I started with one tank 2 years ago(75g). Went high tech planted March 2019. Spent a lot of time researching with UA-cam. Bought 15 tanks July dollar per gallon, drilled out most of them. Ran out of money and bought what was necessary, air driven filtration, drain system with sump pump to laundromat sink. 55g drum, pump, drip emitters, pressure gauge, auto water change system perfected late November, last light bought early January along with last substrate. Your vids and info made my fish room dream easy. TYVM! My tip is to add drain access in designated areas towards front of bottom tanks to help with gravel vac and use a mesh bag with a strap to catch solid waste. All you need is a T joint, pipe, elbow and maybe a end cap
Terry Hutson This is too funny I think going through the exact same process the past two years just purchased the substrate for all of my tanks today. Hopefully everything will be up and running in the next month or two
Terry Hutson I’ve been having some trouble with my drip. The the hose attached to the jhemco drip emitters keep getting air in them and the drip stops. Any suggestions or did you have this problem
Yeah, I had a lot of issues at first with the drip emitters. The pressure gauge helped me correct it. If pressure goes to high like over 40psi the emitter will collapse inside its self and clog. I had to switch to 5 gph emitters to drop pressure under 40. Once I added more tanks to the system I was able to put 2.5gph emitters on the smaller tanks. The pump seems to work best between 20 and 30psi.
This video came across my youtube today and reminded me how many times I watched it before we built our shell dweller fish room last year. Just want to say Thank You :)
Agree 100% with everything you said. Wish more of my tanks were on auto water change and still regret it to this day. Of course there are a few other considerations that need to be made such as electric, insulation, heating the room vs individual tanks, etc., but your advice is solid. Thanks 👍
Jadren Aquatics I agree !! I’ve been planing for quite some time now, any suggestions on some egg laying fish that I can breed in 10 or 20 g tanks. I want to try and breed most of the fish for my setup.
You must have been think of me when you did this … which is why I am moving my "Frankenstein" setup in my bedroom to my garage! lol I agree … with continuing to expand, my biggest regret is entirely manual water change. On the positive note, I am always checking my tanks cause I have to since no auto change. But it IS getting harder and harder and I continue to research ways to customize a autochange system.
Very good stuff! Drain and how to get water! I failed my first few attempts using buckets(man they are heavy!), then the pond pump came into my life. Then having a water faucet put in to fill a 33 Gallon to pump. Been an event over the last few years for sure. Good work Jason!
Jason I have a somewhat smallish room and like all aquarists, I am putting tanks in every free/available space. I don't have a floor drain or a way to get the water out of my room. I also don't have a I don't really have a good water supply all that close to my room either.
@@JadrenAquatics I saw how you drilled tanks which was super helpful. I'm curious as I breed guppies what I would do with the fish/plants as I'm drilling tanks? 5 gallon buckets??
Sponge or matten filter for sure with some type of centralized air system. I used linear piston pumps because of the power, low electricity consumption and little noise.
The tip on vertical spacing was great. I'm wondering how recessing each row would affect that 8 inch recommendation? For instance if each row was set back 6 inches or so?
Great video the only thing I would ad is a large maybe 500 gallon underground tank for sump pump to drain into .Then you can use tank water on lawn or garden.Try tofu feeding for your fish ,shrimp and snails, extra firm works best cut or crumble for different sizes. Pleco’s love it and have to LFS feeding.
Helping... 1 - Plan; 2 - DO a drainage system; 3 - Determine what kind of tanks you wil have; 4 - Space between the lid and the top (8 inches); 5 - Leave a space behind the tanks (consider your size); 6 - Leave a good space in the middle of the room;
I actually probably won't be able to build one until maybe 5 or 10 years but I want to keep it in the back of my mind I'd like it to be a place where it feels like home to be honest not just a room with a bunch of stuff
I know this is a super old video but what shelves are those? I need some really strong shelves for my room and I’m scared to buy one and then it break later
I've had up to 12 and I only seem to want more but my landlord said no so I got three so what I'm doing is I actually have a tank that I practice aquascaping on and I hide it under the desk and then I also rescue fish well so far just one and I'm going to restore him and I'm going to have him live in that tank until I find a home for him right now he's in a small one gallon hospital tank it gets saltwater dips and fresh almond leaf water everyday. just after 3 days his color is starting to emerge but he's going to need a couple months of healing he's got melted fins and little holes in his fins but he can swim and open his fins which means he's not completely on desk door so with the salt dips and stuff he should be able to recover plus good high quality pellets and maybe some frozen blood
Hi Jadren Aquatics. I am 19 and have 7 or 8 tanks but no way to get an automatic drain or drip system :-(. I have 6 tanks in my room right now and am trying to figure out how I am going to set them up and where I am going to put them. I purchased 5 tanks impulsively only because I never see dollar per gallon sales around me. I am also not allowed to use my python to pump water into my tanks. I do use it to siphon water out.
What u think about glass lids on aquarium? I read, a time ago, that stopping the evaporation of water, can bring some problems to the aquarium... But I'm not sure if it's correct.
I have polycarbonate lids on all my tanks, it keeps the heat in and means the heater doesn't work so hard, reduces the amount of evaporation and depending on how high your water level is in the tanks the splashing effect on walls and floor from the filters or bubbles etc..
I can't see glass being a problem at all in fact it reduces the amount of evaporation and holds heat in much better than my polycarbonate. Negative is the price of glass
Planning? What’s that?? I only have 5 tanks in the garage at the moment... slowly adding 2 at a time. Going with 40B. 20L are ok, but 10s are too small for me. All great tips I shall try and remember...
I agree that planning is absolutely fundamental to having a fish room.

Main thing that slows me down is the wife but I’m blessed with a good one so I stay within a monthly budget or at least try to
Fantastic ideas! Glad I was able to help you out

Yes to ALL of this...great vid, Jason!
Thanks Dan and thanks for the shout out!
Great video!
And dont forget " can my floor handle my obsession?" Lol
Lol good point
Thanks for posting this. This kind of practical advice is what I watch UA-cam for.
Even thought you didn't plan your fish room it's still awesome Jason. Great video too🐟🐟👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much!
Thanks Jason, some great knowledge and advice.
Planning is so important. Measuring and planning for each stand and tank saved me a massive headache when I started building.
Yep I completely agree!
I’ve been waiting for a video like this I literally am just starting one now with 10 tanks so far
Awesome nothing more exciting than starting a fish room from scratch

Love your videos. Someday I want a fishroom like yours
Love your advice!
Thanks!
Jadren Aquatics Glad you are back! You seem to be enjoying yourself!
Great video, I didn't want to build a fish room because I'm more of a tanks all around the house kind of guy, but I do now.

I've got quite a few out there but I'll try and do a fully updated one thanks

Great video. Thank you for sharing. One question though, what's the estimated daily water usage and the monthly water bill?
I wish I could like this video 10x because I wish I would have done a lot of this before I jumped in.
Lol thanks so much!
thanks

Joined your Patreon account Jason. Btw I wear 2x.
Thank you so much I really appreciate it! I'll get that shipped this week
Jason I notice in the video you have your digital meters on the wall. How do you attach them to the wall?
Which meter are you referring to?

What clear plastic are you using as lids for your tanks?
Polycarbonate
