Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but you have GOT to watch the video that goes with the song... it's genius. Sort of a take on the horror movie "Carrie". It is very, very well done. It's dark, but also incorporates a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor. You won't be sorry.
Love your videos guys. Tobias has said many times this would be his choice of a song to introduce someone new to the band, this is the song that he is the most proud of. Personally I would choose Ritual but hey, each to their own. Loved this.
That’s one of my favorites I’ve heard for sure! It depends who it is. For my dad, I showed him He Is a few days ago and he loved it. For me, probably Pinnacle to the pit? 😁
loving your reactions. i dig the way both of you break these songs down and explain what is happening to us non musicians. there is a video of James Hetfield playing this guitar riff during one of Metallica's rehearsals. Year Zero, Ritual, Zenith, and He is, are a few more Ghost songs to check out
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! :) That is really cool and tbh, doesn't surprise me too much! It almost sounds like a riff Hetfield might have written and I mean that as a compliment!
You do know they won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance 2016 with Cirice? The word Cirice is old english for Church. About the guitars it's all Tobias. He plays all guitars on the recording of Meliora. On stage he uses three guitarist. (He only sings live).
About the solo. There is no they. It's all Tobias and on this record he also plays it. And the bass. And the keyboard/organ. He writes bits and pieces all the time and then putting different ones together to a song. If something doesn't fit he takes another piece and put the original part in a different song and try it there. Some parts doesn't fit anywhere and are left over for another album. The riff for Watcher in the sky is one example written many years ago, the symphonic intro to Pro Memoria another. On Meliora "Devil Church" and "Cirice" first was one song over 9 minutes long but then he split them into two separate songs. Tobias already has portions of songs ready for album number six because he always thinks five year ahead. Planning the theme, album cover and everything else so when this tour ends late next year he already has everything ready to start working in the studio again.
You just cant get the whole feeling of this song without watching the video....Certain song MUST BE WATCH AS INTENDED and this is one of those songs. Just like Johnny Cash "HURT", sure you hear the words but you cant get the feeling of those words without see Johnny singing it in front of the picture of his dead mother.Or at the end the way he closes the piano signifying he knows this is his last passage and is dying. This is just my opinion but I think Ghost fans would agree.
14:30 Yep an uncle was in town for Iron Maiden asked if I want to come with sure why not? Never really like this kind of rock/metal WOW! What a show live then seeing Eddie. They brought such a cool ambience really made me appreciate the genre
Hey, guys. I Just found out about your channel and I loved your reaction. Here some suggestions : ghost faith, dance macabre, Elizabeth, square hammer, Year zero.
alot of good suggestions from the peeps here, but I ALSO recommend Witch Image, Mary on a Cross, Square Hammer and Dance Macabre (a call back from the last Ghost video - Call me little sunshine
Speaking of learning the guitar riff and Enter Sandman. James Hetfield being a fan of Ghost. Learned and riffed on it during their practice session which was kind of fun to see, ua-cam.com/video/GsXTfdPOL7A/v-deo.html
That's awesome! From what I've heard, Ghost seem like they're masters of creating iconic guitar riffs in a similar way to what put Metallica on top back in the day!
plz check out - elizabeth , hunters moon , ritual , he is , mary on a cross , kiss the go goat , rats , dance macabre ( TOP SONGS ) and plz check out absolution cuz the song and the guitar riff is just next level ( probably their best riff after cirice)
Yeah, I get that but I'm not convinced that is what makes it feel heavy to me. Part of it is the EQ settings on each instrument track and then the overall mastering, but the other part is the tempo/tightness of the layered riffs. Layering guitar tracks with light crunch creates this unique heavy tone, but remains clear in being able to decipher the notes with ease.... if that makes sense!
Funny you should compare the riff to hetfield- somewhere on UA-cam you can find a video of Het himself playing it during what seems to be either a rehearsal or a soundcheck
You talk about the guitar riff making you want to play guitar, well none other than James Hetfield played it during a jamming session. There is a video on YT of it.
This won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2016
I cannot wait for you both to HOPEFULLY dive into more Ghost💕
I like what I’ve heard so far! I can definitely see why they’re as popular as they are. It is well deserved!

@@FlameImperishable I love that track. So much fun to play on bass.

That song has been stuck in my head since I heard it. It's sorcery
Whenever I hear the intro I get goosebumps
Love Your Reaction, I hope they continue doing it with their other songs, I would like to see them react Between Year Zero / Mummy Dust or Rats

Honestly no, I didn’t know! I don’t pay attention to Grammy awards and who won what. 😜
Great reactions guys. Haha yup its "SER-EES"
Thanks! Had a blast listening to this one. Want to learn that guitar riff now!
@Flame Imperishable Its incredible! Would love to see your cover of it in a future video if possible.

Oh cool. Yeah I’m eager to hear another riff that rivals Cirice!
"heavy without over distortion" = Tuning a whole step down to D.
Yeah, I get that but I'm not convinced that is what makes it feel heavy to me. Layering guitar tracks with light crunch creates this unique heavy tone, but remains clear in being able to decipher the notes with ease.... if that makes sense!
Also, just noticed hints of "sad but true" in the main riff
Love your reactions. Go easy on the wine tho lmao

You want to react to Dance Macabre, Square Hammer, Year Zero, He Is, and Kiss the Go-Goat next.
Actually listened to He Is recently! That would be a great one for us to cover!
You should see the video clip of this song
You talk about the guitar riff making you want to play guitar, well none other than James Hetfield played it during a jamming session. There is a video on YT of it.
