This man was one of the single most talented musicians ever.He could've rock as hard as they come when he needed to...then his ballads were tear jerking and pore raising!!! He was a fantastic guitarist too.A true talent in his own right!!! It was and is a pleasure to own his music.Rest In Peace Dan.
One of the best concerts we have ever seen was DF in Wallingford, CT a couple of years before his death. Seen Police, Who, McCartney, Taylor, etc., and Dan was hanging with 'em all.
Needs more cowbell at 2:09--Just kidding; it is such a treat to come back to this song after not hearing it for a long time, and seeing Kenny Passarelli busting out those moves just makes it even better.
What memories with this song!, it brings me back when I was 7 in the car going to the mountains with my family, My Dad loves his songs, mostly the soft ones, but this one is one his most favorite of the rock songs!, Love this! Thank you Dan!, you carry something precious and blessed us with your special gift! and it went with you beyond any words, beyond all physical into paradise!
We might chuckle and joke about the bass player with his moves but that's Kenny Passarelli and his resume is impressive. He has backed not only Fogelberg but Joe Walsh, Elton John, Eric Carmen, Stephen Stills, and Daryl Hall.
That is impressive! KP is the one that stands out the most in my memory from when I first saw this when it came out on MTV. So it paid off for him. Good times
Love Dan, his musical talents were second to none, miss the music and his humanity! Love this rare rocker from him! Playful and fun. His songs moved people.
I used to try to play this when I bought my 1st guitar right around the time this came out. I taped it on cassette from the radio and would practice. Once my mom and sister overheard me, and knocked on my room door. I expected a "TURN THAT DOWN!!" but instead got encouragement "you're getting better". My sister (who actually had Dan's album "The Innocent Age") thought it was Rick Springfield who did this. Mom didn't know who either was.
I haven't seen this video since it was on VHI. I was listening to it as I scrolled the comments and as it ended I thought "I need to watch the ending, there's something I enjoyed" and I got back to the video just as he waggled his eyebrows and then smiled. OMG that smile. For a moment I was a teenager again.
My musical hero he was a true Renaissance Man musically he was far superior than anyone out there past or present.. there was talk at one point of him joining the Eagles.. his musical knowledge was far superior to any of theirs
"The director decided to have us all wear white on a white set. His vision was that the color represented romance. We all wore white and played white instruments. Kenny Passarelli (bass) wore a white kimono, I just wore white coveralls and Dan wore a white blazer but he got to wear blue jeans. You can see the video on UA-cam, but wear sunglasses, it's really white!" - Joe Vitale (Dan's drummer, Joe Walsh, CSN) lol.. I love Joe!
Gerald Schutte, same here. His lyrics on this song are spot on. I thought so the first time I ever heard it and it still remains true, 35 years later. His catalog is indeed impressive, but this one is a true gem. It’s not even one of his better-known songs, a fact I will never understand. It is one of my favorite songs of all time. Nice to see someone else who appreciates it, as well.
Dan campaigned for prostate exams after he admitted he didn't get his in time to catch cancer. I'm in a similar situation to avoid the anal probe, but I will get mine this year at 53 thanks to Dan's message.
As you may know he was from Peoria Illinois. The song "Same Auld Lang Syne" took place at a convenience store here in the bluffs of Peoria. I pass by the place every now and again and it's always with a heavy heart. If you are curious the store is on the corner of Abington and Prospect. Google this....
It wasn't. "Believe In Me" was a #1 US and Canadian Adult Contemporary chart hit. "Go Down Easy," "Lonely In Love" and "Rhythm Of The Rain / Rain" were Top 10 hits on both charts.
He did do several albums after this & also a concert video in 1991, which I bought on VHS way back in the day. But as far as the radio goes, you're right. This was sadly his last major hit.
I was at a rather restrictive religious university when this song came out. Oddly enough, this became our dormitory theme song-the girls in the neighboring dorm had this song as their alarm clock and I woke up at 6:30 and bounced out of bed. Fantastic. We all hoped to marry Dan one day. Great talent, gone too soon, Gosh I miss him!
("LEADER OF THE BAND"{MINE WAS PETEY THE COCKATIEL)}& "AULD LANG SYNE"= MY FAV'S].The year b4 DAN passed away i "won" 2 concert tickets to see DAN FOGELBERG's solo concert at RUTH ECKERD HALL, CLEARWATER, FL. DAN blew me away{ the wife enjoyed DAN'S songs but her passion is " OLDIES" & " FRANKI VALLE"}. DAN was superb; no hint of illness. He went on doing what he loved & excelled at till the end. R.I.P.
Dan could and did a wide range of music. I wish he had dealt more with the bluegrass genre. But he understood what his audience was and did not disappoint. I think a true fan of Dan would have given him more leeway and would allow him to explore other avenues of musical expression. If you have not invested in more of his albums I recommend Portrait. A good mix of different styles of music. You will find that he could write and sing and play a wide variety of musical styles. His hits are there too. But if you just stop at those songs you will miss out on the depths of his true soul. Yes, cancer robbed us of his most wonderful talent. One of the few who could meld beautiful words and phrases into musical pictures, a talent that I also find comforting in Gordon Lightfoot music. There are millions who perform but few can really touch the soul. Dan did!
@@AmyLSacks I think that Dan wanted to explore that side of the music spectrum more but I am not sure his core audience would "go along with that ride". He was great at what he produced. I know playing a certain style of music can pigeon-hole your creative side. Ricky Nelson was a poster child of that. Dan had other passions-art, boating, ranching that even if the buying public could not appreciate him spreading his wings musically that he found outlets elsewhere.
Great song, was happy Dan Fogelberg was able to score a Top 20 hit with this killer song considering by 1984 his popularity was on a downhill slide and MTV was in full swing by then.
I saw this in 1984 while eating with a friend in Peoria il at a place that was showing videos on a large, old, theater screen.I always liked the more mellow guitar playing that Dan did,but I thought this tune showed the rockn roll in Dan and the song sounded so good on that very large screen.
I saw this when I was in the hospital after a serious traumatic motorcycle vs car tangle. Yea...I was on the bike. The bike always loses. MTV had just really started. Love this song. Totally hits home. Good job Dan!!
+Rick Bruni Hi Rick. He looks so young..which he was? Played with Elton John too. He played way back when with a great canadian guitar player named Gaye Delorme. Quite the talent here.

I love all different sides of his music, such an amazing talent!
I feel the same way. His music was and is, part of the soundtrack of my life.
@@richardhendry3883 well said!
Robert Palmer was another one..
I will never unsee that bassist

Dan Fogelberg left this world with an extraordinary gift - his music.
Fogelberg was awesome. This man had talent. He is sorely missed.
Absolutely
Agreed
❤
Hearing him after 3 decades, wow he got my teenage back
@@ajayb100 Yes!! ❤️❤️❤️
Fogelberg was the best!
Ah, cutting school in '84 and watching MTV.
Consistently underrated , overlooked and undervalued on his whole body of work .... Absolutely shameful ...
Dan was an extremely talented handsome man, we lost him in 2007 to prostate cancer.
Absolutely. And his music is rarely played on the radio.
It’s so shameful a lot of his music is NOT played on radio. Sure am Glad I own it and play it! Stupid Politics in radio
Dan Fogelberg spoke The Language Of Love forty years ago. That language is still spoken today.
He had fun with this one!
This is my favorite upbeat Fogelberg song -- proof that he is capable of more than just poignant ballads.
What about Power of Gold ....love that one too!
Part of the Plan was a great upbeat song too!
@@haroldelrod8515 True, that was one of his other upbeat hits.
This is my favorite of his, out of all the upbeat tempo songs as well.
Dan Fogelberg could do it all. One of the greats.
One of the best concerts we have ever seen was DF in Wallingford, CT a couple of years before his death. Seen Police, Who, McCartney, Taylor, etc., and Dan was hanging with 'em all.
That’s so awesome!
DAN could perform any kind of music, classical,,,rock ,country folk, laid back or sophisticated,it always came out perfect
+Robert Diehl The guy landed High Country Snow, obviously talent flowing
Powerful
and he played "Wolf Creek" with Doc Watson...one of the best guitar pickers ever!
NICE DAWG I saw and heard him do it all live 5 times!
He was a very classically inclined musician that Dan.
Takes a special type of man to rock cowboy, boot, correct fitting levis, button down shirt and suit jacket.... he is one of them

Kenny is all good in my book
That’s right!
Wow, that’s a nice resume
I was also surprised to learn that he a
co-wrote the Joe Walsh hit "Rocky Mountain Way". Very talented musician!
Criminally underrated musically, plus he was really easy on the eyes. Continue to R.I.P. Dan 💔
Love Dan, his musical talents were second to none, miss the music and his humanity! Love this rare rocker from him! Playful and fun. His songs moved people.

Awesome album Dan fogelberg was a icon very much missed
Avery underrated legend that doesn't get the credit he deserves. RIP.
There was a petition trying to get enough signatures to include him in the Hollywood walk of fame but not sure if it was successful.
Always have a soft spot for Fogelberg. This is a great song.
An uncharacteristic rocker from him and a masterpiece to boot!
This showed another side of him. That's why I love it so much.
RIP Dan, We Miss You A Lot.

This video showed me that anyone can rock out. Class of ‘87.

Dan you were one of the best! Gone way too soon!
Fogelberg outdoes the power pop groups of the era. Top notch stuff.
Great talent!

This is such a great song, almost humorously looking at the way things are in relationships. Dan was very versatile. RIP

The first time I heard this song was driving to school in my Datsun 210 in 10th grade. Class of 86 :)
I really like this song…miss the 80s
Love this classic......need more cowbell though lol
He's one of thebest singers I've heard .
I watch this incredibly talented, beautiful man and cry - WHY was he taken from us so young!? SUCH a waste . . . the EYEBROWS! :)
A truly gifted singer. Passed away so young.
Yep, 56 from prostate cancer... goodbye Mr Dan.
This record reminds me My life in the 80s and 90s, so beautiful

He was not into rock songs but this is pretty good...RIP dan and his idol George Harrison
Jeff Lynne too!
He was not into being known only as as balladeer. Where did you hear he was not into rock songs? Yes, RIP Dan and George.
