Thermostat set to heat schedule only in our house but I think I have done everything right (no silly mistakes) just like this video (except on heat vs cool) and woke up to 20c instead of programmed 15c. Maybe it’s the batteries?? (Can’t get unit unhitched to check…I will keep working on it)
Thank you for your help with this! I get SO confused when I'm looking at my thermostat because I don't know if it's showing what I want the temperature to be or what it actually is in the house. This video really helped to clear that up for me! I have a 3 level townhouse that's all controlled by 1 thermostat so there's always 1 very cold floor and 1 warm floor in the summer and reversed in the winter. My electric bill is $300 this month and most of that is from my A/C so after watching your video I just raised my thermostat from 72 to 75 degrees and I'm hoping that I will see a difference in my bill next month, fingers crossed!!
I know this is an old comment, but basements can lower heating/cooling bills, especially with 3 floors. Running just the furnace fan will mix the air from the (cool) basement with the (very hot) upstairs, averaging the temp to around the middle level while using 90%+ less energy than running the A/C or Heat. Upstairs temps will drop significantly and not become so heat-soaked during hotter days. This is an essential component of HVAC (central air) but most 'dumb' thermostats only run the fan when also running A/C or Heating. Decent thermostats can set to automatically circulate the air every so often instead of either being always on (waste of electricity) or always off (default). It's also important to adjust the vents themselves during the warmer and cooler seasons to further improve comfort and energy savings. For instance, during summer you want the cool air in the basement mostly being blown to the upstairs while wanting the hot upstairs air to be drawn to the lower levels. Therefor, you want the returns fully open in the basement and top floor, along with fully opening the upstairs supply ducts (registers) for the best mixing possible between the hottest and coolest levels. You can also partially close the vents of the middle floor for better results if you find the middle is often comfortable or even a little too cool. Manually adjusting vents makes a big difference in balancing temps but some caution should be used to not close too many which may result in the furnace fan working a bit harder. It's also important to make sure you have a clean furnace filter (wider is LESS restrictive i.e. 4" is MUCH better than 1") for better flow, especially if closing a significant percentage of vents. I've been running the A/C much less after doing these things and it's way more comfortable upstairs where I spend all of my time. We have a dumb thermostat so I've been manually turning the 'Fan' setting from 'auto' to 'on' as needed until upgrading to a thermostat that has that option built in.
Thank you so much. I thought I would need someone to come over and change my battery. Low and behold! Not only did I change the battery, but I also programmed my thermostat. Thanks for the easy-to-follow instruction. :)

I cannot change the heat temp on my honeywell thermostat and my downstairs is always freezing. How to change the temps? It will not budge just styck on 40 degrees.
I have the Honeywell Focus Pro 6000. I set the thermostat to exactly what I want. I can't understand why this thermostat turns on at 4:00a and turns off at 4:30a. I have been trying to get rid of this but I can't seem to get an answer. Have you ever heard of this happening before.
Hi There at minute 6:44 you mention a lot of "people get confused because they think they're setting their AC schedule but their actually setting their Heating schedule for their furnace" I think thats what happening to ours- would you be able to clarify this please?
What I meant by that is that when your thermostat is set to HEAT, any programming you do will only affect the furnace/heat cycle. And when the thermostat is set to AC, any programming done will only affect the air conditioner.
What do you mean at 6:45 when you say that people mess up thinking they are programming their ac but is actually programming heat ? I thought cool setting is to program ac and heat .... heat.
My dad was being a butt and set a temperature that was too cold for everyone in the house but him. Because of you I was able to change it to higher temperature. My mom and I thank you.
We purchased a home with two of these thermostats, and had to find the instruction manual online. We are on an on/off peak plan with our electric company - "on peak" is 3pm to 8pm, so I set the "away" temp to 90 (so it will basically stay off) at 3pm and the "return" to 78 at 8pm, but it kicks on way before 8:00, and we have to rush to manually override it. I assume it is trying to precool the house before the 8pm "return" time. How can we set it to stay off during those hours?
That's odd.. I wasn't aware that this thermostat has that precool feature. I would just program to an hour later to compensate for the early start. But I don't know how to turn that off, sorry. (if it's possible at all)
Thanks for your reply! I tried setting the "return" time to 9pm tonight (instead of 8), and the AC still kicked on at 7:25! The display said "recovery mode". I can see it kicking on 35 min before the set return time, but an hour and 35 min?!? So frustrating....
Oh boy.. Evil thermostat. I think that thermostat may be defective.. 1 hr 35 min is pushing it. Usually recovery times are around half an hour. There may be a way to adjust that. Do you happen to have the manual from it? Otherwise you could also try calling Honeywell. I've called them before and they had great support people.

Thanks for video. How do I cancel out my programmed thermostat? I want to be able to just set temp manually without needing to use the HOLD button. I have pretty much the same Honeywell thermostat.
Wow! I’ve tried to stop the thermostat from going to 50 at 2 am & just didn’t know what else to do! Thanks so much for also showing how easy it is to remove and replace the cover!
Does this Honeywell have an auto where it switches back and forth between heat and cold? Or does it only have cool or heat and that setting has to be used?
We are having trouble with the sleep schedule on our honeywell. We have it set to start at 10:30 but it starts cooling the house down at 7:30. Do you know how to fix this?
Hi there. Please explain what it means when in the schedule it asks you to set a “cool to” or a “heat to” setting.... I’m so confused. I just want to set a temperature and have the thermostat figure out how to get there. (Wether it should use the heat or cooling). Thanks!
Please mention that this model is identical to my Trane thermostat. I had s really difficult time trying to find directions online because I didn’t know. I saw the picture and recognized it as my own, but mine says Trane at the top, not Honeywell. 👍 Thanks!
I want to program my thermostat to run only during non-peak hours (8 p.m. to 3 p.m.). Our thermostat like most, most has "wake, leave, return, and sleep" periods. Should I use 8 p.m. as the "wake" time and 3 p.m. as the "sleep" time, cancelling the "leave and return" periods? An issue I am seeing, the thermostat turns on the A/C about an hour before it is scheduled even though the thermostat clock is set correctly. Any help will be appreciated / Luis

@@WordofAdviceTV thank you! Your video was super helpful!
Many thanks; how do I keep my heat from coming on at 4:30 AM when I only want it to start at 5:30?
What do you mean at 6:45 when you say that people mess up thinking they are programming their ac but is actually programming heat ? I thought cool setting is to program ac and heat .... heat.
I was happy you showed how to NOT program a schedule. Thank you!!
My dad was being a butt and set a temperature that was too cold for everyone in the house but him. Because of you I was able to change it to higher temperature. My mom and I thank you.
Glad I could help! Stay warm ;)
Thank you sooooo very much. My first Townhouse, I thought I would have to contact a Maintenance guy. I love the way you explained it so easy. :)
I will have to call them....the info I got off their website doesn't say anything about recovery time. Thank you though!!
@@peggycoots668 Alright, good luck! Let us know if you find out something interesting! :)
Enjoyed the video. Very good and thorough explanation.
Excellent explanation and easy to understand. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! Our system was driving us crazy! Now, we can reset it
You're very welcome! :) Glad the video helped!
@@WordofAdviceTV okay i have the same thermostat and i wired it the same way and now it constantly blows out hot air when i put the old one back it works totally fine. i need help man
You are very good and thorough at explaining.
Does this thermostat controller have a differential setting and if, so how do you get to it to change it?
Hi . Thanks for the great information . I pressed HOLD , how do i take it off hold ?
You would press the program or schedule button
Thanks for video. How do I cancel out my programmed thermostat? I want to be able to just set temp manually without needing to use the HOLD button. I have pretty much the same Honeywell thermostat.
With most programmable thermostats that is not an option unfortunately. The only was is to leave it on HOLD.
Word of Advice TV ugh! Thanks for the reply
you saved us from frying thankyou u r the man!!!
Hi Jay! Great video. I have a question..Once a Honeywell heating or cool HOLD button is turned on, how do you turn it off? Thank you !
