It's the same argument people use when they compare graphics to onboard video and say it's realistic. It's not. I've always heard that the Pirellis probably offer a little more peak grip, but michelins have a bigger operating window. Would you agree with that from your experiences?
Pirrelis have grip till they dont once the traction goes it's gone on them. The Michelin kinda tapers off when it starts to lose traction rather then just disappear. This is what I have found when I went to the ron fellows Corvette driving school.
Depends on the compound. The Michelins I used had more grip for a single lap and longer tire life but this depends on the model of tire you're using from the supplier.

fear is definitely a real thing in real life even if logically you know you're not in that much danger. i do rock climbing on occasion, roped in and harnessed, and even though i know theres a very insignificant chance of actually falling it's difficult and frightening to be clinging to the wall knowing your grip is failing you. i have to actually fall a few times before i get over it and start taking risks to get up the wall. i'm sure what david does is more terrifying because the risk of injury, crashing at 150mph, is more real than what i do.
@@zintaxza7555 Unless there's some sort of chemical or electrical stimulation to the fear centers in the brain, it'll never get there. Played GT religiously up to GT6. Once I made the switch to iracing I was blown away. I knew it didn't look as sexy as GT; However, there's no 10 year olds , iscrewyourmom game tags, and it is very near to the real thing when comparing. There's a reason the best gear isn't available on consoles. Lately the gear has trickled down. I guess this debate will go on forever, or until either company goes belly up. No matter what you're racing enjoy the Race brothers.
Dude you are a golden god for doing this video. Us sim racers who will never be on the track will really appreciate you giving us a glimpse into how close we imagine we are to the real thing. I'm glad you mentioned the fear factor. I felt that doing tourist laps on the Nordschliefe so I'm glad the pros still feel the same.
One thing I noticed with sims is that the tyre squealing happens on all corners, even when not taking it at full tilt. Iracing seems to scrub all the time. Is it like this in rinaldi ferrari?
Indeed - the first Project Cars did not have tire noise, but people complained and they had to put it back. While realistic, if you can't feel with your ass, the game can compensate with other senses, sound being second best.
My guess is that iracing don't have to rely on tire squeal because you can only play the game with a wheel, so you can feel the grip limit through the wheel. While console games that can be played with a controller where the force feedback is non existent, the squeal is what makes you aware of the grip limit.

Very nice video and it says it all no need to speak. It shows us the good braking points and best driving lines. I’d like to know, if possible, your opinion about which game is the most accurate on track feelings (physics and all) and visuals. To me it’s surprisingly GT Sport... it looks very much accurate, but I’ll let you have the final word on that as I never drove a real GT3 car in spa. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Hey mate, it depends on the factors. Each game does parts right and wrong, I don't really have a preference. All of them drove me nuts with their track limit warnings though! That was one common thread amongst all of them 😂
Hahaha yes they’re a bit too severe about track limits compared to what you’re allowed to IRL. Thanks a lot for your feedback mate, see you in the next video 🤙
Great video as usual Dave. ACC sound is pretty darn good. I think in real life if your tires squeal like GT it is too late and you had better assume the crash position! 😱
Yea I should have turned down the tire sound in GT Sport. But to be honest I prefer it to the sound you hear in iRacing which literally sounds like a flat tire on a Golf 1.6.
Does is not seem like real life has more control under acceleration and wrestles it more during braking? Literally the opposite of assetto corsa. For me on gt3 car anyway.
Yea each game is different, ACC is very vivid whereas GT Sport is neutral and iRacing comes from 2004. In real life... it just depends on the weather :)

Hi David, I think the idea of the video is fantastic. After all, this is the question on every simracer's mind: How close is the sim to what it's like to driving racecars in reality? You're certainly in a great position to answer that question. I have to say, I was hoping for a little bit more than a string of on board laps. Sure, comparing the visual appearance off the track is nice, but I would love to hear from you, what the actual differences are on a corner-by-corner-basis and which sim comes closest to feeling like the real thing. I would imagine that's going to take a bit of time, so I don't really want to act like you have to do it. But it would be very interesting.
Hello David, currently I'm talking with a lot of people about the seat/view position in the Forum. If you could make a Video about the seat/view position in real life of your car and show it in ACC, that would help/interest a lot of people. Just a small idea for a future video :) (because it's very hard to compare things with helmetcams, because they are mostly on the top or side of the helmet)
To be honest all 3 Sims are very good to watch, I'd say maybe ACC sounds the best but that's subjective, GT Sports Graphics stunning as always and iRacing with the better cockpit view, be interesting to know what your thoughts are DD with how each Sim compares on the feel of Spa ....then let the sim wars commence 🤣 compared to your Ferrari 458 lap I don't think any of the Sims nailed the raw sound tbh, ACC for me sounded the best!
In GT7 I really hope they improve the sounds, both car and the roughness of the track. I wanna hear some rubber hitting the undercarriage and the noise going over curbs.
I've noticed that you adjust your camera in a very low sitting position compared to pretty much any other sim racer out there, I guess that's closer to how you seat in real life?
can u share with me ur settings at ACC coz i have the same T-gt and T-lcm and ur real race driver so i can use similar to u and be better coz i live gt3 thanks anyway brother and good job
Would have been great to see the laps from the same camera angle as real life, maybe you could do that using the Gyro cam in iracing and the camera tool to get the exact same perspective. That would be great.
GT Sport has laser scanned tracks, like iRacing and ACC. What most game developers get wrong is the curbing. Luckily with ACC they take our feedback onboard and make changes to tracks when we recommend it.
Massive, top spead on end of kemmel straight was 15km/h slower (250 instead of 265 - vbox speed) with max setting on rear wing instead of minimum (OEM GTS wing)
The answer is “it depends”. For example the 488 GT3 with the 2016 spec rear wing had a huge gurney flap which cost us a lot of top speed but added downforce. Then in 2018 they launched an Evo package which was like magic, smaller gurney, more top speed and more downforce. With the 2018 wing we don’t see that much cost in top speed when we increase the wing angle.
Need to watch out more for those pigeons Dave, or your view will be wrecked IRL. Seriously though, what are the turd looking mark on your windscreen? Chip repairs maybe?
Nice vid David. Looking forward to your thoughts on how the games compare in portraying Spa. iRacing looks like an older track model than GT Sport and ACC.
well all of them have a millimeter accurate track (of the scan year). iRacing is using the oldest, 2010, while GT Sport and ACC both use 2018 i think. Graphics wise imo gt sport looks the best except for sharpness (resolution problem due to ps4's limits)
I do enjoy these hotlap comparisons between the various games and real life, but a single hotlap isn't a good indicator of overall realism. It's one thing to match real life for one lap, but it's something completely different to match real life over the course of a run. Anyways, thanks for posting. Also, what's with the field of view setting?
I'm still amazed at how exhilarating it feels to be in the cockpit on ACC. There's literally nothing better in terms of the ambiance feel behind the wheel in this sim for this category of racing.

It's the same argument people use when they compare graphics to onboard video and say it's realistic. It's not.
It looks and sounds like a recording of real life but we aren't trying to simulate recordings. We're trying to simulate reality to the naked eye, ear and touch.
Now I'm not say ACC nailed it on sound because I don't think they did, they merely made the interior sounds seem convincing enough, more so than other Sims except maybe Raceroom. External sounds IMO are still very poor.
GT Sport looks like what real life looks through the lens of a GoPro not what real life actually looks like. One thing I'll give it is the sense of depth is great.
ACC by default like AC is too saturated, I turn saturation down to 80% and the pallette looks much better.
Another thing is everyone judging graphic fidelity from a compressed UA-cam video is silly. The sharpest and more detailed game will always suffer most.
I'm interested to know what settings are being run for ACC and iRacing.
Love your content David, keep it up!
F1 games is winners on over-saturation
please keep playing ACC & GTs David Iracing is just so anti consumer in my opinion, A game that charges a subscription & then demands you to have to buy extra cars & tracks is pretty disgusting imho, I know I will get some stick for rmy comment from Iracing fans but I stand by it.this is a really good video brilliant to see the differences between games & real life keep up the great work.
No you're absolutely right. You throw your money into their time sync and have zero to show for it the second you stop paying their fee.
If you start with iRacing, then it should be the only (or at least the main) simulator which you are playing at that time. It's not a game for casuals, it's a simulator for passionists. And what you get for the money is just unbelievable good content.
stop playing a great game because it costs alot but he can afford it? Why would he? If he enjoys it he should play it.
And actually , iRacing only turned to profit in 2016. After OVER A DECADE of development.
@@whysoslow1999 obviously you didnt even bother to read my post properly, where did I say to David to stop playing Iracing ? he can play what ever he wants to, its his prerogative & money after all, I just dont want to see him abandon GTsport & ACC like so many other youtubers seem to do after a while.
For a console game GT Sport amazes me and I find it very imersive.. Was hyped for Spa in the game and had the largest grin on my face driving it. Call it a Arcade game or a Sim, GT Sport has become my favourite out of all of them. No setup just jump in and drive. I would be a very happy camper the day GT Sport became available on pc, I can wish :D.. Great Video as always David love you content keep it coming.
Never on pc sony made them sony will end them
I've always heard that the Pirellis probably offer a little more peak grip, but michelins have a bigger operating window. Would you agree with that from your experiences?
i think is the other way around, not sure.
@@DavidPerel you likely were using the higher end of the brands. The tires we tested were super sports and p-zeros. Not the cup tires or the pirreli equivalent.
We use racing slicks, not the same naming structure as Road tires
GT sport is underrated, especially for a console game.
Agree 100%
Indeed, some people are still thinking it's a sim, when it's clearly not.
@@hellmaestroosu792 Your head is not
just from this video it seems like GT Sport is the closest to the real deal... i find...
The handling in GT Sport is a bit more binary than say ACC but I still think they do a good job. In GT Sport if you want to extract a decent lap time you need to stick to the same fundamentals that we use around Spa in real life and I think that indicates that they didn't get as much wrong as people think.
The sound design in ACC is amazing. Really captures the intensity of driving a race car
Yea the sound design in ACC is really well done
I just hate iRacing's buisnessmodel. Its either buy cars and tracks or pay for a subscription for me. Not both!
please use rfactor 2 four compare guy ;)
Ill see you at Kyalami 9 hour
Our home race good luck
Nice one, still ( yep I'm nagging like a old fart) would be nice to have a split screen.. 😁👌. And Yes finally someone's agreeing with me ( because Jimmy Broadbent and others don't) that even with VR and motion rig there will always be one BIG factor missing FEAR😱😱 fear of lozing your life fear of wrecking a perfectly amazing car... Good Job 👍👌👏👏👏
i believe than in the future VR will be able to easily produce the element of fear. hopefully i am alive and have enough money for that
fear is definitely a real thing in real life even if logically you know you're not in that much danger. i do rock climbing on occasion, roped in and harnessed, and even though i know theres a very insignificant chance of actually falling it's difficult and frightening to be clinging to the wall knowing your grip is failing you. i have to actually fall a few times before i get over it and start taking risks to get up the wall. i'm sure what david does is more terrifying because the risk of injury, crashing at 150mph, is more real than what i do.
@@zintaxza7555 Unless there's some sort of chemical or electrical stimulation to the fear centers in the brain, it'll never get there. The endorphins released when you're putting your body at risk is something that can't truly be reproduced without the knowledge that there's a true potential for injury. I'm not saying you can't feel fear without being there, I'm saying you'll never feel the same fear.
@@intillex1 Unless VR becomes so advanced, that it is indistinguishable from real life. Everything looks, sounds, smells and feels like real life and you would have no Idea you're sitting in a fake Ferrari 488 and it'll actually feel like you can die if you do not take Eau Rouge correctly. It may sound sci-fi-ish but with how VR and microprocessors are advancing it's completely possible.
Thanks for the comment mate :)) yea no game / sim will ever be able to replicate the fear/thrill of doing a lap around Spa or Macua etc.
I have both games Acc is a lot harder to drive but I enjoy both games.
I wish all three studios would just create a game together with the best elements of each. The game would be ungodly epic.
ACC with GT Sport's in-game livery customisation plus the ability to share designs online and it's all set.
You always use 1st gear on the chicane except in GT you use 2nd. So do I, but I don't know why I'm doing it lol. Why don't you use 1st ? Also you lift Blanchimont on iracing but flat out otherwise, why is that ?
The 458 has more torque and first gear is shorter. In the 488 first gear is longer. Blanchimont in iRacing is not easy flat with the baseline setup. In real life it’s also not easy flat though.
Brilliant !! Love the video and just got ACC and the first track I ran was SPA. Feels very different from GT Sport.
The handling in GT Sport is a bit more binary than ACC but I still think they do a good job. In GT Sport if you want to extract a decent lap time you need to stick to the same fundamentals that we use around Spa in real life and I think that indicates that they didn't get as much wrong as people think.
Holy shit those Michelin tyres made that GT3 as fast as a GTE car on Spa.
iRacing is so ugly on the eyes. I immediately ended it when he got to that game.
Graphics: ACC (although GTS has great lighting)
Track (details): ACC
Sound: generally ACC but the Ferrari sounds more realistic in iRacing
Realism: Probably ACC but I haven't tried GTS or iRacing
Awesome vids, and impressive laps. In short: legendary content.
Great video! Thanks for your professional view on that!
One question regarding ACC: you view position is very low in the car compared what I have in my setup. Is this your view in the car in real life? And is the Field of View you are using realistic? Thx mate!
I hope he answers this! I’ve been tweaking the view height and FOV in acc to see which one looks closer to rl. It’ll be nice to know what and how much the real drivers see in their cockpits
FOV seem a little too wide in ACC. Might be the fact that arms and wheels are visible but pretty sure it's a little wide.
@@Rave-agent Ive done alot of tweaking but still don't feel comfortable in close racing with cockpit view.. Not like I do with old AC or PC2. So I'm still doing hood cam. 😪
Check his previous video on ACC, he answers that, it’s his most similar to real life view if I’m not mistaken.
Gt sport holding it's own
Absolutely
Another great video Dave. For me GT Sport looked the best, I take it IRenting couldn't be bothered to paint the curbs the right color. IRL, GTS and ACC the curbs were correctly Red/Orange, in IRenting they were Red/White.
iRacing uses an old model of the track... hence the different curb colors... and other things😂
@@DavidPerel That seems pretty shocking to me given the ridiculous pricing model IRacing uses. You would have thought they'd keep tracks up to date at the very least, at £16 GT Sport is superb value.
@@thewidowmaker4037 you better don't drive Twin Ring Motegi in iracing.. it's shocking how utterly bad this track looks in iracing.. FOR THIS MONEY a real rip off
so which has closest to real life grip and handling etc ?
I’m not really sure, they all had some issues which I didn’t like but overall they did a decent job in different areas. If iRacing had a modern model of the track then I’d say they did a good job but until then... ACC holds the crown.
@@DavidPerel funny
Can u say something about slipstream? Which is the closest compared to reallife?
Also really enjoy watching your Vids, never raced Spa befor but from your Vids i learned it so fast. I did a 2.20 on hards on the first few tries (GT Sport)
Keep goin!
iRacing does slipstream the most realistically
i feel like in gt sport some entry speeds are too high like in les combes
and where are the differences between the michelin and pirelli tires because one time with pirelli you took eau rouge flat and stavelot you liftet and with michelin it was the other way around
(of course i know there a differences in grip on track and things like temperature but i would be interested if there is a noticable difference in those tires)
Michelin was faster in every corner :) it was a more sticky tire
Michelins looked like it made your car hungry to eat those Kerbs.
The Michelin's gave unbelievable levels of grip
Nice video man. I see almost in any game you're pulling a lot 4th and 5th gear. Does this give you that extra speed or is something you do?
Glad you enjoyed it mate, thank you
GT sport tracks look amazing!
One thing I noticed with sims is that the tyre squealing happens on all corners, even when not taking it at full tilt. Iracing seems to scrub all the time. Is it like this in rinaldi ferrari?
You cannot hear tire squeel in RL. Sims use it as a way to ‘feel’ the car.
Tobie Couillard iRacing has tire noise, it sounds like you have flat tires. Also there’s no much feel in that sim, worst FFB of all the games IMO.
@@tobiecouillard7864 Iracing has the worst yet squeal though.....
Such an epic feeling when GT sport running on a 300$ PS4 destroys the highest end racing sims available on billion dollar PCs equipped with rtx 2080ti and titans.
As a PS4 owner, I'll admit that although GT sport is great and all (yes, better than ACC on PC), project cars 2 is the ultimate deal. The helmet cam featured in pc2 is the next level stuff
Great stuff Coach Dave! I just started ac on my PS4 due to no pc and I must say it is a treat of a game! I’m sure ACC built off of what they had but all around very pleased to have a couple options on PS4.
Thanks Dave great video, you always deliver.👌
Thanks for watching Ant
Thumbs up to get him to review Project Cars 2.
I am curios of his thoughts, as well as other viewers thoughts on the game/SIM
Hey Dave, great video as always. I did a 2:17.7 in ACC with the 488 GT3 on a quick attempt. Would you say I'm not completely talent free? I uploaded the lap onto my channel.
2:17.7 is flyyyyying in ACC. Nice job mate
Hey there coach. May I please request a compilation of either your best overtakes or best stints or both with your insights of course.
Why u need to worry? Is polyphony digital They model the tracks and cars to the absolute accuracy, and update the physics engine too
Does is not seem like real life has more control under acceleration and wrestles it more during braking? Literally the opposite of assetto corsa. For me on gt3 car anyway.
@David I think the coloring is different. Real world the inside of the car is much darker, video games are too bright imo. Thoughts ?
Yea each game is different, ACC is very vivid whereas GT Sport is neutral and iRacing comes from 2004. In real life... it just depends on the weather :)
Must admit Gran turismo looks bloody Real, the colours are more life like I think thats the difference
Awesome to watch Coach Dave...still love the sound of the 458 of GT Sport
Me too!

Compared to the reality that is so real acc and if you have tried acc and iracing between the two which looks more like reality
I have a tip for ACC in the last sector if you use the inside curb you can take it flat because it pulls you into the turn.

Love watching the on board laps of yours mate, and I have to say that from the early ones to now you are getting smoother. You were smooth to start with, but you seem to have found an extra level this year buddy. Great watching mate, and looking forward to next season already. Quo
Thank you for inspiring me I have made my own UA-cam channel on gran turismo
Awesome man, good luck with the channel!
Great video, thanks for putting up. but still bugs me where you think it was fine for igor to lift to 40% throttle through eau rouge though.
I would have to chat face to face to explain why
Great video Dave, so good to see real life racing footage, against sim racing footage.
To be honest all 3 Sims are very good to watch, I'd say maybe ACC sounds the best but that's subjective, GT Sports Graphics stunning as always and iRacing with the better cockpit view, be interesting to know what your thoughts are DD with how each Sim compares on the feel of Spa ....then let the sim wars commence 🤣 compared to your Ferrari 458 lap I don't think any of the Sims nailed the raw sound tbh, ACC for me sounded the best!
gt sport win thx
Kudos on the editing quick-cuts, your track position lined up so well :)
Thank you! You're the only one who noticed, but I did try to do it on purpose :)
In GT7 I really hope they improve the sounds, both car and the roughness of the track. I wanna hear some rubber hitting the undercarriage and the noise going over curbs.
Gt sport ♥️
Awesome video, thanks! Seems to be a lot bumpier in real life.
Hey Dave awesome video! I was wondering if you brake with your left or right foot? Cheers mate!
Left foot braking for me
I've noticed that you adjust your camera in a very low sitting position compared to pretty much any other sim racer out there, I guess that's closer to how you seat in real life?
Yea in real life we can barely see over the dashboard
the seat position is ok, it's the field of view that is way too wide. but hey, i don't want to be the FOV police guy
Gregorio Nocco yeah stop
Why the almost potato cam settings for ACC? Havent seen GFX settings like that for nearly 10 years!! :)
The 488 on Michelin looks like an absolute weapon.
can u share with me ur settings at ACC coz i have the same T-gt and T-lcm and ur real race driver so i can use similar to u and be better coz i live gt3 thanks anyway brother and good job
Would have been great to see the laps from the same camera angle as real life, maybe you could do that using the Gyro cam in iracing and the camera tool to get the exact same perspective. That would be great.
How different are the laser scanned tracks to gt sport and real life?
GT Sport has laser scanned tracks, like iRacing and ACC. What most game developers get wrong is the curbing. Luckily with ACC they take our feedback onboard and make changes to tracks when we recommend it.
Just realized I subconsciously liked the video before it started loading
My favourite kind of viewer 😂
How do you go about learning a new track?
Google maps, onboard videos, sim laps, track walk 👍
Is someone playing violin in GT Sport? Sounds like it :D
Not hearing it.
How much impact do the wing settings have on fast tracks top speed?
In which onboard? In real life it could be the bubbles from the screen tear off
@@DavidPerel yes, it was the irl 488 and now that you say bubbles, I think I see it. Thanks for the info.
It always depends but sims drift even further from realism if you compare them over a longer stint. So one lap comparisons are best in my opinion.
I'm still amazed at how exhilarating it feels to be in the cockpit on ACC. There's literally nothing better in terms of the ambiance feel behind the wheel in this sim for this category of racing.
Agreed, their acoustic and graphic design is well done :)))
Project cars 2 and GT sport do that in a better manner in my opinion. Especially project cars 2 with the helmet cam
@@DavidPerel a bit laggy and too sharp makes it unrealistic in my opinion
GT Sport is such a great game. Very underrated in the sim community in my opinion
ACC has for me in camparson to real life to much Tire sound loss. And i think they could make the Brake lights much brighter!
