Amazing!!! I made this exactly like yours. Served on a bed of jasmine rice and broccoli and poured the sauce over it! Everyone at the table wanted more! Delicious 🤤
Since we have no oven, I worked stovetop on low fire. My family loved it so much! This is perfect, perhaps the best teriyaki recipe I've ever tasted. They asked me to make this again and I will definitely do so. Thank you so much 🙏
I'm so excited that I found your channel. I've enjoyed your videos and recipes, and your teaching style is fantastic! Thank you very much and I look forward to trying out more and more of your recipes!!!!
You are without any doubt, my favorite youtube chef. Made this yesterday and this will for sure also be something I make often, just like Tonkatsu. Thank you for making understandable Japanese recipes that are easy to make no matter the country you are in.❤️❤️❤️
Great method! This also solves the problem I have getting the proper internal temperature on the wings before the skin starts to burn. I bet it would work great on a grill, too; not so much fat to drip on the coals.
Thanks Kathy! As long as the grill isn't too hot it should work, but because of the sugar content in the teriyaki sauce you'll need to be careful as it will burn easily.
Sake is added to the sauce for umami and flavor. You can use MSG as a substitute for the umami, but there is no suitable substitute for the flavor. If you're concerned about the alcohol, it burns off when you cook it. You can watch this to learn more about why sake is so important in Japanese food: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
I made this and it was so delicious!! I used a teriaki sauce recipe instead because i have no sake and my mom wouldn't buy it anyway. My family loved it!!!
Yeah. This. From the look of it, minus the sesame.. It is most probably this one. Teriyaki. I have tried the pan-fried method a few times and almost got that taste I was looking for. It was recommended and cooked by the owner at that time. Lots of thanks to you!
Hi Raja, as long as it's not "cooking sake" any drinking sake should work. You can learn more about why sake is used so much in Japanese cooking here ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html but in short, cheaper sake tends to be work better for cooking.
@@NoRecipes Always a pleasure, Sensei! Oh, and I used your choco mochi video as a teaching tool in my Japanese classes yesterday. The kids love you. haha
Hi Lori, yes, but there are a couple things you should be aware of. Most mirin sold outside Japan is not real mirin (it's alcohol mixed with sweeteners and flavoring). If the ingredients include things like corn syrup, sugar, MSG, or salt, you're better off using sake and sugar. If you do happen to have real mirin, you can substitute it in, but it is much sweeter than sake, so you'll want to cut the amount of sugar in the recipe in half.
You're welcome! I'm not sure where you live, but you don't need to use expensive sake. In fact cheaper sake usually works better for cooking because it contains more umami producing amino acids. You can what this video to learn more about this: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
@@latitude1904 Thank you! I'm not sure where you are located, but in the US, Hakutsuru and Sho Chiku Bai are brands that should have relatively inexpensive bottles in the $10-15 range.
Hi McSonovicski, as you pointed out, different ovens operate differently so you may need to make adjustments for your oven. I have a convection oven with the fan at the back of the oven. As long as you keep an eye on them you should be able to see them browning and take them out when they look ready.
Thanks Melanie! Sake is added to the sauce for umami and flavor you can use MSG as a substitute for the umami, but there is no suitable substitute for the flavor. You can watch this to learn more about why sake is so important in Japanese food: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
Hi KP, you can click through on the link in the description for a more detailed recipe. The temperature is shown in the video at 3:29 and the length of time depends on your oven. In mine it takes about 10 minutes.

Hi Mari, that's a tough conundrum. The alcohol in the sake burns off so that shouldn't be a problem, but I guess if you can't buy it you wouldn't be able to use it. I've often wondered why sake companies don't make sake with the alcohol removed for cooking. You should be able to get "cooking sake" without getting carded, but the problem is that it includes a large amount of salt to make it undrinkable. This will also make the dish way too salty.
Hi Mamdoh, you can, but it's not going to taste the same. You can learn more about why sake is added to food in this video: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
I usually have these with beer or sake because they're more an appetizer than a main course. These are pretty well seasoned so if you want to have them as an entree you'll want to pair it with something fairly bland, that's why rice works so well with teriyaki. Otherwise maybe some steamed broccoli or cauliflower ?
@@NoRecipes Tried it today and it was great. Served it with a variation of Cesarsalad without cheese, fish and croutons (Recipe by Sheila Lukins) and chinese pancakes #crossover . But I hope I can find someone to clean up the oven. :)
@@andreaherzog-kienast9343 I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! 😆 yes, any time I roast anything with skin in the oven it makes a mess, but I think these a are a little better than something like duck because they do have a little less fat in the skin.

Can I save the sauce that was boiled by putting it in the fridge and using it for other applications?
Yes absolutely. It will gel in the fridge due to the collagen released by the chicken, but if you warm it up it will melt again.

In the past I threw a paper kitchentowel on top of the fat teriyaki and pull it out right away, it helps remove the fat.
This will work if you have an even layer of fat, but with this it's more like pockets of fat, so you'll end up soaking up sauce with the oil.

Sake is added to add umami to the sauce. You could use water and a little MSG as a substitute for the umami.
