*$250*
Stopped the video and left 😂
nope. 250 for sync box plus 4 to 6 lights so about another 400 lol
Especially if it won’t work with apps on a smart tv. Screw that lol.
Saru EMS Education try the govee led camera, I got that, it’s not as good as the sync box but for 70 dollars it gets the job done. Just watch a few videos on it
God damn...so amazing looking, but that’s a big investment once you include lights, hub, and a smart box to supplant your TV’s built-in apps. I have a PS4 but I’d be leaning toward buying an Apple TV.
So that’s, what. Like, a million dollars?
💀💀
They just updated the app adding dolby vision, hdr10+, remote control support and voice command (in beta). Set up progress was very straight forward and the functionality works very well
That's awesome! I'll be trying it out tonight, but I'm glad it worked well for you.
*UPDATE:* Hue Sync Box just got a great update. There's now support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, voice control, and IR remote control. I just installed the update, it was really easy and I'm loving it!
Thanks for watching! Do you guys have any favorite things to watch with dynamic TV lighting?
Animated films with blocky colours look best. A bit like the game you showcased. I've also been watching some horror films and jump scares are more intense when the room reacts too..
@@iamhallsey oh I didn't think of horror films! That would be intense.
I use the hue sync app on my computer in my room its cool for music however its not great for the color sync.
EDM shows late a night truly show off a great setup. The whole immersion draws you in like you were there. Perfect for chilling with your crew. Also literally any Marvel movie ever!
Tron Legacy
hey where did you get those black bucket light fixtures. would be really helpful.
Ok I have a few questions first how do you set up the lights with the Hue box and also is the Hue box and also is the lights all you need just connect the HDMI to the TV to the hue box and then connect the lights also to the hue box and that’s it or is there is there more to it someone please reply thank you. and Yes I know that you need an app.
What kind of floor lamps are those? I tried searching for spotlights but found nothing.
Yes I want to know too!
They are at Walmart: www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-7-5-Spotlight-Accent-Lamp-Black-Finish/21881768 or on Amazon: amzn.to/2z64RLs
My Philips TV does this out of the box! I wish I could take a picture.
I find it good in "FAST GAME" like mario xD
Yes I love it for video games and especially Mario!
I was so distracted that I forgot to watch the video
Lol same

I’m just waiting for Dolby Atmos/Vision support now. And maybe Amazon discount too.
Dolby vision support was updated today
@@Burry83 I was holding out, just dipped yesterday!
There is a way to retain/keep Atmos, however I think it requires/restricts you to only have 1 (one) connection to the sync box. I recently bought myself a Sync box to enhance my AppleTV experience but certainly didn't want to lose the Atmos sound, and it does work. The trick is that the Sync box must be set to "Enable ARC pass through), so I have my ATV connected to my soundbar; then the soundbars ARC output goes to the Sync Box (must be in HDMI 2 or 4 I believe); and finally the Sync Box HDMI ARC goes to my TV's HDMI ARC port. Ohh, and Dolby Vision must also be enabled in the Sync App.
But then it works perfectly, I now have nice light sync and perfect Atmos.
I think it is possible to "cheat" the "only one connection" in the setup I have, as long as I do it by plugging additional sources in the soundbar and thus the Sync bar still only is used in one port.
finally 5.1 surround light systems.
thats sick, enjoy!
When you buy a lightship and a play-bar and put it behind your tv. Then you see the sync box and you're like "sick, how much?" Phillips hue "Its only 250 dollars" Me: "25 dollars?" Hue: "No, 250!" Me: "250!!!!!!, heck no.
apps on my smart tv won't work --- oh my God that's good to know! that is a deal breaker
tip.
you can adjust each individual lamp in the hue app, not the sync app. if done so, the sync app and hue box will use those settings.
also use the sync app is basicly only for adjusting some levels of intensity, after that you can save your settings in the app and refresh your syncbox app in google home, and controll everything with you voice. even switch hdmi ports by name, change intensity by voice, hell even rename your syncbox.
step one, always set things in the hue apps, then return to google home and refresh the hue app.
Why is this not a top comment
Hi Can you also control the same with Alexa ?
I’ve been watching this product since release...hoping for a sale of some kind 🤞😂
🤞Maybe for Prime Day there will be sale, who knows!
Black friday deal?
A secret, if you buy an android tv or a android tv box you could run hue essential and not have to buy the sun box
@@ricardoangelsantiago4978 have you seen videos of this?
@@doshiempiresandpuzzles8822 just download philips hue on Google tv store, it's hard to find a video but look up hue essentials, android tv
I’m afraid to buy this because it doesn’t support hdmi 2.1
As much as I would love to have light sync while I'm playing on my PS4, I will be waiting for the one that has 2.1 and maybe a cheaper price. I dont understand how they didnt go for 2.1 from the start. I plan to buy a PS5 and it would suck to downgrade it's performance because of this.
I hope we see synced customizable backlighting coming standard on TVs pretty soon.
It does on the phikips ambilight tvs
Me: *Does not own a Hue Sync Boc*
Also me: still watches this video and gets amazed
Right so just the strips will be enough you think?
Same
watching others spend money they probably dont have is fun too^^
imagine watching endgame with those lights with 3D glasses tv and some sort of 4D chair that syncs up movement with the movie
That would be pretty intense!
Imagine watching Infinity War and when Thanos snaps it actually straight up kills you
@@ghost.patrols I dont feel so good mr stark
I need this for when Cyberpunk 2077 releases, alllll that neeeeeon! 🤤🤤
@Ur Below Average Gamer fr man Dan the game is horrible..
On the philips hue subreddit I saw someone have 10 play bars behind their tv and it looked cool but a bit overkill
Maybe if it's a 85" TV might work but for anything under 55" is way too much light.
I’ve got 9 lol
I bought the sync box two weeks ago and thought I had it set up right. I was wrong. Copied this set up and its on another level. So much so that I had to go for the light strip option as well as the two play behind the TV. Excellent video thanks so much
Thanks Mark!
I can't seem to get the app past the, "press the button and wait till it turns green". Which I do and it doesn't change
Hello, I want to start by saying that I really enjoy your videos. I got a Philips TV 55PUS7304 with Ambilight for like 500 USD (4K android 9 TV and other nice specs) and it can connect to my Philips Hue system. My setup is made from 3 Hue color bulbs, 2 Hue Blooms and the 3 sided ambient light from the TV. All the friends that came to us loved the system and the lights. In my opinion the atmosphere it creates is better than any other TV setup.
Thanks Andrei! I'm jealous of your Ambilight TV and that's great to hear you're enjoying it! I hope I can get one some day.
This is actually amazing
Fortunately we don’t have this “experience” in cinema.
With those big screens that is really unnecesary, it's only cool if it's at home
I like having my play bars on the back of my tv facing the wall vs facing the side
Great video Reed! +1 for Hyperion: RGB LED strips + Rpi + HDMI -> USB < $80 = Awesome
Awesome video. I have the bar lights and 2 hue bulbs. Love it. One day I’ll pick up the sync box.
I appreciate it! Oh that's great it's a lot of fun!
I never saw the appeal for this, but then again, each to their own.
This is the silliest tech I've ever seen wtf
I find this completely useless tbh... I don't want any lights on when watching movies, just complete darkness.
Czar Me too. I hate any annoying rgb shitty light in my pc, mouse, tv etc. I switch all of them immediately.
I want this so badly but *my goodness* it's expensive
Im definitely putting this on my gaming rig.
Corsair iCue strips is what I have. It does work nicely in the corsair echo system if you're into that.
David Krahl will one strip light change multiple colors on each side of the tv or do I need multiple lights?
@@jabbernation947 Multiple lights but it depends on the strip and program used. Also want to note that there is a desktop app for Hue lights so there is no need to buy the Philips Hue Play for your computer screen, only for TV
It’s all fun and games until you get flashed on COD
My favorite thing is watching concerts and music videos in Intense video mode and the "Use audio for effect" turned on. I use multiple bulbs in fixtures around my living room for this and turns it into a club! For movies and tv shows I've just used the lights behind the tv, but found them distracting. I might try lowering the brightness to see if I like that better. Thanks for the tip!
Can you sync up Phillips led strips around the TV for better color bleed-through/ multi edge colors?
Can I ask? Is it better to face the light bars facing the sides as you have? Or is facing the wall ok? Depending on your answer I might have to switch them for best output 😃
Good vid, my Phillips tv already has ambilight built into it. Personally I think it looks worse with just 2 lights on the tv, needs to be continuous strip of zoned leds around the screen
I agree that having ambilight would be better than a couple of play bars. There's just no options in the US right now or I would get it for sure.
@@SmartHomeSolver Could also just use the Philips hue lightstrips around the back of the TV, works perfectly to achieve a similar effect to ambilight
Johni Simonsen doubt it, if for example u have a small bit of colour at the top of the screen it’ll completely stop the top corners from blending the light from screen to wall imo.
Love your videos. Just bought my first RGB strip and Hue hub. Can't find the bulbs you recommended though yet.
I wish LIFX had a way of doing this
Yes, this would be great with LIFX! Maybe they will make their own someday.
So am I understanding correctly that this won't work for a movie I might play from Netflix, Prime Video or any other app on my Samsung TV? Would it have to be a gaming system or blueray player?
Build your own hue sync entertainment
This is your daily dose of Recommendation
Imagine playing CSGO and got flashed on that TV
Hi Reed, does this sync box require Philips Hue Bridge to operate?
Is there a way so all the tv apps will work with the lights?
If they are on the tv they won’t work... if you have them on a nivida shield or fire stick they will likely work depending on what the app is
Is that a publicly available video with the chrome ball in the middle casting light off to the sides? that would be great to test this device with.
I found the box way too buggy when it came out, it's been unplugged and collecting dust since then, but this video makes me want to give it another try
Yeah it is. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/2J7xlDH4QkA/v-deo.html There was some other videos on UA-cam that were fun to test out on as well.
$250 + hue lights
....or DIY it for like $150 all in and get a raspberry pi in the process.
Buy the following:
ws2812b LED strip, 60 led/M, 16ft strand should be good for 55-65 tvs" (~$30)
esp8266 NodeMCU microcontroller (~$6)
5v/15-30amp power supply (~$20-30)
Raspberry Pi 4 ($60, you could probably get an older one for cheaper and save $$)
HDMI Video grabber (~$15)
HDMI Splitter (~$30-50)
Software:
WLED for esp8266
Hyperion.ng on Raspberry Pi 4
There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to do this, and technically you can use a spare computer running linux instead of Raspberry Pi, so you could take $60 out of the budget if needbe. Edge to edge coverage instead of two lights on the side of the tv that you'll get with Hue.
Couldnt stand the hue sync boxes, too much faff to setup. If someone seriously wants it then they should look at Philips Ambilight TVs, the lights are integrated in the TV and doesnt require an app or any setup. I have a 65" Philips Ambilight TV, its so good and much better than these boxes as its all around the tv instead of just the sides.
I just saw this and know it is older but did you add the Gradient Light Strip to behind the TV? I use the Sync Box, 65" Gradient Light Strip, 5 Play's and 4 BR30 downlight. I have 1 play behind TV on bottom as lightstrip does not cover that, 2 plays on each side, 2 downlight in front and 2 downlight behind. The experience I get when watching a movie is fantastic. I am not a gamer but when my kids come over they really enjoy the lighting effects. Keep up the great work
Better buy a philips tv with ambilight for true experience ....250 euros wtf for 500 yo have a 50 inch tv with 3 side ambilight
You pay 250 for 10 cm led strips no way.....
I have 3 tvs at home with ambilight
Ambiligh rulz i will never go back to normal tvs....
New sub here, just now getting into smart home stuff and I have to say.. I really like your videos. I don't know if its the way you talk or that you provide the information I'm looking for, but I will be an avid watcher. Keep up the good work, and thank you.
So the sync pc app might contain hell of viruses but I installed anyway.
Actually worked nice with my pc I watched Mulan (2020) with video sync enabled and it worked through out the movie. Fast forward not even a day later watched a movie on Netflix (nothing) then watched a movie on Amazon (nothing). Seems Disney so far is the only service that syncs with hue (video) wise.
Any other suggestions or opinions? Thanks
Only problems with this sync box, buy not this.
Firmware update there and many problems beginning with your Router (fail connect to the WPA key)
Sorry but this is true.
So for my soundbar it has eARC, 2 extra HDMI parts so it acts like a receiver in a way. Where do I plug my soundbar in? It’s correctly on the tv right now.
That's way too much man the ceiling does not have to light up . Around the TV only and you get the Dolby Atmos feeling also if you had don't be Atmos receiver in that room that would help . But the other lights is too much . I would maybe do a light underneath the couch that was like red like a theater would have.
You are being outsmarted by smart bulbs if you buy the ridiculously overpriced products being sold by Philips Hue! And now another $230 just for the sync box. This is insulting to people's intelligence as they can buy premium smart bulbs from a competitor of equal quality for nearly half Phillipe prices. Or save even more by sacrificing a few features and a little bit of rightness unless fancy marketing and put still get a product that functions fine considering the function of a light bulb in a smart home.
$50 for one bulb is insane.it's a light bulb. There is nothing smart about Philips hue it's just wrong the only reason they can do this is because they used to be the only option available for anyone wanting to buy premium smart bulbs. But in the last two or three years specifically the last 12 to 18 months a lot of decent competitors have come on to the market with equivalent quality products.

Time to replace that tall shelf by the TV with a shorter one. It reflects a lot of light.
For sure. My set up is always a work in progress and I've had that shelf for awhile. Moving it would definitely help with reflections of the light.
I have a question would a light strip be better in the back of the TV or would 2 bars would be suffice on the back of the TV..
Hi, nice video. I have a question. If I want to watch TV or a movie and I just want my lights to stay on "cool white" and not change colors while watching, is that possible with the sync box connected? Sometimes I want the lights synced with what happening on screen and sometimes I don't want them to and just want to leave them on a normal light setting. Does it work like that?
I hate that Philip hues are over priced now my hue bridge v1 isn’t working with my lights or with the internet. I have to buy a hue bridge v2 and it’s $60 just for the bridge.
Stupid expensive just for the box then you have to get the lights as well? Add on it can't work with smart tv apps? I have 2 hue living colours that control off 1 controller and I'll stick with that.
Ths sync box SUCKS MAN, THE AMBILIGHT TV OF PHILIPS IS SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE STRIP IF HAVE IT FOR MY SELF WHITH PIHILIPS HEU LIGHTS
So do u you recomend to to get 2 Play bars ligjts on side of a 75 inch tv instead of the gradient strip lights? The only thing holding me back on buying them is the distracting factor that people have been comenting:( great video
I think it good looks good around a television but I don't think it looks good around the media cabinet below it . Cuz then it looks like where the sound is coming from the light is going to but when it go when you have lights below the television it gets rid of that effect and looks bad .
I have the Philips ambient light TV. The same thing built-in. Your tv is too close to the wall, the best distance is about 20cm.
I JUST bought the sync box! And the freaking apps won't work?!
$200!!!?? I thought it was gonna be like $30. Hahaha. Absolute rip-off.
I have the sync box and the 55 inch gradient lightbstrip in my setup soon will ge adding 2 philips hue go light on my bedside cabinets
Then soon after a samsung dolby atmos soundbar
What do you have your philips hue bulbs enclosed in on the ground? They look Iike light cannons lol. I cant find them anywhere.
How can your led just go dark when part of the screen is black? Mine just goes blue, and it's a bit annoying
$250 for lights?? 🤣 🤣 🤣
I'll see myself out.
Hingle McCringleberry it’s not $250 for lights, it’s a box that controls them, you have to buy the lights you want controlled and you also you’ll need a hub that connects it all together, unless you already have a Philips hue set up your going to be a lot more that $250...
is it possible to connect my hue sync box to the ambilight already included on my tv? thank you.
Any smart lights supported by hue sync or Philips bridge other than Philips lights?
So if you have the apps on your Xbox series x, would it still work
my wallet's gonna hate it, but damn that does look like its worth it
For those who don't want to spend more than 500$ for the whole Philip's Hue Ambilight system...theres is a set called Govee Immersion which basically works with a camera and has a similar Ambilight effect but is not bound to any HDMI cables which means everything playing on your TV (UA-cam, movies, games) can be lit up with individual colors on each sides...it's definitely worth trying it out as it's pretty easy to install....
what’s the price and what’s it called? i want to get it for a 43” tv , there’s so many different named Govee lights i don’t know which to choose
@@karlosrubio6767 I think it only works on 55 inch TVs and bigger. It's called Govee Immersion.
Why won't it work if I use Netflix through the TV or via chromecast?
Does this work with Hue light strips?
Yes
Damn doesn’t work with smart tv app. I don’t have tv anymore everything i do on the tv uses the smart tv apps
so you're telling me that it's not gunna connect to my samsung tv apps ? so if i watch hulu on my smart tv it's nit gunna work?
Does it work with ps5 in 4k120 because of the hdmi 2.1?
Here's a set up I've been optimizing: ua-cam.com/video/EJjro-_QH4c/v-deo.html
Does the gradient light strip with sync box with a black wall can do the job too ?
I was interested until you said $200+. Way too much money.
Mine just says syncing to my Xbox but never syncs. Have any suggestions?
Imagine a flash bang on bo2 in a dark room. Be like you really got flash banged
They should put this in theaters.
Is your light strip a gradient light strip or a just a regular hue Phillips light strip?
This is not smart if it doesn't work with a smart TV - I know why but it is still not smart XD
I’m doing this :D ! You’re a legend! Thank you!!
Good luck!
Make a video on radiation around the home and is it safe
Apinan Yogaratnam what do you mean by that
I'll write that down. I think there are things like this that people might worry about and I could help explain. Thanks!
What is the radiation around the home?
My tv is so flat and close to the wall I wouldn’t be able to fit Hue lights behind it. First world problems, I guess...
Hi I'm trying to set one up for my ps4 but looking for light strip is this possible
Light should be going all around the tv.
Tv is too small mounted too high…
Won’t work with tv apps? Why would I get this then?
I know what I’m getting with my stimulus check...
HDMI 2.1 comp? PS5 setup plz?
Do you think it would be better if you connect the box to Philips led strip lights than the light boxes? Can u link it to the led strips?
So if I want to sync a computer I don’t need the sync box?
I am using Philips Ambilight + Hue
Update has come out to support dolby vision at 4k
