As a kid growing up in the 1990s it was the best experience of my life time and I wish I can go back to the 1990s everything was simple and awesome and this movie is one of my favorite gems of the 1990s ,

*IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS MOVIE SINCE I WAS 16 (23 now)!! My older sister introduced this movie to me when I was 13 and ever now and then I'd think about it and I finally found it!!!🥺 😭😭😭!*
The wacky staff of Empire Records saved the day and kept the store from being a Music Town yay!!!! Just for it to shut down in the early 2000's due to I tuns and other MP3 services now the old Empire Records is now a Apple Store
Who here remembers going to the record store and listening to a new album with the community ear phones. Sometimes you bought a good CD, other times you got an ear infection.
Empire Records was one of those cultural cult hit movies. It's crazy how under appreciated and how old the movie actually is. Teens now a days probably have no clue what a record store is or have ever experienced 1 in thier life. Call me crazy, but I think a remake/sequel with a whole new cast could actually work.
So I'm 14 and I was introduced to this movie and a lot of others like it by my parents and this movie is my absolute obsession, I want to work at a store like this but there aren't any like it anymore it's really upsetting tbh
I'm 49 and I say do not lose your hope! There are plenty of stores still selling records and scene related stuff. This movie showed a frivolous crew of work colleagues with their stories intertwining together. That is something which is not readily available. Only time will tell if you ever have the privilege of experiencing something good like that. However it is there, recreating itself in different fields of art and business every day. You just need to find it. I had the phenomenal luck of getting in Internet related studying and later work in 1993, when the web was still a new invention. Still there. Have the crew and everyone is a rock star. So, dive in and live your dreams. "But finish your school first!"
You can make this store a reality again and create your own connections. Party with the same people go on summer road trips. Travel the world. Get into trouble. Save each other or die trying. Plenty of life left to live.
This makes me miss how carefree and fun and how everyone was socially connected and experimental unlike the zombies of today totally DISCONNECTED! Run by their tech and not in touch with reality!
Record stores were so intimate places, there were only music lovers there. They carried and shared lots of the culture related to the different music styles. For the 90's youth and young adults they were the unachievable dream which became reality just few years later with the Mp3's. Suddenly the entire selection fit in your pocket. However it wasn't and isn't the same thing. I don't blame Mp3's or Itunes for the loss of record store culture. Record companies had all the money to build their digital empires in the early 90's had they wanted to do so. It is something a movie should be made of. Seeing the stupid execs first ignoring then fighting the inevitable while the small records shops are wondering what the hell is happening!? Maybe Carol Heikkinen should do another script! :)
i was maybe 8 or 9 years old when i saw this way back in the summer of `96 and boy how i wished i was a grown up back then thinking it would be so cool to do anything i can think of but now that i'm an adult watching this made me realize how much i miss being a naive kid again. Greetings from the PHilippines.

I lived it. My name is Seven. I worked at Tower Records from late '96 to early '00. This movie catches it all. It's based off Tower Records. Just compare the name badges if you don't believe.
Apparently I was wrong about Empire Records. I thought it came out in the late 80s here it came out in the late 90s no big deal. Still a great & fantastic movie this was also the coolest as well. It's the nostalgia effect.
I miss the 2000s while my parents think the 80s were better. We all believe when we were younger the times were better.
Why does Liv Tyler have to be so pretty?
Because that's all she really has to offer. She can't act. I guess it helps to have a groupie for a mom who bangs famous musicians.
Hey, that's not fair... Liv did okay in the LoTR movies...
