    is it possible to use the hue play compact gradient (the light tube) just for normal ambient room lighting without using modes like music or movies (the room has no tv in it) ?

    • @TechUpChannel
      @TechUpChannel  Рік тому +1

      Yes it’s possible. There is also a cheaper version of the light strip that does the same just doesn’t mount to the back of a TV.

    I got the Hue Box and Play Strip too, but I can't bring myself to install it. lol All my TVs have Lifx strips around the entire TV, and they work perfectly with my Logitech Harmony. I feel like I shouldn't fix something that isn't broken. But I guess that's all a part of being a tech reviewer. I think the solution is going to be that I have to buy a new TV somewhere in the house, lol

      BTW: why didnt you put your play bars on the bottom of the tv rather than towards the side?

    • @TechUpChannel
      @TechUpChannel  Рік тому

      I’ve been holding off on a gradient bar for the bottom. But now the Nanoleaf option seems very appealing

    does it or doesn't it have 2.1 hdmi with 120hz?

    • @TechUpChannel
      @TechUpChannel  Рік тому

      No, it works with 2.0 and 120hz capped at 1440p. Just make sure to update when you get one as it needs to be a recent update to work. 4k Dolby Vision works at 60hz

    • @olivio88
      @olivio88 Рік тому +2

      No, it doesn’t. Sync Box supports only 2.0 HDMI and can stream 120Hz but only up to 1440p. Real 4K can be streamed only in 60Hz. It’s official data from Philips Hue Sync Box website.

      Thank you, I got my information wrong and have corrected the original response. Got mixed up with the information based on a future hardware update... vs software update

    MAJOR FLAW in video..... this needs editing!
    The Sync Box doesn't pair well with the latest consoles as it doesn't support HDMI 2.1. So no 120hz as its limited with the 2.0 HDMI port no 4k and lossless Dolby atmos Just buyers beware, this is outdated and not future proof at all. its value it extremely poor due to not supporting todays standards

      The Hue Sync box works with 4K 60hz and 1440p 120hz and also works with Dolby atoms. I filmed this video and some content is shown via a PS5 in our home. The sync box didn't originally ship with this support but not longer after release it did release the update for support for HDMI 2.0b with HDCP 2.2. If you are unable to use the above features I would recommend getting in touch with Philips Hue support or checking your setup again.

      @@TechUpChannel but you said it supports 4k 120hz which it does not at all. You cannot upgrade a hdmi standard with a firmware update...... What your suggesting is like upgrading a 8800gtx to a 3080 and Ray racing it doesn't work. The firmware itself unlocked diffrent modes of the chip nothing more, they were there as standard but not enabled.
      Dolby atmos does not work on lossless but via dolby HD 7.1 and is classed as compressed or lossy. It's dolby atmos and you will get the logo but with less channels....
      HDCP is a anti privacy handshake on the hdmi standard which has nothing to do with the picture or audio.
      All of this you should know if your talking about tech. A little Google time and tech knowledge about what your reading on the internet would do you some good and your viewers.
      Who buys a latest console to limit their fps or resolution based on an outdated product line from Philips.
      It's fine for watching TV I guess but with compressed dolby atmos, that's the best you will get from this.
      To clarify this is a hdmi 2.0 port and internal hdmi chip this is not a hdmi 2.1 and never will be.

      Yes, apologies about not separating and missing the point for 120hz at 1440p and 40 60hz. I do try to aim my videos for the average consumer and this channel isn't dedicated to having the perfect home cinema.
      As for Anyone with a consumer accessible level TV setup or & sound system compressed wouldn't make to much difference anyways as is any "Dolby Atmos" home setup true Dolby Atmos since its not properly calibrated to Dolby Atmos standard?
      Again most people will just connect their PS5 to standard 4K TV with 60HZ, Unless you're a dedicated enthusiast or gamer people won't really look that deep into it.
      As this is a smart home channel, I try to educate in the simplest terms so everyone has an understanding. Yes I agree, the sync box was outdated before it even shipped. But it's a device for smart home & home theatre enthusiast alike to enhance their viewing experience with light. It's a clean minimal setup that just works. And to just work out the box and integrate with the rest of your hue system in minuets is something others haven't been able to replicate.

      Thank you, you just saved me a lot of time and money. I agree with your comments wholeheartedly. Unfortunately the purpose of this video (in explaining Hue sync to the average Joe) only muddys the water. It’s taken me a short while to dig out the actual qualities of this product and selfishly I wish content producers had spent as much time on their facts as you have, versus making an aesthetic video demo. Cheers.
