing it -Em
I LOVE bagels and have considered the Sola brand, but I know myself well, and just as with the low carb tortillas, I will eat them all within three days....or even in ONE day! I have such an issue with binge eating that it is safer for me to buy these types of things very rarely....but I might consider getting some. Thanks for testing this out (I'm too lazy to spend that much time baking so it would definitely be a purchase for me)
OK... Decades long experienced (non-keto) baker here... The honey is NOT needed to activate the yeast. Yeast will do it's own thing so skip the honey (it may take a few more minutes). Just use yeast with warm water and it will begin to activate. I promise! Also, to make the holes, press a dough ball into a patty and push your thumbs into the center stretching outward gently and rotating while you stretch. Personally, I would then blanch the raw bagels for a minute or two in a boiling water bath (or malt water bath) flipping once before placing on the baking sheet. This will give them the chewy texture you get from "real bagels" and give them a chance to rise slightly before baking. Then brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning before the final bake. You guys are the best!!! Keep doing what you do!
Thanks for the tips Matt!!
I really enjoyed this video. By you doing this comparison it was extremely helpful to me so that I do not feel bad if I were to order them. Sometimes you really have to think about your time and the mess that you would make involved in making a recipe. I look forward to seeing more of this type video.❤️❤️
🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for showing both - being wheat and gluten sensitve and allergic to soy, the Sola are out of the question for me, but I can see trying the other recipe. Your videos are so fun!
I like this new series!!!! Looking forward to seeing more!
Hello ladies! I just found your channel and love it! I’ve made bread before and have struggled with getting it to double in size during the first rise. I read that if you put a pan of boiled water in the bottom rack of an unheated oven and the dough on the top rack, it will rise much better. I tried it and it works great! Try that once and hopefully you’ll end up with bigger bagels! Take care!!
Love to watch you both! So enjoyable!
🤗🤗❤️
Love this format - Make it or Buy it. Great job ladies!
Thank you girls for sharing this recipe. I really appreciate your honest opinions. Both bagels look very good. Love you girls.
❤️❤️❤️ thanks Angie for always watching and supporting us! -Em
You both make me smile. 😀 Excellent video as always. ❤
Aww thank you! That makes us so happy!
Awesome idea! I definitely will be making gnom gnom, partly because I have most of the ingredients.
I really appreciate the "Make It or Buy It" video....great idea, VERY helpful!
Thanks Deborah!
Such a good and helpful concept, Make It or Buy It! I have to do clean diet because I’m in rough shape LOL, so I’d totally make rather than buy. I would order those bagels for my keto brother, though.
Also, both of you have such gorgeous hairdos in this video!
Excellent , as always!!!
Just ordered some of the bagels from Sola. I didn't know you could do that. I get the hamburger buns and bread at the grocery store. Excited to try something new from them! Thanks!!!
Enjoy this series, great idea. I haven't seen the Sola bagels, but their buns are great. I personally would buy also just because I wouldn't eat them but once in a while. I may just give the recipe a try though as I have the ingredients. I think adding some nutritional yeast would make it taste more savory too. Can't wait to see what you try next.
I love this new segment! Good job girls!
I absolutely love you guys. My new favorite channel and you have the best background music. So cute 💛
❤️❤️❤️ you are too kind Loretta, thank you!! -Em
I love this idea for a video series.
Really liked the "Make It or Buy It". Looking forward to many more!!
Thanks for watching Vicki!
I love your videos and you two do an amazing job!!!! Thank you!!!
Aww thanks so much Jody!!
You two are so adorable 🥰 I think these “Make It Or Buy It” videos will be fun - like a lot of your videos.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
When I heard the spoon crack, my heart sank, rip. I can't wait to try this recipe, thankyou😊
😭😭😭 (I still have to buy Sarah a new one lol) -Em
Years ago I was making some kind of bread using a spoon my grandmother had used for years. I kept using it in honor of her because she's now long gone. All of a sudden CRACK!!! My heart sank and I started to cry thinking of how many Christmas cakes (her favorite thing to bake) had been stirred with that spoon over the decades. Still makes me sad thinking about it.
Great video! Thank you! I found Sola bread at the Walmart Neighborhood Market. I didn't look for bagels, but I will next time. Thank you again! :D
I used to live at sea level in the Pacific NW and loved to bake bread so would have made these but now I live at a much higher altitude in the Intermountain West and can't get any baked goods to come out right to save my life...so, I am buying these! Great idea for a series!
Loved this video. Would encourage you to make more videos like this. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping others. 💕
Thanks so much Bev!! -Em
Omg. You look so good with your hair pulled back. I can’t wait to check this recipe 🥰
Great idea for a new series. Thanks
Thanks for watching Kim!
I made low carb bagels last year from a recipe by I Don't Sugar-coat (who also has a yt channel) she had the Instruction of boiling them before you baked them and they were SOOOOO good!!!
We will have to try that next! -Em
I love her bagels! I make her cinnamon ones all the time. I also make her bread and add 2 TB of the Everything seasoning and have a bagel loaf. These are the real thing. Bagels are supposed to be chewy.
I love to bake so I will be making the recipe. Thank you!! I love bagels 💖.
GREAT IDEA ! Can’t wait to see what you come up with ! I’ll think and look and think of something you could make and compare!
🤗🤗 thanks so much Debra! -Em
I love the new video ideas!! Fantastic!! Love u guys! I wish u had a video every day!! Keep up the awesome work!
Aww thanks Lisa 🤗🤗
So glad I ran into this video today while surfing UA-cam. I've tried a couple different brand of store bought bagels, and have settled on buying Sola the last couple of times. If you have a Safeway store near you, then check them out. That's where I've found them regularly (along with hot dog buns, hamburger buns, and loaf bread).
I'm generally happy with them. But, they don't toast perfectly so was interested in looking for a recipe to try. But, after watching this I'll probably stick with Sola for now. These days I factor in the "is it time worth spent" rule, and based on what I saw in this video, the answer is no.
Thanks again ladies!
Thanks so much Robert!
I have missed breads so much! I will have to try this recipe! I'm on an anti inflammatory diet which has ketogenic properties but also means not having some additional foods. These will be a good fit!
Great idea for a series - definitely looking forward to more 😋
Thanks so much Penny!! -Em
I'd love to see more make it or buy it videos. I love the convenience items especially when I go on vacation, I just eat them sparingly.
♡ What a great series idea!!! Fun.
I gotta try this , thank you I've missed bagels 🥯!! Yummy 😋
I can't eat sugar alcohols, which makes me so sad, I get real sick the next day. So homemade is going to be my choice, thank you for this.
Thanks for this type of video. Very interesting
Love the 'make it or buy it' format! I'll have to give some thought to foods to suggest.
Hi Ladies, I just saw this video and I love you two! I also live in the Chicago area and Meijers grocery have had the Sola products for a while now- just fyi. They also run them on sale at buy 1 and get 50% off second 1. Again, I really do enjoy your channel☺️
Yes! We just saw them! Yay!
Great content, really enjoyed this one!!
I love this content format
Awesome 👌 👏 I love bagels 🥯 ❤️
Thanks! My husband and I tried Sola bread 🍞 bought it at Aldis ... but we threw it away because we were so unimpressed!! 🤪 Will have to give this recipe a try.
Hi ladies, good video. I use Sola bread (2 net carbs per slice) to make bread crumbs. I use them in my meatloaf, fried cheese sticks, fried shrimp, etc... I also found a 0-carb street taco tortilla and a 0-carb bagel. Thinslimfood bagels have 0 carbs but don't toast them, they get hard as rocks. La Banderita Carb Counter tortillas found them at Walmart.
I really like this series 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was fun to see!
What about cake mixes or pancake mixes, like Birch Benders, vs. Homemade?
I like that idea! Thanks Kristi 🤗🤗-Em
Yes, please! I’m new to keto (or low carb, I’m not sure the difference tbh), and would really like to see a video with these mixes!
That was fun!!
Thanks, ladies! I’ve found, with bread products, buying is more satisfying.
Love the idea of this series! You used nuti lite to make the brownies in a recent video, but there are a lot of homemade keto Nutella recipes out there. Maybe you could try to make one of those for this series.
Loved your video! I have sola bagels in my freezer at all times. I recently tried a new brand from Royo bread company. They are more of a NY style bagel and they are delicious. I got the sesame ones and everything ones and both are very good, but I like the sesame better.
I buy Unbun Everything bagels at my local Whole Foods or grocery store. They're $9.99 for approx 4 bagels but that is how many I eat in a year. Also half is plenty because they are bog and full of fiber,
I think your "taster" bagel is a good size especially if people will be adding meats or cheese or avocado.
I started my KETO bagel journey with Unbun a few months ago. Absolutely terrible!! The Sola are light years ahead of them in consistency and flavor.
Good jobs, twins!! What a fun video!!
Very helpful! Thanks 😇 I would buy!
I'd buy the Soma bagels but they raise my blood sugar significantly as does the aldi bread and buns.. For people just trying to loose the Keto way they are probably fine. thanks for trying these things out and sharing the results.
try Schmidt old tyme 647 italian bread. Legit tastes like D’Italiano. It’s not bad on my BS
@@marinaridley4186 thanks Marina. I'll give it a try.
@@marinaridley4186 Unless you're in VA, PA, and parts of New York state, you're probably out of luck. I looked on their website, and that seems to be where the store locator says their retailers are located.
Loving the make it or buy it series!!!
Please do a tortilla version!
I have a fav from keto rewind amazing that for your hard work so we don't have to greetings from NC
Thank you for the video....😊
"Its alive~ yeah, so we dont have to start over." you two are so cute. I love your 'show' for a good laugh. And YES I am gonna try this. thanks ladies. God bless your channel, Luv from Mpls. ~Gg
Ask: would you try making chia- raspberry jelly? If Im-a-gonna have bagles I do mine with PB&J.
Oh, NOW I get what you mean when you say you aim for eating clean 70% of the time. I wasn’t sure what the other 30% consisted of. Thanks for a great video!
Yes! I wonder this about all sorts of things. One of them is hot cereal. (And yes, I feel like something of a freak that one of the things I miss the absolute most is **oatmeal**! WTH?!) Anyway, premade keto hot cereals are stupid expensive. I made my own, and it's... ~okay. I'll mess with it. Anyway, I don't expect you two to do a MIOBI with hot cereal because, seriously, I'm probably a one-off, but the series sounds great!
I think a lot of people miss oatmeal! It’s a good idea! Might have to do some research :) -Em
It's not just you. I crave oatmeal ALL the time and the funny thing is that pre-Keto, I probably only ate once a month. I have had fake oatmeal (hemp, ground flaxseed and chia) and it doesn't work. Oatmeal is one thing that I can't find a suitable replacement :(
I love oatmeal, cornmeal, cream of wheat and farina. They just don’t love me :(
@@WendyKCraftSite Hurray, kindred spirit! It's a density issue, yeah? My current mix has almond flour, lupin flour, flax meal, chia seeds and hemp hearts. Today I added some roasted, chopped almonds that gave it a bit of "tooth". I think I'm going to swap ground lupini beans for the lupin flour in the mix I'm working on. Let me know if you have ideas/suggestions. 🙂
@@bricknercj maybe i'll try adding one of the flours you mentioned.
Yup, this make it or buy it idea is good!
❤️Thank you ❤️
I believe that bagels are traditionally boiled in water before they are baked. That may be part of the difference. Also, the bagels might not have risen enough, though the crumb looks fine.
My own pre-keto pizza dough recipe techniques:
1. feed the yeast with half water and half either tomato juice, or V8 and
2. let that sit for a very generous hour before adding the dry ingredients.
It used to make an incredibly delicious crust. I'm suggesting this to Gnom Gnom, but feel free to experiment. BTW, I have both twin brothers and nephews from an un-twin sister, so they don't always skip generations, though Grandma's twin died at birth, and G had no twins. (Sounds like good data for a math story-problem.)
You could take the make it recipe and just make four instead of eight for larger bagels and they would still be less net carbs than the Sola ones, which have soy so I avoid Sola products. Thanks for trying this recipe out; going to give it a try.
