You can find most of the kitchen and camera gear I used to make this video in my Amazon shop. Buying things from my shop (even stuff you search for that’s not listed on the page) doesn't cost you anything extra and it helps to support this channel.

No idea how you don't have more subs...the editing and quality is next level. Great video, def going to try these wings!
Thanks johnyrangr and welcome to the channel! I’m counting on viewers like you to spread the word😉 hope you enjoy these!
This channel is a real gem, don't know why I haven't heard about it earlier..
Thanks Quinn Ann! Welcome to the channel! I've only been posting regularly for about a year and half now, so the channel is still pretty young and anything you can do to spread the word would be greatly appreciated😀
I’ve been trying to find the recipe for these ever since I left Tokyo. Definitely trying this. Thanks!
Hi Rashida, I'm glad I could help! I have a ton of other Japanese favorites on here (and even more on the blog), so I hope you can check them out. 😉
I truly appreciate the clarity of your instructions. It makes them so foolproof! My father is a tebasaki fanatic, so I'd love to make these for him the next time I visit. And I loved your suggestion to substitute fish for a pescatarian-friendly option. Thanks for your cracking recipes, Marc! Have a wonderful week!
Thanks for noticing Kuro Neko! I'm fairly new on YT, but I've been developing recipes for over 13 years, and if there's one thing I've learned is that you can never over explain things😀 I hope your dad enjoys the tebasaki on your next visit!
Just found this video and I love it. Your instructions, your clear speaking and attitude is very reassuring and now I’m going to binge watch your videos lol
Hi Anna, welcome to the channel! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed watching this. I hope you give some of my recipes a try😀

Thanks! I hope your son enjoys it!
These look delicious! Thanks for sharing, particularly all your tips and explanations!
Thanks Kaye! I'm glad to hear the tips are helpful. Have a great week!
I was looking for Japanese soy chicken wings that I had in a Japanese restaurant(Japanese owner) years ago. It looked grilled or barbecued but glazed with soy coloured juice.. This could be poured over sauce. It wasn't much, just glazing over the wings.
I thought it was very much like Chinese soy sauce pan fried wings these days..(which is marinated in soy sauce and crushed/minced garlic and sliced chilly pepper. Then fried in a little oil). But not quite the taste. Thanks for this recipe. Happy to subscribe.
Hi Ashley, welcome to the channel! It could have been a couple of dishes, but this is the most likely culprit. I also have a teriyaki wings recipe that's simmered and glazed. Hope you enjoy these!
Oh God.... looking so freakin delicious!!!!! 🙋🏽♀️ i have Subscribed to your channel. Keep it up!❤️
Thanks, and welcome to the channel! 😀
I was stationed in Yakota and missed the wings place by Fussa. Never knew what it was called until a couple years ago and now I can make these at home! I missed these so much! thank you! 😊

Thanks Mikail!
He's great! i can't believe,as a chef,I haven't seen the giu
Thanks for this! Love you!
You're welcome 😄
hi! i know im a bit late to the party 😅 but i was wondering if i could use ginger powder as a substitute to ginger juice? thank you so much!
Better late than never😉 It won't taste quite the same (kinda like how dried apricots don't taste the same as fresh ones) but it will work.
good lord this sauce is so insanely good - ever since I made these I’ve been using the sauce alone instead of teriyaki sauce in my weekly meal rotation lol 😂 the touch of vinegar really makes it! thinking of adding chilli powder and Sichuan peppercorn powder into it next time to make a mala version
😆Glad to hear you enjoyed it! The sauce is pretty tasty on a variety of things (also great for rice bowls). Love the idea of a mala Tebasaki, I might have to borrow that idea the next time I do this 👍🏽
Awsome video!!!!
Thanks Henny!
Can i use balsmaic vinegar as an altemative to black vinegar?
Yep, that should work!
Hi! I really like to try your recipe. Do you have any suggestion to replace Sake? How about apple juice and lemon juice?
Sake is a tough one to substitute as there aren't really any ingredients with a similar taste. It is mainly added to the sauce for umami. Sake is not acidic so I definitely would't not recommend adding apple juice or lemon juice as they will make your sauce sour. The best substitute will be water. It won't add any benefit to the sauce, but it won't change the balance of tastes either.
@@NoRecipes noted, and thanks for the reply!
Is there a substitute for the black vinegar? I have never seen it in a Western supermarket. Thank you.
Hi Nannerchan, you can use cheap balsamic vinegar (i.e. not the real stuff that costs $100 a bottle). Hope you're having a good Sunday!
Can always try to find on Amazon, that's where I get all of my Asian ingredients.
@@johnyrangr there are many variations of black vinegar on amazon, simply it´s brown rice vinegar. I didn´t know what it is, so I searched on amazon for it :)
Black vinegar can be made from brown rice, but that’s not were it gets its color from. The color is due to Maillard browning which is is a result of fermentation and aging. This is why balsamic vinegar makes a good substitute as it is also aged.
Tebasaki is one of my fav japanese food.
It's one of mine as well!
Tried this recipe and it's so good! Substituted water for mirin since our local hrocery doesn't have mirin :(( still tasted good though!
I'm so glad to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to let me know 😀 Aside from the flavor, mirin adds extra sweetness and umami. Sake with a little extra sugar will provide a similar taste.
Hiii! Is there a substitute for sake? Since I’m a college student and sake is a little over my budget
Hi Ayu, it won't have quite as much umami, but you can substitute water. If you're not opposed to using MSG, you can add a pinch to get some of the umami back. Here's a video that explains why sake is added to Japanese food: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
Hi, I know this a dumb question, but
Is it possible to avoid Sake, and use something else ( like non-alcoholic) for marinating ?
Hi Sabith, not a dumb question at all. Since alcohol has a much lower boiling point than water, the alcohol in the sake (and soy sauce) burns off when you cook the sauce. You can learn more about why sake is added to food here. ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
Japanese Tebisaki chicken 🐔🐔 wings, I like, and Hong Kong Observatory weather forecaster Chong Sze Ning like to eat this too 😹😹😹
Please teach some more japanese dish for non japanese people.
Hi Sonali, food is a universal language, so I don't really think of it as food for Japanese people vs food for non Japanese people.
I love chicken wings i want to try this recipe but so hard to find sake in my country
Hi Furu ki, unfortunately there aren't any great substitutes for sake, but you could substitute it with water. It wan't have quite the depth of taste as when made with sake, but it will still be tasty!
@@NoRecipes i'm sorry marc is this sake for drink or cooking sake? If cooking sake i think japanesse store in my city have this one
@@furuki60 Hi Furu ki, "cooking sake" is usually very low quality alcohol that they add flavorings and salt to. The salt is there to make it undrinkable but this causes problems in recipes because they end up being too salty. You would be better off using water.
@@NoRecipes thank you marc
Can I substitute ANISADO WINE for Sake?
-Love from Philippines.
You could, but it's not a very good substitute for sake. Sake doesn't taste like anise, and the reason for adding sake is for the amino acids it contains (which gives the taste of umami). Anisado is distilled so it won't contain any amino acids. Watch this video for more info on why sake is used in food: ua-cam.com/video/C2p6MN4EVeA/v-deo.html
@@NoRecipes I guess I'll just have to buy Sake for all your recipes that has sake in it. Thank you for your prompt response. Really appreciate it!
@@themaskedvloggerph8257 You're welcome! Sake is used in a lot of Japanese dishes, and it can also be used add umami to non-Japanese dishes.
I'm here again! :) Do you usually use dark or light soy sauce for japanese recipes like this?
You will want to use Japanese soy sauce such as from Kikkoman. The flavor is milder and more delicate than other types of Asian soy sauce.
@@NoRecipes Yes. I was wondering if I should use Higashimaru Shoyu (dark) or the light one?
@@themaskedvloggerph8257 Ahh gotcha, use the dark one. Unless I specifically call for Usukuchi Soy Sauce, "soy sauce" in my recipes refers to dark Japanese soy sauce.
@@NoRecipes thank you so much! 😍
@@themaskedvloggerph8257 You're welcome 😄
Is there anything i can replace the sake with?
Hi ElIjah, the sake is in the sauce to add umami, and by boiling it you're burning off all of the alcohol if that is your concern. To reproduce the umami imparted by the sake, you could just add a bit of MSG instead, but it's not going to be as subtle.
Can you use mirin in place of sake?
Hi JayArEmDee, I wouldn't recommend it. Mirin is much sweeter than sake, so it will make the sauce too thick. I generally don't recommend cooking with mirin and calibrated this recipe to work with just sake because most of the stuff out there is fake (i.e. alcohol with sugar and flavorings).
OMG I ❤ fried chicken!!!
Me too, I think three of my favorite foods in the world are variations of fried chicken 😂
You should change your channel name i thought there will be not given recipe...i wouldn't watch but by mistake i tap on it i was surprised..i will try the chicken
You can read more about the name on my site, but it's not about not providing recipes (that would be kinda pointless). It's about me teaching you techniques so that you can eventually improvise your own dishes at some point. I know some people don't get it, which is why I've thought about changing the name, but the website's been around for over 13 years and all the experts I've consulted have told me it would not be worth changing given the hit in traffic I would take for changing the domain name.
Hope you enjoy the Tebasaki!
i like the way cook
Thanks!

4 servings??? Whoa lol
It depends on how you're serving them and how much the people eat, but this allows for about 200 grams (half a pound) of wings per person. 100 grams of meat (1/4 pound) of meat is a typical serving portion of meat, so keeping in mind that about half of the weight of wings is in the bones, this makes about 4 portions.
You grin too much! Good cooking but stop grinning so much
Hi Jean, maybe you don't know what it's like to actually enjoy your job, but I left a desk job to show people how to cook for a living, and it's the best decision I've ever made 😁
