I guess he better sell his land and kattle. This happened to a friend of mines. His wife died. He and she had life insurance policies. The other baby mother found out and reported to the child support office. He was paying child support faith fully. The child support people froze the man bank account to give the greedy baby mother the money. He was upset. Explained to the child support people that the money was for his children who mother had past away. The child support people did let the baby mother know that it was paid in full. So his children had to struggle. So its not right to take everything from the other party. It should be a reasonable amount. Not from inheritance either. Get you 2 jobs to make your ends meet.

After wrap your head around that one how are you going to make a man that just lost his parents sell the family farm and cows? This just goes to show how sexist and messed up the family court system is. Does her potential income account for anything? How about her assets? When this man loses everything will you then lower his child support? Does the family court entertain the thought this man and his child are going to live in poverty while with him due to this? Not to mention once this man loses everything he won't be able to teach his kid the wonderful life lessons that are learned working on a farm?

That's not really reasonable due to every child/family having different needs. You can't do a generic income and then blanket it across the board. What about those after school activities that cost money that not every child has. What about specific medical conditions that require out of pocket expenses. What about books, supplies, etc for you child outside of the norm, ie, I child that in AP classes. This is why they have a baseline and adjust it accordingly.
If you are not the one there on a day to day bases taking care of the needs, then you should be the one to help lighten the load financially speaking.
Now I will say, I don't agree with child support that is just high for no reason. Such as the NCP making 100,000 and the CP making 30,000 so they give the CP child support based of the NCP's 70,000 income (offsetting it). I honestly believe it should be based on the needs of the child.
But again, if your not the one there on a day to day bases with the child then you should be paying a little more so that the child can do the extra things that they would be able to do if they were in your custody. JS

I'll never understand any location that doesn't take both parents' income into consideration. For example, if the custodial parent is wealthy and the non-custodial is barely making it, I would think it would do a disservice to the child to order support based on the guidelines seen on this show. How could it be in a child's best interests to have a parent who might not even be able to afford a home due to support guidelines (thus causing them not to have visitation)? Or to have a parent suffering from depression because they have lost everything? I do fully believe every parent is responsible for supporting their children, but the guidelines too often sway from what is actually in the best interests of the children.

Hey Vonda B, love your show, the only real question i have is do most support preceedings actually only take that long in real life? it looks like all of the important work is done before the court date with income verifications, and the judge is mostly there to make a final decision and make sure the information that has been gathered is accurate

So he thinks that taking his son to the farm. Getting Free Labor out of his son, baleing hay, milking the cows, stacking hay, feeding the cows, is sufficient Child Support?

Last I checked cows take money/time to raise like a child. Another thing is cows can die, get injured, and have vet bills. Even if you sell the cows, each cow can be valued differently if sold, in case the cow is older could have lesser value, if the cows go to a auction they could be auctioned at a low price that is well below the 40k but it depends on the demand.
It is not logical to make a cow a asset unless it is know to be producing money.
I dont know how does it make sense to 40k of cows can be added to the guys yearly income if he makes 50k a year.
It would sense if you add it for one year, but would matter at this point the kid is almost grown up.
I have another question why is the mother's income not incorporated in the child support payment? I know the mother has custody and is doing her best raise the child, but cant just one person's income into account.

Another lovely law in Texas that caters to women and that it doesn't take the custodial parent's income into consideration or at least the law says the judge doesn't have to but most do!

Y’all know the kid is 16 right? Meaning he only needs to pay 2 years worth of child support and he’s done
