Honda ATC 70 Restoration | Restored 140cc 3 Wheeler!

  • We restore my 1985 Honda ATC 70! I purchased this mini Moto 3 wheeler in the summer of 2020- it had been sitting for some time, the plastics were all cracked up, the original 72cc engine barely ran, and rust was popping out of the frame. We swapped a Piranha 140cc 4 speed semi automatic engine on it, completely transforming the performance of this all terrain cycle. In today's episode, we paint the frame, touch up and clear coat the original red, paint the wheels, install new wheel bearings, seals, brake shoes, and more!
    Thanks for Watching!

Also heat the vinyl with a hair dryer to help pull wrinkles out. Do not apply the heat directly, swing it back and forth to gradually heat the area.

The first ATC I ever saw was only 6 months old. It was a ATC 90 but belonged to a couple of thrill seeking Firemen from OKC. They had worn it out by the time I saw it and replaced that 90 with a 185 Suzuki or Yamaha engine and trans. The sticker was not original equipment since they would get all lit up and play (you know Firemen always follow safety rules "wink *wink"). The object was to be able to stay on and not spill your beer. When you were the passenger, that was not as easy as you would think. Luckily they would do it in the sand and no one was hurt. They also drag raced a 56 F100, flew hang gliders and had several "sand" toys. BTW You need a "Dutch Oven" for camp cooking and on top of the stove in the shop.

you gotta do the soapy water trick for the stickers. you can move it around until its in place, then squeegee it and wait until it dries. and BOOM! sticker

I remember back in the day, I had a Honda 70, along with about 7 of my school buddies my friends dad was a Machinist at air research, we jacked those 70s with stroker cranks, bored out, cams, headers over sized carb, headers. 3 speed to4. Changed the front sprocket.
To top it all off put a little alcohol in the tank. Most definitely ur helmet.
What else can I say scary fast on 3 wheels. Have fun with ur restoration

Correct, this is a tensioner for a belt. A chain tensioner, like a timing chain tensioner on an engine is also nylon but longer and curved and would be constantly lubricated. This is not the right application.

Have you ever seen what tire slim does to steel and aluminum rims? Changed many tires that had tire slim in them for who knows how long. Corrodes them real bad. Actually did an experiment on a brand new painted rim, ran the tire and wheel for one season and pulled it apart and it was rusted so bad it was flaking. Just my personal experience with tire slim.

Use a heat gun or a hair dryer when you remove stickers and they’ll come off clean. You gotta get close to it with a hair dryer but don’t get to close with a heat gun and keep it moving don’t stay in one place to long or you’ll damage the paint or plastic. Just go slow and don’t get it to hot. When it’s pretty toasty to the touch it’s ready.

  • @mleger2797

Here's a trick to getting rid of the glue for just about any label, use regular rubbing alcohol same stuff you use to clean cuts 90% or better (less water in it). Then you can just use say a table spoons worth on the tank size stick and rub it in with your finger, then wipe with a rag repeat if necessary. As for applying decals, try spraying a soapy water solution to surface and be liberal with it so the decal doesn't stick and can still be slid around. Once your happy with the placement work from the middle out to push the bubbles out and get a flat full adhesion, if you do get a small bubble try a hair dryer and softly work it out.

Back in the late 70s, my dad's friend Charlie had a brand new ATC 90, and a brand new GMC Gentleman Jim (black and gold, sort of a Smokey and the Bandit TRUCK) pickup. He let me try out the ATC. I gave it too much gas, which makes the front end light and even harder to steer. I went straight into the side of the GMC. A GMC/ATC interface. Minor damage to the truck (I say minor, cuz it wasn't mine). To this day, I've never TRIED to ride another 3 wheeler.

To get that salmon on point, ALWAYS start with the skin side down. Next time you cook you up some salmon, grab you a cast iron skillet, some fresh Thyme, butter, salt, and a little bit of cracked pepper. Sprinkle the fillet with a little salt and pepper. Throw some butter and thyme in the skillet and lay your salmon in skin side down. Grab the spoon and tilt the skillet to pool the butter and thyme. Baste the salmon by spooning on the butter. Once that skin is golden brown and crispy, flip the fillet and continue basting for about two minutes. Tell your fans how it taste! Hopefully, you'll enjoy the food as much as I enjoy your videos.

I like to use rustoulem paint takes time to dry tho. It has gone up in price. It’s hard to find the .99 wallmart black anymore.

FYI, Zippo lighter fluid is great for removing sticker glue.

Here’s a trick for painting rims. Get a pack of index cards and stand them on the lip of the rim all around. Much quicker than tape!

dont wanna tell my gran how to suck eggs, but when youre applying stickers you should spritz the surface with water, this will allow you to adjust the sticker placement, then when you're happy with the position, squeegee the water out. The bike looks great, keep up the good work

I use a regular deck of poker cards tucked around the rim with the tire deflated to paint rims .Makes for a perfect paint job on the rims and easier to get under the rim instead of using just blue tape. BTW...Awesome channel!!!!

Those old 3 wheelers, four wheelers, and go carts all have the same style of tires lol. I put a 212 predator on an 80s cart and the thing don’t turn or stop. It also doesn’t have any brakes so you have to stop the tire with your foot 😂😂 and there’s fencing wire and vice grips holding the throttle together😅

Im seeing this for the first time but i would add about 3 inches to the frame where the fuel tank sits and make adjustments to the handle bars accordingly. Maybe move the seat forward 1 1/2 ihch.

Hey guys when you put stickers on get a spray bottle with soapy water in it. Then spray the area with soapy water lay the sticker on then move it where ever you want. Then use a small squeegee to smooth sticker and remove water and air bubbles.

This video is bringing back great memories. As a kid I had an '85 ATC-125M. One friend had The fourtrax 125, 2 friends had ATC 110s, and two others had the ATC 70. years of fun times

Not that you guys ever listen to me, but the trick with new seat covers is to leave them out in the sun for an hour or so, and they will soften up and be easier to stretch without tearing.
