Gulf Coast Knapping
Приєднався 21 тра 2017
If you're interested in learning how to make arrowheads from the Gulf Coastal region, you're in the right place! My name is Jake Anderson and I love to flintknapp. I've been doing it about 3 years and thought it would be awesome to share my knowledge with those just starting this hobby, or for those interested in the craft. I hope you consider subscribing as I will try to post one video each week!

Nice work buddy ! Texas gulf coast ?
Good job with this, Jake! I like the coloring in this too. 👍
Dang! That's a huge piece. I get nervous just looking at it. You're braver than I am. 👍
The stem on those is so odd to me. Why did they choose that base style, what was the advantage the saw?
That guy Danny Collins puts bees wax on his points at the end and it really shines up the rock and also as a side product hides hinges
Love the boggy point. Let’s see a “DANISH DAGER” any type!
I love it when you get into your opinions on points and point types. I tend to agree with what you’re saying.
Beautiful
You should make a flint sword type it in on Google it's like a macuahuitl but more sword like
Pretty peice of flint
😂 But ugly Quartz Just guessing. You like that because it's cheap. Certainly not because it's pretty.😂
This is the first time I've seen you break something at all in the 3 years I've been watching you. The ratio of breakage is what I use to break down proficiency, kind of to tell myself whether I'm doing good in the craft or not. If you can make several without breaking a single one, that's when you know fs that you're good at it. I always tell myself that if you can pump out 20 before breaking one, than your getting close to becoming a master. Anyone reading this, don't take my word too personally, as I do it to get myself to strive for the highest of the high in craftmanship. Just cause one can't pump out that many without breakage doesn't mean you haven't mastered it, as masters still break things quite often. 🫡
That piece had a lot going on structually and I`m sure you saw it. Nonetheless you can make two pretty good points now. Did you mention if the rock was heat treated or not? It seemed to be un-treated or wouldnt have been as brittle? You could treat the pieces you have to help finish them off?
Yeah. A bummer, but not much you can do about it after the fact. I'm glad to see you show a good example of having something go wrong, and not letting it totally get you down. More people need that nowadays, especially kids. Experiencing failure is good because then when you experience success, it's so much better.
For a Stone that is so plain Jane. It offers Up A myriada of headaches. There is so much awesome large Brazilian Agate. pieces Out there, give it a shot.
There's a saying, "If you ain't breaking 'em, you ain't making 'em."
Don't feel too bad. Some original points made thousands of years ago come with hinges. Even the old ones of years past had this problem. It's still a masterpiece. 2 points now to do, great job no matter how you Knapp it.
35:04 OOF
Did you notice how the tone of your strikes kept getting lower each time larger flakes came off?
Let me know if you want to try moose antler on that stuff. I’ve got a few I collected in AK a few years ago
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video.
Please, I'd like to purchase some of that
Would you share his information
Lol I'm American Indian/ Native American/ whatever the government or whoever is labeling at a given time. Myself I do knap and I believe that you are a lot more precise than I am keep it up.
There’s that saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” If the tools you are using work for you, then keep using them. Tools probably work differently for everyone depending of their skill level and technique.
Beutiful...on to part 3😊
Your work is amazing! Your direct percussion skills are superb
Looks good have you ever tried knapping Rhyolite it can be difficult but fractures clean most times .
Holy cow, that is a chunk of rock!
Looking great, I can see a lot of practice and mistakes that have made you and your work have paid off. You know when to hold them and when to fold them. Rest your back, looking forward to part 2.
7:30 insanely relatable. My keepers case is almost all doubles
VERY NICE!!, love the finished pickwick. You are so talented. Thank you for sharing your masterpiece' s with us.
How much do you charge to make me want them for Christmas
Another AWESOME Pickwick!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@9wire thanks a bunch! My hands hurt
Well done, my friend! Looks quite nice after all your hard work! Ya got quieter at the end. I could tell you were focused well on things. No one wants to flub things at the end of doing something great- like you with this point. Just focusing on the work at hand was what you needed there.
@@bowens8903 thanks buddy! Yeah sometimes I just gotta think haha so I appreciate you bearing with me, although I’m sure you didn’t mind. Thanks for the kind words
Nope, didn't mind at all. Totally understand too as you were devoted and concentrated on finishing it up nicely. 👍
Love your videos! You've become my favorite knapping channel.
Hey you should grab a grinding stone from your yard if you still haven’t ordered a new abrader
Why do they call it a Pickwick ? Or what is the meaning of it?
Coming along beautifully!!!!! Awesome work!
any tips for a beginner?
Man where’s part 3
@@wentcoastal7778 it’s coming in the next few days don’t worry😂😂
Me and Marshall same WhatsApp
this is my favorite point. jake would you mind teaching me some things? i live in tn. love to meet up one day. one of the most watched knappers on yt for me.
I think you are an excellent knapper, I really like your style of knapping. Fun to watch and your results are excellent.
Love you videos. I’d love to master that free hand style and knocking off those huge thin flakes on big thin bifaces. I have a pretty bad eye injury from. past elk hunt and don’t have depth perception and it makes it very difficult for me to be super accurate with my strike . Love watching you guys that can do that knock that stuff off. I’m trying to figure out your holds to keep pieces from snapping when you work on the ends .
Great knapping, great material. A couple thoughts for your consideration, the snot rockets are quite unappealing and longer shorts or pants you dont have to keep pulling at would help not detract from the knapping. Thanks for the content.
I’m not interested in doing this, I’m interested in it. I love your dedication to the craft. I know nothing about it. It seems like this is something we should all either be able to do, or know someone who can. So interesting and useful.
Superb knapping. Anyone who fusses at you for not doing ABO is either ignorant or insanely jealous.
@@macbailes9953 thanks!
Went to knap in at Huntsville.....Picked up some jasper from Jeff and we talked about you! We both agree, your abilities are awesome. Got some fairly good rock to knapp. Glad I went.
@@randyburleson8273 awesome! Would’ve loved to had gone
