  • Quick comparison between my lights and my friends lights. Not exactly apples to apples but close enough to give you an idea of how these lights perform so you can buy the right lights for your needs and budget.
    Tacoma:
    40" BD ONX6+ Combo/White
30" BD S8 Combo/Amber (Center section lens replaced with wide cornering lens for more flood and less spot)
    (2x) BD XL80 Combo/White
(4x) BD S1 on roof rack(not shown in video)
Diode Dynamics SS3 Max SAE Fog/Yellow
    35w 4300k HID headlights
    Jeep:
    50" KC Pro6 Combo/White
    (2x) Rigid D-XL Driving/White
    Stock LED headlights and fogs

Personally I thought the BD light bar was superior. The KC might still have a further throw but the BD light bar has it all, if that's all I bought and installed I would be happy with that complimenting the other stock lights. Thanks for taking the time to show us a real life comparison!

Wow what a cool comparison! Thanks for making this, sorry it took us a year to find it!

Awesome video man. Can't believe it took this long for someone to upload a comparison. There's hardly any videos on the 40in Onx6 period.

I am thinking about getting an Onx6+ in the 30 inch combo. Your 40 inch looks INSANE. If the 30 inch is even close to that, it's going to be a wonderful improvement over my current bar.

KC light bar is superior to the BD one. I mean, the Onyx is great, but I like more control on my aiming and less power draw.
I have to stop buying cheap lights and save for a KC hilites Gravity pro 6 lightbar, some baja designs spot cubes and rigid ditch lights.
I like my trucks to look not so over the top, so I mount my primary auxiliary lights behind the grille. But ditch lights and over head lights are harder to hide, so those are the obvious ones I clearly mount visible to everybody.
For me, a perfect setup is made in 4 levels: fog or bumper line, headlight line, A pilar line and overhead line.
In the bumper, I like 4 fog pods to have the inside pair towards the front and the outside pair to the outside lines of the road. Then, I like my headlights upgraded and the highbeams complemented by behind the grille spots. On the A pilars I like to run a 3" pod with a slightly diffused spot pattern facing slightly outwards and a little 2" pod with a flood pattern facing absoluteli the ditches near me.
Finally, over the head, I would love to rock a KC lightbar with 2 driving or wide 40 lights on the outside and the rest being a spot and making the outside ones face slightly outwards.
    That is my project.
I also want other lights like rock lights, camping lights, a couple of spots facing back to flash morons that get too close to my bumper and a pair of high mounted and low mounted chase light for visibility (one center high and one center low).
Can anybody tell I might be a little affraid of the dark? LOL. Not really, just a light and performance addict

Cool video. The BD light at draws 346 watts on high, while the KC only draws 160 watts. Huge difference. It’s not even a close comparison.. but what’s interesting is that the KC’s can hold their own! actually looks surprisingly good for a 160w light bar.

Definitely agreed, the KC's have significantly higher efficiency and control the light much better so they don't need as much power where as BD just brute forces more uncontrolled light with more LED's at the cost of efficiency. I will say that the KC is much much worse in regards to wind noise though, the Jeep is a soft top and the air turbulence it causes literally beats on the soft top like a drum. Not sure how it would be on a hard top but you can't deny that it'll produce much louder wind noise than the BD or equivalent shape light bar.

@@square1bmxrider yeah man. Good observation! I really want the KC light bar for my class 11 bug. It just looks so bad ass! Hands down the best looking bar (IMO). and it also has the lowest power consumption… for a bug that’s super important. But damn, the price is out of control. Over $2000 for the 39” bar and two front mounted lights. I don’t see the reasoning behind it. It’s not exactly lightweight either…. Sucks, Just can’t do it. :(

@@desert4seat No doubt about it, definitely the best looking light bar in the industry, the light to power ratio is one of the best as well. I'm not familiar with bugs too much, I'm guessing they have low output alternators or just cant support huge electrical draws? Yea, the pricing on these is insane, KC makes a roof rack designed specifically with the 50" bar for the Tacoma's but they're about $3000, I was able to get my Prinsu roof rack, 40" and 30" BD light bars for less than that! Unfortunately, their price puts them out of a lot of people's hands(including me), I too couldn't justify them when I could get more with less money.

I agree! Was neat seeing what our 160 watt bar can do!

@@square1bmxrider My personal experience with lights bars and wind is, most light bars that are that slim design have more of a whistle, especially when mounted very high above the roof, the Pro6 will have less of a whistle and you're right, more of a bumping sound, most mounts, like ours, will mount the light bar as low as possible this will always create less wind drag and overall give you a better experience! But end of the day, you put something above your windshield, you'll hear it!

How does the s8 compare to the onx6 in your opinion?

    • @square1bmxrider
      @square1bmxrider  3 місяці тому +1

Honestly, its almost exactly the same but just scaled down in size and light output. The beam pattern for the combo lens is pretty much the same, a central hotspot with lots of flood. The S8 didn't seem to throw as far but that could be due to the amber color or that fact that it was mounted on my bumper vs on the roof. I did change out the center section of the S8 to wide corning lens to give me more flood since I was only using it for dusty/poor conditions.

Both are great and you can't go wrong with either but the first lights I purchased were the BD XL80's so I stuck with BD so all my lights match lol

Both looks terrible lighting. I just don’t understand how these US brands are so expensive with their crappy lighting. Checkout the STEDI ST3303 pro light bar from Australia. It has a better beam pattern and brightness over these two combined with all of their lights on and 10x cheaper.
