Good comparison. I recently upgraded my fog lights to plug-n-play Baja Designs and went to the yellow lenses. I absolutely love them and have made a huge difference at night and inclement weather here in the PNW. They too were DOT approved.
Baja Designs makes a great light.
I am thinking of doing a white vs amber light shootout video.
Amber is great for inclement weather. It would be cool to see the difference side by side.
I run the Rigids and absolutely love them.

Great video and very informative. UA-cam needs more videos like this in 2020. FYI those Baja Design lights are not SAE compliant. They got caught and had to pull them from the shelf, or rebrand them as Offroad Only. It was a big thing on the Forums. I use the RIGID Selective Yellow on my truck and I prefer them over the Baja. The spread and focus of the RIGID SAE in my opinion is the best option out there for SAE. In order to be SAE compliant the beam needs to be 4 degree's in height with a straight cut off (so that it doesn't lift and blind on coming traffic). It also needs to be 60 degrees wide with a cut off as well. Anything over that is not compliant and is considered Offroad use only.
Thank you for the kind words! I contacted Baja Designs today and they are sending me new lenses that fix the problem. Once I receive them I will make another video showing how they were to replace and re-test them again with the light meter.

First and foremost, great video!! Only issue here is that Baja Design's version is not street legal. They have issued a retracting statement and have gone back to modify the unit to comply with SAE/DOT. I don't know the current status of that, but I do know for a fact that the units you showcase are not compliant. I would like to see the comparison once they have a compliant product. But I also like the fact that OEM's such as Toyota and Ford has implemented RIGID's SAE lighting to their production line. To me that speaks a lot.
Thanks!! I did phone Baja Designs today and they are sending out the lenses that fix the issue. Once I receive them I will re-test and make an updated video.
Anyone know if this issue has been resolved or if they are not compliant? I couldn't find anything recent on it.
@@truelife13 yes, Baja Designs has come out with new lenses that are compliant. they have shipped them to me and I am working on an update video. The lenses are easy to replace.

Which baja is best for amber fog daily lights? One I can run on with driving light.. want to mount it on my bumper
Thanks for the vid! I almost went with the BD ones based on their listed 2480 raw Lumens vs Rigids 1760 ... so raw Lumens doesn’t mean much and I guess that explains why Rigid lists their Lux @ 10m where BD doesn’t?
Lux is a much more reliable way to measure light output.
Interesting. I was looking into local lighting products (speed demon) so that's a bit disappointing they aren't as great.
Some of speed Demon's lights are pretty good. This was just a comparison on their SAE Approved light.
Already mentioned in the comments about BD’s light being out of SAE compliance. However, I just want to point out, BD’s fix to make their SAE light.... actually SAE is FUBAR. For this particular light, my vote is Rigid.
I do have the fix from Baja Designs coming from their customer service department. I do look forward to retesting them. I was hoping the fix would make them better.........
does anyone have Black Oak LEDs..?? I have owned Rigid before and was VERY impressed.
I have never tried Black Oak before. It might be a good future test.
Wondering if you have the lights angled at the same degree...the rigids appear to be angled low. The BD's are def a more natural 5000k. Rigids are more 5700-6000k. Do they output as much as the BD's? absolutely.
When we did the test we tried to aim them at the same spot. I have the replacement lenses sent by BD so will retest the lights again soon.
The ones in the test ended up being non-compliant with SAE standards.
Go back and redo this with Baja design real sae fogs because they got busted and had to send plastics out......test rough county sae fogs also
I appreciate the video, but i do wish that the pods tested were all the same style. the speed demon bulbs are road legal fog lights. none of the others are.

The Baja Designs and the Rigid lights also had an SAE approval. I did find out after the test that the Baja Designs did have to issue new lenses to be SAE approved. the ones tested in the video were stamped SAE but not did not pass SAE standards. When I did receive the new lenses...I did another test.
@@OverlandAlberta What i mean is that the speed demon lights are DOT J583 approved. The others are dot approved, but as far as I know not J583, which is fog lights. Keep em coming though, this video got me to sub to the channel!

I would never run my Speed demons with Low Beams ......
Too dam bright !
I have a Flood and a Spot mounted on my Bike .
They get people to drop their highbeams real Quick .
So I would never run them with low beam on a vehicle .
With anyone coming at me at least .
The regular offroad lights.... totally agree. The SAE lights are totally different, they are designed and road legal for use on the road
All of these lights are far outpaced by the Diode Dynamics SS3 fog lights.
Are they SAE approved? I would love to check them out!
@@OverlandAlberta yes they have SAE compliant patterns for fog and driving lights (auxiliary high beams). They have 3 power levels (sport, pro, and max) all of which are SAE J583 compliant (for fog) and the sport and pro are J581 compliant for driving lights. The max lights are not compliant for the driving pattern though, too intense.
The Baja's performed the best. Although the take away is funny. It's even obvious from your own visuals. The Rigid was throwing all the light back into your face becuase of the poor beam performance. That's not ideal in any way shape or form. And will be tiring as you drive down the road. And useless in actual fog. The Baja's though gave proper coverage and distance, without bouncing the light off the ground and back at your face. I mean, your camera literally highlights glare.
I do agree that the Baja Designs had a great beam focus. I did find them to be a little dim. I have new lenses coming in from Baja Designs that fix the non compliance issue. Once I install the new lenses I plan to retest the lights again. The Baja Designs were a good light and I look forward to seeing the correction in the new lenses.
