Has it been the same singer the whole time? Is the guy they have now, the one with dreads? The dude now always wears a hat and I can't tell if it's same dude
I recall In their song Crawl Through Knives Anders at one point does what I'd consider some of the wildest highs I've heard over my time listening to metal. Also I have had Liminal Right on repeat, for real, non stop. Kudos.
Anders is if I remember correctly from a UA-cam video, one of Will Ramo's sort of heroes vocally, I think he mentioned Anders being a inspiration for him. In Flames is also the first band I saw live they opened up for Avenged Sevenfold before Disturbed
Has anyone asked you to checkout Bloodywood yet? They have two vocalists who both have unique sounds, and are just generally awesome to listen to. They’re Indian metal.
Anders has done a good job with his "second coming." His pitch (or whatever the term is) was so different 20 years ago-way higher, more aggressive, and really a bit reckless it seems. His voice started to decline probably around the middle-to-end of the 2000s and was then in pretty rough shape for quite a few years. I do believe he finally got coaching to relearn how to properly use harsh vocals without hurting his innards. He sounded great overall in their last album and sounds fantastic here too. Ander rarely used lows, but they're sprinkled in there occasionally (see the song "F(r)iend" for example, especially live).
Kardashev released their new album on my birthday, when I tell you I had the whole album on repeat all day, I mean it. Awesome birthday gift from the metal gods, I literally had two amazing birthday gifts from the universe, Liminal Rite, and the new Jurassic World, I was a happy camper this year.
Still love that intro/outro riff and would love to hear it in a song. Listening to your new album right after this. Your one of the few death metal bands I enjoy. Keep kicking ass!
Nice video Mark. Anders always had that shimmer or natural voice breaking through, JesterRace & Colony are good listens for that older sound. KEEP making sweet videos bro :) \m/
Hi Mark, I really enjoy your content despite not being vocalist myself. Keep up the good work! I enjoy both your music and your professional description of various vocal techniques. Have you considered doing a breakdown of common mistakes that vocalists do? For example, taking a live execution of a song, highlighting the unhealthy mistakes that were done and showing how to approach the desired effect in healthy and professional way. That’d be really interesting and engaging, IMO. What do you think?
Dear Mark! I love watching your analysis videos as well as listening to your notes, tips, advices etc. And I'm really happy to finally see some Swedish MDM here! Is there any chance to see your reaction to Anders' "colleague" Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquility/The Halo Effect? His vocals are really different, especially his cleans. Would be lovely to see such video some day.
!! CHECK OUT GHOST FEET- by HUNGRY LIGHTS. !! I'm curious to see how you break down his vocals. He does a pinched harmonic. At least I think that's what it's called. It's not a spotify song. Olcan only find it on youtube or Facebook videos. The instrumental was created by Jared dines and put out on his social media for his followers to create vocals for it and the winner was vocalist Justin Bonitz. It's pretty wicked
What I really like from Anders harsh vocals is the touch of melody/clean that shows thru. I always kinda wondered how he does it. Might try to use my fry vocals a bit more, but I think I am doing something wrong, I always feel like gaging shortly after I use them :( Also, Bloubleflourps
So dope! Love watching your analysis’ man! Don’t know if you take suggestions but an underrated deathcore singer/song that deserves more attention is Guillaume from Beyond Deviation (song: white noise). I’m sure others would like to hear your input on his crazy whistle tone highs I haven’t heard from anyone else!

Hey Mark, I was wondering if you’ve ever heard one of the earlier Beartooth songs. Caleb Shomo sounds like he’s doing the typical tv static fry vocals, but instead he’s doing a false chord with a little bit of his normal voice thrown in. Thought you’d find it interesting.
I'm not a musician, neither am I a vocalist, but I enjoy metal in most of its forms Anders (the singer) sounds the same in most songs, but it's a very unique sound and if you enjoy it, welcome to the club! edit: top notch anime protagonist voice 😂👌
I'm assuming, because literally everyone who reacts on YT has already done it, you are planning a reaction to the Alex Terrible voice cover over BFG Division? I really wanna hear your expert breakdown on how he makes those sounds. It's ridic. Thanks!
In flames is one of my favorite bands for sure! Been listening a long time. They have changed a lot over time. I don't like the stuff before clayman but some say that is the only good in flames. I feel like they get a lot more hate for changing sound than other bands and it kinda bothers me. Anders and the band have a very in flames unique sound that I enjoy. I didn't really like sounds of a playground fading, sirens charm, and battles was ok. My top three albums would be a sense of purpose, come clarity, I the mask. If you want that in flames sound you only get it from them and I will gladly keep coming back to see if I vibe with what they are doing.
They don't get shit for changing their sound, they get shit for watering it down into some of the most bland, paint-by-numbers, commercialized metal of the 21st century. This song is definitely a step in the right direction, though.
Please please go check out the one take covers that Trevor Teichert does on UA-cam! He covers lorna shore and I think he's such an underrated vocalist. He doesn't get near the views he should and a small feature from someone like you would help a lot! Cheers and love the content! \m/
I don't love the "heavy" In Flames so much, I mean they are fine at it and all but I just love their more boybandy stuff that is just so different. Or maybe I'm just a nostalgic swede who listened to them as a teenager in the 2000's.
Thanks so much dude! Well, my main band Kardashev is heavily black metal influenced, but we also made a little black metal side project album a little while ago called Neverbreath for fun - I do love me some black metal!
You know you're old when the reviewer feels reminded of his high school days because of the riffs and melodies. And even more so when you realize that he's talking about bands that were influenced by In Flames in the second and third generation, while you yourself pull the physical copy of 'the Jester Race' out of the shelf every now and then 🤣🤦♂️
I love in flames, for a great many years now. You need to listen to some live in flames. The recordings are trickery. Anders hasn't sounded good live in a long time. Improper technique has destroyed this man's voice
I love the stuff In Flames released up until 2004 but after that they lost most of their touch. This song sounds pretty good but Anders vocals just isn't good enough for this kind of genre. To me it feels extremely forced and I don't think he's comfortable doing vocals like this anymore.
I love me some in flames, and you are spot on with this. Anders live always sounds like dogshit for this reason. Never learning proper technique has fried his vocal chords
@@focusman420 Yeah, sad but true. Even back in the early 2000's he started to switch to more clean vocals and you could hear he couldn't really handle it. I still love to listen to their older stuff but live and even studio recordings are really bad. Even with layers and effects put on his voice you can hear that it doesn't sound right.
