The Frigidaire Dehumidifier link isn't working any longer. :)
Thanks for the link Jason!
Great information Jason. Very important info that isn’t covered very often. I love the garden house attachment on the dehumidifier.
What a timely release of this video. Thank you Jason I was just looking into dehumidifiers
Thank you so much for your video on your electrical wiring! I’ve been looking for a video like this! Thank you 🙏🏻
Good info!
Thank you. This was very helpful!!
Thank you for this info!
Hi great imformation, ive got a small fish room with 8 3ft tanks ive got a small humidifer, is it best placed on a shelf or the floor to get the most out of it cheers keep up the great work.
Great info I have a dehumidifier set at 45% so far not had issues thanks for the reminder about humidity.
Very cool!
Thankfully I don't have that issue but the video was very good. Thanks Jason.
Alright Jason! Thanks for sharing sir!
Thanks for watching!
Very informative video! I just purchased the monitor that you showed..thanks!
Cool! I hope it works great. : -)
I found an old accurite humidity and temp reader in and old box of Junk and it still worked 😅 moved it to the fish room and it's been awesome!!
Nice find! :-)
Thank you so much for this video. Great topic. We should have considered this long ago, even before we had 8+ tanks running in a one bedroom apt. We’re in Houston, TX. Humidity is 100% outside this morning. Getting a monitor ASAP. My sinuses have been horrible this year. We have lids on all our tanks, but I’m sure our levels are high in here. Thank you for all the tips.
Just calculated. We have 268 gallons total running at the moment. More to come. ;-)
Lowering humidity may help!
I did some research and on top of this I found why I have weird sinus issues and my mother coughing always because sometimes we'd blast our humidifier thinking it will help with our sinus but actually when I got a humidifier tester I checked and it said 70% inside the apt 😬 it was 53% outside so we just ordered a dehumidifier now that inside is 53-55% we feel a little better.. ice always had this issue with my sinus but never knew why I had it. so mold can have a huge impact on sinus.
Great topic Jason! Keep the fish room maintence videos coming👍🏻👍🏻😎
Will do!
U inspire me
great video
Great info, think some don't even give this a thought.
Thank you!
Great topic for people to think about! I run 5 dehumidifiers myself and have to empty them about 1.5 times a day even without tops. I like how the humidity monitor captures the range of humidity per day.

Do you ever use the water in your shrimp tanks? I know fellow club members you use a little bit because it softens their water.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I have used it in the tanks with no issues.
I'm running 2 70 pint just for a 1400sqft basement. And I use the water for my discus tank since its so low in tds just like RO water. I do treat it first before adding. Now that it's winter 35° and lower in Ohio, my house needs humidity because the furnace is making such dry heat so they barely run at all right now.
Damn dude! My Frigidaire 70 pint ads around $50 a month to the electric bill. You must have an insane bill!
I just bought this guage, thanks for the tip. Mine is reading 68% upstairs. Looking at dehumidifiers. I'm asthmatic. Was wondering why I was having such issues lately. Not sure what changed. My lityle dial meter always showed normal levels.
Glad it helped!
Will a regular split type aircon controls the humidity?
I never knew this!
same here. Now i'm concerned. recently got a 40 breeder with a fancy goldfish and it smells bad.
Seeing as you have a dedicated fish room, did you enclose and somewhat seal the room as well? Maybe you installed insulation too, if you are heating the whole room?
I actually didn't have to because the basement holds temperature remarkably well!
I have the new version of that thermometer!!
Here in Southern California, it's not even 50% humidity when its raining.... ;)
I seen my monitor say 70-80% here in northern cali on rainy and foggy days. Inside I have seen 60-70% so I am considering getting a dehumidifier for the winter. Maybe next year.
Ah Com'on a little black mold never hurt anybody. LOL 💀⚰
Jason, Have you done any discussions about evaporation? (This was the only video that came up when I searched your channel...)
I have been dealing with it just during water changes, but I lose about half a gallon per week. Years ago I would leave a bucket out and let the chlorine evaporate in 24 hours, but then the water would drop to 74 degrees, but I had other 'tropical fish' at the time and didn't keep the temperature much higher than room temp.
My fish don't seem to mind water changes, as I always pretreat the tank before adding in tap water at 84 degrees. Should I just top off weekly and be sure to do the pretreat, or what would you consider a best practice recommendation?
I talk about it here: ua-cam.com/video/WvvbDSEE9bs/v-deo.html
If it's possible to cover your tank that is the best way to avoid it. In tanks where that is not possible I just fill it when I do water changes once per week.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks! I'll check it out. I have your typical plastic cover with a half-lid to lift and feed them, but the back of it was originally cut for a hangover the side filter. Now we have a canister filter and I think I have a lot of evaporation from there...
We live on the oregon coast and it seems impossible to keep the humidity down. We tried when we first moved here and now we just live with it.
I'm sure that's got to be hard to deal with! : -)
I have about 28 gallons collectively of aquariums throughout the upstairs of my house, 5 gallons have a lid and I plan on putting a lid over all but one 5 rimless. My dad is concerned about mold and humidity. I don’t think it is going to be a problem right?
It usually isn't if the tanks are covered, there is no over-spray from filters and no excess water is hitting the floor when doing tank maintenance.
I hate humidity! Makes my hair frizzy lol But seriously great video ☺
I have the same problem with my beard. haha
I have a terrible black mold outbreak from having 3 fish tanks, they are small too under the size of 20 gallons. The mold is not on the floor or the walls from careless water spilling.. It's on the ceiling directly above where my fish tanks are on their shelves. Now I have no idea what to do.
If the tanks aren't covered you could certainly add lids - that should help keep moisture of the ceiling. They do sell a product called Kilz Primer (Mildew Resistant Finish). You would have to remove the mold first (be very careful when doing that and make sure you research how to do it safely), then use the primer.
do you know if a dehumidifier can produce heat? i need more heat in my basement b,c its a very large area? any help would be great
It sure does! It produces quite a bit of heat in fact. During the spring and fall it supplies all the heat I need in my basement to keep it at 82 degrees F.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics would this be the same on all humidifiers?
I believe it is - at least for every one I have ever seen.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics ok thanks for the help i order a meter and waiting to see what its at and then ill go from there,
I use moisture rid or calcium chloride that sucks up a lot of moisture and a fan in the room and it works great and I treat my walls for mold once a year in the basement but a great video and a dehumidifier is a great way to go I just try to keep down on my electric cost I'm a cheapo LOL
Does the dehumidifier take a lot of water from the tanks?
Not if the tanks are covered.
I always see mine in a 24 X 24 size cabin at 70% & that's WITHOUT tanks so what's THAT tell you & I live in Indiana.
Even in the winter?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics yep all year round
I have an air conditioner running in 24/7 in my fish room but the humidity is still 63, is something not right here? I have the humidity tester, I have covered fish tanks but just two of them
A dehumidifier would get it back down into the low 50s? That’s usually close to ideal?
#1 cover your tanks. The drier the air the more evaporation years ago when I had my fish I struggled keeping house dry I had over 400 tanks in my basement. Having a refrigeration background I decided to make a 1 ton dehumidifier I was able to remove 3.5-5 gals of water per hour but evaporation increases. My final solution was to vent 100 cfm’s continuously it was a waste of heat in the winter but it accomplished two things dehumidification and fresh air exchanges today there’s relatively cheap heat exchangers on the market if you have the space I believe it’s the only way to go. Another option other than a humidifier is a hybrid water heater we all use hot water and these things remove your humidity as an added benefit. A humidifier running can be expensive in electric.
Thanks for sharing! Always nice to hear from someone who understands the HVAC side of things!
Is it possible to reuse that water that is collected by the dehumidifier and purifier with osmosis and dump it back in the aquarium?
@@alexafa316 no dehumidifier water comes in contact with metal coils might contain heavy metals
@@lou198 gotcha! Buying RO freshwater is honestly pretty cheap better do that.
Luckily my portable AC I use has a built in dehumidifier. It's crazy how much water pours out of it
That’s cool. I know, once our bucket started filling twice a day I was surprised!
Se pões tampas num aquário estás a comprometer as trocas gasosas e o oxigénio que a água recebe é estas a baixar a qualidade da agua do aquário.
estas falando galego o portugues?
THE ONLY FRIGIDAIRE DEHUMIDIFIER I FOUND WAS FAD 301 NWD - IS THIS THE SAME MODEL YOU HAVE - PARDON THE CAPS ,IT'S EASIER FOR ME TO READ -THANKS
I'm not sure? The two features I look for are adjustability and it has a large collection bucket if you go that route.
Everytime i put a dehumidifier in my house it pulls water from my tank. It has a lid on it, how can i prevent this?
The tighter the lid the less of an issue you will have. For us it’s still a necessity given how many tanks we have.
What would you consider to high of a Humidity for you comforts? I'm in CA, and have no where near as many tanks as you, but if I keep the doors and windows shut, it'll creep up to 40% or so. I guess we're just dry out here! 😂
Most sources say between mid/upper 30's to about mid 40's. Sounds like you are in good shape!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I figured as much, I actually did buy one if the acurite weather humidity reader things, and I love it. But even with just 50 gallons of water total, it actually jumped up in my room by about 10%, so it definitely makes a difference!
Just stay dry. ..nice video. .
Mines 59-63% usually
I wish I could keep my fishroom in the 80's in the winter. I can't keep it over 72° :(
We luck out because our furnace is down there. When I open up the vent it's usually a constant 82 degrees!
Excellent vid to a smelly fishy house!
set it and forget it like the rotisserie chicken from Ron Popeil
Nice!
If your budget is super tight, Seran wrap is a super cheap way to cover a tank. Just don't make a perfect seal, leave a bit of a gap for your airline, heater cord, etc.
Can humidity in a fish room harm the fishes?
Nope - just humans :-)
Yes daddy 😂🙂
