    To answer your "why expediting" question, I retired with the plan to go over the road with a class A. I love the open road. But I found out that I really don't want to drive the big rigs. So I chose expediting. I bought a promaster and got my authority (still waiting). And yes, I'm one of those who have no clue what to do next. That's why I watched your dispatch video. Lots to learn.

    So....what does one do in that 30-90 days while waiting for your authority to "age" a little.
    I'm currently doing my research. Right now I work for a transport company, driving cars across Texas (single cars). Was trying to find ways to make more money w/out a CDL. This popped up. However, I like to try and run mostly Intrastate, for the most part. Anyhow. (Just answering your question). I haven't purchased a Van yet. Hoping to gain more Intel first, want to be sure I don't purchase a Van....then try to figure everything out. Gonna go check out your load board video next. 👍 I don't see the link you were mentioning.

      If you get to the point of having your authority you'll need to have a van or truck because to have active authority you'll need insurance on your unit. The 1st 30 - 90 days you'll find a few brokers that will work with you. The best thing in my opinion if you're on load boards is to bid loads or reach out to brokers and get the carrier packs to be set up with them and gives you experience.

    Mine was very simple. I got my van & OA first. I knew what my end goal was. Deal directly with local customers for steady work. I knew that I had to learn from scratch regarding getting loads through load boards & brokers. I never intended to expedite across the country or build a fleet. It has taken me 2 years to build a local customer base. I rarely seek loads through load boards or brokers. I have made relationships with several brokers who I can reach out to if I need to. Hope I explained it well. Safe Travels!

    Question: why do brokers or dispatchers allow low bidding loads? Or how do brokers or dispatchers benefit from low bidders on loads? Am I off track with this question?

    • @EverythingApax
      @EverythingApax  2 роки тому

      Not off track. The broker does it because every penny they keep is more profit to the brokerage. Also, many of these brokers are fighting for the load with other brokers. Dispatchers many times especially when low rates have drivers willing to do it so they don't care. In summary not enough pride by the people in the industry. If you do have pride it's possible you won't survive unless they can figure out how to fit things together to suit their needs.

    I called DAT they told me I needed authority and the Mc number plus commercial insurance in order to get loads off their board. I work for a medical equipment company. We have various freelance cargo van and box truck drivers. An example a load of icu beds from Portland to Seattle 8000 dollars is what the company pays for the freight. Even icu mattresses that are very light and fit into transit cargo vans. They get paid the same. I want to get in to this I’m looking to buy a van yet I can lease them. Yet I really wanted to just get linked up with someone so I could do weekend hauls. I was a nationwide LTL operator for 5 years. I changed my class to C. I don’t want all the regulations. Honestly I can make more in a cargovan than I can driving a semi for a company. Thank you for your videos and I put. I have not bought the DAT package yet.
    Best Regards,

On the flip side I have a Close friend that is helping me with a respectful carrier. No I have no idea if I will be successful or not but I will die trying. I must say yourself and a few others have inspired me to pursue this goal . I currently drive DC Metro area in a commercial service vehicle and I hate DC but I Love to drive . I was a diesel mechanic for almost 12 years and I got into this by asking drivers how was this industry through the years and decided to go through the expediting route because I know the costs of maintenance on the big trucks, road services will eat your profits in a couple of hours and I know because I did them and I was the one charging for them. Now on these smaller trucks/vans the maintenance is just like in cars and for that reason is less headaches and less regulations that you have to worry about.

    These are real facts. I've said it before. I drove CDL, of various types, before I got into expediting. I struggled with the idea with signing on to a carrier first. But I'm glad I did. I also researched, listened to Alan and Tim, the Crafties and numerous others. U also had the pleasure of meeting Alan at the Flying J in New Haven Indiana a few years ago when I had my van signed in with Panther. Didn't take a lot of his time. Just

      The key for van freight is we have to stay under 10k gvwr to keep from scaling or logs. So no it doesn't help when staying under 10k. It could be beneficial over 10k if done correctly.

    What I don't get is why multicarrier people get to a certain area....and they are lets say leased to 4 carriers at once...and they are the only physical van in that area...so, a customer sees 4 vans in that area, ( the 1 guy leased onto 4 carriers at once)....so, he goes shopping trying to get the lowest rate, right?? So the multicarrier is getting 4 load offers from each of his 4 carriers for the same load, right? I can bet that Mr. Customer is going to settle for the cheapest rate..( this happens frequently to a multicarrier friend of mine) So what just happened here? The multicarrier driver, o/o, just pimped himself out for the cheapest rate.. while paying more for expensive primary insurance...
    So, where is the advantage to that? ..None, IMO.

    • @EverythingApax
      @EverythingApax  2 роки тому

      I agree. If it actually worked as it is supposed to the driver is to inform the other 3 carriers that he is under a bid by the one which would prevent this. But of course it doesn't go as it should because the driver believes that having 4 carriers bid at once increases the odds of getting a load. Smh
