Shawn, a very well done review. Thanks for taking the time to work the various settings using both rhythm and leads. These types of demos along with your expressive playing really help players get a feel for what can be achieved. Two thumbs up. Keep them coming.
Hi Shawn! I enjoy your gear demos a lot, very useful information and well put together And man! such inspiring sounds and playing... Keep the gear demos up!
Really great demo, Shawn. I only have 1 Wampler (Tape Echo) but the quality in both build and sound is so good I've seriously been eyeballing this pedal for awhile now.
Wow, I'm blown away that a guitarist of your caliber would take the time to answer as many comments as possible on your videos. I love your jazz influenced country style, and now I'm equally impressed with your humility.
Was on the fence about which K type drive to get. This video made up my mind! Great playing and awesome sounds (as always)! Love your reviews. Thanks......I think. You’re starting to cost me $$$$!
Just bought the standard version of this pedal, wanted to see how Shawn played it. Replayed the intro jam 3-4 times and I forgot about the pedal, vibed to Shawn's awesome arsenal of tasty licks. Great demo!
This pedal just sounds awesome to me. I gotta say though...I got the Nux Horseman and Im just as happy for a LOT less money. Nux puts out some great stuff. The Roctary is next on my must have list.
Hey Shawn, stellar playing and thanks for such an informative review, your videos are amazing. Between this and the Dirty Shirley, which one would you get if you had to choose one? Which is more versatile and which one has more gain overall?
Thanks so much!! I guess the decision between the DS and the Tumnus boils down to how you want to sound. They're both extremely versatile. So do you want a pedal that sounds like a Klon or a pedal that sounds like a Friedman Dirty Shirley? Gain wise they're both pretty close.
The mid boost / cut is a huge selling with this kind of pedal. These Klon types generally add mids when gain is added, but that doesn't always sound great, depending on the guitar and amp being used. Nice to have control in that area.
@@mattgilbert7347 Ofcourse, but it will always be a different result than changing the mids inside the pedal itself. If you change it before, the pedal gets a different input, if you change it after, you alter the result sound of the pedal. Now it gets taken up into the internal mix of the pedal.
Both great pedals. The Rockaway is less compressed and a bit more aggressive sounding than the TD. The TD to me has more gain and is more compressed sounding.Just depends on what you want.
Great vid Shawn. How does this pedal compare with the Friedman Dirty Shirley. I love the DS but I'm looking for a pedal to give me a different lower gain tonal option on my board. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much. The Tumnus is certainly more a Klon based pedal whereas the Friedman Dirty Shirley is based on the Friedman Dirty Shirley amp. The Tumnus will have more mid bark and focus so I would be a good pedal to have in addition to the DS for sure.
Daaaamn that intro Shawn! I literally say that I dislike shredding, but that scale on sec 0.51-0.53 was ace! Would you say this is a mid gain overdrive? (on the normal mode, of course) cheers ;-)
Thanks so much for what you do, Shawn, I'm trying to figure out the differences between the Tumnus and Dirty Shirley? I'm leaning towards the DS... Which one would YOU say is more versatile?
Thanks for tuning in Jeff. Both pedals are very versatile. If you want more of a Klon based OD go for the Tumnus. If you want something that will get you closer to the tone of a Friedman DS amp, go that route.
Ive used a proco rat for many years, but was checking these out and thought why not, it's time to try something different for a change...looking forward to receiving it and playing through it, I see no reason why I won't have a smile on my face.
Mr. Tubbs, I've watched loads of pedal demos by many great players, but I have to say I'm incredibly impressed by your amazing playing - great skill with great taste! Subscribed. (Are you familiar with guitarist Jimmy Herring? Some of your trem bar licks remind me of his.)
Hi shawn! Awesome stuff! Just wondering a couple of things 1. What are your thoughts on using the Tumnus Deluxe vs The Archer 2. On what context would you personally employ the Tumnus Deluxe? i.e soloing, comping, riffs etc? Just curious!
Thanks Gabriel and thanks for the questions. I think the Archer is about as close as you're going to get to a Klon in my opinion but the Tumnus is good too. Depends on what you want. If you want more of a true Klon clone the Archer is hard to beat. If you want a pedal that sounds really close to a Klon but with more EQ possibilities, the Tumnus is really the way to go. As far as context goes I tend to use Klon style pedals more for rhythm or riff stuff but that being said there are no rules on the subject. I've used the Archer for solos quite a bit and I zero problems dialing in the Tumnus for solo tones.
Shawn, hope all is well. Sick playing as usual. You did a demo of the J Rockett Blue Note w toggle a while back. Would you say these two pedals are similiar? Thanks in advance, Bob
Hey Bob, good to hear from you and thanks for the kind words. The Tour Series BN is the same exact pedal but without the hot switch. I personally never used that switch but if you feel like you might want just a little more gain then get the older one. Otherwise, go with the tour series for sure.
Shawn Tubbs ok, will check out the Tumnus and report back. Thanks for your time. By the way, you slay brother, love your style and look forward to more demos, etc.. Peace.
Hey! Do you have to higher the bass on your amp in order to get a well balanced sound with that Wampler ? I bought the Wampler Hot Wired and found that it lacks bass, so it is basically unusable because i have to higher the bass on my amp every time...great videos and playing btw!
The Hot Wired is based on a TS-9 circuit if I'm not mistaken which typically will present with less low end. I didn't notice an issue with low end using the Tumnus. Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much! I don't have any experience with the Walrus. I liked the Silver Archer enough to sell my original Silver Klon. The Tumnus Deluxe is great but it's more of a variation based on the Klon circuit. If you really want a Klon Centaur sound go the Archer route but if you want more of a Klon character with more tweakability, go with the Tumnus Deluxe.
I use a standard Tumnus now. I'm not sure that I need the additional flexibility; I tend to leave it set up one way and it's kind of a go to sound into a clean amp. Ignoring features, any thoughts on how they compare sonically? Thanks
Hey Rick, thanks for the question. I've never played the standard Tumnus so I can't say for sure how the two compare. In my opinion, it sounds like you're good to go with the standard Tumnus. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!;)
It's really nice to hear a good player demo a pedal so I can have some idea of how it will actually sound when I play it, unlike when I just get random power chords and a few sloppily played single notes that tell me nothing about the harmonic response. Nicely done.
Another great demo Shawn 👍 ..I still feel like you need a signature pedal though, the Tumnus is pretty cool, but I think I'll be waiting for the "Yammering On" overdrive! Lol - Someone design and build Shawn a pedal!!
Shawn Tubbs Thats awesome news! ..So the question is, do you go with a goofy name or not? Haha! (Btw, I also think you should speak to Dean De Leo about joining STP ;) Go on! 🤘
Shawn Tubbs Yeah definitely. It'd be fun and cool as though right!? :) The new guy seems legit too, I think they choose right with him. Onward and upward. Wish them and you all the best mate, looking forward to the Tubbnus OD pedal lol 👍 Cheers.
This pedal sounds great in every position on the neck (sometimes these overdrives are flabby and muddy on the bottom end). And you are killing it as usual. I'm thinking you could easily sell a demo of a footswitch resting in a turd.
Shawn Tubbs surely, every one who plays know that you need to drive the tubes when it’s already breaking up. Just see the two most iconic drives, klon and tubescreamer. Both stay low gain but drives the tubes outta the amps if used properly
Shawn Tubbs Thanks! And idk if you read it as solo or solo boost.. just edited, solo boost stacked with the Iron is what I meant. But I'll have to give it a shot for sure.
No, I stopped using it a while ago. I gave it to a friend of mine that could really use it. Now that I've got my amp switcher and my OX, I don't really have a need for it.
Shawn, a very well done review. Thanks for taking the time to work the various settings using both rhythm and leads. These types of demos along with your expressive playing really help players get a feel for what can be achieved. Two thumbs up. Keep them coming.
Thanks so much Manny I appreciate you tuning in.
Now THAT was a pedal demo/review! You fully get it & your playing is top notch. Right on
came to check out the pedal, instantly hooked on the killer opening tune riff. great chops!
Nice playing. Serious guitar collection too! Tumnus Deluxe is a great Pedal. Have had a few months now and enjoy it a lot.
The playing on that intro song is so damn good. Like, just unbelievable.
You never cease to amaze me man. Superb playing, phrasing, and feel. Oh and the box sounds pretty good too!
You're very kind Gary. Thanks so much for tuning in!
Dude, You rock! The pedal should be coming soon but so enjoyed your Demo, Great vid!!!
Hi Shawn!
I enjoy your gear demos a lot, very useful information and well put together
And man! such inspiring sounds and playing... Keep the gear demos up!
Thanks very much for tuning in Edward!!
Goddamnit Shawn, that intro was gnarly as hell. Your music is so effing enjoyable.
Thanks so much!!
Inspiring playing, like all your vids. Great demonstration too Shawn!
Awesome pedal, great playing!! Thanks!
Love your demos dude! You’re my go to guy for gear!
Always a pleasure watching you play! Great review man.
Thanks so much Kurt!
Really great demo, Shawn. I only have 1 Wampler (Tape Echo) but the quality in both build and sound is so good I've seriously been eyeballing this pedal for awhile now.
This pedal seems to bring out those natural harmonics when the tubes get pushed. Amazing!
Right on Jack. Thanks for tuning in!
Great playing! Your use of the trem bar reminded me of Jimmy Herring. Excellent demo!
Doesn’t even matter what pedal it is. Haha. Shawn, your playing is just...😍😍 😲 😲🤪🤪
Troy... I caught you using emoji's... I feel like you're on every vid I watch. You thinking about getting a Tumnus Deluxe?
You have some RIPPIN' licks in that intro tune! Woo!
Loving your videos! Thanks for the great content.
Thanks Stephen!!
thanks again for another informative demo Mr. Tubbs. .
Thanks for tuning in!!
Came for the pedal - got a free guitar lesson: thanks Shawn!
Wow, I'm blown away that a guitarist of your caliber would take the time to answer as many comments as possible on your videos. I love your jazz influenced country style, and now I'm equally impressed with your humility.
You're very kind. I can't always get to every question or comment but I try to address as many as possible. Thanks for tuning in!
Killer pedal, your playing is AMAZING, man you make everything sound awesome!!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you tuning into my channel!
Shawn Tubbs thanks for the reply!! I would love to listen more of your music, where can I buy an album?
sick playing
amazing as always - on my list now!
Right on man! Thanks for tuning in!
Great demo, playing and explanation, Shawn!
Thanks so much! Thanks for tuning in!
Love the review Sir. Subscribed!
Was on the fence about which K type drive to get. This video made up my mind! Great playing and awesome sounds (as always)! Love your reviews. Thanks......I think. You’re starting to cost me $$$$!
Shawn, it doesn't matter what you play you Always sound Amazing !!!
How it compares against the Petty John Chime ?
Holy damn that sounds great
Man!!! That playing is killer!!!
Thanks Andrew!!
Shawn, Great Performance and Review!!!! I just Ordered this Amazing Pedal!!!! WJD3
Great demo Shawn, boy you have some nice guitars....
I love it….everything!
Shawn once kicked a rusty bucket down a hill and all the people gathered around to hear the beautiful sound.
that Collings with those Throback pups looks and sounds very sweet !
Thanks very much. I really like that guitar.
Cool that you used a RedPlate on this demo. I have a RedPlate Blackline head and it's the best amp I've ever owned.
RedPlate builds good stuff.
awesome demo! great playing! subscribed
Thanks so much!!
Excellent playing Shawn, greetings from Venezuela.
Thanks so much for tuning in!!
That finale' with the red HB was bad ass.
Shawn, terrific demo of this great pedal. Thank you for your insight. So much more than a demo, an education!
Thanks so much Will!
Just bought the standard version of this pedal, wanted to see how Shawn played it. Replayed the intro jam 3-4 times and I forgot about the pedal, vibed to Shawn's awesome arsenal of tasty licks. Great demo!
Thanks so much!!
amazing player! subbed!
Shawn, great demo as usual, and amazing playing as usual... been looking at this one, thanks for closing the deal for me!
Thanks Craig I appreciate it man. Hope you're doing well.
Jesus that 335 lick!
This pedal just sounds awesome to me. I gotta say though...I got the Nux Horseman and Im just as happy for a LOT less money. Nux puts out some great stuff. The Roctary is next on my must have list.
great playing
Thanks so much Curtis!
Love the tones and what a player. I hear some Jimmy Herring and EJ in there. Super melodic and killer pocket.
You're very kind. Thanks so much!
Great Demo and Playing! Seems like a different animal than a Klon clone. Definitely more versatile with the EQ and range in Gain.
Thanks so much. Yeah the boost/ cut mid is not a common option on a clone for sure.
Good Demo🎸🎸🥃🥃
One cool dude and badass player
You're very kind. Thanks so much!
I'd give you more than one like if I could. LOL great job. Now I want that pedal.
The smaller mini Wampler Tumnus pedal has an unusual cocked wah modulation wave sound in the circuit
I'm convinced he's a robot guitarist from the future sent back to torment us. There's no other explanation for those chops.
c'mon, guys ...
120 views, and 9 "likes" ..??
give Shawn some "likes" to help build his Channel, these are great gear reviews
Thanks Embree!

can u do some videos of how you play certain repeating licks
The mid boost / cut is a huge selling with this kind of pedal. These Klon types generally add mids when gain is added, but that doesn't always sound great, depending on the guitar and amp being used. Nice to have control in that area.
Larry Lachmann Couldn't you use a separate EQ to handle that issue?

Shawn, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Tumnus Deluxe vs the Rockaway Archer. Both seem really great because of tonal flexibility.
Both great pedals. The Rockaway is less compressed and a bit more aggressive sounding than the TD. The TD to me has more gain and is more compressed sounding.Just depends on what you want.

Hey Shawn great demo as always.was wondering if you've tried this pedal with the boss katana or any other solid state amp?
Thanks Nash! I haven't tried this pedal in front of a Katana. I had one around just long enough to do a quick demo and then send back.
Shawn, what are you using for programming Drums when you create your backing tracks?
Daaaamn that intro Shawn! I literally say that I dislike shredding, but that scale on sec 0.51-0.53 was ace! Would you say this is a mid gain overdrive? (on the normal mode, of course) cheers ;-)

Shawn Tubbs ok, will check out the Tumnus and report back. Thanks for your time. By the way, you slay brother, love your style and look forward to more demos, etc.. Peace.

Shawn Tubbs Thats awesome news! ..So the question is, do you go with a goofy name or not? Haha! (Btw, I also think you should speak to Dean De Leo about joining STP ;) Go on! 🤘
I like the name! Probably won't fly though;). As far as STP goes I think Dean has the guitar work covered quite nicely. He's one of favorite players!

What is better ARCHER OR TUMNUS DELUXE? For strat and supersonic 22.
It really depends on your needs. I prefer the Archer but it has less gain and you don't have control over the mids. Both great pedals.

runnin through ftr-37? sounds delicious!
He mentions using the Redplate this time around.
Thanks for tuning in. I actually used my Redplate for this one.
Which one do you think sounds and feels like a klon, a KTR or the Tumnus deluxe?
KTR, no contest here. Tumnus is Klon inspired pedal, not pedal that try to sounds like original Klon.
I still like the Rockett Pedals Archer the best. Just an opinion.
@@ShawnTubbs interesting, for me Archer is lacking "something". Like some Pixie dust or what 😁
@@stanislavmigra I owned a Sliver Klon for a number of years. It's the closest I've heard in my opinion.

@@ShawnTubbs ok cool. Thanks. Amazing sounds as always brother!
God youtube makes me sick how good some players are. But boy what a player. Great video man. Thanks so much.
is there a disadvantage considering it is not a true-bypass?
Every pedal you play sounds the same : awesome. (it's not the pedals)
This is how all that "young country" music should sound!!
Shawn, you're a fine player, but even you can't get me to buy a Tumnus Deluxe.
..fuck Shawn is good.
Thanks Tomi, I appreciate it. Thanks for tuning in!
This pedal has a very audible pop when you click it on and off. I emailed them. They said this is normal. I returned it. Beware before you buy it.
This is meant to sound like a Dumble?? A Zen drive owns it,
No, it's not meant to sound like a Dumble. It's modeled after a Klon Centaur.
