    In the three years since I published this video, the app has changed names three times. At present it is called “TCC” which stands for Total Connect Comfort. In addition, the method for connecting to WiFi has changed.

    Bought and installed this same thermostat, easy installation even without a C-wire, moved the G-wire to the C-wire spot and placed a jumper between Y and G at the furnace and place the G-wire to C at the thermostat, loving this thermostat so far

      Only thing about that, is if the fan is in the on position the outside condensing unit will run continuously without ever being able to shut off at the the temperature set point.

    Great video. I hate to say it but you should do the video again and be more clear on how to connect the wifi and add in the address of the thermostat or at least tell us to find it in our instructions. The app is TCC not honeywell app for my install (I saw that in another comment). I watch several and other than trying to figure out that it was my wifi settings on my phone that I had to connect it was great. Thanks for all the people like you that let me (a computer programmer) be a handy man.

    Using the plate was a great idea! Thank you. I have almost the same set up (blue for C instead of brown) but it doesn’t seem to be getting power. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  3 роки тому +2

      If I was diagnosing the issue, I would look at the connections of the wires to the mounting plate making sure I didn’t push a wire in too far where the insulation was blocking the connection. Then I would test the C wire with a volt meter to make sure it is supplying power.

    if you get to the wifi set up part and your browser does not automatically open the honeywell wifi set up page after you connect to the new thermostat in your wifi setting. **go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser**. If that doesn't work take the thermostat off the wall for 1 minute and put it back on and try going to 192.168.1.1 again.

Back to the thermostat. My old thermostat didn't use the c blue or brown wire. She connected the blue and the furnace turns on but not the thermostat. There's no display. Also the front half doesn't click into the back plate like yours does. I'm wondering if we should try the brown wire instead of the blue to power the thermostat?

    I added a Honeywell RTH6580WF to my home recently. I discovered no c wire. Without knowing what all it involved, I found the blue wire tucked into the wire bundle as it had been cut off since not in use. I stripped it and applied it to my thermostat. Still no power. I then went down to my furnace to see the blue wire was not hooked up either it was just wrapped around the same wire bundle going to the thermostat. I stripped it and hooked it to the C terminal on the furnace. Now the C terminal had a white and brown already attached going to the AC. But you can hook more wires to the C. You can hook the 3 right into the terminal or you can bundle them together with a 4 wire called a pigtail then you only have one single wire hooked to the C terminal. User preference. So don't just assume because you found the blue wire in your wall or wire bundle behind your thermostat that its connected to the C terminal in your furnace. You will be best to take the panel off your furnace , find if a C wire is connected and determine the color while making sure it's the wire bundle going to the thermostat.

I guess it's too far from my router. So I'll hv to get a wifi booster. I don't understand the 'hold' and it was SO hard to figure out how to set the temp and not 'schedule' it. I had to cycle through a whole week of options to make sure no times were set. I hope it's just on 73º all the time unless I use the app to change it!! Somebody please make a thermostat use EASIER. This video was helpful in helping me make sure I did all the step. Thank you.

      @JustRanda Nest makes a very sleek and simple thermostat that is super easy to setup. The trade off, unfortunately, is the much higher price. This house had three different thermostats which made the cost of a Nest system hard to justify but, if you only have one thermostat, I would recommend them over the Honeywell.

      @@houseonthemend Thank you.. good to know, but I finally got this one set up and it's working fine with my Alexa device. So nice! Also, another video showed how to reset the wifi by holding down 2 keys, whereas the written instructions advised you to pop the faceplate off to reset,which turns the whole unit off. Learnign that shortcut, I was able to get the thermostat on my home wifi using my laptop and avoiding iPhone setup. It's always sooo easy after doing it mulitiple times til it gets done. Seems like I always have to fight my way there, but I win due to sheer persistence... whew! Thanks again! x

    How do you check the power of the common wire (brown) to make sure that it's live? I have the exact setup with matching colors like yours, but mine never turns on. I'm pretty sure that I connect everything correctly and triple-check the connections too. Nothing comes on. I even bought a second one just to be sure that the first isn't faulty. Still, nothing comes on. I give up and buy a battery-powered version of this unit. Any idea?

      Common wire is tested with a volt meter. You are looking for 24 volts AC.

    Is the C wire always brown? my current thermostat has a white, green, and red wire connected (to their corresponding initial), there is also a brown and black wire coming out from the wall but not connected to anything. There is a slot for the C wire but it says its optional if batteries are installed, so the C wire isn't connected. Is the brown wire the C wire?

    • @houseonthemend
      @houseonthemend  5 років тому +1

      Bob It’s possible that is your C-wire. You will need to test it to see if you are getting voltage to it to know for certain. There are several videos on UA-cam demonstrating how to test your voltage at the thermostat.

    I'm replacing my previous thermostat with an Honeywell RTH 6500. My old thermostat has 6 wire(O for orange, w for white, G for green, R for red, black=C, and Y for yellow) . What should I do with the O ? The users manual says if your old thermostat had an O wire and not a B wire , attach the o wire to the O/B wire. Then should I tailgate O wire to the W wire since w wire already occupies the space where OB should Go.
