@@silentwalker-ns9cyI’m very happy for the purchase I made. I use mostly Linux and VMs but win11 runs good as well! Paid 280€ for i7, fingerprint scanner, backlit keyboard, wwan modem and an overall good condition
@@SimplyTheBestCSGO I have one, the trackpad is good, supports all common gestures, the trackpoint takes getting used to but it seems fairly precise, I find I end up using both depending on where my hands are. Excellent review, thank you! Every couple months, I would daydream about getting a new laptop, and I kept finding and watching this review. I never found a brick & mortar that carried any of these models, and it was so helpful to get the size/weight/screen side-by-side comparison. Anyway, I finally settled on the T480s, and I'm loving it, thanks for your review!
Lisa!!!! OMG you're so still doing these reviews, I bought my ultrabook after watching your reviews of it, it's been with me for 10 years! And here we are again haha I wonder if you're still reviewing laptops in 2024...
Lisa...love your reviews. Always so fair and thorough. I checked the Lenovo website and the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GDDR5 2GB is limited to vPro processors. Not sure if that's due to an engineering requirement or if it's a sales decision, but that's the way it's configured on the website. If you select either of the vPro processors offered, you will then have the option to swap out the Intel GPU for NVIDIA.
Yes, im Germany you can get the MX150 e.g. via www.campuspoint.de/lenovocampus-thinkpad-t480s-20l8s02e00.html ... it has also been tested so far www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T480s-i7-8550U-MX150-Max-Q-Laptop.287372.0.html . The WQHD-Display seems to be much better then the FHD!
hey lisa, I love thinkpads, and I love that we get to compare all 3 major candidates, but adding one latitude and one elitebook to the bussiness tier comparision video would be amazing.
Really wanting to see the ThinkPad P52s. Your comparison of the T480, T480s, and X1 Carbon is a great idea, but also a comparo of the T580 and T52s is what I'm looking for! :D
I recently purchased this one. I get approximately 5.8 hours of battery backup with fedora(heavy usage). Which I believe its expected(any comments??) Apart from display as mentioned in the video, its super awesome. Worth for the money.
Life changing video. I had never noticed the Lenovo keyboard manager shown at 8:23. The only real gripe I have with my X1 yoga is the weird FN key placement. Now all is right in the world.
Another awesome review Lisa! I just hope that you’ll do some reviews for entry level laptops for students who just needs to do basic tasks on a laptop that won’t break the bank. Really looking forward to that! 😊
Please do a comparison between the t480, t480s, and the x280! They are all kinda similar and I’m quite confused on which to get. Great video as always!
Inkwell T. Mouse well you can upgrade the second battery (one is built in, another one in the back). Upgrade ram till 32gb DDR4, choose FHD or 4k screen (went with the 4k, 16gig, i7 v8650 and the 256 opal drive). A full-size SD slot, which I love u can alsways use an adapter for micro SD. USB c thunderbolt + USB 3, type C charging and more. U can upgrade the SSD as well...thought about doing a quick kinda "review" soon?
Great review as always, Lisa. You're the best! That T480s is a compelling notebook...and if I were in the market that would be on my short list. However, my almost 6-year-old T430s is still spectacular. It has 16 gb of RAM and a 512 gb SSD. The display isn't the best, but fine for my needs. It's pretty much bulletproof and the Ultrabay is extremely useful.
is it possible you used the same SSD benchmark screen shot for multiple reviews (may be by mistake) t480 review 4:12: ua-cam.com/video/puJewEKS_1Y/v-deo.html t480s review 7:37: ua-cam.com/video/uvWq9fS4eCU/v-deo.html or 8 different tests got exact same speeds up to the milliseconds?
The MX150 is quite a bit better than the 8th Gen UHD Graphics . The MX150 is a Mobile GT 1030. The MX150 is better than a 950M. It's not very low end for a mobile GPU. You should opt for a MX150 when getting a T480s, especially when you want to game and do video editing and whatnot.
I returned my T480s because of the keyboard... I'm aware Lenovo uses multiple manufacturers for their parts and I just got unlucky. Lisa's is definitely using the highest quality parts to be reviewed.
Hi Lisa, fantastic review! I'm between this and the t480. I'm wondering which of the two runs quieter? I noticed the t480s has a heatsink which should help with dissipating heat. On the other hand, the t480 is less cramped inside. Any help with these questions will be greatly appreciated!
The version with MX150 is available in Germany, but only in Lenovo's campus program (= only available for students and teachers, and it comes without an OS)
It looks like the key travel is less on here than on the T480. Is that right? 'Cause that's weird that my trusty T440s would have the same key travel as the T480, but not the T480s?
The #1 difference between non-S and S models is the simple fact that you get carbon fiber on the S models. I've made the mistake of buying a non-carbon fiber lenovo laptop just once in a T460p and the plastic is just horrible! Speaking of the P, that is probably why you can't get the MX150 in the T480s yet. I'm just sure what Lenovo is doing.
You can do auctions on the side. Awesome review. I just bought the Costco version of this T480s Model 20L7S01200 with i7-gen 8, 15GB memory and 512GB SSD for $1250. Good to know its upgradable which i will do in a few years when the warranty runs out. I like my laptops to last at least 6 years and hope this on is up for the longhaul. I watched your video twice - a lot of the stuff you mentioned, i have no idea what you are talking about. I do like photos, creating videos, music etc... But mainly use for MS office docs, business stuff. It didn't come with the touch screen. Is that something that can be changed later? Thank you for feedback.
R us sure about upgrading the ssd because on Reddit, they say it is upgradable and they even say that the default one is as as fast as aftermarket ones
What's the benefit of having FullHD or even higher resolution on a 12,5" or 14" laptop? I loved my old HP Pavilion's 15,6" size and 1366x768 resolution. I could read everything with ease.
I was wondering whats the deal with the different thunderbolt options. I keep hearing about the generations & throughput but, I also hear that X4 channels is super important especially if looking at using an external GPU :/
MobileTechReview hey Lisa, great review. Ever consider a smackdown between Lenovo and Dell? Like having the T480s go up against the Latitude 7490, or maybe even the Carbon X1 against the 7390?
Does the 1920*1080 FHD screen make reading hard? Do you have to upscale webpage for readability? why the small 14 inch screen needs that high resolution. I like a T480s with lower resolution for daily usage.
Absolutely looking forward to the 4 ThinkPad smack down. If possible can you show or discuss the docking options? As for the Nvidia graphics option I've seen where this is only available through channel only SKU's. I have a T460s with Nvidia GeForce in it and the model was never listed on the Lenovo website.

German site released an extensive test: www.notebookcheck.com/Test-HP-EliteBook-840-G5-i5-8250U-SSD-Full-HD-Laptop.289998.0.html ... Display difference seems to be a huge upgrade in comparison to G4.
For me I still can work in a driver seat by open it almost full range and rest the display against the steering wheel. Some occasions that I parked and wait for something for short time. It's not very comfortable but it can.
Screen display of the T480s is really dim. When you face to face with the screen is fine but when you move your head to the right or left its actually turns really bad that you could not see anything..🤔
So the old T440s has become the new T480... Hard drive bay, good color gamut screen and bridge battery!!! I cannot live with out that massive 72wh battery! Similar weight actually!

Maybe this is a strange question, but what is the purpose of allowing the laptop to unfold completely flat at 180 degrees, but not beyond?
HxCPokemonMaster May be to prevent the damage to the hinge mechanic when you accidentally press against? My guess, ( I wanna know the answer too...)
