    It would be great to see what you thought of rFactor 2 in one of these comparisons, as I've never heard you mention it. I uninstalled all my other sims after trying it with the GT3 packs (including AC and ACC). Everything else felt under-modeled after experiencing its insane tyre model and FFB, though I'm curious whether that's just my layperson impression, or whether it treads water with an actual GT3 driver.

    • @Luhmixer
      @Luhmixer 5 років тому

      Even if the GT3 driver now tells you that he thinks ACC is better or more real, it's nothing more than a subjective impression, because everyone evaluates the optical impressions and the FFB differently, especially since the whole thing also depends on the hardware. Anthony Davidson, a former Formula 1 driver, also wanted to market the Formula 1 series from Codemasters as realistic. For example, I find that on a monitor with a non-real FOV, the behavior is difficult to evaluate. The best way to do this is in VR. It would be interesting, if you let at least 10 drivers compare the simulations.

    David - You mention the very narrow window of tyre slip and the difficulty in catching slides in ACC, as compared to real life. This may sound like a strange question, but how does TC setting affect the inputs you need to catch oversteer? I found I was much better able to anticipate/sense and catch oversteer with the TC at 2 than at 6, in your car. Is this just me messing up, or does the intervention of TC change what you need to do with your hands (i.e. you can't both be correcting the same slide simultaneously?). I always presumed TC just meant you weren't going to slide as readily, and the computer would sort things out when you did- i.e. easier in all ways. Anyways, awesome videos, and anyone that can keep a sense of humility while racing Ferraris professionally is doing something right. Cheers.

  • @BrinkYeti
    @BrinkYeti 5 років тому +8

    if i may:
    i'd suggest using "crew chief" ( thecrewchief.org ) as a spotter, as the default spotter in ACC still needs some work IMO.
    regarding force-feedback:
    (i'm kinda sure some dev already told you this, but just in case)
    ingame-settings:
    Gain to 85% +-10 (to avoid excessive clipping)
    Minumum force to 0%
    Dynamic damping to 100% (unless you have a dd wheel)
    Road effects only enhances the effects which are already existing in the simulation, so 0% should be the most realistic.
    However: just set road-effects to whatever you're comfortable with.
    Good choice on your FOV :)
    IMO the entire "perfect" fov discussion is usually total BS and the only thing that's important, is that one uses an FOV with which one is a) comfortable with and b) an FOV which is consistent, so you don't use 45° in one game and 90° in the next.
    Thank you for the review! Looking forward to maybe some iRacing/ACC streams mixed into your regular streaming content, please ? :D

    • @TheRealSonicBeats
      @TheRealSonicBeats 5 років тому +2

      A perfect FOV actually does exist as you have real life cars for comparison. For instance, David is currently looking at a steering wheel (which is probably a foot from his face), past the steering wheel to his monitor (probably an extra 2 or 3 feet depending) and then he has to double all of that because of the view in game. The sense of speed and distance judging is completely off by using a "drivers eye" camera instead of a dash cam. The perfect FOV though is different for everyone as people are different heights so their distance from the in game dash would be different. Howevery, you are basically sitting in the driver seat of the car, so it only makes sense that you wouldn't need to see the wheel or anything in game

    I think you mentioned it as well, but theres such a fine line between having good grip and scrubbing the tires in ACC. Maybe it's the Pirelli tires, or maybe it's even accurate idk, but I find it nearly impossible to catch a slide in ACC. And with the not great FFB its hard to even feel a small slide before it's too late. That's my biggest criticism of ACC.

    Two of the exact criticisms I have brought up...difficulty in slide recovery due to small envelope at break-away and lack of initial cold braking. Good to get that confirmation.

    The sense of speed is indeed probably the only problematic thing for the game (IMO). It makes it very difficult to get a feel for a new track cause you have no idea about the braking point nor the sense of speed, so it becomes extremely easy to brake too early or too late.
    That said, the new update did some weird stuff to aero and cars performance that I have a hard time getting adjusted to. For example the cars reach lower speeds when it's colder, even though there's more grip on the track. Lap times also usually when they were easily much better at cold, now they seem to be worse when it's cold. This is from testing on Monza though, not sure how it affects other tracks, but really screws up with all I knew and gives me mixed feelings about the update itself. I do wonder if that's intended or not because it's very weird.

    They should remove it for lights bumps that don't affect the opponnents driving IMO.

    ACC is a great rival to GT. Gran Turismo could add more sounds and feedback from the car in the future. The screeching pads and the qualifying system needs an improvement.

    I use a tx wheel, and the Ffb is soooo light, I like some weight and seems there is nothing I can do to make it better. So to me ACC is simply a novelty game. iRacing is my choice of Sim. If they fix the FFB I would be on it all the time. Your video is the best, I agree with everything you commented on. Thanks

    Uhm, sims like rFactor 2 and Grand Prix 4 have better AI. ACC's AI suffers from lack of personality/variability between each driver, very rare 3-wides on wide straights and lack of certain attack/defend behaviours. AI also needs more minor mistakes to do from time to time.
    I want to love the AC games, but I feel like they are at their best only when you do short races, starting last and trying to finish first on a reasonable difficulty, because the AI flaws from longer races turn me off almost everytime. On the other hand, rFactor 2, Grand Prix 4, maybe even Automobilista/GTR 2 etc. have an AI that is decently developed for full-length races, even if they are still not flawless.

      Exactly! lol I really want to hear his opinion of their GT3's because for me. RF2 blows ACC out of the water. ACC isn't bad, quite good in some areas, but NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO RF2... You can literally feel the grip of all 4 of your tires on the road if set up right.

      RF2 graphics are on the limit to destroy the immersion. I was driving the Radical GT3 yesterday and God, that's an ugly interior modelling and the scene light is so pale and dead. As the uploader said in the video, graphics are important to immersion too

    • @joshuathomas6316
      @joshuathomas6316 5 років тому +3

      Jorge Some tracks and stuff look horrendous I agree. However, immersion is so much more than graphics. No other racing game gives you as much info in your feet and hands as RF2. The inputs are immersive and much more realistic to how cars naturally respond. There is just nothing better than when the track rubbers in RF2 and your tires have just heated enough to stick. You can literally feel that. Only other game I came close to feel that was in the original Assetto Corsa. ACC is not that at all. It’s floaty. Like you can feel the faux FFB instead of information about your tires on the track. Did you get the newest tracks like Le Mans and Nurburgring? Because they look stellar on my setup. The interiors of the newer GT3 endurance pack and the Mclaren Senna GTR are incredible.
      I will say this though, I agree with you that immersion is more than FFB. ACC sound is perfect. Never heard anything so good. It just sucks that it’s FFB doesn’t match the prestige of its GFX and sound design. I turn on ACC every once and a while and I try to enjoy it but I just can’t anymore. RF2 has ruined 3 games for me this year. I haven’t touched F1 2019, ACC or Raceroom eve since I bought the GT3 classes and official tracks on RF2. The quality is just unmatched.

      I am also very interested in David's opinion about rF2. For me, even though rF2 FFB is maybe a little bit more communicative, AC or ACC FFB feels more natural and enjoyable. I have to admit I have almost no experience with an RL race car. The biggest problem I have with rF2 physics is a fact that it is too forgiving and does not require as precise inputs as in AC and especially in ACC. But it is only my opinion and of course totally subjective.

    Really wish the VR was easier to run in ACC. I know now many people are into driving sims in VR... but think that a well optimized game can benefit many people on different PCs. Guess I’ll just have to stick to PC2 and AC till my PC can manage more than 50 FPS. But this can definitely be an amazing sim with a bit more time

    I use a small midge OSW setup, and I feel like the force feedback in this game to be very pronounced and impactful. Granted, I understand the difference between our wheels and I'm not a race car driver, just a gamer. But when I'm coming up to the first chicane at Zolder, I'm worried my rig is gonna fall apart if I mess up and hit the curb. Where I live, a T-GT is only a few hundred dollars less, so the fact that a belt driven wheel misses out as much as your critique leads me to believe, then that's a bummer and I hope it gets sorted quickly.
