That was some great knapping. Keokuk is probably my favorite material. Most of it retains a tiny bit of its raw toughness and really likes a beefy platform no matter what stage. Some of the really high-grade is more prone to radial break sort of like obsidian though.
The bevel is not worng in either direction, it just lets you know if the knapper was right or left handed. The bevel comes from resharpening while the point is hafted and the bevel appears one or the other depending on which side the shaft lies behind the knapper, the left or right.

Perhaps I under valued Keokuk. I was just working my fist 'load' of Keokuk last night. I'd say that was a fine job for 10 minutes. Gnarly!

Keokuk is great stuff. It’s super consistent and very predictable. It also doesn’t hurt that the guy who owns the quarry is as good as they come.
