- Although the 2004 Reunion Tour wasn't all too bright, there were a few moments that shined some like this one right here. A great father/son moment on stage.
=VH=
Wolfgang literally saved Ed’s life. He was a major factor in Ed getting clean and sober finally. Hopefully this time it’s for good. Thanks for saving your old man, Wolf!
One of the coolest vh videos . Love this . Surprise evh with his son his evh birthday
Rip EVH.. 1/26/1955 - 10/6/2020
@John Clayton yes it did
RIP EVH. You are sorely missed and you will never be forgotten.
The king is gone but he is not forgotten. Rock on EVH, GOD IS IN YOUR FRONT NOW. have a good time with him..
He's crying at the beginning very emotional he was a mess but people were still chanting his name giving him some love.
Who cried Eddie or Wolfgang?

When he leans in and kisses WolfGang.I didn't see Eddie the guitar god,I saw a father who loves his son.RIP....EVH
Same here I shed tears every time I think of it.
So much respect for his Father , So much love for his Son.. Very heart felt...👍
I wish i could know that feeling of a dad so in touch with his son.. i wish...
When I became a father something fundamental changed in me. It didn't mean I became a better person but the first time I held my daughter I could feel something had changed deep inside. I don't think that happens to everybody but I can tell it's what happened to Eddie. The love he has for Wolf just shines and they are/were very lucky to have that bond. It's beautiful to see and takes me back. Tearing up now, gotta go.
@@winnterzkrossing2194 I wish it for you as well. I am the father of one son and we couldn't be closer if we tried. I can't even begin to describe the love.
A couple of ways to look at this performance now given that Eddie is gone. At that point, Ed was a train wreck on so many levels. 2004 was a really low point regarding his health and his ability to play the instrument. It was all a painful mess. The upside is that he was able to remarry, move on with his life, make a huge comeback, have a couple of successful tours, a great studio album, reconcile with Dave, produce a solid live cd and appear live on Kimmel. It really was a great comeback. So long, Eddie. Thanks for the memories and the music.
It was beautiful to watch the two together
Very nice. I will always stand by my thought that even with all his demons at that time - he always loved his son and Valerie. I even believe he still had love and respect for Sam and Michael as well. I was glad to see him clean up and have another moment in the sun so to speak.
Well said 🙂
A great effort to come back to life.
We know that only music cant save the human being. The love can do it.
2007 wasn't any better
Seeing this close bond between them I can't even imagine what Wolfie is going through right now...

He isnt going through anything that everybody else in the world has or will go through at some point.
he seems ok to me. at some point he realized that his dad gonna say goodbye soon. eddie had extended years.
I was thinking the same thing.
Exactly 7 months ago today the world mourned the passing of ROCK N ROLL ROYALTY. RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN. OFTEN IMITATED...NEVER DUPLICATED !!! NEVER WILL AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED
Eddie sure loves his son, respect him more for that than his guitar playing, what a great man.
So 👍 true. Wolfe huge influence on pops lots of love there and beyond. So so Sad 😥 he got taken from us, as well remember heart breaking wolf lost his father best friend . Wolfie, his song 🎵 omg I have not felt emotions tears pouring down my face 😢 💔 since my own folks left this rock... Eddie was an amazing person musician and above all father to Wolf. If you ever wondered what unconditional true love looks like, between a Father and Son looks like, your search is over. Beautiful.
the way wolfie and eddie were looking at each other: that was very touching.
Wolfgang always wanted to be just like his dad in every aspect of the word dad you can just tell he really loved and adored his father such a moving tribute my sincerest condolences are with the family and friends and legions of followers (stans) of the late great Eddie Van Halen. he will be sorely missed . I am deeply sorry this is a very excruciating and devastating loss for anyone who enjoys Rock n Roll ❤️
Very nicely worded. Even with Eddies demons - you could tell he always loved his Son and Valerie. What’s amazing is that I knew I heard this song since 86. Then it came out on Carnal Knowledge as 316. Never knew the name of it until then. It’s Wolfs birthdate. Eddie never gave the track a name until he was born.
@@michaelberry1382 thank you so much for the sweetest compliment ❤️ I have been a fan of Eddie's band Van Halen seems like forever ❤️ I am black and my friends think that I am weird because I enjoy listening to rock n roll ❤️
@@katymartin5026 No weirder than his white boy being a downright die hard Ray Charles and any Motown group freak. Music knows no barrier. Nor race. I guess that made Ice T weird as well when he formed Body Count. (Which by the way I was huge fan of his rap and when he came out with Body Count- I thought I went to heaven)😂. As far as your post- it’s always a post that doesn’t observe race. Any good father or good son could feel the pain and love with what you wrote. My dads been gone 22 years (he was only 53) and I wish I had one more fishing trip on the Detroit River or on Lake Erie with him. Just one more. I’m sure Wolfie is thinking that way. I’m sure Alex is thinking that. I’m sure Sam ,Dave and Michael are thinking that. I know we fans are thinking that. You just had a very lovely sweet and sincere post.
@@katymartin5026 oops meant “this white boy” not “his”. Meaning me. 😂
@@michaelberry1382 oh my goodness gracious Michael I don't. know just where to begin replying- responding I guess I'll just start by asking did you share a comment on this video? (Just wondering) some people don't share comments but view comments there's at least 1000or more comments I'm just asking in general because I love when people read my comments and like what they are reading and not only did you read my comments you supported it as well by sharing your opinion so I just wanna return the favor? It's probably going to be hard to find you out of 1000 or more comments. I don't generally like to comment on music videos unless I am somehow someway inspired by their music I do find it odd that you enjoy listening to ice tea wow you're really shaking things up s bit you really took me way back ,like way back ,ice tea was really known for pimping but then he turned his life around and retired from pimping & rapping and got into acting i am not too familiar with any of his music, even though I do like rap sometime I am not that great with understanding the lyrics and lyrical meanings I guess I am more into the production and music part of it believe it or not, I love opera, rock n roll , folk, RB doesn't matter the artist as long as the music inspires me moves me spiritually , the first time I heard of Van Halen was back on the eighties and that is when I became a fan and another thing I was already familiar with his wife and son they have always been an awesome family losing a loved one is painful it's going to take some healing ❤️
I remember the mess Eddie was in for this tour, it was hard to watch him in such shape. I was waiting to hear the bad news back then, but I believe his son saved his life. It’s heart wrenching to lose Eddie, especially for his family. But Eddie cleaned up for his son I believe. To get to witness the difference in Eddie up until 2015 was a blessing and I’m thankful that Wolfgang got to have what he did with his Dad. The incredible part is just how good Wolfgang really is. Imagine the pride Eddie must have felt. Good grief it’s hard to believe he’s really gone. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with Wolf, Al, Eddies wife Janie, and Valerie. Thanks for changing rock guitar forever Eddie, you are forever the GOAT.
This is just what you want to think. Purely based in fantasy.

Like Wolfgang said. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift... Eddie was a proud and loving father. You can see the love between the two of them. ❤️
Eddie looked way better in his 60s than he did in his 40s. Crazy.
It's because he was a such a mess in '04, He was in a bad mental state & a drunken mess, Thanks to his son for helping him greatly get sobered up and a lot more healthy
He was going through a bad time. But he pulled his self out. RIP🎸🎸🎸🎸

Eddie used to play this when Valerie was pregnant and it used to always calm Wolfgang down..Wolfgang was born on March 16th..(3/16)..😉
You can see Eddie really enjoys playing guitar with Wolfie
The love Ed is not afraid to show the world EVER. The Guitar 🎸 Slayer and his only son belting out 316 Wolfgang's BD, together onstage. I wish I had been there for this very emotional performance. ED IS THE KING 👑 OF GUITAR ROYALTY.

No doubt part of Wolfie's heart will be broken forever. I'm certain their connection has been intense over the years...the bonding over their music, never to be replaced. This is an enormous loss Wolfie will work to get through for the remainder of his life...I'm so sad for him...he lost not only his father & mentor, but his best friend. 💔

Done listened to his new song. I will show him support knowing he won't be some Eddie clone, which is what Eddie wanted, Wolfie to do his thing
What a treat that was for today
Younger generation, here's what it is about Eddie Van Halen; he made us before you love him, just by hearing him on the radio. It was a bold and contagious fervor for life and good fun. I'll never forget how, in the end I saw that Eddie Van Halen was THE best and nothing shy of a Modern Mozart; except actually successful. Eddie embodies everything music is, everything America IS!!! God bless you in Heaven Ed. You spanned the heights from below and naturally floated up to highest glory. I will love your sound Forever!
Great comment bro....I agree, I saw =\//-/= on 1st tour, show#3 with journey & montrose, March 1978...changed my life !!!!! & was there in Row 6 @ HOLLYWOOD BOWL, 10-4-15, the LAST SHOW....& 13 in between....how LUCKY I WAS*

Wolfgang looks completely satisfied to let his dad shine during this father -son moment.
Eddies hands remind me of an old fishermans hands. He has repaired his nets so many times he can watch the sea and his hands know to work by just the feel.Im not sure we will ever know a musician who could play with such "effortless perfection." RIP Eddie.

Most of us look back on fishing or a first beer with our dads.... Wolfie got to play with a Legend in front of thousands. God bless you Eddie, for everything you've given us. Thank you and rest in peace.
May Eddie Van Halen forever rest in peace! We love you!!
That is what you call quality father and son time 😃
Wow! What a touching performance of a father and son. The love they had for each other is heartwarming. Wolfie turned out to be a wonderfully talented guitar player and singer in his own band Mammoth. Eddie would be so proud of what Wolf has accomplished now. God Bless you both. =VH= 4 ever🤘🏼🎸👍
My prayers for Eddie to be in the better place he should be and for Wolfgang and the family for their loss. Just know that Eddie is in a better place with no pain. We on earth are sad he is no longer with us. It is hard to feel it but try and have some happy thoughts he with God and many others and will always be here in his music he gave to the world. God bless Eddie Van Halen and help the hearts of those missing him.
I totally agree with you. He is in a better place. He was corrupted as a very young child into drinking and smoking and that, by no means was his fault, but rather the fault of hideous parenting by his "parents." God shields children and the sick and Eddie was saddled with a lot of baggage from his youth and obvious anxietys and stresses and addictions. He's definitely up there, hand-picked to be in Gods best band and showing all the angels "how it's done." I firmly believe this!
And, kudos to his wife Janie. It sounds like she had no problem with Valerie and by letting them be at his side as he passed, that speaks volumes for the class of both wives, current and ex.
@@alisonb9963 Every action we choose, bad parenting or not. Just saying. Making excuses for a person doesn't show love. Addiction is a real disease but it still starts with a choice. People are people and bad choices don't always come from bad people. At the same time there are folks who have dealt with the worst things imaginable and still make consistent good choices. Why?
Because those around them showed them real love instead of doing the easy thing which is making excuses.
This is the most beautiful moment between a father and a son🎉🎉 Eddie is so proud of Wolfie and it just radiates from his eyes and from his beautiful smile 🎉. Now,you can look down and smile on the man that your son has become 🎉🎉
To have someone you can share your passion and love whether it would be a friend, wife, husband, parent, or in this case your child is truly a amazing thing. You can tell Eddie loved sharing his passion for music with the people he loved and cared about. Rest easy Eddie.
Even in his darkest hours EVH’s love for his only son was impossible to misinterpret. It no doubt extended his life for a little while longer.
Brought me to tears. I lost my Dad and we were close. Can only imagine how thrilled they both were in this moment.
Same. My dad used to have a band in the 70s. In 2010 he did some shows with a friends band singing again and just one show he wanted me to go up and perform with him so I did. We did two Santana covers. Was the coolest moment I shared with my dad. I’ll always remember that now since he passed 4 years ago
I've watched this several times and everytime I watch it I tear up,Totally admire the love that Eddie shows to his Son,Beyond awesome,Love it!!,Was reading that Eddie heard Wolfie's Mammoth album before he passed away and loved it,Love the relationship they had they were super close
I've been looking for this clip...and seriously I'm crying my eyes out right now. My condolences and love go to Wolfgang, Valerie, and their family. Heartbreaking, makes me think of my father who passed away when I was 15. That's an unbreakable bond. R.I.P. Eddie....Thank you.
WOW, EVH is one of my favorite guitarists, but it breaks my heart to see him like this, especially in front of Wolfie! So glad that he found the strength to get sober. I hope he can eventually quit vaping too. His family and friends want the almighty guitar genius Edward around as long as possible.

You can really see the joy in Eddie's face when he's playing with wolfgang. That's so heartwarming. I love it.
You can say whatever you want about eddie, good or bad. But two things are for sure, he loved that kid unconditionally and was one of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar.
That was Awesome!!! How proud Eddie was of his Son Wolfgang.
I remember October 6, 2020 like it was yesterday. Having lost my mom at a young age, I sympathize with Wolfgang deeply. Eddie was my biggest guitar hero, and the single greatest influence on how I sound and play next to Angus and Malcolm Young. The day Eddie passed, I just felt my heart sink lower than ever before. I didn’t want to do anything for the remainder of the day, I just wanted to go home, pop on a Van Halen record and go to sleep in the vain hope that it was just a horrible horrible bad dream. Seeing Ed at arguably a very low point in his life at the time this video was shot resonates so much differently with me now than it did when I first saw it years ago. We see a man, a god among men, a talented musician who rewrote how the guitar was perceived, yet he is battling inner demons that have followed him for decades, and those demons are starting to take a toll on him. We see a broken man, but through the pain and despair, we see his unquenchable determination, and it walks out on stage playing the same song he struggles to play. A young Wolfgang Van Halen, Ed’s son, giving him hope and something to live for. I can’t help but tear up every time I watch this video. Eddie Van Halen, Rest In Peace, good sir
I was at this concert...He has such Love for his Beautiful Son!!!! Thank you Eddie for all the memories that you gave me For 42yrs my heart is so💔😪Now you can RIP.. Love You Eddie ♥️💙🎸🎹🎤🎧🙏☮️
I know Eddie has had his battles with drugs and alcohol but it is still very touching to see him show love to his son on stage. The moment was not lost on him. He knew that was a memory that he and Wolfgang would remember for the rest of their lives. Very touching moment despite dad being pretty f'd up at the time. The emotions he was feeling for his son were real. I'm glad he seems to have turned his life around.
I hear Wolfie played this song at his wedding walking down the aisle with his mom. Also left an empty chair where Eddie would have been. I wish you and your bride a lifetime of happiness. Eddie would have been crying tears of joy to see his little boy continue his journey to becoming a family man
The love and pride shown to Wolfgang here just moved me to tears. RIP Eddie
Epic, a father and son sharing quality time together. It just happens to be in front of alot of people and the guitarist happened to be one of the worlds best and beloved. Eddie's gratitude for the applause when he first sits, real heartfelt emotion. RIP

After almost thirteen years posting this, I feel that I should share a few words.
Pressure lays upon thus grace, crushing stability for yet today. Giveth pain amongst the masses…there might ever be any resolution.
And as we hear, see and wish upon our fallen, we only share the light to what was hidden by their darkness.
As so here we are, another year without a king, may we all wish him eternal peace. For where we might stand a century somehow, we can only let his legacy carry us from now.
Rest In Peace, Edward.

Been watching this on repeat for… way too long now. The lick he plays from 0:50-1:00 is so stunning, even if it’s just a simple variation on an already relatively simple tune. Hard to imagine that this was EVH at his lowest. Sure, he looks terrible and his technique is a bit sloppy, but it’s impossible to deny his feel. I LOVED the affection that Ed showed to his son on stage - he was verbally and physically affectionate, and that goes a long way!
Ive heard and felt all of the guitarists over the years. He made me want to pick one up. So, 32 years ago i built my first wife. Now my 18 year old baby boy with the hair, chops and my mothers given talent is showing me how to rediscover the reason i picked one up to start with. The universe is strange that way.
I wonder if Wolfgang had any idea how fucked up his dad was at this time. Great moment, but Ed destroyed Van Hagar on this tour.
