To give a small advice. Try to brake at the treshold of the ABS. It's a bit bugged in iRacing with the ABS. It's faster if you do not trigger it :)

It's not bugged- triggering ABS In iracing, just as it is in reality, only happens after you start to lock up. Hence the mini lock ups when you ride ABS in this game - again same as reality.
But the message stands- even with abs, brake as if you had no abs. It's just here as safety.

Dave thanks for the review of iRacing. Was curious about your thoughts on it. If you have trouble with the window not going full screen hit "Alt+Enter" on your keyboard.
Question - In terms of feeling oversteer or understeer through the steering rack of a real car, can you actually feel that or is it more in your seat? I noticed the amount of FFB doesn't really change in a corner if you're oversteering or understeering where as in ACC it gives a different sensation. Not sure what is more "realistic" as I've never driven a real racecar around a track before! Thanks!

Hi, Dave! You have a few choices when it comes to load cell if you want one on PC...
Now, you can use any brand of brakes with your Thrustmaster wheel, you'll just need to plug them directly to the PC with USB rather than to the wheelbase. If you prefer to stick with the Thrustmaster ecosystem, look up the Ricmotech load cell brake mod for Thrustmaster pedals. I installed that into my T3PA-Pro set and I love the heck out of it. Works flawless on PC where you can tweak your dead zones on whatnot, however small heads up on PS4 you have to press fairly hard to get 100% brakes. If you're in a fixed rig or cockpit that's no problem though.

3:40 have you ever tried irFFB? It gives you a lot of options to alter the standard FFB that comes with the game. Tried it once, never went back. Depending on your setup, it can even be feasable to switch from 60 Hz to 360 Hz and accept some delay (which you may have on some monitors / tv screens) anyway. You can even set suspension and wheel force independently, i.e. you can feel a lot more road details.

Oh and I'm not sure if you are aware, but iRacing's tracks are laser scanned. In order for them to update their "rendering" as you call it, they would need to go back to the track and re-scan it. hey david, just a couple tips that might help: try looking into IRFFB(you can try it without vjoy or installing extra stuff), it could be used to add road texture and extra kerbing as adds extra damper ffb to iracing, i think it even has an experimental understeer ffb option kinda like ac understeer effect.
also make sure the brake factor is set to your liking, just move it around press the brake and see how the red bar progresses until you find the right setting for you. i race regularly with a g29 and always had to put extra work into making braking work better for me (some brake sensitive cars, like the porsche cup, were pretty much undrivable if not setting the brake factor to my liking).
regarding ffb i do think in some cars is pretty shit, mazdas and gt3 cars have pretty shitty feedback, not that they handle bad just that its pretty vague compared to the new porsche rsr for example where with it i can judge oversteer/understeer with more precision.

But i've found that in most tracks they tend to suffer from that snap oversteer you talked about, and with custom setups the car doesn't seem to snap that much. A lot of what you struggle with in iRacing ultimately comes down to the tyre model, which is probably the worst part of the sim. Every tiny slip overheats the tyres and you have no grip at all. So driving like you would in real life isn't actually fast.
Besides that, "updating" an old track would require them to rescan the whole thing, which is expensive.

Hey dave, long time viewer, first time commenter. Like you I’ve played the gt series from the beginning and I tried iracing many years ago and didn’t much like it. Back then though (like 10 years ago) is was pretty rough compared to gt5. I was using a g27 back then and my biggest peeve was the sound! Hated it. Of course I hated gt5 sounds as well as they ruined the NSX R engine note which sounded great in gt4. My question is about sound. Compared to gt sport (which sounds mostly pretty good), how good is it? I’d love to get back into iracing but am a bit hesitant.

Same feelings about Iracing, I had fun on it but having to wait a whole week for a new track to race on gets boring quick, plus the amount of money one has to spend on it to get the most out of it was just a little bit much for me (I know I might get alot of blow back but it's how I feel). Ultimately I dropped Iracing and got Assetto Corsa and download mods, haven't missed Iracing and really been having more fun. Hey David! Great video as always. I noticed many people in the comments mentioning a "realistic" fov, but no one seemed to explain it clearly. Truth is, both your setup and theirs is realistic in different ways. So let's clear things up!
Say you're seated in your real race car, usual day at work. Now say you hold a rectangular wooden frame in front of you. Now say that frame is the same size as your computer monitor, and you hold it at the same distance from your face as your monitor is in your sim setup.
What would you see through that frame?
This depends on size and distance, but suppose something like a 27" screen at, say, around 50cm. Imagine you're looking through a 27" frame at 50cm in front of you while sitting in your car, you probably would see a bit of the dashboard, a bit of the wheel, some of the track, and that's it.
That's what they mean by "real" fov: having the dimensions of objects on your screen be the same as if they were in front of you in real life. You could call that an one-to-one scale fov, or real size fov.
With your fov, you are representing your entire field of view in real life, onto your monitor. Basically condensing the extent of what you'd see in reality, so that it fits on a screen. That's another kind of realism. A scaled, or fit-to-screen fov.
Many sim racers like the one to one fov, since it gives them a more accurate representation of distances and relative object sizes, helping them judge their driving better, at the expense of situational awareness.
In the end, it's all up to personal preference! I hope this clears things up a little, and in looking forward to more PC sim vids! (rfactor 2? ;) )
