My lubbersiana was about the same size as yours when I repotted it this spring. Then I staked it as best I could but soon decided to give it a very big trim. I found that once the stems got really tall, no amount of staking helped and it always looked messy. More importantly, the branched aerial shoots started turning yellow and/or drying out and losing leaves. Some died off altogether. I rooted the aerial shoots in water and then replanted them in with the mother plant. Some of the cuttings suffered leaf curl when planted and never unfurled. Most looked worse before they looked better, however, the majority rooted in the soil and sent off new growth. It is so much happier. Before repotting, it was in lower light. I think that is why it grew so lanky. After repotting, I placed it in an eastern exposure on my patio and the new growth is shorter and lush. Overall, I think the trim was a good decision. Not that you are asking, but if I were you, I would trim up your girl/guy. It's funny, I also vacillate between calling mine he/she! Have a good time in Miami. Sydney Plant Guy will be there too. I wish I could have made the trip, I would love to meet the both of you.
This plant was number one on my wishlist for a few years. Then, I had to retire for medical reasons. So, social security is too small to buy plants anymore. But, I'm blessed to have a fairly nice collection. If you drop a piece on the floor, let me know! Lol
Love your channel. Love all the good information you give. Just a tip from 1 gardener to the other. Work smarter not harder. Put the old pot in the new pot and fill around it then put your plant in
Loved it! I didn’t realize Ctenanthe get so tall and leggy. You did great wrangling it into place. I have one cat that will munch plants in the winter when she can’t get outside to eat grass. Growing some cat grass helps but it’s a pain to try and keep alive long-term.
Big 👍👍 on the repot!! What a difference in the pot size as well. Pot definitely balanced the load of the plant. I don't have a gigantic plant as yours. My tallest pot is 10" so no major repotting headaches here. I do love playing in dirt as i call it. 100% with you on the cats. I talk about Fritz the same way. They're so entertaining SMH.
OMG, the perfect video. I was given a bunch of cuttings of Lubbersiana. I need to educate myself on this cool plant & here you are. Granted, mine are props but I still need to know.
I was anxious for you Drea, that’s a beast,of cause beautiful. I can just imagine your cats wanting to play in the soil or playing with the moving leaves as you’re trying to re-pot it 😅 Well done,it will reward you a million times. Natalie 💚💚🌿🌱✅ Edit: Totally understand about the cats, being a cat lover 😅 I get to understand their personalities,at one stage I had 3 cats, one of them is a ‘grazer’ and if we go away I have that same issue, even though she’s the only one left, she grazies all day,so I stretch her feeds out,but you have 3 and the grazer would definitely go hungry if the sitter doesn’t watch their feed patterns. All the best. 🐈🐈⬛🐈
I bought one of those when I first started this new collection. The leaf tips continually turned brown. I hated it. So, I sat it out in the sun to die. Brown leaf tips are a no go here. Yours is beautiful! I grew a huge avocado tree years ago & repotted it every year. The last repotting it went into a 40 gallon pot. Then it found a home in my mother’s yard.
Good morning 🪴🪴🪴,I see why you left the plant 🪴 so long. Because it’s beautiful. It looks like a beast. But your videos are great. Enjoy Miami and the Aroid plant show. Looking forward to the video ❤. Also love the kitty 🐈⬛ cat 🐈 cats. 🐈
OMG, I see why you would feel and say that it is chaotic. But for me that ain’t nothing but plant love. It is a part of the care. And all else I can say is, can I get some cuttings? ❤ your videos hun. And, stop saying sorry. Everything is a part of life. It’s OK.
You know what’s funny, I use Reptibark for my aroid mix and and soil mixes. It’s the perfect size pine park and it’s so cheap. I find that supplies at calloways isn’t the cheapest. I buy it at Petco, they usually have it on sale online for low price and they price match for you in store if you tell them.
I enjoyed this video so much😍 I just got into houseplants this year. So far I haven’t had any big plants I’ve had to repot yet but I do have this same plant I just repotted in a 8 inch pot not even a month ago and the roots are already growing to the bottom like crazy
I would probably ask a neighbor regarding the cats. My neighbor takes care of my two furrballs when I’m away and he and the cats enjoy this so much!! 😍 they love him and he does his very best with them and gives updates ☺️ I also feed them in separate rooms bc my cat eats like Theo obviously 😂☠️
But heated flowers are so nice. I would say it's definitely worth it if you could make it happen without starving yourself to death, of course. I am so happy with the heated flowers in this house.
I'm not pro-pets eating plants but i will admit that my ctenanthe has some shredded leaves from going in the bird cage. It's considered non-toxic and my bird has been fine. He has sat there and given her bedroom eyes though and whispered to her for hours before shredding her tips though which makes it cute and psycho! The greenhouse i go to has a resident Amazon parrot, he does bite (allegedly) and most of my plants from there have come with shredded leaves. His name is Bingo so i call them Bingo bites. Of course it's the non toxic ones that end up in his reach. So i guess if the cat HAS TO bite a plant it could be worse and he could be going for alocasias or something loaded with calcium oxalate. My cat only goes after non-toxic. She's great at giving my elephant palm a pixi cut at least once a year, and she doesn't use the tiers on her cat stand so those became plant shelves. She leaves everything alone as far as teeth go but she does enjoy putting the tradescantia vine on her head 🤣 it's funny bc like no honey you're a tuxedo cat pink and purple definitely are not camouflage 🤣🤷♀️
I can't leave food out for my cat as well , he eats everything. I solved it by buying an automatic cat feeder and that gives out 4 portions spread over the day. A perfect solution when I go out as well. The reservoir is enough for almost a month but of course I dont leave hime home alone for so long.
I'm cracking up because you're stalling😂. Yes, Doc Block has an enormous property. He was featured on Summer Rayne Episode 302. Looking forward to your experience and knowing how many times your mouth dropped opened.
I was waiting for you to water it and find somewhere to put it. You know, if you cut off the little clusters of leaves on the long stem, trim them and stick the nodey bit in water, they'll grow into more ctenanthes for you to look after. Just what you need. 😅
They don’t always work. Gotta know if your cats too smart for them (as mine is). I got two and my female always first started stealing my males food from the side of the feeder. So I bought protection for the sides (which could’ve been included tbh but whatever). So she basically trained him to put his head under the chip and let her eat his food ☠️
To be honest, I'd probably have given that plant a haircut when it had reached about half the size it is. I do not have the patience, nor the energy to be fiddling with support sticks like that. Congratulations on getting through the other side of this battle!
I have a giant ctenanthe setosa and right now (morning) she's spread out taking up a whole part of the room and she doesn't look very lush bc she's gone all over, including into the bird cage. Tonight she will be compact and lush and standing tall. 😬 I never thought to stake her bc she's SOOOOO animated! I should check her roots and see if she wants a bigger pot but at the same time i don't think o want a pot that i can't move easily. Plus she literally doesn't have a spot bc of her size! She's very much just in the bedroom 🤣 I am only about 20 mins in so far but wondering if these can be root pruned to avoid upsizing the pot? As to the height, i got mine from a greenhouse and the tallest leaves are from the greenhouse, in my care it's low light since it's pretty much homeless and it's still putting out leaves but they're far shorter! Ugh maybe i should stake her so i can put her in a good spot, right now she's wanting like 3 feet of clearance for her sundance on all sides lol

You shouldn’t apologize! Bambi is beautiful and you did an awesome job 🪴👍🏼🌸

You should see if you have a local trade group if you live in a city or suburbs.
😂😂😂
@@marierejoiceinjesus3846In my area, we have plant swaps often.
If you're close to NJ I'll give you some cuttings, I got lots.
@@janekiceniuk1578 That's so kind of you! But, I live in Vermont.
Congrats on the contract and meet up. Very nice!!!
The ending was my favorite part...Scooter is so adorable tfs that clip with us❤😊
I was waiting for somebody to comment on that💚
spoiler alert . Dora i didnt watch the end yet
Love your channel. Love all the good information you give. Just a tip from 1 gardener to the other. Work smarter not harder. Put the old pot in the new pot and fill around it then put your plant in
I have this same plant and it’s done nothing but grow like crazy. It’s constantly pushing out 3-4 leaves a week. It’s one of my favorite🥰
I just bought a 4 inch plant! I can’t believe you were able to do this repot all by yourself. 💪 Yours is gorgeous!❤
Loved it! I didn’t realize Ctenanthe get so tall and leggy. You did great wrangling it into place.

That's an enormous ctenanthe, I am privileged to have that one too but it's so much smaller. You've done an incredible job as it looks so healthy
Thank you!
you and your cats, adorable ❤ by the way, you're my favorite you tuber! you're very likeable
I agree.
Thank you! 😊
...and I was moaning about repotting my huge pachira😅,brave girl, you did a great job, bravo!!!!
Congratulations 👏🎉 on the contract with Palmstreet😊 I hope someone comes through for you and the cats❤
Oh Scooter! So cute😊

Perfect timing! I just bought my first a few days ago and I had no idea they could get this big. I'm stoked for the journey!
Beautiful plant I love it when my plants get huge😊 greetings from my butterfly garden in ft Lauderdale 😊
Gorgeous plant! Have a great time in Florida with all the planty fun!

How was the show? You still in Miami? I wanted to go. I’m just over in Tampa, but my friends had other plans and I didn’t want to go alone 😢

I have been putting off repotting my sensation peace lily. It is going to be a task for sure 😅
I am determined to get mine to look like that!!! I just bought one about 2 weeks ago and she smalll!

Have you tried cat grass for Scooter? I'm thinking about doing the same for my cat. Fun video! Scooter ❤❤❤

It stayed in the same spot in my bedroom (that’s where its always lived) and I was not prepared for how heavy it was after I watered it lol
Drea, have you considered having cat feeders with microchips? Only the cat you whose chip you have coded will access the food
They don’t always work. Gotta know if your cats too smart for them (as mine is). I got two and my female always first started stealing my males food from the side of the feeder. This would be my problem, Theo would bully the other two out of the way and eat their food
😊😊😊❤❤❤

Absolutely can be root pruned but because they’re rhizome based I recommend dividing too
Can we see stromanthe
Is this a damn plant channel or a cat channel
I share aspects of my life while repotting as do most planty UA-camrs
