20:47 Switch to Valve Rectified Channel w/ 4x12 Cele V30 IR. Hop Pole.
Great tones from that pedal! And as usual just killer playing Shawn! Always awesome lyrical solos, best to you man!
This may be the best sounding pedal I've ever heard.
May be the most expensive pedal I've seen...but it sure sounds grrrrrrrreat!
Hi Shawn, your explanation is so clear ! Thank you so much and keep the channel alive!
My god shawn. Another awesome demo. When the guitar album comes out, this track needs to be revisited. Great stuff as always
Thanks Shawn! Excellent demo and controls run through.
Love your t-shirt! And great playing, as always. :)
Wow...just wow. I've been getting hip to this pedal little by little but Shawn, your explanation and playing were stellar!
It’s been seven months since my last comment and I still drop by to listen to that first two minutes. One of the best players on YT without a doubt. (I slow down playback to try to grab your licks, lol.)
thank you Shawn for this detailed demo for a very versatile pedal, also I want to wish HBD to your daughter on her 18th birthday.
Shawn, thank you. This has got to be one of the most informative reviews of the RevivalDRIVE. Fantastic demo song at the beginning. Congratulations!
Your video has given me a lot of ideas. I am planning on setting it up with a pair of modulation fx and a Suhr ACE, or AmpliFirebox (cab emulation), all set up for recording with Ableton. Thank you!
Great playing bro. You and Pete Thorn do very good demos while blasting out seriously tasty hooks. Nice job.
Awesome demo. I will be getting this pedal soon!
Great Playing, as always, thanks Shawn
Love it !!! Fantastic sound
By far the best demo of this pedal I’ve heard. Now I want one. Great job sir.
Brian Stewart I agree... most other demos sound too hairy in a not so good kind of way
I ve waited 3mos+ for my custom drive, very cool someone did a really in depth range of this puppy. Simon @Origin is a bloody genius, this is the second British invasion, the 1st one gave us music, now the response history character of guitar amps in an
analog Nirvana bliss. Thanks for this nice in depth vid and thanks to Simon of Origin Effects GB for reinventing the wheel.
Great demo and great sounding pedal
sounds great
nice playing as usual
got one of these coming in the mail
Fantastic pedal, and a great video.
Man! You have GREAT touch!
Me thinks that Egnater amp class paid off by listening to your ultra detailed explanation! Great job! Cheers!
Thanks for this informative demo with stunning playing at the start!
It seems that the impulse response wave is growing so this will be very useful to many guitarists, no doubt.
Loved the clean(ish) tone at 11:30 and the driven tone at 22:35. I'll be watching this back a few times to learn some of those licks in the beginning solo, too!
Origin Effects Hi guys. Thinking of ordering one of these to use direct with IRs. Would the extra features of the custom still be useful in this scenario? Cheers!
I think if you have the means to acquire a Revival Drive with the extra features, it would give you even more ability to custom shape your tone.
Hi, Nathan. Technically, the PWR AMP setting should work fine for use with I.R.s, however, as Shawn said, the Custom does provide you with more flexibility for shaping the EQ if needed.
Origin Effects thanks to you both for the advice. I ended up just ordering the standard after looking more into the added parameters of the custom. Can’t wait to put it on the board 👌👌
that's quite an arsenal of gear. Great as always
Fantastic review!
Thanks very much!
Thanks for the great vid! Hey that's my newer recording setup, but using the RD Compact instead of the big version. I love how natural it sounds, nothing digital or fizzy. Will check this setup out in a live setting, too.
A favorite aspect of Tubbs’ style is his vibrato - really is expressive and refreshing. Fabulous technique yet used primarily in support of expression, rather than to impress. Indeed so refreshing to be about the music as opposed to being about ego.
Thanks very much!
great stuff from Origin Effect, I got that SlideRig compressor thing, really great pedals they bild
Stunning playing as always Shawn!
Great demo of that particular application for the Revival Drive.
Sadly, for all the demos that have been done for the Revival Drive, the only thing I haven't seen demonstrated is how it might work in MY application, that is to say into a low wattage Voxy amp on the edge of clipping. Maybe it's not ideal for that application.
Really nice review. Covers pretty much everything. Just bought one and it does sound as good as ST makes it. I now have plenty of other OD pedals for sale 😂.
Mate really enjoy your videos. Long time watcher , I don’t normally put in the comments. I’m a veteran pensioner that can’t work anymore. My guitars and couple tube amps with my service dog, just us once yrs married 2 great kids love the UA pedals and this be best video showing what the Drive. 76 double comp never left my board. Was looking at trying for new amp and interface so could have some change record some as not had anyone to jam with 7yrs thinks it’s time change to one these as have Woodrow as well 57 tweed version I think you’d enjoy it and with 76 and the monster there could maybe inspiration might come back to me. Cheers 🫡🪖🇦🇺
love your T shirt
Well, just when I thought me Ethos TWE 1 would be all i could want ... . this thing does have some wonderful Mojo !
I was dead set to get myself an Ethos Clean 2... but wasn’t able to find one locally and import was crazy expensive. Just bought myself the Revival Drive Custom .... for its tweakability.
How do you find the Ethos TWE compares to your Revival Drive
Im a happy new owner of the pedal! I'm about to hook it up to my computer and compare it to my Kemper
Silky smooth lead lines.
One of the Dipswitches on the back will apply the pedal EQ to the dry/clean tone, allowing one to use the Blend functionality even when playing direct/with IR's, a solution to what you mention at 27:28
Yes, that's how I'm running the pedal, 10:01. It helps. Thanks for watching!
Shawn Tubbs nice! I must have missed that when watching, thanks for clearing that up.
It is completely und utterly ridiculous not only how many guitars this man has but the fact that every one is absolutely gorgeous! I don’t usually envy ppl for any reason but I’m having trouble not feeling that way about Mr. Tubbs lol! Not to mention the brilliantly chewy and tasty playing. Man... one can only dream.
thank you for doing an extensive direct review....i was getting frustrated just wanting to hear the RevivalDrve...
it's at the cutting edge of solid state evolution; but no one is going to know that, or how good it is that way, until they can hear it without going through a tube stage..
Can you do a video that shows more detail on the dip switches...I can’t hear a difference when changing them
Very useful and helpful video; many of the other demos of this pedal don't show it being used for mildly overdriven sounds, or the sound of a clean Fender style amp cranked up loud - the section around 11 mins onwards was great for this. I was really surprised by the Fendery sounds which seemed to capture the thing that people buy attenuators for. To me, that's much more interesting than the extreme driven sounds which you can get something like with many cheaper pedals. I think I'd find it irresistible if Origin Effects did the "Silicon only" version that people are suggesting in the comments. I have a 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, which is great, but most of the time I can't turn it up loud enough to get THAT sound - it's fine at gigs, but at home I'm always fiddling with pedals to get something approaching the sound. Also, speaking as an old fogey of 66 years, I can imagine that at some point in the future the idea of taking a pedal like that with a pedal power amp to a gig will get more appealing by comparison with lugging an amp around.
Tasty intro. I’d pickup an album if you dropped one.
This is the best demo of revival drive. Better than Pete Thornes demo.
Thanks for the kind words! Pete does really great work and is a fabulous guitar player! It's important in my opinion to hear products in the hands of multiple players to gain better perspective.

You are right.😉
Hi! Which is better, Super Black or Origin RevvivalDrive Compat? IN
terms of feel and sound for a Blackface, Twin Rverb tones? I am only
interested in Fender TwinRverb, or at least Black face, tones,
Hi, did you try Strymon Iridium? How is it in comparison with RevivalDrive?
Hi Shawn, great vid, awesome review of the Revival. Would you recommend this for gigging purposes (Revival as the main amp) with a Torpedo CAB? Thanks in advanced.
It would be one of my first recommendations!!
If I were to run the Revival Drive as a preamp for an ampless pedalboard rig, could I run it into a delay, then reverb, and then cabsim to board? In essence, placing the delay and reverb post preamp is like running a delay and reverb in the effects loop of an amp. This is my biggest concern with preamps that don’t have an effects loop because I haven’t been able to find a good enough answer for this.
Yes, so long as you run the delay and verb post preamp into something like a cab m or something along those lines, it should sound fine.
Shawn Tubbs perfect. That finally defines it! I thought I was right but just needed the confirmation.
What if i plug this straight on a pa? Would this be good for a preamp type pedal? Kinda replace my amp and put it in the end of my board's chain, kinda like an amp essentially?
You could do that but I would suggest getting a Two Notes Cab M box to use with it. That would sound great!!
Great demo again Shawn. Question: Did you, or would you use the power amp emulation on the Two Notes? Also, do you think this would improve the tone of a small/micro practice amp? Or would the physical nature of such an amp override the tone? (example amp: Blackstar FLY amp.)
Thanks! I didn't feel it was necessary to you PA emulation but you could definitely give it a try! As for the micro amp, it would certainly sound better but the amp is only going to give you so much.
Thank you! Gosh, this was another opportunity to watch that killer lick at 1:30 again.
What a fantastic Hamer guitar: can you give some information to this beauty?
Thanks so much! That is a Hamer Newport 12. I've had it for about 9 years now. Great guitar!
Shawn are you going to do a demo with this plugged straight into an amp? Again, I use high gain pups and have to use it with a crunchy amp. Or for me it’s not high gain enough. I guess that’s a 68 plexi sound. Great pedal. I actually would prefer a more spongey feeling. Still brilliant pedal.
Thanks for watching. I may at some point run it into an amp.
Shawn Tubbs I Hope so. You’re a great demo guy. You’re not helping my horrible addiction to gear Shawn. I’m in #gas recovery. It’s not working.
Sigh! So much options and knobs, but this pedal sounds awesome. A great tool voor tweakgeeks. Now I'm waiting for you to make the next pedal sound bad. That would be the first time. ;-)))
Hey dude! Great demo. What is that IR cabinet sim program you are using here?
Wall of Sound by Two Notes.
Holy horse! One to rule them all?
What IR loader are you using and what IR's are they? Great demo Thanks man..
Two Notes Wall of Sound with the BritGreen 4x12 cab model. Thanks for watching!
As a preamp how does this compare to the synergy stuff (synergy Marshall style modules)?
The Synergy product has tubes. The Marshall Modules will be closer to the actual circuits and be tube driven. That being said both products are great.
Hi! If your using the pedal with IR's where the re-amp switch is recommended to be?? Thanks for the info/video! Blessings!!
I would try it in all three positions regardless. No set rule on that one. Thanks so much for watching!
@@ShawnTubbs Thanks to you!!
BTW, if the rear Ghost switches act for two different frequencies, it sounds like it may be to add a bit of mains hum? 50 Hz is UK/European mains line frequency, and 60Hz is US,
So, not sure quite what is going on with that switch!
You are correct about the UK and US electrical frequencies. The ghost control doesn't add 50 or 60 cycle mains hum per say. It's really designed to emulate what is happening in the power section of say an old fully-cranked blackface twin or maybe an early 50 watt Marshall Plexi. It creates a ghosting or double tones type of effect. The 60Hz setting and 50Hz setting is there to subtly alter the pitch of the ghosting effect. Keep in mind that the Ghost control also has an effect on how quickly the "amp sag" effect occurs. If you have it all the way counter-clockwise the effect is more immediate. As you turn the control clockwise the "sag effect" is less immediate.
Just had a look at the manual, and i think we are both right, here. My reading was that in an amp (any amp!) if you really pull current out of the PSU smoothing capacitors, they start to run out of charge, and so a small amount of rectifier ripple starts to appear on the power amp rails. According to their manual, they say the Ghost circuit "models" a reduction in the capacitance of the smoothing caps, thus introducing mains frequency related frequencies that modulate the guitar signal. This couples with the sag modelling and relates to the mode of rectifier being "imitated" These frequencies are not harmonically related to the guitar notes, of course!
I know i have heard this effect in not very well looked after amps in the past, and i guess this is Origin adding a level of realism that nobody else does.
Clever people.
And great review, as ever, Sir!
anyone know if you can run both sides simultaneously? this is THE must have od hope you can stack.
You can only use one side at a time.
A bit too many dials for me Shawn. I like to keep things simple/old school. Terrific tune at the beginning with part of your great guitar collection (that Suhr Trans-T… wow!!) \m/
The pedal has too much high end...my only complaint.. i really use the high shelf and the brightcap cut too...theres this ever present chalkboard pierce when you DIG into the strings on single coil pickups... any advice?
What amp are you using?
Hey, Mark Hansen. If you have the CUSTOM version then you can change which frequencies are cut by these controls. You can pretty much reduce ALL treble by doing this. Also, back-off the PRESENCE control if you're using that and avoid the US bright cap.
Hello Sean, since you’ve demoed this and the two notes le preamps which do you prefer?
I think the Revival Drive is better in my opinion.
Thanks! You are such a great resource! You are my top resource! Keep those videos coming and please let us know when you get an album out ; those licks and chops deserve to be fleshed out into a full length album! I’ll buy it!
Could you also have gone direct into you ox amp top box?
The OX doesn't have a line input. It's amp only.
If you're not hip yet, try running any of these amp in a box pedals into the Rupert Neve DI (RNDI). Kicks the tone quality up several notches. Not a cheap DI box, but when you hear it, it's worth it.
Is that a Suhr badger in the back? Which one and can we expect a demo?
That is the Badger 35. I've got a Badger 18 demo done and am just waiting on Suhr for the release date.
Shawn Tubbs great! Can’t wait to hear it.
What is the best compact IR loader pedal for a pedalboard
There are quite a few on the market now and honestly, I've not had any experience with the majority of them. I like the Two Notes Torpedo CAB but I know it's a more expensive option and takes up more space on a pedal board. The Mooer Radar looks interesting to me.
Shawn Tubbs thanks!
@@ShawnTubbs Love my Radar with Ownhammer IRs
Sounds great! Did you use any of the power amp simulation in the Two Notes software?
I didn't use any power amp sims because I wanted the pedal to do all of the work.
Dude, that Hamer 12 string... Is that a Duotone?
No, it's a 12 string Newport. Great guitar!
Sounds great as usual. But i wish i would hear the pedal through an miked amp. IRs are for me not the ideal reference.
The folks at Origin requested a more direct recording with IR's focused video as they had so many inquiries about it.
Cool
As Shawn said, we thought that an IR-exclusive demo would be useful as there are plenty of into-amp demos out there. Shawn did a fab job!
Lessons? I’ve been trying to figure out some of your “outside” playing but it’s just too much to comprehend. What about a short lesson on how you get around the board?? Even just how you throw all of those extra notes in to your pentatonic playing. Please please!!!!! I’m sure everyone here would love that. Thanks Shawn.
Hey Mark ... just to let you know ... We did a lesson on some of Shawns stuff a while back on our youTube channel ... just check out our channel and you can grab the transcription/tab for that lesson.
Also papastache102 did an really good interview with Shawn where he breaks down some of his moving around the fretboard and using chromatic movements.
And finally ... check out our channel GuitarBreakdown for some Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds, Guthrie Govan and Michael Landau to name a few ... they crawl the fretboard with a lot of very musical chromatic movement as well.
Shawn is amazing! We've transcribed a bunch of his stuff and have several more lesson breakdowns coming in the near future.
Hope this helps give ya some ideas.
Interesting, this. I too love his chromaticisms, and i have been experimenting with such ideas, myself, although i'm not a particularly good guitar player. One thing i do though, and somewhat unlike most guitarists i see, is to use 4 fingers on strings. Probably comes from learning the violin at a young age, where the strings are in 5ths. so requiring 4 fingers to get up/down to the next string. So many players just seems use 3 fingers, which seems to lead to over reliance on pentatonic motifs. Unusually, it looks like Shawn, even though he mainly uses 3 fingers, avoids this trap, and with style. Watch Alan Holdsworth, and you'll see what i mean. IF you can follow what he did. Which most of the time i cannot!
Just here for your great playing. This pedal isn't really affordable for weekend musicians. It does sound great though.
It is expensive but only as expensive as buying another fairly posh guitar. That's probably what I will tell myself when I succumb :-)
: )))
Hi, very good review.
I’m curious; I really like the sound Doyle Bramhall gets here ua-cam.com/video/HH2nTo_c8qw/v-deo.html
How much of that is due to effects, I wonder? Do you think you could pretty much reproduce that tone with a minimum of pedals going straight in, DI?
His solo on Time, formidable, really gets some nice high end harmonics.
What’s an IR?
IR stands for Impulse Response.
I must admit I feel a bit overwhelmed by this pedal.
You sounded like my Grandma
Thanks!! Did you ask your Grandma if you could use her computer to troll the internet?
I don't think I've ever seen so much high end gear in a home studio. How do you even afford this stuff?
Imagine owning all of that great equipment only to use it for total crap
No tubes=no tone. Pointless and expensive. Harsh and non tube like break up
You need a hearing test.
